My HP laptop, on which I depend utterly, every day, for my firm*, suddenly developed all kinds of failure modes (first it would drop the WiFi; then it couldn't find the connections that were there; then it wouldn't boot at all) -- but they were intermittent (the very toughest to trace and fix). Grant, the genius-in-residence at this Harvard Square shop, had me fully operational, with a new WiFi board, and doubled the memory I used to have (now a full terabyte, yay), but w/ my old drive contents cloned (so the replacement would be seamless), all in less than 48 hours, and for less than $300 (before tax). I cannot understand critical reviews. He has always been friendly, incredibly responsive (same day--"bring it in"), and efficient. He is also mindful of costs/time and does not do work that is not necessary. For example, when my computer did not turn on, I called Grant and he told me about a 30 second fix that worked without my having to bring the laptop in. It is a great source of comfort to know that Grant is available to deal with the inevitable laptop problems in a manner that is friendly, timely and cost-effective. I recommend him enthusiastically.

Got it back and they had installed a 'cleaning' program on it without asking or telling me. I had to ask THREE TIMES (in the course of my several calls and visits while my computer was being worked on) if they would install a new hard drive and system on the machine, and how much that would be, thinking I'd just archive this drive, and Sam just kept saying, "You don't really need it." Umm - I'll be the judge of that. YOU just tell me if you want my business. Maybe it's because I'm a gray-haired old lady and I don't deserve the respect and professionalism of a straight-forward answer (or any honest communication about my computer), but is that any better? I brought my laptop in because it would no longer boot up correctly after running Norton Utilities and the automatic repair tools wouldn't work. I was told that the prognosis was pretty grimm and we could recover the data, but would have to restore the OS an reinstall all of the software, etc. They were very friendly and just trying to be honest, which I appreciate. They said they would try a few things, but weren't optimistic. Well, I'm glad I didn't listen. I did a 5 minute search on Google that led to an article that took me through (step-by-step) fixing the problem in 3 minutes. My computer was immediately back to being FULLY functional with no loss of data or programs. I guess this would be a 5 start review had someone said: those are hard errors to fix, but we can look online and research to see if there are fixes out there for this type of problem. I would have left them my computer. But would they have searched or just come to the conclusion that a wipe of the computer was the only fix? Note: I consider myself to be very computer literate and only went looking for "expert" help when I couldn't figure out a resolution. In hindsight, I now realize i could have done a google search earlier and saved myself a trip.

I definitely should have came here first! Jeff looked at my laptop right away while I was sitting there. They tried to find the root of the issue and I was able to sit there and watch what was going on. He also was talking me through what he was doing and why he was doing it, which really put my nervous mind at ease. Their prices were very reasonable (although it sucks to pay $200 for a new laptop screen) and they called me when my laptop was going to take longer than originally expected to fix. They even stayed later than their office hours so that I could pick up my laptop after work. To be long winded: my 1.5 year old gateway laptop decided it did not want to turn on, - after calling many repair shops I discovered many places do not even work with laptop hardware issues- iTech did! so Plus 1 for them. I took my computer here and Rich diagnosed it with a faulty motherboard. If you chose to get the work done with them, the diagnostic fee is waived which is good, and the labor/parts were fairly priced. Rich was good at staying on top of communicating with me about where my laptop stood on the repair, unfortunately I kept being told it would be done friday... then on friday... o no, maybe Monday. Then once the motherboard was fixed, it turned out the touch pad had also somehow went- In the end it took 2 months to fix! And was a lot more money than the initial estimate. To be fair- that was not their fault, there were unforeseen problems that kept delaying things, and most of the hold up was waiting on parts. Rich did discount some labor in lieu of making me wait so long. and now here I am typing on my once-again-wonderfully functioning laptop! and restored some needed data for school before the fix for free. Just a warning if you go: the Office is in a house. Its a white house, on a random side street with a red door, you have to go to the side door and press the doorbell labeled "B", which I didn't figure out until I got there.

System lock is usual issue but you know in my case it is very different issue and they are the perfect guys who resolved without data loss, which specifically I requested them to take care of my data.... Yes even in price offering they are very cheap comparing to others... You won't believe in the same blog I posted my issue for that many quoted till $250. Here they charged only $35 from my end which is around 70% less comparing to others and at the same time work is so genuine to satisfy common expectation.. Nice guys who are plenty smart, but they do not have an adequate repair bench for complex computer…read moreproblems, and they don't do a great job of listening to customers. Additionally, they are not diligent enough in diagnosis. The result in my case was that I paid them $50 diagnostic fee without actually receiving a diagnostic and with them asking me to buy RAM so they could test out my computer with new RAM (because they didn't have sufficient parts on hand). I would go to this shop to buy a PC or for basic support. I would not go to this shop for support on truly complex PC problems. I brought in a home-built PC with stability issues. I didn't have the time or interchangable parts to diagnose the PC myself, but needed it diagnosed and fixed as I used it for statistical analysis work. I ran the guy who checked me in through the steps I had taken (chkdisk and related), but he did not take adequate notes at check in. As a result, they held on to my computer for two weeks running the same checks. As I found this out, I informed the other guy who ran diagnosis on the computer I had completed all these checks. At this point, he insisted I needed to buy RAM so the computer shop could evaluate the issue with new RAM. This is a very strange request. Any shop worth it's own salt should have the interchangable parts and testing bench necessary to diagnose things without requiring the customer buy parts for the shop to do so. As he had been telling me inaccuracies about my hardware such as (1) MB can't handle the RAM I have in it because it is wrong speed (MB can handle it, it just has to be set to OC in bios) and (2) that my RAM was only 16 gb (wrong, it is clearly 4 sticks of 8 gb per stick), I decided to take the computer to a big box tech store nearby (who also failed to diagnose correctly). Upon pickup, the guys at the shop told me they believed I had a failed graphics card and RAM issue. I ended up doing the diagnosis myself a month later when my time freed up and figured out that I had (1) a corrupt windows install, and (2) a corrupted bios that was causing very strange MB behavior. I replaced no parts, just did a clean bios flash and a clean install of Windows. I am writing this review on the exact same PC, same parts, completely stable. However, I am sore that I paid $50 bucks and lost my home desktop for several weeks for nothing, and that I then solved the issue in about 2 days of my own work.
