Another decent dimsum place that isn't far from us. Service can be slow sometimes due to the fact that there aren't that many servers, but it's also not a big place either. I've been here on weekdays and on weekends. As per usual, weekends are busier, but the wait for a table isn't too long. It's located in a strip mall so lots of parking available. If you're craving dimsum and don't want to trek to Flushing in traffic, this is a good place to satisfy your cravings. read more

If you were a regular at the Orient in Bethpage, then you would most probably know Tommy Tan. Tommy always would greet his regulars and provide them with latest creative specials from the kitchen. Well he is now greeting customers at his new restaurant since 2015 located in the Birchwood Plaza Shopping Center in Jericho. As we walked into the restaurant, there was Tommy Tan standing tall with a big smile recognizing us and immediately seated us at a large round table. As he is done in the past, we spoke about nothings for a bit, and we requested that he come up with creative shrimp dish, pork dish, and whatever else he thought we would enjoy. The restaurant dining room is fairly roomy with red cloth tables in a comfortable seating arrangement. The bar area was set aside along the wall. Since we did not order anything but Tea to drink, I am not certain if they have a full bar. Tommy Tan first came out with Wonton Soup and the Lettuce Wraps stuffed with Chicken which were both wonderful. Then followed by a creative fried shrimp dish, barbecue pork in a brown sauce, fried rice and crunchy Chinese greens. The service, the food, and the Tommy Tan's company was wonderful. From the time I have been dine at the Bethpage location, I have never ordered from the menu when Tommy Tan is present. He has always provided creative dishes that we have never have been disappointed with and always enjoyed having a few laughs with Tommy. I would suggest that if you are dining for the first time in this restaurant, ask for Tommy Tan to provide you a food experience that you will never forget. read more

This is my favorite place for my mom and I to go for lunch! I almost always come here for lunch and I never am disappointed. The place is clean and quiet, and the service is very quick! They also don't rush you when you are taking your time there despite the fact that your food comes out very quickly! You are seated and brought over hot tea and the most amazing crispy noodles I have ever had ! Prices are really great and affordable, a lunch special comes with soup, egg roll or soda. It also come with your entree choice and a side of white or your choice of fried rice. I have tried so many items on the menu and have been very satisfied with everything I have ordered from here. My family has been going to this dimsum place for 10+ years but unfortunately we will not be coming back after the terrible service that my dad received. He went to Orient Odyssey to order (because he wasn't sure about the specific names of dishes) but one of the ladies behind the desk was rude and belittling. At first he ordered with a lady running the register (who was very helpful and nice) when a rude lady (also behind the counter) interrupted their conversation by saying "he didn't know what he was even ordering" and other condescending comments such as "你这个都不知道？" (you don't even know this?). This continued and he raised his voice out of frustration and they started to yell at each other. Then, he asked for the owner or manager and she claimed to be the owner then she threatened to call the police. Lastly, when waiting for his order he asked to sit at one of the MANY empty tables while he waited for his order but was rudely refused because "桌子是给客人" (the tables are for guests). Is he not a guest who paid for his order? We will not be coming back because of the rude and unacceptable service and also because the lady told us to never come back. Later, we found out she was not the owner (since the owner is a man). Besides this horrible interaction the food is tasty and very good, every other employee interaction has been kind and perfect. We went at a quiet time when there were few diners so service was attentive and friendly. Our food came very quickly. We ordered steamed pork dumplings and the waiter repeated the order back. But vegetable dumplings were what was on the receipt and that's what we got. As vegetable dumplings, they were really good but they were pretty awful for pork dumplings! We ordered shrimp and ginger plus chicken and Chinese broccoli. Both dishes were very tasty but there was a big pool of oil in the chicken dish and not much less oil in the shrimp. Then add in the little flying bugs, one of which took a nosedive into my plate (luckily not in my food) and that was it for me. This is my second time here but I heard they have new owners. We started with the wontons in spicy sauce. It doesn't look very pretty but it was delicious! We also ordered string beans with minced pork, pork Lo mein and Salt & Pepper Fried Pork Chops. The string beans were tasty. I've had better but these had nice flavor. The lo mein was also fine. I've had better and I've certainly had a lot worse. The fried pork chops were disappointing to me but my husband loved them. Here's why I was disappointed. They didn't taste salty or peppery. Instead, they tasted sweet to me, almost like a donut. I went to a place in Queens and had the same experience. So maybe this is the way it's supposed to be prepared. I've had them at Fortune Wheel and they were not sweet. With that said, the meat was cooked well and the chops were not dry. And my husband liked them a lot. Next time I would order something different. The service was good and the ambience is nice. All is all, a very good experience. It wasn't a five star rating and it wasn't a three star rating. So four is appropriate not JUST a four. If you're looking for good Chinese food, I think you'll be happy with Orient Odyssey. read more

Doesn't look like much from the ambiance inside but don't let that fool you. The food here is absolutely amazing and very well priced. The egg rolls are delicious as is the orange beef, garlic chicken and lo-mien. They also have big round tables with a lazy Susan that works well for large parties. I am updating this review for now because the owner reached out to me and he was very upset about our dissatisfaction with the recent orders we took out. I am not a person to write deliberately negative reviews but the last order broke the camels back after several consistently poor takeout orders. We took out from here all during covid and we were no longer happy with the food. Horrible! Just Horrible. They have changed the layout since the older days and seem to have upgraded the furniture. However, they eliminated pushing the dim sum carts around (which was part of the experience) and now you just order off the menu. We walked in right when it opened and they guy was still mopping and sweeping the mess under each table from the previous night. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 4.5 STARS On 9/07/16, exactly one year after my first visit to Orient Odyssey, I returned and hosted a dinner for 10 members of my dining group.This restaurant does not get proper love and respect here but Newsday has (justifiably) named it one of the Ten Best Chinese Restaurants on Long Island in in 2016. The restaurant seated us at a round table which, though large, did not accommodate our group's dishes comfortably.I will ask for a larger table next time. However, the quality of the food more than made up for this minor glitch. The restaurant has recently added several Szechuan/Northern Chinese dishes to its menu. I asked for my favorite, Pork Belly(Bacon) with Chili Leeks. The waiter acted clueless and stated that the kitchen did not have the dish. My dining companion, Dick G., interceded and called over the owner, Tommy. The dish miraculously returned to existence and I ordered it. It was outstanding, the equal to what I've had at Chef Wang, Beijing House and La Vie En Szechuan. Since I was inclined to pig out and have enough for tomorrow's dinner, I ordered a second entree, Mixed Seafood Chow Fun, which was also excellent. I reserve special praise for the kitchen since our group has been victimized by a couple of very slow kitchens in September. Dishes came out extremely quickly and piping hot. Tommy's peeps demonstrated conclusively that they are adept at serving large groups so, if you are planning a large function, you should consider this restaurant. Our members thoroughly enjoyed their dishes so I will single out some. I tasted Dick's Fish in Red Hot Chili Oil. It was delicious.Fish with Asparagus, Tofu with Eggplant and String Beans, Mixed Seafood with Crispy Noodles, Tangerine Chicken and Chicken with Bok Choy were the other noteworthy dishes our group enjoyed. I'm bumping Orient Odyssey up a half star because it demonstrated that it can offer the same excellent food and service to a large group that I had previously experienced when dining with another. We went to this restaraunt with 7 people, and ordered 7 dishes. 6 dishes came very quickly, but the 7th dish never came. We asked the waitress many times about the last dish, because my son (minor autistic) insisted to have his bean curd fish dish. At the near the end, the waitress came to tell us that the last dish they don't have the fish. My son was so upset, and he left the table. we have to order another dish with different fish to take out with us for him. They charged us extra rice bowl becasue we ordered 7 dishes (only 6 came). I gave them 15% tip, because I was upset. The waitress came out and asked why we gave her so little tip. What a shame! This restaurant believes it is an America standard to serve with 20% tip when their servies suck. In America, the tip is called "gratitute", and you have to earn this money. I should gave her nothing with this obvious mistake, because I asked many times about the last dish. she insisted nothing is wrong until the last minute. Not sure why this restaurant only has a three star average rating on Yelp. In my humble opinion, Orient Odyssey is the best authentic Chinese food in the Jericho area! My favorite appetizer is easily the eggplant stuffed with shrimp. These come our really hot (so be careful!) but taste amazing. The lettuce wraps with minced chicken and peanut sauce are also a phenomenal choice for an appetizer. For the main course, my go to menu items are the fish with black bean sauce and the basil chicken. I strongly recommend requesting the chef/wait staff to add lotus roots to your basil chicken dish - the lotus roots go really well with the sauce as well as the other vegetables! The fish with black bean sauce is so good that my friends and family members who generally don't even like fish will more than happily eat this dish at Orient Odyssey! read more

DO NOT COME HERE if you plan to have a nice dim sum time!! My friends told me about that before but I didn't listen and the experience was THE WORST!! I didn't think I would get CURSED OUT from the waitress there!! 1) The servers rushed us throughout our time there. Every 10-15 mins, they would look to see if there's food on the table. Once we have only like little food left on the table, they would come and ask "Do you want the check?" Not all tables are filled in the restaurant, so why are we getting rushed? 2) We waited 20 mins for the noodles. And while we were still waiting for our noodles, they RUSHED US AGAIN for getting the check. 3) Due to the dissatisfaction of the experience and service, we gave less tips as usual. And the waitress literally chased us out of the door asking how come we gave such little tips and said "DONT COME TO EAT AGAIN, F**K YOU"!! These are the literal words. My favorite place to go for Saturday lunch. I live in Suffolk and this is the closest place for good quality dim sum! I used to go to the Orient in Bethpage, and as it is owned by the same person almost everything is consistent (same menu/prices). I would say the decor is a bit more modern and more open, and they give jasmine tea yum! The first page in their small laminate menu has the dim sum plates (small/medium/large) with my favorites being the pan fried leek dumpling, pork shumai and baked pork bun which is only available on Saturdays. The carts were fast to come and the service was great. One thing I love is that I am horrible at using chopsticks but never feel judged when I struggle hah. Even if my boyfriend and I stuff our faces, our bill is usually $25! Definitely recommend this place for a cheap yummy meal! read more

Servers are very quick and never mess up an order. Food is always fresh and comes within minutes of placing your order. large portions.

If you long for the days where you actually sat down in a big family style Chinese restaurant, this place is for you. Bonus: it's not the 70's decor you find at some of the older places still around. The great thing here is the service with a smile and the large portions. Sure, the language barrier is still there, but the servers are still patient and friendly. The portions are probably double of what you would get from a take-out joint and the prices are quite reasonable. Sadly though, I don't find the food as good as the location in Bethpage. That being said, it's still a mile better and with half of the grease of your local spot. I usually stick with the basics, a noodle dish and a chicken dish, and it's enough for three (hangry) people. We have tried Vegetable Lo Mein, General Tso's Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, Pork Fried Rice and the Vegetable Fried Rice. It's not a bad restaurant to sit and eat in, but let's be honest. Eating out of takeout containers with chopsticks on your couch in sweats is just so much more fun! Right? The food is honestly good. They don't tend to over use sesame oil or soy sauce in there dishes, which is what you get in other places. 3 stars because IMHO its alright. Not something I go to normally. Personally, I think this restaurant is a beefed up Chinese take out place. Instead of being a hole in the wall, it's a sit down restaurant. The staff is trying their best, and the food is just too average for my tastes. I will say that I think this place is better than the average Chinese take out restaurant you see in every other strip mall, but, overall, I feel that it's just OK; nothing special.
