I did NOT have this place service my laptop, but I did bring in my computer for help. I'm giving them only 3 stars because their advice wasn't correct -- at least in my opinion. I brought my laptop in because it would no longer boot up correctly after running Norton Utilities and the automatic repair tools wouldn't work. I was told that the prognosis was pretty grimm and we could recover the data, but would have to restore the OS an reinstall all of the software, etc. They were very friendly and just trying to be honest, which I appreciate. They said they would try a few things, but weren't optimistic. Well, I'm glad I didn't listen. I did a 5 minute search on Google that led to an article that took me through (step-by-step) fixing the problem in 3 minutes. My computer was immediately back to being FULLY functional with no loss of data or programs. I guess this would be a 5 start review had someone said: those are hard errors to fix, but we can look online and research to see if there are fixes out there for this type of problem. I would have left them my computer. But would they have searched or just come to the conclusion that a wipe of the computer was the only fix? Note: I consider myself to be very computer literate and only went looking for "expert" help when I couldn't figure out a resolution. In hindsight, I now realize i could have done a google search earlier and saved myself a trip. read more

i have used Compiter Domain for at least 8 years. Kostas and Matt have helped me with back-ups, wireless networking issues in an old brick house, and security issues through at least 5 different laptops and desktop computers. They are always readily available and knowledgeable. Furhermore, they don't oversell or over promise. I brought my laptop in here after it had been freezing up on me and causing general aggravation. After a look at the computer and asking a few questions, the gentleman told me that it needed a tune up and that would run about $180 but might not actually end up fixing my issue. Then he told me that he didnt think it was worth it given the age of the machine and would recommend that I put the $180 towards a new laptop. This guy gets 4 stars for honesty. I am pretty sure that the major chain I bought it from would have tried to fix it even if they couldn't and I would have walked away with less money in my pocket and still having to get a new computer. read more

UPDATE TO MY REVIEW BELOW: I feel the need to respond to the owners comment to my review because his comments are not accurate. He was not there when I brought my computer in that day to be diagnosed. I was never told about a $100 diagnosis fee. I WAS in fact told I needed a whole new computer & that it was not worth fixing. I suspected from the beginning it was just a problem with my wireless adapter stick & sure enough it WAS a $30 fix (I needed new stick, not a new computer). I was shown the "custom built" expensive computers in the shop that I had no interest in buying at the time. And like I said I put this off for two months because I thought I needed a new computer and I intended on buying one from this shop but it turned out my friend came over and fixed the so-called problem. End of story! It's hard to hear bad reviews of a business as an owner I'm sure, but this is my story and I'm sticking to it! This is my original review below: I have used this business in the past without a problem. Most recently they have lost my business and trust because I brought in my computer which is three years old and I was pretty sure my wireless adapter stick was broken but I wanted them to make sure. They hooked it up to make a diagnosis and the gentleman told me I needed a whole new computer and it was not worth fixing. I put it on the back burner for a couple months because it's a major purchase and I have been using my iPad until a friend came over with a brand-new adapter stick and I put it in my computer and sure enough my computer IS working, it was just a faulty wireless adapter stick. This makes me wonder if my two other computers I have purchased from this business in the past was even necessary. They are very good with the computer lingo talk and can easily make the person without much computer knowledge believe that they need unnecessary fixtures or even a whole new computer. They have lost my business and it's really sad because I live in Dedham right around the corner. When I called the owner to explain he was apologetic but also brushed it off as if they tell people these things so they won't put money into things not worth fixing but in my opinion it WAS worth fixing since it was only $30 for a new stick read more

Recently my external hard drive developed issues and I was no longer able to access the files. I brought it to a computer company in my area and was told that because it was a solid state drive that it would be impossible to recover the files. Not wanting to abandon my files, I looked online and found Mass Data Recovery and am so glad that I did. The owner Kostas and his team were very professional and knowledgeable. Kostas explained the recovery process, the different levels of recovery and all the costs up front. I appreciate that he followed up (by phone and email) when he said he would, and he ensured a quick turn around time (just a few days). The files were recovered in their entirety, and when I picked up the drive his team member showed me what was recovered and gave some good advice regarding what to look for in an external drive. I was referred to Computer Domain by a friend. I contacted them in early January to fix some wireless network issues, clean up my desktops, and reconfigure my printers. After visting their website and seeing that they advertised for Mac work I asked if they could help set up an icloud account. I was assured they could. For each of my inquiries, Kostas indicated "no problem, we can definately take care of that for you." After a month of emails and phone calls (and 1 one hour visit to my house), where I was told that they were programing my new wireless access points at their facility to save me money, I got an email that said: "Due to unexpected circumstances, I need to cancel our appointment for Monday as well as cancel the order for the WAPs because I do not know when I will be able to reschedule (it may very well be months). I do apologize for any inconvenience....." I was given no explaination as to why they were suddenly unable to do the job they had been promising me for months and claimed that they had already started. read more

My external drive was working very slowly while I was using it on an older Windows computer that was working fine. I ran a Disk Cleanup and Defrag and the drives operation seemed to get worse. Then I noticed that thousands of photographs and music files were gone! I brought it to the Geek Squad (GS) at Best Buy in Dedham. I had asked them to recover thousands of photographs and music files. GS transferred what they could from my affected external 1 TB drive onto another external drive that I supplied. They did not recover any files that I was not able to access. I told them that and they said it would require a data recovery process where they would send it to a distant location and that would cost at least $900. The gentleman I spoke with suggested that even though GS does data recovery, I should take it to any 3rd party recovery company! Mass. Data Recovery was the first place to come to mind. I went there and met with Kostas and he explained the many aspects of the recovery process. It was clear to me that he was a professional and had done this type of work for many years. He was quite conversational about the work that they do. I am sure that with his great reputation, he gets a lot of work that keeps him and his staff busy. Yet, he took time to talk about the valuable do's and don'ts about computer maintenance. He did a quick evaluation and felt he could probably recover all of the missing files. He sent me an email the next day. He was able to recover everything! He and his staff are very professional and trustworthy. I will definitely return to the Mass. Not only was my problem solved, and at half the quote of another shop, but additional software was loaded - free of charge- and I never asked for it. I've had a few good experiences here -- when my old laptop was dying, brought in and they said I was better off replacing, and helped me ID a few good options based on my needs and budget (they don't sell computers and didn't send me to a particular store -- just made recommendations based on their expertise, which I appreciated.) Then, they did a free diagnosis when my new laptop had an issue and were correct that there was a hard drive problem. When I got it back from the manufacturer, they set everything up and put all of my data back where it should be (I had online backup), reinstalled programs, etc. so it works like new. I'm not terribly tech savvy and have found them easy to work with, fast, and seemingly fair-priced (I haven't done much shopping around because I like and trust them.) read more

Let me start off by saying that I never take the time to write reviews for companies. The people at Compter Domain impressed me enough to drive me to write this one. I have just started my own company and am trying to keep my costs down. I bought a used desktop to try to save some money (this was probably my first mistake). It wasnt running properly so I brought it to the Computer Domain. They were able to upload the appropriate drives and software to make it work properly for a small cost when compared to other big box stores like Best Buy. It worked great until it got a virus just last week. I thought all was lost. I had spent months putting files/picture/spread sheets all associated with my business on that computer. I was sick over the thought of doing it all again and losing what I had. Once again The Computer Domain was able to come to the rescue. They were able to back up all my data, all of it, and put it on an external hard drive so I never had the problem again. The computer was toast. I guess that is what you get for buying an old used computer. What impressed me the most was that they didnt push the sale of the computers that they offer there. I told them I was interested in a Mac. They were able to give great advice and guidance on what to buy and where to get it. I really appreciate the help they provide.
