I saw dr reis. He hooked up my tooth in no time at all. It was hurting, but I walked out of there with no pain at all.

When we arrived, we were told that I would have to pay $185 out of pocket for a 3D scan. I said I wanted to talk to the doctor first. Dr. Ries came into the lobby and said he wouldn't even see my daughter if I didn't pay for a 3D scan. I paid and then he made me leave the room before he examined my daughter. I've never had that happen before. I want back after a few minutes and was asked to leave again. After a very short examination, Dr. Ries called me into to say my daughter needed a root canal, even thought the 3D scan didn't show any serious issues. The whole place seems like a root canal mill with the added bonus of unnecessary charges. read more

* Beware of billing misinformation - you may be charged months later! Prepare to pay out-of-pocket for any treatment, regardless of what is said by staff in the offices. I received a treatment related to a root canal at Care Endodontics several months ago. While in their office, I was not shown a bill, and was informed by staff that my treatment was 100% covered by my insurance. I went through the with procedure. Now, several months later, the office has contacted me and stated that I am required to pay $1,500 out of pocket, because my insurance is not covering it. The office waited almost 2 months to submit the claim - for a bill I had never been shown - and by this time I have received additional dental treatment related to the root canal. Responding to this sudden charge, I was told that the 100% coverage information I was given in their office on the day of service was just an "estimate" and that "insurance decisions can be unpredictable". I was not informed of this at the time of the procedure or shown a bill. I was also not informed that I may have to pay out-of-pocket for this service if my insurance was not billed in a timely manner. If I had received any of this information, I would have refused the procedure. I was lied to in their office and am now being pressured to pay a bill I did not agree to. This is both unethical and unprofessional, especially as the agency has been operation for several years and has likely faced similar issues before. I have shared this with the staff, and they are repeatedly texting me and requesting payment, as early as 7:30am. I have requested that they cease texting and communicate via my email, and the texts have persisted. This kind of business practice is shameful and likely illegal, and ultimately fraudulent as clients are pressured to pay HUGE ($1,500) fees that they did not agree to. read more

Dr. Carrara was able to start the process to perform my root canal within about an hour of when my regular dentist said I needed it to be done. this was partially a lucky coincidence that my regular dentist works in the office on the same floor and knows her, and also that she had a cancellation, but in part that Dr. Carrara and her staff stayed later than usual to accommodate me. Dr. Carrara and her excellent staff explained the procedure before she started the root canal. She also talked with me as she was giving me novocaine about our shared interest in gardening which helped ease my anxiety since I had never experienced a root canal procedure. She is a real "people person" for figuring out quickly how to "talk me down" and away from that anxiety cliff. I had heard horror stories about root canal procedures from others, but honestly, Dr. Carrara and her wonderful staff made the procedure seem easy and pain free for me. She prescribed safe, non opioid meds to address the post op pain and tooth infection that truly kept me pain free after the procedure. Her staff followed up with me the morning after the procedure to check on my progress. Really excellent customer service! I hope you, who are reading this review, never need to have a root canal procedure, but if you do, everything will be just fine if you choose Dr. Carrara and her caring, knowledgeable staff to help you. I am TERRIFIED of the dentist. I have massive anxiety. Being a yelper, I looked at the reviews beforehand and honestly, it increased my anxiety ten-fold. I saw reviews that said the front desk is rude, unprofessional, etc. From my first interaction with Dora, I felt a lot better. Dora has been nothing short of exemplary. She has answered my questions, and even checked in with me because they couldn't get in right away. That was extremely caring and over/above what I could have asked for. I am very thankful for Dora and her kindness towards me. I feel like she is truly empathetic and caring. I was seen by Dr. Reis and his dental assistant. I wish I could have gotten her name because honestly, she was so amazing. I have massive dental anxiety and I think she could tell how upset I was. She let me put on my headphones and was just overall caring and sweet. She told me every time she was going to suction and every time she was going to enter my mouth. Dr. Reis was also amazing. He told me absolutely everything he was going to do, while he was doing it. Prior to doing my root canal, he gave me options. He respected my decision when I said I wanted to do whatever I could to save my teeth. I kept joking that they'd keep seeing me because I have terrible teeth (seriously) and he turned my negative into a positive and kept saying, "that's great. It just means you're taking care of yourself." They took their time with me and did not rush me at all. I was really fearful that it was going to hurt. It did not. They checked with me to make sure I was fully numbed. They use awesome technology and are very persistent. They took many images of my teeth and explained why they were needed. I was extremely happy with the care I got here. I would highly recommend it to people like me -- people who thought they needed anti-anxiety medication to even enter a dental office. I think I could honestly go there without anti-anxiety medication because they made it such a breeze. Its so hard for me to believe that they have any negative reviews. Dr. Carrara even came in to apologize for not being able to get me in sooner, and was overall very kind to me. I visited Dr. Ries for an emergency consultation. I was in severe pain and nothing would help. My dentist immediately referred me to Dr. Ries, upon consultation he immediately squeezed me into his schedule for a same day procedure. Being someone who has had some traumatic dental experiences, the phrases "emergency root canal" and "this is a serious situation, you'll likely be in pain for several days" doesn't help with my uneasiness. But, Dr. Ries and his team were great, made sure I was comfortable and kept me entertained throughout. Dr. Ries checked on me throughout the weekend and adjusted my treatment plan based on pain levels. I can't recommend Dr. Ries enough! As other people mentioned, there is a required scan that is not covered by dental insurance. It wasn't cheap, but Dr. Ries does analyze the scan in front of you and the quality of the 3D image makes it clear why they prefer this scan over traditional x-rays when dealing with medical issues. When scheduling the appointment, Dora does a great job explaining expected out of pocket costs based on your insurance. (P.S. Dora is incredibly kind and helpful!) read more

My dentist referred me here for a root canal in 2020. After the procedure I was asked to pay half the amount ($700) due to "not knowing what insurance would cover" so I did. I have CONTINUED to receive random bills from this place with past due threats. At this point, I've paid another $1k for the procedure and now have ANOTHER bill for $300. There is no information on the bill. Just an amount and a threat. I see a few reviews from folks in similar situations where this place has responded directly and said they are lying about being overcharged and getting mysterious bills. They are not. 1. There was some miscommunication about my appt time. My conf email says 11am, then when they called to confirm my appt a few days before, they said it was 10:30.. I get to their office at 10:20, and they told me I had missed my appt which was at 9am. I was extremely annoyed (also partly because I couldn't find their office for 10 mins, walking up and down the street), but they were able to squeeze me in (and only waited 5 mins!!!). They were so nice that I felt bad about being annoyed and snapping at the front desk person. My general dentist also didn't send them my referral, but they worked it out with me. 2. They take covid precautions more seriously than any of the hospitals I've been to/ work at (I currently work at two different hospitals and my doctor is also at a different hospital). They make you sanitize/wash your hands at every turn, everyone is wearing proper PPE, AND they even wrapped my credit card (after I had paid) in a disinfectant wipe! (Many hospitals are so stingy with wipes these days that I was impressed with this sort of luxury lol) 3. The staff was SO nice (I think her name was Katya?) and was SO patient with me saying huh? every time they gave me instructions because I could not hear anything through their N95 masks lol. Dr. Ries is very good at what he does. I came in for a consultation and ended up deciding right there that I was just gonna go ahead with the root canal so I had about 20 mins to mentally prepare myself and it was all for nothing because I felt 0 pain before, during, and after. It has been two days since I had this procedure and I felt 0 pain, soreness or any swelling. 4. They made sure I was aware of how much I was paying before doing ANY work. Right off the bat, they told me the breakdown cost of my visit and explained why they were charging me whatever they were charging me. Then again right before Dr. Ries started my root canal procedure, he double checked with me to make sure I had been told how much I was paying for. No sketchy tricks like other dentist offices. 5. The only disappointment I have is that Dr Ries doesn't also do cleanings, extractions, fillings, crowns. I asked him why he doesn't do implants expecting something like not too many people get them or something shallow, but he said it was because he didn't do enough in school to actually be good at it. Good dentists are rare (trust me, I've been to A LOOOOOTT of dentists), but Dr. Ries is literally one in a million. Thank you so so so much this was the only dentist visit I have been to in a long time where I don't feel like I am sitting in a torture chair when I sit down nor did I feel like an ATM afterwards. Once upon a time, I received a deep cleaning from a dentist who was so heavy handed that I was wincing and digging my nails into the seat. To this day, I am convinced she was a sadist. My root canal at CARE yesterday was waaaaay less painful than that. Actually, it was pretty darn close to painless. Even that shot at the beginning that people always caution you will be the part that hurts, it didn't hurt. I was a bundle of nerves when I walked in - I may or may not have fallen down a google search rabbit hole of root canals the night before. But it was hard to stay that way when the staff was so accommodating. Friendly, funny, and explaining to me just what would happen and encouraging me to not be freaked out. Dr. Ries was excellent. Apparently my teeth are just like my veins, they tend to make things difficult, but he made this procedure as comfortable as possible, while being thorough and meticulous. I'm eating soft mango with very little discomfort as I write this, so I'd say that so far, it was a success! Now I'm not going to say that I can't wait for my next trip because, well, I'd prefer to not need more root canals. But I will say that it's comforting to know I'd be in good hands. read more

I've had to come here for two separate root canals - which is never fun. lol However, Dr. Ries literally makes every visit so great that I actually enjoy the visit! Now, I have anxiety ESPECIALLY about needles and dental surgeries. Which means, I completely and totally hate visiting the dentist or anything in regards to that. So I have every reason to just HATE having to do this but both times I went, the entire staff was so accomodating to my emotions. They didn't rush me, they were patient when I would have a mini emotional breakdown, or if I felt any pain - they would even offer to let me hold their hand. (Dora, I apologize for probably breaking your hand during my last root canal. lol hahaha). Both of my dental surgeries went by fairly quickly considering what they were doing. Dr. Ries made me laugh - even when I wanted to cry. But it's hard to be super sad (even when you're in pain) when he's making you laugh and just making you think of other things. He worked really quickly but still efficiently. I was referred by Dr. Sfikas and I am so grateful for this referral. I totally recommend coming to this office. They are so kind (they even call you a few days after your surgery to be sure you're ok! Just wow! Great customer service). From the front desk, to the dental assistants, to the dentists themselves are just amazing! PLUS they are SO accommodating financially - which is honestly just....the icing on top of the cake. I went for a consult on a potential root canal based on tooth cracking on popcorn kernel. I didn't end up needing root canal. I then had the tooth extracted at another location. They billed my insurance $5k to look at my mouth for 20 mins. Thats right, $5,000. I didn't have any procedures done here. Six months later they are trying to bill me another $195. read more

It's hard to assign 5 stars for a root canal, but as far as root canals go this was a pleasant experience. Dr. Carrara has convenient hours. After calling around to several dentists, I found that getting someone to perform a root canal that does not require me to take a day off of work was nearly impossible. Dr Carrara was able to get me in at 8am; which meant I didn't have to take a precious sick day. I got the appointment with only a week's notice. Dr. Carrara, or Julie as she asked to be called was hilarious. I definitely have never discussed Bravo reality tv in depth with any physician I have ever been to visit in my life. I personally appreciated her colorful use of the term douchebag to describe our mutual hated reality tv stars. She was a hoot! She also reminded me that every patient she has is like a blind date and it's so true. As far as blind dates go, I'd see her again. Back to the serious stuff, apparently my tooth was pretty far gone and she wasn't sure she would even be able to save it, but 2 hours later and a hefty bill (but I think that's the case everywhere for a root canal), my tooth was saved and I was back to work. My only complaint is the parking. Yes, they do offer valet but for $8 and it does irk me that I'm shelling out hundreds of dollars for an appointment and they can't validate the parking but it is what it is I suppose. read more

I've gone to Dr. Carrara twice and both times she treated me with with compassion and care. On my last visit, I made an emergency appointment because of a cracked wisdom tooth - except I didn't know that was the problem. She quickly diagnosed the issue and got me into an oral surgeon that day (like an hour later) What you will notice about her is how she spends time with patients. I appreciated her not trying to sell me a bunch of procedures - something my previous dentist tried to do incessantly. Can't say getting a root canal is something I enjoyed, but let me tell you...this office makes it as pleasant as possible. I've had two visits so far and each time I left, it was like leaving a friend's house. Every single person in that office is helpful, kind and patient. Just hearing a drill starts me freaking out and they handled me so, so well. The doctor is very good at explaining things and I enjoyed everything she took the time to teach me. Which is rare these days, everything is so fast, quick no time to make a friendly impression. Next, Dr. Carrara is simply amazing! To say the least. She is the BEST! (Hands down)!! From the very first time I met her, she made me feel at ease about getting a root canal. After having a bad experience at my dental office,I was happy to meet Dr. C. Her chair side manner was calming, friendly and pleasant. She explain what she saw on my X-ray/scan, she explained her plan of action and what she would be doing throughout the procedure. She took time and care to prep my mouth to ensure my other teeth & mouth were protected during the procedure, she even gave me chap stick before the procedure to ensure my lips would not crack! I went to Care Endodontics on 11-14-2021, to have "numbers 25 and 26 (or was it 26 and 27)" treated, on a referral from my regular dentist. While the purpose of this review is to give kudos to the entire fabulous staff, starting with the receptionist, I'd especially like to mention the great care I received from Dr. Ries. I have never been overjoyed to see a dentist, mainly because of the expectation of pain whenever they do something to you. Dr. Ries has an easygoing "bedside manner" that allayed my concerns about both enduring pain, or that I would get less than the satisfactory care I needed. Part of my concern was that my dentist's referral only said "treat as needed," which to me was vague and didn't tell Dr. Ries just what my problem was and how he consequently needed to treat me. And I sure couldn't tell him anything! But he took x-rays, called my dentist for a quick consultation, and was able to determine the correct approach. He PAINLESSLY was able to treat my teeth, without disturbing the new temporary bridge I had. Dr. Ries is first-rate! If I have to return to CARE Endo, I'm going to request him by name. The rest of the staff was fabulous also. I wish I had the name of the assistant who took care of me just before & after my treatment. She was very professional, and deserves a shout-out as well. Scheduling my appointment with Dora over the phone was a breeze and her follow-up with me post procedure was great. She's very knowledgable about the process and was able to answer my questions on the spot. Dr. Carrara was very friendly, gentle and transparent. Prior to getting started she walked me through the how and the why, introduced me to her staff that would be assisting and allowed me to settle in. They were able to schedule me that same day and perform the root canal with no problems. When I called, they were able to give me a estimate over the phone, which ensured there were no surprises when I finished the treatment. She is incompetent and careless (literally poked me in the face with the novocaine needle and poked me in the head with the drill while waving it around) and in consequence of her shoddy work I had to have a tooth pulled and I can't afford the $6000 for an implant. So as a child I had horrible dentists. Screaming and crying was common. With my relocation to the Windy City I've found a good dentist who told me I needed a couple of root canals. I was referred to Dr. Carrara by my dentist for a root canal. The office staff was welcoming and even cracked some jokes with me which I appreciated as it helped lighten the mood. I mean, who's excited to get a root canal? Not only did Dr. Carrara take the time to explain to me what she was going to do, she even sparked up a conversation while the Novocain kicked in. During the procedure she made sure I was comfortable and before I knew it, it was already over. Usually, I leave the dentist office drained of energy due to being stressed while sitting in that chair. Not this time. I actually left with a smile and the day after I'm in less pain than expected. They even called to check up on me. Too often Dentist tend to be cold and are focused on "getting the work done" instead of treating the patient with care and class. Not here! Wow. I feel so grateful to have found Dr. Julie Carrara's practice! I read the reviews and wondered how the practice could live up to the stellar comments but they absolutely did!! To a person everyone in this office is kind, genuine, professional and skilled (extra thank you Dora and Sandra!). And Julie has one of the absolute best bedside manners I've ever experienced! You know when you meet a provider who has an air of being incredibly competent and even joyful about their work? It's so comforting because you feel that they take pride in their work and really care, and you just know you are in good hands. That is how I would describe Dr. Julie Carrara. I've never had a root canal before and she was excellent at every step--getting the best data with x-rays and a 3D scan since this was for a tooth with a crown, and showing and talking me through the results, her plan and rationale. And she was so caring about my comfort while clearly also dedicated to uncompromisingly excellent work during my procedure and follow up appointment. Not to mention she is the loveliest conversationalist! She put me truly at ease, which was a tall order considering how anxious I felt coming in. I don't wish the need for a root canal on anyone but I feel 100% confident I would be doing any of my friends a favor by sending them to Care Endodontics. I had a root canal done in October. Prior to my appointment, I was beyond terrified. I had heard how painful root canals are and quite honestly, after, I was like is that really it? I've had fillings that have caused so much more pain! The office is located in the same building as my dentist. They were able to run down and grab my previous x-trays. The staff was friendly although since it's a smaller office they seem to chatter a lot and it can be distracting while you're in the chair. My dental insurance has a chart of how much I should expect to pay for certain procedures, etc. and they definitely followed the rules of my insurer as there was no surprise when it came to paying my bill. My experience with Dr. Carrara was very, very positive. I was also in for a root canal which she explained thoroughly, answering all my questions. It turned out that she advised against it, and explained what my options were, and made sure I knew what my next steps were. No pressure, just good information. Her staff were very friendly and professional, as was Dr. Carrara herself. I got the impression from others in the waiting room who'd been to her before that, despite the painful nature of their visits (endontics = never fun), they held the folks at Dr. Carrara's practice in high regard. I know I'll have to have at least one more root canal in the near future, and I will definitely go back to her for the work. read more
