Wish I had never taken the phone to the Genius bar... iPhone 13 mini had a dead battery issue which Apple said they couldn't diagnose to confirm without enough power to run their test. It was just stuck in a boot loop and Apple was saying they'd have to restore it to factory settings. Brought it here instead, he ran a test that quickly and clearly showed the battery was dead. The battery got replaced on the spot for $89 (much better than the potential $300~ quote the Apple store was giving since they "couldn't verify" if there were other issues). DO NOT get your iPhone screen replaced here!!! I cracked my screen a couple of months ago and decided to bring my phone here instead of bringing it to Apple, since the service here was cheaper. The screen stopped working correctly almost immediately: half my screen would freeze sometimes, but now today, my phone is completely inoperable. I'm taking it to Apple to see if they can replace this screen for a genuine one and fix the issue. I can't entirely fault this shop: Apple very effectively incentivizes using their own products and specifically says on their website that you shouldn't use non-Apple parts. I didn't listen, and I regret it. I don't know if my issue is due to shotty worksmanship or with an incompatibility with iPhones. Either way, do yourself a favor and take your Apple products to Apple stores. read more

Off the bat let's start with the good, this team is family run and operated and are incredibly responsive. I messaged Ned through yelp on a Saturday, was quoted and came in on a Monday and had repairs to my back glass and outer facing iPhone XR camera within an hour. I've never had third party iPhone repair done and as far as getting that issue solved they did absolutely that. But here's the downside, I came in with a working Face ID and left with a non-working Face ID. I was also informed that you can't just replace Face ID on an iPhone since it's linked to each phone for security and thrift purposes (which makes a lot of sense, and to also add, they are incredibly knowledgeable about the ins and outs of iPhone inner workings). I made it approximately three steps out of the door before a notification that my Face ID was disabled due to a problem. It's just a real bummer that I now have a brand new problem that was not present mere minutes before I walked into the shop. When I brought this up the older gentleman quickly dissembled the front screen again and couldn't find any problems (normally Face ID issues stem from water damage or massive front screen facing issues which I didn't have). He said to come see them again once I got back from a trip I was about to go on and they would take a look at it but still, such a shame it wasn't a perfect visit and now I have a new problem they may or may not be able to fix that might cost me having to get a brand new phone because of it. They've offered to make it right and I hope they do, because as of now I'd be weary of recommending them outright due to having new problems. I'd love to be able to recommend them for cosmetic fixes at the very least but after my experience I wouldn't feel comfortable. read more

Very happy with my battery replacement at Boston iPhone Repair. I've had my phone for 2 months now and everything is still working beautifully. Small location tucked away upstairs in a building on Mass Ave right by Harvard Square. My trusty iPhone 5S was approaching old age, and my battery had already reached 1000+ charge cycles (they are designed to last 800), so it seemed high time for a bit of a refresh. Interior is nice and clean but no frills and very cozy - the guys work right in front of you behind the counter with lights tools and will probably multitask while you're telling them what's wrong with your phone. The guys here can be a little gruff. I came in and asked for a battery replacement and before I knew it, my phone was plucked out of my hands and I was told to sit down on the leather chairs for fifteen minutes. There are two leather chairs by a window, with a coffee table covered in magazines for when you invariably fight off existential crisis realizing you have no idea what to do with yourself without your trusty iPhone in hand. They seem to also offer some degree of Apple tech support as well - while I was waiting, a guy came asking for help transferring pictures from a hard drive to his mac, and they were able to do it for him. They also sell a few Apple accessories. The entire job only took ~15 minutes and cost $50, which was exactly the price they quoted me when I requested a quote via Yelp. I checked my battery tracking app on my iPhone to confirm that the battery they installed was in fact new - it definitely was! It's been two months and everything is still working great. read more

He mentioned there was a previously-developed old hole that was leaking electrolyte fluid from the battery. Maybe it would have damaged the screen regardless. He put some tape over the hole to try to fix it for the time being. Apple wanted $549 to repair the back glass on my iPhone XS, and here it was $99. Granted, you give up full official refurbishing that would likely ensure your iPhone remains water resistant... but for a trade-in, hand-me-down, or just fixing the state of your own dumb, stupidly-heavy and fragile my-god-Tim-Apple-gluing-the-components-to-the-back-glass-is-a-total-scam-I-know-you-did-this-on-purpose steel & glass phone -- they can't be beat. Took around 4 hours or so, but I can't recommend them enough and now it is looking brand new. Other places have asked at least double for some time now. My 2013 MacBook Pro was having issues with overheating that had been a problem for years, and the battery which had been slowly getting worse finally got to the point where I could barely use the laptop unplugged.
