Like most, I have a high level of anxiety when it comes to anything done in the world of dentistry. During a root canal, a tooth fracture was found and therefore could not be completed, which meant: tooth extraction, to be done by an oral surgeon. It is recommended not to wait to long to have the extraction done, as after an "incomplete" root canal, & there is much sensitivity to that tooth. I was able to get into Dr. Koos office for a consultation sooner than for whom I'd had a referral. His calm, thorough manner of explaining procedures & options put me at ease, as did learning I was a candidate for general / twilight, anesthetic. I had the surgery yesterday & experienced ZERO pain throughout. It doesn't get better than that. Procedure done in about 45 mins. The discomfort with healing process, is well managed with meds. I received a much appreciated follow up phone from Dr. Koos that night to see how I was doing. Likewise, his entire staff, EACH person I've encountered by phone or in person couldn't be more professional, kind and caring. It's a well honed office in every regard. So today I went in for a much-dreaded tooth extraction (to prepare for an implant). I had an abscess and needed a bone graft - the triple header! I am pretty much a huge wimp when it comes to dental repair, and was absolutely DREADING this process. Suffice to say, my worrying was for nothing. Dr. Koos has an extremely natural bedside manner, and for what it's worth, just oozes confidence and ability. 2 things that made me feel MUCH better about having to do all this work. Anyhow, I can reiterate what I read others say here (and honestly didn't fully believe), but I literally did not feel A THING. The anesthesiologist (I believe it was Julie) asked me to pick some music which I did, and we chatted for a bit as I asked her a bunch of questions about the process which she gladly answered. After about 1 minute of laughing gas and an injection (I didn't even feel the needle go in) I was off to a place I can't describe, somewhere between sleeping, dreaming, and relaxing. I asked a question about one of the songs and mentioned that I hoped everything would go smoothly, and Dr. Koos replied "we are all done". AWESOME! Anyhow, I still have several other steps to go in this process, but first impressions are - NO NEED to be afraid of having oral surgery, especially with these guys. Worth every penny. read more

My daughter had to have a button inserted for orthodontics purposes and I am so glad that we were referred to Dr. Koos. Not only was his staff very pleasant, but I think that he is so awesome as a person and Doctor. He answered all of my questions very thoroughly and he made sure that our experience was outstanding. This morning I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed. I never had any type of surgery done before so I was very nervous. The first time I met Dr. Koos he was very informative and detailed about the extraction process during the consultation. I loved how quick the x ray process was and that it was in 3D. Tia was very helpful with the financing process and I had no problem with scheduling my appointment for my surgery. This morning came and they took me promptly at 8am. When I got in the room I was extremely nervous but the lady with the pretty hair and nice teeth(don't know her name) was so friendly and gave me laughing gas. All I remember next was Dr. Koos walking into the room asked 2 questions and checked for the vein in my arm. They then woke me up saying the procedure was over. One of his assistants walked me out and gave me a care packet and I though that was very nice. Later this evening, Dr.Koos called to check on me and asked that I save his number for any questions I may have, which was very thoughtful and caring of him. As I write this review, I'm experiencing no pain and all I took was an ibuprofen 5 hrs ago. My experience was awesome!!!!!!! I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Rooms are clean, staff is professional and the waiting room is really nice with drinks available. Btw the entire process probably took between 40-45 mins. 5 stars! read more

Over the last few years, the customer service at ORA dental studio has definitely DECLINED. They are always changing staff, hard to get a routine cleaning and the receptionist Trisha can be very rude. Make sure you check your invoice as this place has been known to make numerous errors and overcharging. read more

First of all, I must STRESS that the clinical staff at Ora are the best! Dr.Kralj, Dr.Koos, Dana, and my hygienist, Ashley have all been great! The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because of some of my dealings with the office staff. I have been going to Ora Studios in the South loop now for at least 3 years. I have had a tooth removed, an implant and many cleanings. My problem with the office comes whenever I have to reschedule an appointment. Some of the office staff really seem to have a problem with that. This last time, I called Friday to try to reschedule a 6 month cleaning that was scheduled 6 months ago. The cleaning is not until October, so I thought I was giving a pretty good amount of notice that I had to reschedule it. When I called, the receptionist I spoke with (GOD,,,I got so mad, I forgot her name), informed me that cleaning appointments are made 6 months in advance and because I request my days off of work that makes it near impossible for anything soon. I probably could have dealt with the fact that these appointments do require planning, but it was the attitude that bothered me! She came up with an appointment in January 2013! During our conversation, she kept making comments about how far in advance these appointments need to be scheduled, etc,etc. I DON'T NEED TO HEAR THAT OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!There was no mention of maybe they could get me in before the end of the year with another hygienist. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I felt that the receptionist made me feel like I was committing a crime by trying to reschedule an appointment. This encounter, I did snap though, and told her that they really need to be more considerate .. and that s*** happens and appointments have to be changed, especially ones made so far in advanced. Needless, to say, I got very upset with my encounter, again, and if not for the excellent care from the clinical staff, I would probably consider going somewhere else for my dental care. read more

I had been putting off my wisdom tooth removal for like 5 years at least because I was so nervous for my very first medical procedure ever(the worst thing I've ever had was a cavity). But I'm glad I waited to come to dr koos because I could not imagine a better experience. I got a good feeling right from the consultation and scheduled my surgery date immediately. For surgery I had the nicest nurse and she really calmed my nerves. They let me listen to whatever I wanted while in the surgery room and I picked Dashboard Confessional and that really helped me with how nervous I was too. Dr Koos even recognized the band, which not everyone does, but they are my favorite. I got laughing gas, then and IV put in, and then the next thing I remember was waking up. So crazy! I had the most pain about 2-3 hours after surgery and after that the pain subsided and ever since I have only been sore but nothing to complain about. Dr Koos is probably my favorite doctor ever and I've recommended him to so many people in my life already. So far my husband and has made a consultation and a few friends have said they would be calling soon. I would 100% recommend him to you too! :) read more

This review is primarily based on my issues with the front desk/administrative staff. I had a crown placed almost 1.5 years ago. Due to miscommunication regarding insurance's payment for my procedure, I was going to be responsible for the full amount - over $800! I didn't find that out until 4 months after, though. I originally paid about $300, as that was the amount initially communicated to me regarding my responsibility. However, after discussion with Amy (the office manager), she agreed that we could split the difference on the remaining portion. ORA would write off half, and I would pay half. Sounds fair. That agreement was made in Summer 2015, but it was pending an appeal to my insurance company. Ultimately, the company decided not to pay. In February 2016, when I had to have the crown replaced again (it was causing persistent issues), ORA replaced it for free - but not before I paid my half of the bill from the previous year. I paid, and expected everything to be resolved. Nope! Today I received a bill for the remaining portion that they agreed to write-off. I love the dentists and dental hygienists in this office. However, I've had nothing but issues with the front desk staff (see my original review about payment). I'm highly frustrated and just might have to take my services elsewhere! read more

So here is my experience with ORA dental, but first some background information. About 3 years ago I had 1 wisdom tooth removed that became abscessed from a surgeon who left me petrified of the dentist. The experience was horrific and I was in the worst pain of my life. So I opted to keep the other 3 in for years. Until they started really hurting again, so I started searching for surgeons. I visited about 3 and did not feel comfortable at all with any of them. So I reviewed yelp and found Dr. Koos had over 100 reviews and they seemed very good. I decided to give him a visit. From the start I knew I was in good hands Dr. Koos explained the exact procedure to me, what he was going to do, how long it would take, and also the recovery time. The day of I showed up and his staff immediately made me feel comfortable. I laid back got some laughing gas and the next thing I know I wake up and it's time to go home. A couple hours later the numbness went away and I felt fine. I even attended my mother in laws 60th bday party that same day I felt so good. This was night and day compared to the other wack job I went to for my first tooth (what a mistake). Dr koos even called me from his personal cell phone to check on me to make sure I was okay and how I was feeling. If you're afraid of having this procedure, don't be your in remarkable care with this Dr. My only problem is that they are so far away from me, I traveled from Aurora about 40 min away. First I have to start off by saying that DR. JASON SCHROTENBOER is hands down the best in his practice!!! I had been putting off getting my wisdom teeth pulled out for abt a year cuz I was terrified abt the entire procedure & the fact that I had to get 2 taken out scared me even more but it was time to get them out so I scheduled an appt. w/Dr. Schrotenboer, best decision ever. In my consultation he made me feel very comfortable and explained everything to me and how he would go abt the entire procedure. I told him I get very nervous & was terrified because of all the horror stories & since I opted for G.A,as he recommended would be a better choice for me, I was super nervous just thinking abt the fact that I would be put to sleep but once again he re assured me that I will be just fine. I left the office feeling confident that I wanted this procedure done with Dr. Schrotenboer. Surgery day came & it was a piece of cake, I felt that I just blinked & everything was over . Amazing facility, Amazing Staff and Dr. Koos is amazing too!!! I took my ten year old here to get her Adult tooth extracted that didn't come in correctly. Before taking her there I took her to a dentist in Orland Park, who was a complete tool and didn't even talk to my daughter although she was the actual patient who would be having the surgery. Dr. Koos, on the other hand, spoke to my daughter more than me. He explained the procedures to her and treated her so well (the way a Dr. should treat their patient regardless of the child's age). He made her feel so comfortable that she did not have hardly any anxiety when we were coming back for the surgery. Remarkably she was in and out of there in under 30 minutes and actually awake from the "twilight" and surgery in like 15 to 20 minutes. It was so simple and fast. The staff was amazing and very professional but personable, too. It was such a pleasure to do business with this company that I recommend them to everyone!! I found Dr. Koos by his SUPERIOR reviews on the internet and he and his staff did not disappoint!! Thank you Dr. Koos and staff at Ora. Ora is super! The dentist did my 2 fillings in 30 min flat. Very efficient and very little pain involved. Well my face was pretty numb for the next 5 hours but that's to be expected. The fillings felt a bit rough to the tongue for a few days, but a week later feels just like normal. Highly recommended. Who knew a visit to the dentist could be so pleasant!? read more

I had all four wisdom teeth removed in August. I sought the opinion of of a different surgeon first, whom I didn't trust. A friend recommended Ora to me. As soon as I interacted with Dr. Koos and his staff, I knew I would choose them. For the consultation visit, his staff was friendly and made appointment booking easy. They clearly communicated all of the billing procedures and answered every question I had. To top it off, the out-of-pocket expense they quoted me was $450 less than the first surgeon I saw. They were very flexible in helping me schedule a surgery and extremely responsive to all of my questions in the days before the surgery. On the morning of the surgery I was beyond anxious but his staff was calm, efficient, and warm. They took me back promptly at the scheduled time and immediately began to administer laughing gas. They continually explained everything they were doing, which really helped me remain calm. Dr. Koos then entered the room and began to administer the anesthesia. Again, he calmly explained how the IV would work. When he realized I was still feeling anxious and upset, he quickly began asking me about the person waiting for me in the waiting room, which was the perfect way to distract me before I was completely out. When I woke up, his team gently guided me to a room to give my husband and I instructions and materials for oral care. That evening, Dr. Koos called me to see how I was doing and answered any questions or concerns that I had. I was extremely grateful for that. The entire process was significantly more smooth than I anticipated thanks to Dr. Koos and his team. In the weeks following surgery, his team patiently and clearly answered all of my post-surgical questions and helped me make a post-op visit when I requested one. Dr. Koos has an incredible ability to be calming and caring. It is clear that he and his team excel at what they do. I highly recommend them for any oral surgery needs. read more

My wife had the best experience at ORA. From the front desk to Dr. Koos the whole team made her feel relaxed and cared for. She is not, repeat Not a fan of going to the dentist, which is why she was in the situation she created. She had all her remaining top teeth removed (12 I believe). The surgery from start to finish was about 45 minutes total. She felt no discomfort afterward and had no need for the pain medication that was prescribed. Dr. Koos even called her in the evening to make sure she was ok. What a wonderful man. My wife and I would recommend everyone that needed oral surgery to ORA and Dr. Koos. Incredible experience! My daughter had her four wisdom teeth removed last week and everything was taken care of so well--from initial consultation to the actual surgery. I have had a really busy couple years and had not been to the dentist in 2 years.... definitely scared to go after that long but what a great experience. All Dental offices out there need to take a note, THIS is how you do it! All the latest technology... lasers to spot even beginning cavities, digital x-rays (much less radiation). I am hard to please but they really treat you well-explaining every little thing, easy free parking, very welcoming and thorough, massage chairs, TV to watch while you are getting worked on. I am always complaining that customer service is dead- well it's alive and well here! My only complaint was that on the day I called to make the appointment no one answered and I just had to keep calling, businesses should have a message that says so when the office is not open and should also put it on their website. I get teeny windows of the day when I can make calls with out my little ones bugging me or being so loud I cant talk so I need to use that time efficiently. But the prices are reasonable and everything else was awesome! I compared 3 dentists for how much they charged for zoom whitening and this was the best price. Nicely done Ora! First, I will start off saying this was my best dental experience I ever had in my life. The atmosphere of the ORA dentist office, has a calm soothing vibe, beautiful neutral colors, and the nice contemporary design it's very clean and bright. The ladies in the front office are very nice, beautiful, professional and classy. Dr. Koos is very knowledgeable , professional, funny sense of humor and he truly cares about his patients. I came to get 2 of my wisdom teeth extracted and initially I was nervous until I sat down in the surgical room and looked up at the beautiful calm nature painting on the ceiling and the calm soothing music they played in the background. As soon as I received the anesthesia and nitrous oxide, I was out, I didn't feel any pain. I opened my eyes and it was over very quickly, lol! The discharge instructions were very easy to follow & Dr. Koos and his hygienist explained everything perfectly. Then they made sure I got home safe, Dr. Koos followed up with me once I got home. This care was top notch, they went above & beyond, and I haven't been in pain or discomfort at all. I've recommended Dr. Koos to all my nursing buddies. He's awesome! read more

I came here a few weeks ago for a consultation because I needed my wisdom teeth pulled. The ambiance is lovely. I met w/Steven Koos. He explained my options also advised for me to be sedated. I personally did not think I needed to be sedated. Now if they were impacted MAYBE I'd think about it but I knew they were not and I also get sick w/anesthisia so I told him I did not want it. He did try to push it but I insisted on NO. I understand as a dentist, a good one, they want to make it as comfortable as possible for their patients. And for some- being sedated or under twighlight make work but for me it doesn't. Outside of that he was very nice and freindly- no complaints. . I then went up to the front and they sat me in a room to to go over payment and options. I have VERY GOOD insurance so when they came at me w/almost $400 to be in twilight or $200 and something to get put to sleep cause my insurance does not cover that part I was woowed but again I didn't want to get this done, I wanted local and I explained that to the girl who was explaining my options. She said they normally don't do local for wisdom teeth but she'll ask the Dr. I told her to do so cause this is just a consult and I can go else where to get a consult. She then came back and said Dr said local is fine and my cost would just be my $50 deductable if I haven't met it yet. UMMMMM....YAAAA....Big price change. I went back today to get my wisdom teeth pulled and again the attention and attitude of all staff was great. From the front desk to the dental assistant to the dentist. I was so scared and nervous but they made me feel at ease and comfortable. The procedure was super fast I didn't expect it to go so quick. So glad I didn't get put to sleep. It happened so fast. After procedure they put you in a recovery area. They then came in and gave me the procedure on what to do after you leave their office. They even gave me Ibuprophen right there for free which is good cause I didn't need to go to pharmacy and pay extra. The also gave me a Rx for vicatin just in case. I also like the fact that their is parking in at their location and when you leave there you do not have to walk out through the front, they walk you out through the back which leads you right to the parking lot. I think that is a GREAT idea because it's alittle embaressing after coming out of a procedure like that to have to walk through the front and have other patients who are waiting in the waiting area look at you. It's hard for me to give ANYONE 5 stars. Only negative thing I will say is I felt I was being pushed to pay out of pocket to be sedated after I told them no. When I say no it means no. But besides that I probably would of gave them a 5 star. I definitly recommend this place. I will be back w/my son because he to needs to see an oral surgeon. read more

I recently found myself in Dr. Koos' chair having 4 of my wisdom teeth removed..what i thought was going to be a traumatizing experience turned out to be not so bad, actually it turned out to be pretty good. I called ORA Studio on a Saturday and they were able to squeeze me in because I had a toothache and a tooth infection. Becky and Mili,the receptionists, were very understanding and helpful as well as the rest of the staff. Dr.Goran Kralj was also very patient,very pleasant, and understanding and I will definitely going to go back to ORA in the future.The studio is large,beautiful,serene,and it does not resemble any other dental studios I have gone to. They accept over 20 different health insurances and are willing to help you providing info about the cost.They are wonderful and I would recommend them at any time. read more

I used to dread the inevitable visit to the dentist. The scary equipment and clinical feel of the dental office was always cold and impersonal to me. However, Ora has changed all of that for me. Their office is very modern, inviting and relaxing. I know a lot of the new dental practices now have very modern looking offices as well, so Ora is not all that special, but what sets them apart is their service. The doctors are great with a good sense of humor. They explain everything to you without pressure, and present options with recommendations. I have been treated by Dr. Kralj, Dr. Broomhead (hold it in), and Dr. Koos. They are all very professional, and they really try to make you feel comfortable. Dr. Koos did an awesome job on removing my last wisdom tooth. There was very little bleeding, and I was able to eat solids within 2 hours. I didn't even have to take any of the painkillers he gave me just in case. To me, he's like the David Cooperfield of oral surgeons. Dana, the dental hygienist is super friendly too. She actually remembers what I told her during my last visit while I had to jog my memory just to recall her name. She seriously has a great memory, so don't spill all your beans. All the staff in the front are very nice too. I've never had anyone give me an attitude or anything like that. They always apologize when the wait gets a little long, but that doesn't happen very often. Overall, I'm a happy camper here. read more

Wow. The technology used is high-tech and amazing. A laptop is given to you for filling out medical history instead of the paper forms, massaging examination chairs, your personal direct tv and remote while your getting your teeth cleaned, sliding canopy doors. Dr. Goran gives you options and discusses a treatment plan with you. Afterwards, you're brought to a room where the treatments plans, cost, insurance coverage and out of pocket expense is all broken down you for. This is treatment for cavities only! I have been to Ora surgery twice- first to get a tooth extracted, and following to get a screw put in for an implant. I can't say enough positive things about this place! The receptionists are all very friendly and informative. The decor, and ambiance of this place feels like a spa. Dr. Jason has done both procedures for me, and I wouldn't go to anyone else in the future. He is extremely professional, kind, makes sure his patients get all their questions answered and that they feel comfortable with the procedure. I have even referred him to my parents and both my mom and dad see him now. Nancy, the woman who took me back during my past surgery and got me all set up is a true gem! She made me feel so comfortable (especially considering how crazy anxious I get during any procedure)! If you aren't crazy about getting an oral procedure done I would request to have her get you all set up before Dr. Jason comes in- she definitely made my time in the chair before undergoing anesthesia very pleasant! read more

I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out almost two weeks ago and I am about 95% healed at this point. The office is extremely relaxing and the staff is super helpful. It almost feels like a spa/salon experience to be honest with you! I had a couple of impacted teeth and one tooth that was extremely close to my sinus. Saying that I was nervous might be a complete understatement but now looking back on it I know I was in the best hands. The assistant (forgot his name) took back back to the surgical room and sat me down. There was some Shakira music playing relatively loud on their speakers which actually helped me calm down and relax a bit more. The assistant put the nitrous oxide mask on me and I actually felt quite normal and not silly at all...or so I thought. Dr. Koos then walked in and in order to calm my nerves I kept asking him questions about his recent vacation with his family and other random questions and before I even noticed, I had fallen asleep and was later woken by the assistant again. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep before that same Shakira song was over and woke up feeling like a million bucks. I was then helped over to the recovery room to meet my boyfriend who had come with me to my appointment and all of the memories of my silly questions and conversations with Dr. Koos and his assistant started to come back to me. So much for thinking I felt normal with the nitrous. I am pretty sure that I started flirting and/or proposing marriage to Dr. Koos (Doc - if you're reading this, I apologize if I did!). Also, I may or may not have imagined a second assistant in the room - Trisha. Was she there? Who knows! Long story short, the entire procedure quick and painless and absolutely nothing to worry about. You will be in/out in no time at all and are in the best hands in Chicago! The aftermath for me was a bit tougher though because I started running a small fever the 2 nights following the surgery. I called up the dental office and they called in a new antibiotic prescription for me within 10 minutes. I spoke with a receptionist who kept on going back and forth with me and Dr. Koos which was a bit annoying - I wish she had just patched me through to him directly. I didn't really get much of an explanation of why I had a fever but once the meds were changed out all went back to normal. If I have a complaint at all it would be that the post-op reading material (what to do, not do, how to clean the area, how long it will take for the holes to close up, etc...) was too short. I typically have a lot of questions which I resorted to Google for but would have preferred to have more detail in my post-op "goodie bag" by the doctor instead. read more

First I want to say I am terrified of dentists based on my past horrible experiences. I let this situation go on too long. I had a dental emergency over the July 4th weekend. My dentist, Priya Setty opened her office to see what she could do to assist me. Unfortunately or FORTUNATELY she referred me to Dr. Steven Koos. I called his office on Monday morning shortly after 8 AM. I spoke to Tia, who was able to schedule an appointment for 10 AM. I did not have time to complete my paperwork before I was called in for my exray. Dr.Koos was great as was all of the staff that assisted me. The office and the procedure was very relaxing. Dr. Koos took the time to listen to what I was experiencing. He listened to my issues with dentists. He went over the procedure in detail and stated he would be able to proceed as I had not had anything to eat or drink. He answered my questions. I think the cost was reasonable. I would highly recommend Dr. Koos and Ora surgery. Dr. Koos called later in the evening to follow up with me and to go over any questions I had, go over my follow up care and to let me know if I have issues I was not to hesitate to call. read more

I must tell you all out there a story about my fear. The last 20 years, for some reason I have been so afraid to go to the dentist that I neglected my teeth. I had beautiful straight white teeth at one time. Only went when it was an emergency. Then while suffering for 5 months with a neurology problem, I had to have a tooth pulled. I was lost on where to go and where to feel safe. I was told Dr. Steven Koos was a wondering, caring oral surgeon. I read his reviews and they were all great! Although I was still scared, I needed fast care. I called Friday August 26th, 2016 and was taken the very next day. First the office, the waiting area and the staff put me on an instant safe feeling. When Dr. Steven Koos walked in the room that I was assigned to, shook my hand and my husbands hand, introducing himself. He genuinely listened to all my concerns and cares with calm and great concern. Scheduled me for surgery the next week- My husband and I walked out of there in total disbelief that any doctor could care and put so much time that Dr. Koos did. We felt we hit the jack pot. I had the surgery on September 3rd 2016. It went so well, I felt safe, cared for and was very well watched over. Dr. Steven Koos after the surgery called my family in a lovely room for me to rest. Gave me all I needed to care for myself in the following days. Called me that same night to see how I was doing and gave me his cell phone number in case I needed anything. All his patients are important to him, that's for sure. He is #1 in my books! I thank you Dr. Koos, you are one of a kind and the price was well considered.
