I've come to expect a certain mediocrity from these strip mall Chinese places, but this place is different, and the authenticity, quality of the food and warmth of the owner, Meili Wu, have earned Oriental Kitchen a lot of respect among the foodies of Pflugerville. One of the dishes that always gets rave reviews is the green beans. I have seen photos of Meili and employees picking the fresh beans by hand at a booth, so you know they are using fresh ingredients. These are pan-fried and seasoned. Some of the most savory green beans I've had. My family also likes the Special Pan Fried Noodles, which comes with beef. Even my picky kids like this dish. I really want to like this place because the food is delicious and the staff is friendly. I have three experiences with only one being good. Due to the styrofoam containers they use, both my delivery and pick up orders resulted in spilt sauces. This place is confusing. So are the stellar reviews. Maybe it deserves 5 stars if you're drunk! The hot and sour soup was weirdly dark colored, almost black and very salty. The egg rolls are commercially made and flash fried. The beef fried rice was bland and actually lacked salt. I don't think you should need to salt Chinese food unless you're eating literally just white rice. Prices are cheap, maybe people equate cheap with good? You failed me Yelp. Food Review: First time for My husband and I to come here. We heard amazing reviews from others and said let's try it. I thought I'd right a review for those who would want to try some delicious Chinese food. Facility: spacious, clean, good location (easy in and out). Service slowed down a lot once our food was served. Waitress very apologetic upon her return on "neglecting" us. She is super friendly, won't hurt us in not coming again. Food: they provided free fried wonton chips with sweet and sour, more available if you ask. We started with fried dumplings: we had 8 and they were the best, including the sauce(different but good) from any Chinese place in Pflugerville. We both ordered wonton soup: big bowl opposed to a small cup, traditional but yummy! We both had egg rolls: I normally don't eat them because I'm not a fan but I ate the whole one here. I had sesame chicken with steamed white rice: this is usually my go to meal at any Chinese food place. The chicken was delicious, nice crisp to them, sauce is thick which I like, great flavor. The rice was rice hahaha. DJ had orange beef with steamed brown rice: the beef had a nice crisp to it and the sauce was thick and very delicious. The rice was rice hahaha. The portions were huge so we are both going home with leftovers!!! Recommendation: we ordered everything at once. Because we ordered at once everything came super fast. I knew front the storefront that this wasn't going to be quality food, but was okay with the idea of some cheap Chinese. We ordered Kung Pao Tofu and Mongolian Beef. We waited about ten minutes. Totally reasonable. But the guy who came out with our food did not speak English so I couldn't really check our order. Sadly, we ended up with two dishes we didn't order...and nothing we did. General Tso's Chicken is so good (and a HUGE portion, HUGE), BEST crab rangoons I've had (and those are my FAV and I'm picky about them), the BBQ Fried Rice is really good, my son loved the combination lo mein and chicken egg rolls. How have I lived in this area for 5 years and never tried this place until tonight! The Kung Pao chicken and Sesame Chicken was some of the best I've had in all of Austin area. I'm very picky about my Kung Pao and they hit every taste bud. They delivered faster than they said too. The driver was nice and so were the people over the phone. Hot and sour soup is amazing. Fried rice is solid. Was quite disappointed with the Basil Shrimp. See photos. They were 80% breading and didn't look anything like the other two photos, which is what I based my choice on. I'll def get the soup and fried rice again. I really wanted to visit this restaurant after I saw it already had good reviews and was finally able to come by. The food was absolutely incredible. I had the Singapore rice noodles with pork and shrimp and it was delicious. My dad was with me and he got the Triple Crown from the specialties menu and that was also really good. The egg rolls were delicious as well. Highly recommend visiting this restaurant and I can say with certainty that I will be returning soon. I was assume due to low staffing abilities they are serving in the dining room in to-go containers, but I honestly like this a lot.
