Most unprofessional, inappropriate, aggressive and uncomfortable dental experience I've ever had. I'm new to Chicago and chose this dentist because they were covered by my insurance, had good reviews, and were open past 5. The front desk staff seemed friendly at first, and I came in for a cleaning where I was told I had a couple cavities. Fair enough. When I returned for my fillings, the entire appointment felt rushed and careless. Two fillings were completed in about 20 minutes, one of which actually had to be redone because it popped out during the process. They were NOT small fillings and I was alarmed how quickly he was moving. The drilling felt extremely aggressive, and at no point did the dentist seem to take my comfort into account. I've had fillings before, but never one this stressful. Afterward, while I was checking out, the receptionists began discussing political opinions with me completely unprompted. I made it clear I do not share her option and I donn't want to engage (more than once), but the conversation was pushed further anyway, leaving me extremely uncomfortable. Telling me she thinks it's good people are getting fired for criticizing a certain political figures, then asking me what MY political opinions are, all while holding my insurance card with my EMPLOYERS NAME on it. Excuse me??????? What would remotely make you think it was ok to berate a customer whose mouth is still half numb from the filling about politics?? Regardless of your beliefs (which I did NOT care what these stupid dental receptionists think in the slightest lol) that was wrong on so many levels. Something seriously wrong with these people. I cannot emphasize enough, go to any of of the many dental offices in Chicago that would never treat a patient like this. You should be embarrassed and ashamed of yourselves. read more

I moved from the city and still drive back to see Dr. Pressling for all dental needs. He is simply the best. Skilled, artful, honest.

I had an appointment at 1:30pm for intense wisdom teeth pain. The dental assistant was so lovely and patient because I have a really bad gag reflex that gets exacerbated when I'm anxious (which I was). She rubbed my arm to calm me and even gave me a hug at some point, it was so sweet. They worked with me to get the x-ray, despite my gag reflex causing some issues. Dr. Pressling then told me they were going to extract the two wisdom teeth on that side and joked around with me to ease my nerves. They communicated to my boyfriend, who was sitting up front, what procedure was going to happen. They made sure my mouth was fully numb before starting the extraction. Dr. Pressing sang Piano Man by Billy Joel while I hummed it and it was over within 15 minutes. All in all, we were out by 2:30. I'm so thankful to have found them because I was in excruciating pain coming into the office and left with it resolved! read more

On September 28, 2024 I went to a dentist to get relief for pain I was experiencing on a lower front tooth, afterwards I was in worse pain then before I arrived. I checked on line to find a 24 hour emergency care dentist and I left voicemails with several. The only dentist that I heard from on the night of the 28th was from Dr. P , he left me a voicemail and texts to call him back to schedule an appointment for the very next morning. That next morning Dr. P looked over a picture of my xray from the prior dentist and noticed the problem right away. Plus after the procedure was done which took a total of about 30 minutes , I was given antibiotics for an infection from said tooth right then and there. I can't thank Dr. P enough for the fast and professional care I received from him and how relaxed and comfortable he made me feel in a very stressful and painful situation. I'm not one to post reviews on to much of anything however I feel Dr. P at Augusta Dental in Chicago deserves such a review. So I'm embarrassed to admit how long it's been since I visited a dentist as I have a huge fear of dentistry. Dr Pressling was amazing!!!! I had the most horrible toothache and on top of that I was terrified I'd have to have my teeth removed. I needed extra anesthesia for a root canal and two fillings. Again Dr Pressling was amazing! He did my dental work in such a quick efficient manner and moreover HE SAVED MY TEETH!!!! I'm so relieved and satisfied with his work. He's very friendly and tells stupid dad jokes lol. Writing this review because I trusted all of the good reviews and gave this dentist a chance -- huge mistake. I called to get an emergency checkup for my wisdom teeth, as I was dealing with intense pain in my gums. Figured I would have to get the tooth out but also wanted to consider other options in case I could just get some antibiotics to clear up the infection. Dr. Pressling's assistant took a few X-Rays of the affected tooth and he decided to remove it. I told Dr. Pressling I didn't want to get my tooth extracted because of a trip I had coming up and he told me that I would be fine in 2 days (never mind the fact that wisdom teeth can take up to 2+ weeks to fully heal) so I said okay we can do the extraction. Despite the fact that he didn't fully explain this to me, he pretty much decided on his own he would be taking out both the top and bottom tooth on the affected side (even though he only X-Rayed ONE TOOTH). He proceeded to numb me with 0 warning that he would be putting a giant needle in my mouth. He didn't tell me when he would be putting the needle in and didn't even count down before he injected the numbing medicine, which startled me and made me feel a bit unsafe in his chair. He was very rough while administering the numbing agent even when I was clearly in pain and uncomfortable. He did not show any care towards me or even acknowledge how painful it is to have someone just stab a needle in your cheek and jerk it around. He also had me sign the consent form AFTER he had already numbed me. He never fully explained how he would be removing the tooth either and continuously did things without even explaining why or how the procedure would go. There was 0 bedside manner or compassion with this doctor. I also communicated early on that I am on a medication that interacts with anti inflammatory medications like ibuprofen so I do not take them. Dr. Pressling proceeded to give me two ibuprofens prior to the procedure (which I admit I should have spoken up about, but I am not the most assertive person in the world). This was literal minutes after I had told him I do not take ibuprofen. I don't know if he didn't listen, or didn't care, or both. I waited in the chair for my mouth to get numb, feeling more and more uncomfortable with how this doctor was handling a procedure that made me extremely nervous. Dr. Pressling then came in, said we were ready and then didn't even check if I was fully numbed before putting an instrument that looked like a pick in my mouth and pressing on my tooth with extreme pressure to remove it. I began to cry and told him that I would like to stop the procedure there, but he still had to get the rest of the tooth, so I laid there as a dentist I had just met, who poked at me and numbed me with little care for my comfort, a dentist who didn't even bother explaining the procedure to me, pushed on my tooth with extreme force and not a care in the world. As I left, Dr. Pressling followed me when I went to pay my bill to ask what went wrong. I told him I hope he never treats another patient like this ever again, explaining to him how he numbed me without even warning me and didn't explain anything he was doing at all. He flat out denied the fact that he numbed me without warning AND WITHOUT ME EVEN SIGNING THE CONSENT FORM YET. I got more agitated as I told him I just wanted to pay my bill and leave as his bedside manner was horrific. I cried the whole time I was paying my bill, and even overheard one of the desk ladies say that I was clearly traumatized. Yes, I was. This was the worst, most degrading and invasive dental experience of my life. My boyfriend (who was in the waiting room) walked me to the car before running back in to ask about my antibiotics prescription. He told the front desk that the dentist had given me ibuprofen, and Dr. Pressling denied that too. The front desk workers proceeded to tell my boyfriend the medications the dentist had given me and the details of the procedure (a complete HIPAA violation) and then gave him amoxicillin from a bottle into a little paper bag for me (pretty sure this is also illegal). If you are considering seeing this emergency dentist, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. He does not care for patient's comfort at all, will lie to you and won't even apologize. This just happened today so I can't speak to how the socket will heal but I know I will never go to see this dentist again. I now completely understand why the reviews are so low at this facility. I worked successfully in the dental industry for serval years. This office only gets a star fro answering on a Sunday lol. I called and sent an X-ray prior. I also explained that we were coming from Far distance and live out of town. Although money was not an issue and we were out of pocket patients- My fiancé was turned around and asked to leave in excruciating pain and come another day because he had to drop his young daughter off prior to the appointment and could not make it exactly at the time requested. That level of care and lack of service is disgusting and something I've never seen. The audacity to think that anyone would return in the same pain they left in on a normal business day when there are hundreds of dental offices open is a joke lol read more

Short version - Dr. Pressling is a smart, caring, reliable dentist and has been a true life-saver to me as I've been dealing with a very infected wisdom tooth. I will always go back to him and highly recommend him for any dental issue. Long long version - I had a tooth infection back in 2020 during COVID - called the 24 hour line and received a call ASAP from Dr. Pressling. Saw him the next day and he gave me a script for antibiotics and urged me to remove my semi-impacted wisdom tooth. Gave me a referral to a surgeon and answered all of my many questions. I stupidly ignored his advice after my infection cleared up and did not pull the wisdom tooth. Fast forward 3 years, that same tooth is reinfected WITH A VENGEANCE - much more swollen and painful and clearly did need to be removed. I called Dr. Pressling and he called back promptly even though it was after midnight. He listened to my concerns and said he could see me the following afternoon. I was so anxious about my infection, I ended up seeing another dentist who could squeeze me in earlier in the day - they gave me antibiotics and scheduled my extraction surgery for 3 weeks out. The antibiotics did not seem to be helping and I ended up calling Dr. Pressling again in the middle of the night in a panic. Despite the fact that I didn't even go see him that day, he again promptly returned my call and talked through my concerns about a secondary infection (which did, in fact, form) and gave me some tips for how to treat myself in the meantime until I could see him the following day. When I saw him the next day, he gave me stronger antibiotics (which I clearly needed for the severity of infection), asked where/when I was getting my surgery, and talked me through parts of that. He asked what sedation they'd be giving me to ensure it was enough for the severity of my issue. I could tell he actually cares. I am not even a long-time patient and have neglected my dental health due to lack of insurance and frankly laziness - a mistake I won't be making again! Despite my negligence and ignoring his advice the first time, Dr. Pressling still genuinely cares and is a smart, experienced dentist who I know I can trust. Outcomes: - My swelling from infection is down from the better antibiotics he gave me - I'm not totally broke because (despite some weird reviews on here) he didn't charge me an arm and a leg for these services (neither this time nor back in 2020) - I feel much more confident about how to proceed with this issue I'm having I can't figure out why there are bad reviews on here but to address some of the things I've seen... - "the office looks old and outdated" yes, sure lol it's not the best looking space. The other place I went to looked shiny new and the dentist had perfect bedside manner, yet they half-diagnosed my issue and were going to give me surgery with local anesthetic despite a more severe case requiring sedation. So, yeah, if it's most important to you that your dentist office looks like a Crate and Barrel with xrays and drills, this isn't the place. If you want a dentist who knows what he's talking about but hasn't updated his lobby furniture, Augusta Dental is just fine for you. - "They're thieves! Just want money!" - alright, no. Most affordable dentist I've ever seen, works with me even without insurance, never got a bill higher than was told it would be, always upfront about pricing and it's always been less than I expected. I don't actually know the insurance process since I don't have any, but have seen reviews about "they made me pay up front and submit to insurance to be reimbursed" - yeah, welcome to America. Insurance sucks and sometimes this is just how that works. - "Dr. Pressling urged me to get unnecessary procedures!" - first, it's on you to be your own advocate always. If you don't want or think you don't need a procedure - get a second opinion. Secondly, Dr. Pressling urged me to get what I, A LAYMAN NON-DENTIST, thought was an unnecessary, expensive procedure...I ignored him thinking I knew better, and now have a fully infected mouth/face. Maybe he errs on the side of caution and recommends procedures because he actually knows what can happen if you don't do them promptly. Just a thought. Alright, that's it. I don't work for Dr. Pressling lol I just had a really fantastic experience with him (more than once) and think he's the best dentist I've ever had. Wouldn't trust anyone else and am so baffled by some of the bad reviews I saw here so wanted to address them. I had a tooth that my regular dentist told me needed a root canal. The place they recommended me to was going to take a while to get me in, and the situation became an emergency over the weekend. Dr. P was able to see me on a Sunday. He did great work and I felt better almost immediately. He answered all my questions and was very patient with me. I used this practice after other practices in the area were not in my "Medicare Advantage" network. Part of the problem is scheduling an appointment. I am entitled to 2 "free cleanings" a year but can only schedule 1 a year out from my last visit; waiting for a cancellation for the other hopefully in the range of 6 months earlier. I absolutely love Dr. Pressling, and the staff in his office. I've had several procedures done by him, and he's been nothing but kind and patient with me. He's been able to see me for emergency appointments, which I really appreciate, as tooth pain is the WORST and most dentists aren't open at night. He's quick to get his work done, and I love that I never have to wait past my appointment time with him. I've been to other dentists that keep you waiting forever, whereas Dr. Pressling focuses on one patient at a time, making your appointment quick and respectful of your time. Lastly, I feel like Dr. Pressling and his staff want to do what's best for the patient and for their teeth, rather than what they can charge the most money for, which I can't say is the case for other dental offices I've been to. I had previously been seeing a different dentist who wanted to pull one of my teeth and do an implant, which was going to cost me several thousand dollars. I put it off at the time, partly because of the cost, and partly because I felt like the tooth that was chipped wasn't bad enough to need to be extracted. I saw Dr. Pressling for an unrelated issue, and asked him if he wanted to remove the tooth while I was numb, and he was shocked that the previous dentist said it needed to be extracted, because it was able to be repaired. He was able to fix the tooth, saving me a ton of money. That was more than a year ago, and I've had no issues with it since! Since I'd had several great experiences with Dr. Pressling and his team, I've made him my permanent dentist. I have to say, I'm a baby when it comes to tooth pain and I am a nervous wreck when I have to see a dentist. I started to get some tooth pain and was scared that I needed a root canal as I've had one before (not at Augusta Dental!) and was in pain during and for days after. Dr. Pressling was recommended by my husband so I figured I would try him and ignore the reviews below. I am so glad I did. I was able to get an appointment the same week, which I was not expecting. Of course a root canal was needed. It was preformed so quickly compared to my last one at another dentist, I thought to myself, no way this is going to fix my pain. After about a 25 minute appointment from start to finish, I had zero pain during or after the root canal was performed. Yes, my jaw was sore for a couple of days after, but nothing like the pain I was experiencing before the root canal. The office staff is amazing, they are helpful and professional. Dr. Pressling is now my new dentist. He is a down to earth guy, not a stuffy doctor that has a bad bedside manner. He's a professional and has ridiculously great pricing for his services. He and his dental assistants have such a great working relationship, each knows the next move the other is about to make. Amazingly talented staff. i had a dental emergency one saturday [pre-pandemic] - my temporary crown came loose and i needed someone to put it back in. of course this was the only place open. first red flag when we walked in: we overheard the dentist (pressling) screaming at somebody in the hall, distinctly remember him yelling the phrase "i don't give a shit about your baby" to a crying woman, sounded like it could have been a tenant of his. anyway i won't bore you with details, but here are the highlights of my experience, some of which are echoed by other people in previous reviews: -his gloves were dirty and had holes worn into them -he spent a significant amount of time feeling around my mouth with his filthy little fingers repeatedly telling me i needed x-rays and at least one root canal which he offered to perform on the spot. i declined and insisted that i just needed the temporary crown back on! pls -his breath smelled terrible up close, rotten, and i mean this in the most clinical way possible. probably wouldn't matter for like any other profession, but in this context it was alarming. -it actually took him like 3 tries to cram that crown back on idk what was going on, it felt kinda bruised at the end and i couldn't bite down properly. -charged me like $200+ up front even though i had insurance -in the coming weeks the office kept calling me and pressuring me to file a claim with my insurance even though i already paid **cherry on top**: when i got home and looked in the mirror, i saw that he put the crown on backwards!! after all that, i had to go back to my real dentist a day later to fix it again. TLDR: wildly unprofessional, medically unsafe, physically repulsive scam of a dental experience and i am horrified to find that they are still in business read more

Surprised to see bad reviews. This dentist saved me and my husband from so much pain! I called on a Sunday after having excruciating pain from a bad tooth. He called me back himself and got me in THE NEXT DAY. He did a root canal and I later went back so he could put a crown on. My husband needed the same thing. I thought it would be so painful and terrible, and I am normally terrified of the dentist. It was not nearly as bad as I thought and now, while I still don't enjoy the dentist, I feel so much better about going when I need to now. I'm really grateful I found this dentist. I recently went here to get my bottom wisdom teeth pulled and everyone in the office was so nice! They were so welcoming, I know I called a few times throughout the week to make an appointment and it was a huge relief that they were able to schedule me in the evening so I didn't have to take off time from work! He will proudly tell you he graduated from Northwestern's Dental School. The Northwestern University Dental School closed down on May 31, 2001, so that may tell you something. I Just found the poor reviews about this dentist, PLEASE believe the poor reviews. I wish I had trusted my instincts with this doctor and run out of his office! This doctor is horrible and needs a refresher course on cleanliness. I went to him as an emergency patient in pain. I told him I really wanted to save the tooth, if possible. Nevertheless, he pulled the large molar, but did not suture to help close the opening. Almost a month later, I have a big hole in my gums that I have to find a professional competent dentist to fix. I needed an emergency root canal and had swelling of the gland in my neck due to infection. Augusta Dental gave me an immediate appointment. Dr. Pressling was able to help start to relieve the pain right away. He was very quick and professional and was able to make sure all my issues were addressed. I made the mistake of ignoring a lot of the other reviews because all I needed was a cleaning and I made an appointment with Dr. Tsang. However, Dr. Pressling came in for part of my appointment and was both rude and aggressive and told me I had a gum issue no one else had ever said was urgent and tried to shame me for only flossing most days a week instead of every single day. I vowed never to go back. Then today I got this supremely rude email (attached) from them because I haven't responded to their emails to schedule a follow up appointment. "We hope that you have been seeking care with another dental provider. If you haven't, you're doing yourself a great disservice by neglecting your oral health." This is not the way to get return customers. It's rude and passive aggressive. Please please find a different dental office. read more

A bridge made by Doctor P caused more problems and now I am suffering the highest pain ever, the healthy tooth that was cut to put bridge now needs root canal therapy. Never ever go there! He lied about pricing to me. I have an abscess, and he recommended either to get a root canal or to get it extracted and get a dental bridge. Even though he gave me those two options, he pushed more heavily towards the extraction. He said that the root canal might fail because of the state my tooth was in. In addition to this, he told me the root canal would be around $600, while the extraction and bridge would be around $900. Because of this, I decided to get it extracted. At the end, I went to the front desk to pay and get the bill for the bridge, and it was a whopping $2300 for a bridge. If I knew the real price for it, I would have gotten the root canal. I only read the google reviews which are shockingly good and found these yelp reviews after my visit. To be honest every bad review about this dental office seems absolutely true now that I have had the misfortune of experiencing Dr. Pressley. I had made an appointment with an Endodontist for a root canal but couldn't stand the pain and looked up emergency dentists just hoping to get the abscess in my tooth drained. Dr Pressly told me I'd need a root canal which I already knew I needed. He said he performed them at least 4 times a day and could be considered an Endodontist. He had put on gloves and then pulled out his cell phone to show me a few pictures of clients with new sets of teeth. He did not replace his gloves. He then proceeded to numb my gums and was not very gentle about it. I usually have a pretty high pain tolerance as I was already in pain. He drilled quickly and pieces of tooth were in my mouth and he just flicked it out. He insert his drill at one point and I physically jumped in pain. His assistant kind of made a noise like 'oh you hurt her' and he commented that he needed to make sure he cleaned out the tooth fully. When I commented that I was feeling a lot more pain he said the nova-cane must have been wearing off but did not attempt to put more. I told him I had been previously told that I had long roots that needed special tools. When looking at my X-ray he said the root was normal and that my previous dentist didn't know what he was doing. His assistant didn't seem confident in what he was seeing as she looked at the xrays but he shushed her and kept going about his business. I again mentioned that the pain was pulsating and asked if he had drained the abscess I had. He said he would place my post and drain it which didn't really make much sense. He never at any point mentioned that he had placed medicine inside of the tooth and it only took him about 15-20 minutes to complete the root canal. He mentioned he had to be out of the office as soon as possible to go to an event his friend was having at 2 pm and I got the impression that he was rushing because of that. He said my pain was from the root canal and gave me two penicillin, an Advil liquid gel and two Tylenol liquid gels. He just gave them to me in my hand to put in my pocket and his assistant grabbed a small baggy to place them in. She told me to make sure and eat something before taking them. As I was leaving the pain I was feeling didn't feel like the previous I had after a root canal. My entire mouth on the right side was burning and painful. It has been almost 48 hours since my root canal and my mouth is still experiencing so much pain it's radiating as a headache and into my whole cheek. I have been taking extra strength Tylenol every 4 hours and took a full round of antibiotics yesterday. I paid $200 for a half assed root canal and an infection. I have a bad feeling about it. I should have just left after his first prep lady told me she goes to a different dentist. Luckily I found these reviews and have kept my appointment at a trusted Endodontist. Dr Pressling is the greatest. I was in pain. Called his number on a Saturday at 10pm. I was offered to come in on a Sunday. I was shocked to hear this was even able to be done. I came here on a Sunday and his customer service/professionalism was beyond expectations. Who would believe a dentist like this exists? Thank goodness for Dr Pressling. Pain is gone. read more

I have never been someone who dislikes the dentist, however after leaving this office I felt very uncomfortable. I never judge a book by the cover, however the outdated office speaks to the level of quality of the dental tools and the tactics for dental health, i.e. x-rays, cleaning, etc. I found the cleaning to be brutal both in feel and sounds, and the support to be lacking. A few months ago I broke a tooth and never went to a dentist. Well, for the last week the tooth was bothering me, and last night I got no sleep; it felt as if I was being stabbed in the jaw. My face was also starting to swell up. I called Augusta Dental Center in the middle of the night hoping to find someone with off hours. While they were closed, a really nice guy from their answering service wrote me down as an emergency case. Dr. Pressling called me back this morning and took me as soon as they opened. While I normally avoid dentists at all cost, this was a good experience. The staff was nice and Dr. Pressling was quick and efficient. The tooth was out before I knew it. Boy was I relieved! I will definitely be going back there the next time I need a dentist. read more

I haven't been to Augusta Dental in years but feel compelled to write a review to save others from the experience. To this day, I am still haunted by the dental work I had done there because ALL of it has had to be redone. If I could, I would give this place zero stars. I first went to Dr. Pressling when I was new to the city and didn't have a good job. I had an HMO, so I chose this office simply because it was near my home. It is horribly unsanitary. The place looks like it's never been cleaned and the tools are old and dirty. To make matters worse, he rested his tools on my stomach rather than on a sterile table. At one point, he couldn't even find one of the tools that he rested on me because it got lost among my clothing. He still proceeded to use it after it was found. Even though I was told I needed two fillings, when I returned for the appointment, he said I actually needed three. I was totally unprepared and confused as to why it changed without further examination. But I trusted him, so I let him do three fillings. At the end of the appointment, he tried to convince me to whiten my teeth. Who wants to be up-sold by a dentist or doctor? Totally tasteless and tacky. I never went back. I upgraded to a PPO just so that I wouldn't have to return. I ended up going to Dental Salon (which I highly recommend!!!) and they showed me photos of my upper teeth. I was horrified. The fillings he gave me actually had holes in them. HOLES. The holes were collecting food and particles, causing more damage. So they had to drill out his fillings and replace them. My current dentist could not believe what she saw. At this point, I don't even believe that I needed work done in the first place. I haven't had cavities since and find it hard to believe I had three at once in the first place. He is NOT to be trusted. My father encouraged me to write to Dr. Pressling and request refunds on all his shoddy work. But I just didn't want to deal with it. I have a new job and a decent salary. I would rather forego the money than ever have to deal with him again. But for everyone else out there who is choosing a dentist: BEWARE. read more

In the hunt for a new dentist, I found Augusta Dental Center...close to my apartment AND they accepted my insurance. After confirming with the original person I made the appointment with that I was a new patient in need of xrays, a cleaning, and the whole nine, I made my appointment. Unfortunately, due to my work schedule,I found out I needed to reschedule. When I called back to reschedule a few days after I made the initial appointment, the receptionist I spoke with was incredibly rude. When I introduced myself and explained that I was a new patient who had an appointment with Dr. Pressling and simply needed to reschedule to later in the afternoon on my appointment date or another date, she rudely stated that I had an appointment with the dental hygienist for a cleaning. I was a bit confused as typically in my experience while yes, new patients do see dental hygienists for cleaning, they also see the dentist after the cleaning and also get xrays taken. When I attempted to clarify/confirm, the receptionist was once again rude and had the attitude that I was wasting her time and was an idiot for not knowing. Trying to reschedule for later in the afternoon of my appointment date wasn't possible as appointment times were unavailable - no problem. I asked for another time that week. The whole conversation, I felt like I was pulling teeth (hah hah hah puns) to just try to reschedule an appointment. While I don't need anyone who I schedule services with to kiss my ass, having some manners and at least a modicum of a friendly demeanor would be helpful... as a result, I cancelled my appointment and will be looking elsewhere for a dentist. read more
