Coffee spilled directly on a MacBook Pro. I thought it was lost. Kurt and his people recovered ALL of the data including images , email , bookmarks ( I had things in iCloud but not everything) and put it back on a rehabbed exact copy of my old PowerBook. Like it never happened , honestly. And the price was more than fair and saved buying a replacement ( with no data, apps... ). I couldn't believe it. After getting lost trying to have Microsoft solve my hardware problem with my new surface laptop and after calling bunch of places without being able to talk to them, I finally got to talk to a person as TechRescue and he suggested I bring in my Surface laptop. Using their special tools, they were able to solve my problem in 10 minutes. The best part came when I asked about the charge. It went like this: Me: "How much should I pay?", Him: "How much you feel like paying ?", Me: "maybe $100 ?", Him: "no, that is way to much, how about $20?", Me: "OK, we will settle on $40". Was told by "Ubreak I fix" and Apple that husbands iPhones motherboard was damaged. We had no iCloud so unable to retrieve any data or photos of From phone. Apple gave us a company called Data Savers . We called was told it would be at least $700.00 to start and could cost anywhere of up to 2k depending on amount of work removing data , etc. We have sat with the phone for months now deciding whether to spend the ridiculous amount to retrieve the data. Tech Rescue is one of those things that makes living in an expensive, sometimes tough city like Boston better. For the last 15 years, I have taken an assortment of Apple gadgets (iPhones, iPads, laptops) to them for routine battery replacements as well as slightly more exotic repairs (for example, changing out the charging socket on an iPad that my kid had worried to death through obsessive charging). The founder, Curt, still is present at the front desk and sets the tone for the entire thing. The quality of their work has been impeccable, while the cost of the service is roughly half of what Apple charges. In addition, they get it done in a timely way with appropriate humor about human foibles. Curt and his team do amazing work. I have used them 3 times now this year. 1) when my son passed passed, they worked with me to figure out his Apple ID which allowed them to then restore his iphone and his macbook so I have all of the data. which then allowed me to gain access to his gmail account. 2) My mom's all in one was messed up. They removed all malware and did some simple HW upgrades. 3) When my step brother passed this week, the got his android phone unlocked which then allowed me to gin access to his gmail. Bottom line up front: I can't recommend Techrescue enough, will use them again, and refer my friends to them. I've used them twice now: (1) to replace case damage to a 10-year old laptop (dropped it) -- which required finding parts and some ad hoc repairs. (2) to replace the battery in a "thin and light" ASUS Zenbook. I've been around computing for 40 years, have built my own systems, etc. Except for getting the parts, I might have been able to do the repair (but been there, done that, and didn't want to do that again). The Zenbook was an entirely different story! I have no clue how they even got the case open (thermal separation long the edge like certain fruit-named mobile phones?). When I walked in, staff were working with =microscopes= on printed circuit boards -- props to them. Again, great people and great resource. read more

I came in with my microsoft surface laptop that had water damage. They were able to respond to me quickly after dropping off but they don't have enough experience with my computer or enough parts to fix it. So, unfortunately they could do nothing for me. read more

I have been going to TechRescue since iPhone Curt was still upstairs in an office the size of a closet so I am a little ashamed I haven't written this review earlier, but better late than never. Curt has always been awesome with us. He has fixed more iPhone screens, iPad screens, saved files, etc... all at less than half the price of Apple. The crew there has told me when not to waste my money, and upgrade; they have gotten me old phones on the cheap; and at least 4-5 times I have gone in for what thought might be a big repair or dead phone, and they have fixed the issue no charge. They upgraded my 10 year old desktop after Apple said it could only be recycled and it's faster than my new laptop. These guys are awesome. Enough said. read more

This guy gets a lot of good reviews for his services but when I went in there because the hard drive in my laptop was broken, he was unbelievably insulting and crass. Initially, I spoke with My regular tech guy (a friend who has been building computers and networks for over 20 years) but he was very busy so I decided to give TechRescue a shot. I conveyed to TechRescue what my expert had told me and what I wanted to happen. First, he insulted my friend saying he didn't know what he was talking about. Then he made fun of me for spelling out my name and email address. I always spell out my name because everyone gets it wrong the first time. This iPhone Curt guy is a major a-hole. This store provides exceptional and friendly service. Curt and crew have helped me with phone and laptop issues on many occasions and they never disappoint. During my last visit I asked that they troubleshoot a laptop problem. I left my laptop with them for several hours while they ran tests-- I trust them completely. They could not replicate the problem and asked me to return when i experience it again, which i will do. There was no charge for the troubleshooting. Pros: -Friendly and knowledgable staff at the front desk. -Connected me to their wifi on my tablet so I could find the correct bus route back home. Cons: -Entered in my email wrong the first time, which was the only way I could be contacted while they were working on my phone. -After updating email to correct address, I never received any email updates as to how my phone was doing, good or bad. -Said because the phone was completely broken they would try to extract data and let me know how it went; NEVER let me know how that turned out. Would not recommend this place if you can't give them another phone number to reach you at, who knows if they would anyway. But I'm sure laptop service is fine. read more

Curt runs a very reputable business on the corner of Washington and Parsons Streets. He repaired my iPad screen (note to self: iPads do not like to meet stone as the relationship shatters them) and backs his work with a lifetime warranty. He called when it was ready and was willing to work with me to make the pickup as easy as possible. I have no reservations about going back for other repairs, although I hope I won't need his services again. These guys are awesome! I'll never go anywhere else when I have computer trouble. I had liquid spill damage that was fixed by a different company. After I got my computer back the track pad was acting really weird and needed to be replaced. The other company told me that it would be ~4 days to fix the problem. Being a graduate student, thats a long time without my computer. I went into tech rescue and they were able to diagnose the problem while I waited and had a new parted ordered quickly. When I took my computer back to be repaired, they had everything fixed within 2 hours! They charged me a fair price and every employee I interacted with was awesome. Great technicians, and very accommodating. My iPhone needed a new charging port, and I got there later than intended because of bad traffic. They did the repair even though it was close to closing time, and stayed late to finish the job even after running into complications. I've lived in the Boston area my whole life. I work in Production, and I am also usually rushing around and carefree about my phone. Usually, I crack my screen during the worse possible time. TechRescue is by far the best, most honest, and quick service. I once went to Staples for a screen and had such a terrible experience waiting, only to be given someone that was clearly not trained properly to fix anything. TechRescue will fix your screen (and within reason, anything else), and then tell you what else is going on with your phone without charging you before they speak with you. I have gone there 5+ times in the last 3 years. Its always quick (usually 30-60mins). Always professional. And always on time. And even when they aren't on time, they let you know.
