I saw Dr. Van for a root canal. She was such a pleasure to be a patient of! After my terrible experience at another dental practice, I was weary of dentists after. She helped me gain trust in the dental profession again. She was very informative, thorough, and easy to talk to. She explained everything step by step. She offered different services to me to enhance my root canal treatment at extra costs. I accepted the new treatments, but, when she numbed my tooth, the level of numbness was not strong enough for the special treatment. So, she said I wasn't a candidate for the extra treatments. It just made me feel like she was looking out for me and not trying to get me to pay more to use extra services. Her treatment plan was very patient centered. I'm pregnant and adjusted my treatment/discharge plan based on my pregnancy. My appointment was from 8am to 10:30am. This included the X-rays, treatment option discussions, time to numb my tooth, then the extra time to numb my tooth because my nerve was being stubborn, the root canal itself, post-treatment x rays, post-treatment plan and instructions. Her ancillary staff were also so kind and professional. They really knew how to run an office! I called the front desk a few times to change my appointment date and they were all really nice about it and it was easy to reschedule. I appreciated them telling me how much the treatment would be and they checked my insurance to make sure I was in network before doing anything. I had a positive experience with an attempted retreatment root canal. I originally met with Dr. Cheng on an emergency visit to look at a badly infected abscess on my #13. Upon examination of the x-rays, he suggested the tooth be opened up to assess the situation. A day later, Dr. Teahen did the procedure. I was numbed up very well and felt no pain. About halfway through, he stopped drilling and looking at the inside of my canal with the scope. Sadly, the tooth could not be saved. It was too far gone. He told me he could have attempted to do the retreatment but in 6 months, there was a high probability it would fail and need extraction. I honestly appreciated the honesty here and not trying to milk me for money. While I'm disappointed the tooth could not be saved, I appreciate him being real about it. I had a root canal here by Dr. Van. Let me tell you, I am extremely hard to please, and I am also terrified of the dentist after several unpleasant experiences. Dr. Van is very warm, genuine, and caring. I felt ... RELAXED during the root canal!! Granted, a root canal is never a party, but, I felt no pain during the procedure whatsoever. I've had fillings that were more uncomfortable and painful than this. When I started to feel some pressure towards the end as the anesthetic had started to wear off, she quickly jumped into action to ensure I was comfortable again. I'm definitely coming to her for any further treatment should I need it. Also, they let you bring in a loved one for moral support. They will bring you a warm blanket. I have a terrible back and neck and they accommodated me with a neck pillow and I noticed their dental chair had extra padding. I came here on a referral from Compass Dental early on a Monday morning after having a severe toothache all weekend. Compass did a great job, but ultimately needed to refer me to Lakeview Endodontics for a more complete scan. I met with Dr. Cheng and he was sooooo good. He walked me through what was happening, showed me the CT scans, and discussed options in a completely realistic way. No, it wasn't everything I wanted to hear, but he was right on the money and gave me no bullshit - exactly what you want in a doctor. But above and beyond that, he told me what they could and couldn't do for me at that moment. He and his staff worked to find me an oral surgeon to go to (same day!!) to take care of my problem, and gave me an honest assessment of several oral surgeons and who they recommended. Dr. Cheng spent a lot of time with me to make sure I knew what I needed to do and what my options were. And all he charged me for was the CT scan. I can't say enough about Dr. Cheng and Lakeview Endodontics. If you want a no-nonsense, no BS doctor, this is your place. I would trust them totally. I was quoted one price for my fee after insurance. But when I got there in person I was told there was another $190 for a scan that my insurance didn't cover. Odd that they discovered that only when I was there in person. Then I was told I needed a set of xrays. I said my dentist just did a full set of xrays and sent them over. They said they didn't have them, it's a saturday and my dentist isn't in. It was high pressure that the doctor needed these xrays in order to evaluate me and he needed them today. I said I wasn't going to pay for a second set of xrays. They did wave the fee for the xrays. It seemed very high pressure with the extra fees and the only reply was "the doctor needs them". I had recently had a filling done on one of my back top molars that had irritated the nerve and eventually needed an emergency root canal. Lakeview Endodontics was able to see me the same day that I called and treated my tooth in less than an hour during my first visit. While I did experience more pain than is typical following the procedure (I guess you're supposed to wait before flying due to elevation changes), I am completely satisfied with the work done by Dr. Van and her team. She made me feel more than comfortable, which is saying something considering my fear of dental work! During my second visit to finish the root canal, she ensured that the tooth was properly cleaned and shaped and even gave me a nice warm blanket which kept me comfortable in their chilly office. TLDR- Dr Cheng proscribed a root canal, but the problem was actually an incorrectly performed filling. As the old saying goes, if all you've got is a hammer, then everything's a nail. Lakeview Endodontics has one tool -- the root canal. After tooth pain at my dentist, I got a referral here. On arrival, things seemed great -- x rays taken right away, a bit of tapping, which caused no pain. The investigation stopped there. Dr. Cheng took a perfunctory look at the X-rays, and rattled off a rushed and clearly oft-repeated speech about irreversible pulp damage, and the only options being root canal or pull the tooth. The perfunctory exam made me hesitant. I got a second opinion at a new dentist. The tests performed at this second location were far more thorough -- tapping, cold sensitivity with dry ice, pressure, bit analysis. This dentist noted that my response was normal on the pained tooth, causing her to investigate the X-rays more closely and find a problem with a poorly placed filling. Replacement solved the problem. In summary, this endodontist recommended a non-reversible procedure because they rushed the intake and diagnosis. Caveat emptor. read more

Long story short.....I recently needed 2 root canals but have a fairly bad fear of the dentist! (all those drilling sounds set me on edge!) My dentist referred me to Dr. Mary who couldn't have been more professional or patient with me. She really took her time explaining everything to me and making sure I was comfortable. Once you're numbed up, you won't feel any pain whatsoever. If you're nervous, I highly recommend wearing noise cancelling headphones for this procedure - that really helped me. Dr. Van is fantastic. Root canals are not meant to be enjoyable experiences, but Dr. Van and her staff do a great job of making the process as painless as possible. I've had a few root canals done, and recently had a re-treat root canal on a back molar from a failed root canal performed at a different endodontist's office. Dr. Van did a great job walking me through the process and is very conservative. In the end I needed the tooth extracted, but I truly appreciated her honesty in telling me that it would be the best route vs having me go through additional treatments just to have them fail a year or two down the road. I had an unknown infection causing severe pain for a few days, and my primary dentist sent me to see Dr Roman and Dr Van for help. They re-arranged their calendars (2 consecutive days) to see me, consulted with each other, and successfully diagnosed two issues. Not sure which of the two points I'd cheer loudest for them: (1) patience and research to find the problems; or (2) bedside manners ... it matters when people in medicine give a shit. Both doctors followed up with emails and texts to check on me, and both offered to speak to other dentists about my issue (implant referral) to assure he applies the same research principles to fix my problem. Dr. Van and her staff are amazing - what a find! The Saturday of the 4th of July weekend, I woke up at 2 AM in excruciating pain. I had an appointment for a root canal with Dr. Van set for Wednesday, but I called Dr. Van's office at 8 AM on Saturday and the staff found a way to squeeze me in for a consult with Dr. Van that afternoon. When I saw Dr. Van, she recommended that I get the tooth extracted ASAP. The problem was, it was a holiday weekend and most oral surgeons were gone. But the staff at Lakeview Endo started making phone calls around the city and actually got me in to see an oral surgeon that afternoon! I had never seen Dr. Van before, but she made me feel like a long-time patient. She was so empathetic about my situation, and her staff's support really made me feel cared for. Dr. Van also told me that if I could not get in to see a surgeon that day, she could still perform the root canal, although the tooth would have to come out soon. Her honesty made me like and trust her all the more. If I ever have a need for a root canal in the future, there is no doubt where I will go. read more

My dentist was not sure if I needed a root canal so she sent me to the expert, Dr. Mindy Van. The office is beautiful and modern. The dental chairs are very comfortable, all of the equipment is new and everything is very clean. They play Vitamin String Quartet (my fav!) at a soft level, which can help ease someone who may be worked up about their appointment. The staff were pleasant to work with and they were able to fit me into their schedule within just a few days. Dr. Van is not only great at what she does... she's also a wonderful person! She narrated the entire process and kept me informed about every step. She answered all of my questions and helped me understand how my tooth's damage was related to my habitual grinding/clenching.
