Dr. Rauf Yousuf is truly exceptional. From the very first appointment, he was kind, patient, helpful, and incredibly thorough. I needed an implant on my front tooth, which was honestly very scary for me. This wasn't a simple one- or two-visit procedure--it was a long, detailed process involving multiple stages of surgery and significant healing time. Throughout the entire journey, Dr. Yousuf took the time to explain every step, eased my fears, and never made me feel rushed. I was extremely impressed with his skill and attention to detail, as well as his willingness to work with my schedule. If I could give zero stars, I would. After a three-year fight with a bad HMO, our primary dentist finally found a place that would do a wisdom tooth extraction that was covered. Scheduled an appointment that they said "you're lucky to get because our doctors are booked solid." On the morning of, we had to find child care and get to their city office location, which was not close by at all. Looking at Google Maps, we discovered that we would be approximately 14 minutes late for the appointment. We called and were told "it's okay, it's a 15-minute maximum if you're late." Asked if we should still make the drive if we get there 14 minutes late, since we're desperate, and were told we would still be seen. Upon arriving at the EXACT MINUTE we said we would arrive, one of the receptionists gave us severe attitude and said "it's a 10 minute grace period, you won't be seen." She made no effort to assist us whatsoever, and as soon as we responded that we were told about a 15-minute grace period, she exclaimed "excuse me, *I* didn't say that!" The other receptionist, who was nice and clearly the one who told us we could still be seen, backed down to her nasty colleague and after a few minutes went and asked if we could be seen, which the doctor said no. After begging for a few more minutes to be seen due to the voyage of a drive and the need for child care just to show up, we were still denied. The doctor, who had no other patients at this time, claimed that they had an appointment a few minutes later. We waited around to see if another patient would walk through the doors, and they did not, but we were still not seen. Seeing that the clearly lazy doctor and nasty receptionist had it out for us without even knowing us, we left and made an appointment elsewhere. DO NOT give this place your business. They do not want your business. They clearly do not need your business. However this place is still IN business, I cannot imagine. Never in my life have I seen someone be turned away over a different of four minutes AFTER CALLING TO MAKE SURE IT WAS OKAY. Absolutely furious and I hope this place goes completely OUT of business. read more

I was referenced here by my dentist for a root canal. I call, give them my insurance info as well as the info about needing a root canal on my #2 tooth blah blah blah. They say "Cool your insurance will cover 80% of the cost, the root canal will cost between $850 and $1200, you will pay 20% day of the procedure" I make an appointment, 10 days later I show up. Upon my arrival, the front desk tells me that the procedure is $1200 and that my insurance only covers 50%, I will owe $665 today. This is incompetence at best and "bait and Switch" at worst. Very frustrating, especially when you have a toothache. read more

I had to have a root canal. Unfortunately, I got a crack in a molar that had a large filling, and then the cavity went really deep and near the root of my tooth. It hurt quite a bit, and even during the exam, my dentist numbed me up but it still hurt quite a bit. I was sent to Dr. John Pawluk at the Archer Dental Specialists on Fullerton. Since I had pain during the previous procedure with my regular dentist, I was absolutely terrified that I would feel the root canal. I even cried a bit in the waiting room. I assure you that Dr. Pawluk and his staff will take care of you if you have to come here for dental work. He ensured that I was comfortable and gently calmed my fears. I was smiling a lot when I left here - it's hard to imagine, but my root canal was a positive experience. Now my tooth can heal, and I know that if I need another root canal some day, I will be in good hands with Dr. Pawluk. I cannot recommend Dr. Pawluk and his wonderful staff enough! Other items: I was able to listen to my iPod during the procedure. Dr and the staff took the time to listen and talk to me. Checked in with me many, many time. The dental chair that you sit in is a Massage Chair as well. Very relaxing. The office is beautiful and professional and clean. The root canal was quick - so quick that I couldn't believe it. If I could give Dr. Pawluk 6 stars out of 5, I would. A truly caring, positive experience. read more

Office was clean and very modern. Normally I'm not impressed by gizmos but the equipment this office uses is very 21st century! Would certainly return to Dr. John if needed. I was experiencing serious root canal complications due to a poor cleaning job by my dentist, and was desperate to find anyone who could take me in for an emergency job. I found Archer Dental Specialists - I called closer to 7p and the receptionist squeezed me in for the next day for a consult and said although they were completely booked, if I was okay to wait they'd do some sort of procedure on me to address the crazy pain I was experiencing. I came in at 10a to see endodondist Dr. Bahrani and her assistant Alenia (sp?) who were so accommodating. I know they were extremely busy, but they were concerned that I hadn't eaten anything for days and my vitals seemed questionable. They even sent someone to go get me an orange juice across the street at a nearby gas station. When Dr. Bahrani checked out my tooth, she saw that we couldn't save it, and scheduled an emergency tooth extraction for me THAT DAY. I went down to the oral surgeon and got my tooth extracted. Although I'll have to get a tooth implant, I'm not in the kind of debilitating pain I've been experiencing for the past five days. I'm so grateful that I can finally move on with my life! read more

As one who works in the medical field, my fear of dentists always catches me off guard. When I say "fear" I am talking of cold sweats, shaking and tears. Yes, I know...it's a bit pathetic. It is for this reason I felt I had to write a review for Archer Dental. I cracked a tooth a few weeks ago and was sent to Dr. Pawluk with the hopes that this tooth could be saved. It was discovered that along with this chipped tooth the molar next to it was in equally bad shape. The horror that struck me when I was told I would need TWO root canals ASAP! I spent the following three days in a panic waiting to partake in this duel process. When my root canal day arrived, I was greeted by friendly faces at the front desk. Too my surprise, I was taken in 10 minutes earlier then my scheduled time and received immediate attention and explanation. Dr. Pawluk's assistant was kind and gentle and worked her best to soothe my fears. When Dr. Pawluk walked in the room he noticed the slight tears and did his best to calm me down and distract me as he started his work. He spent the entire procedure gently explaining everything that was going on; from the pressure I would feel in my mouth to the noises that I would be hearing. I can go on and on...but 45 minutes later with absolutely NO PAIN AT ALL the job was done. I sat up from one of the awesome massage chairs they have and (while slightly drooling) told Dr. Pawluk that if it was appropriate I would kiss him. I was that relieved and impressed. I never thought it would be possible to walk out of a dentist's office smiling, but this is exactly what happened. I truly trust Archer Dental on Fullerton (and this says a lot!). They openly and honestly discussed my insurance fees, patient fees, etc. I have sent a few people to him so far and they too have come back with similar fave reviews. read more

I went in last Thursday for my very first root canal. I sat in the waiting room for over 40 minutes waiting for my appointment. When they front desk staff finally took me they took me to the desk and had me pay for the entire procedure up front. This was a little bit awkward, but it I understand why they do it. These dental procedures cost a lot of money and the dentists need to get their money for the work they do. So I went back to the office and sat down in the chair, Dr. Pawluck came in and started to numb me up. He told me how fast he was going to be able to get the root canal done, and I was ready to go. I asked him "Is this going to hurt?" and he said "No the only part that will be uncomfortable is when you get the shots." This relaxed me and I waited while he did the shots and they froze me up. While the procedure was going on, I started to feel intense pain, I raised my hand and asked Dr. Pawluck for more freezing and he said 2 more minutes and I will be done, and then I will give you more. I was in intense pain and almost about to cry. I couldn't handle it, he was sodering my gums and they weren't even numb. I again asked for more numbing and he said he would after he was done. At one point I was in so much pain that I flinched and he proceeded to shout at me that I need to hold still or else he was going to accidentally burn me. I tried to stay as still as I could until he finished. When it was over I could barely stand up, I was in so much pain I thought that I was going to pass out when I stood up. I told him how much pain I was in and his response to me was, well I just severed your nerve you will be in pain. I was completely shocked, he gave me pain medication and I went on my way. I was absolutely blown away that they left me in so much pain. My fiancee had to come pick me up because I was feeling so terrible. I would have to say this was the quickest dental procedure that I've ever had done. It's not a race though, I'd rather it take a few minutes longer and not be in pain. read more

Orthodontist only works out of that office a couple times a month, so everyone is scheduled to see one doctor on the days she is scheduled-very long waiting times. Yes free parking-but the office is full of patients so you may or may not get a spot. We had an emergency situation with a broken expander in my child's mouth only advice we were given was to schedule an appointment for the next time the doctor would be at the office (a weeks time) and had to pay additional fee because this is not my primary dental provider. Would never recommend any family to use this provider. read more

The last straw was when went I went in for a filling color correction, and when I got there, having them inform me that they didn't have the right color, so I'd have to come back. Literally the worst part of the whole thing was them putting the local anesthetic into my gums. The actual procedure and recovery time were nothing and I chalk that up to the skills of the surgeon. I love Dr. Pawluk! I am a wuss - a big, fat wuss. I regress to a whiny 8-year-old when faced with any dental procedure. Dr. Pawluk allayed all my fears and had me in and out in under 20 minutes! I was grinning when I walked out of his office (well, as much as the Novocain would allow). Dr. Pawluk is the best (I have no foundation for this statement other than the fact that I cannot imagine a root canal going more smoothly or painlessly)! I cannot recommend him highly enough. I had a root canal performed here a few years ago and was told that I now have to get yet another root canal done on the exact same tooth which should not happen. Additionally, the receptionists in this office are not organized. It took me 4 days, 9 phone calls, and speaking with 4 different people to finally get medical records transferred. Two of the women said they couldn't find me in the system after one receptionist had already claimed she'd sent out the files. This place is a disaster. read more

Dr. Pawluk performed my first ever root canal. As you might expect, I was pretty nervous about the whole thing and had no idea what to expect. Overall, I would say that it was a fairly easy proceedure, much like getting a cavity filled. Dr. Pawluk was extremely helpful and made the process a breeze. During the proceedure, he stopped and asked me multiple times if I was doing okay, and he even stuck around after the proceedure to answer all of my questions. He's not the type to make a lot of small talk, but he knows what he's doing and gives you all the facts and info you need to feel informed and comfortable about the process. My only minor complaint would be that my appointment was scheduled for 4:15 and they didn't start the proceedure until almost 5! Apparently, they schedule quite a bit of time for the paperwork process even though it literally takes 5 minutes. Also, another added bonus -- there's free parking attached to the building! read more

WORST dentist/ortho I've ever been to. My initial consultation was in March with my appointment with the orthodontist. I did not get my braces on that day and they lost all of my information and the second time I went they made me wait an hour just to tell me they found my initial consultation. They gave me the wrong information on how much I had to pay. Everyone I talk to gives me a different answer. I gave them a primary and secondary insurance at the same time in (March) and it took them three months to get the secondary out. It is now July and I still don't have my braces on. read more

I have had nothing but disorganization and hassles from this place for years, first at their Archer office, then at their Fullerton office. They schedule appointments and then call to say the dentist or hygienist is not actually available; they shuffle you around time after time, then they scold you for delaying your appointments! I finally got off the HMO that forced me to go here...first of all, they lost my paperwork a couple times, couldn't get a needed treatment through (was denied, presumably due to their incompetence), they told me I was all good on the way out then over a year later I got a bill from a collection services for something they didn't even do. No one wants a root canal, but even worse than a root canal is a botched root canal. I've never had one, but after listening to some tales from my friends I realized I wasn't in the mood to mess around. Because my insurance sucks the only places I didn't have to pay up front all had terrible Yelp reviews and were rude to me on the phone when I called for an appointment. If the receptionist can't be at least cooly polite over the phone I doubt I want to choose you for my root canal! I chose Archer based on the yelp reviews of Dr. Pawluk. I have to say, he did a great job. I often need more shots to get numb, and he checked and gave me a second set of shots before he started drilling. So I was totally numb, but still a little stressed. I was very glad that he continually updated me with bits of information "there will be a lot of noise", "you're going to feel a lot of pressure now", etc. because, even though i wasn't in pain, it sounded bad and there was a lot of pressure. It was fast though, my appointment was at 6:30 and by 7:30 I was waiting for the bus home. I went into the dentist today for crown work and she said "wow! this might be the nicest looking root canal i've ever seen!" I highly recommend Dr. Pawluk - he was very professional and fast, he communicated, and he did a good job. read more

From soup to nuts ( Can you tell I'm on an all liquid diet ? ) -in other words from reception to surgeon, service is superb. I was quite nervous but Dr. Abughazaleh allayed all my fears by answering every question I had patiently and completely. Admministering anesthesia the staff was gentle. They reiterated again and again the procedure should be painless-And Lo and Behold it was. Sylvia of the front office staff displayed courtesy, caring ,and professionalism in assisting me with obtaining a payment plan. I was refered by another dentist Dr.Guzman because of a motorcycle accident,so i called for a appointment i explained why i was coming when i got there the front desk staff said they had made a mistake they somehow thought that it was a GROUPON for a cleaning instead ! So i made another appointment for the next day filled out all the insurance information i`m covered by 2 insurance companys so it would be seamless since i was in a lot of pain.The appointment was @ 3pm 45min later I`m told that i need $52 co-pay and i had to pay it today,i did not have my credit card but i did have personal check .....they refused to take my check..even though my Insurance was going to cover almost $1,000-1,500 in dental work AGAIN the reason i gave them all the insurance info the day before was to let me know of any payment ? I im going to charge Archer Dental a FEE $ 100 for wasting 2 days of my time,just like they have a jacked up policy of a 4 day notice if you cancel your appointment ! Went here to get my wisdom teeth out. One of my teeth had possible complications that Dr. Abughazaleh bypassed with no problem! The staff and surgeon were incredible nice and talked me through the whole process (which was a little scary). This office was efficient AND they were in my network! My husband had his wisdom teeth pulled by Dr. Abughazaleh. The waiting room is absolutely beautiful, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the surgeon was great. My husband only got local anesthetics but said he didn't feel anything; the removal was quick even though they were his bottom two teeth. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because we had to wait 40-60 minutes; but they were apologetic and were kind enough to do the extraction that day instead of scheduling a different day after the consultation. They are also open pretty late a couple nights a week, which is great--we didn't have to miss work to go. read more

I went in for a scheduled root canal with Dr. Bahrani. She is very nice and seemed knowledgable. I was given the numbing shots, which were brutally given to me. I felt like I was being stabbed in my mouth and her excuse was my muscles were tense. That freaked me out and I became very uneasy and she did nothing to change my mind. She started drilling and and I could still feel what she was doing and I jerked when she hit a very sensitive spot that I knocked the drill out of her hand, I'm sorry but it was extremely painful I thought I was going to pass out. She got really upset and threatend to stop the procedure. I guess at that point I should have had her stop and fought to have my money back as I paid cash. I stayed and tried to relax myself because I wanted to have the exposed root taken care and I had taken the day off for that procedure. They then scheduled me for another appointment, which I cancelled and never ever plan to go back there again. read more

While the doctors might do a good job the front desk staff is extremely unprofessional and rude, especially Annie. I had 2 implants done at this office so I had to made 5 trips. Annie could not have been ruder each and every time. This office came as a referral and I would NEVER refer them to anyone. This office follows unscrupulous business practices. They don't present an accurate total costs of service or inform you of the insurance policies they accept. They mislead you until after the service has been performed and then stick you with a bill twice as much as they originally claimed. Then they refuse to work with patients, instead sending intimidating letters from attorneys and threatening collections. I expect more from the medical community than acting like big business, especially in struggling economic times like these. read more

ZERO stars... (it forces me to select one). This is a DECEITFUL practice from a billing perspective. They gave me and my son quite the run around from the get-go. He needed Ortho for a single misaligned tooth. They told me 12 months of orthodontics at the most, and completed a payment plan with me with a down payment, which I agreed upon. When he was fully complete with his treatment in less than 12 months they told me I would have to pay the difference between what the insurance would pay for a full 24 months of service if I wanted his braces removed. When I talked to the doctor, and asked about this she said she would resubmit a claim so that we wouldn't have to pay the additional amount, if we could wait 2 months for the braces to be removed, and we agreed. 2 Months later we were scheduled for the removal, but they said they hadn't planned for it and needed to do a mold for the retainer, and he could come back in Oct for braces removal. We did that and they told me I would owe a balance of apx $600 (this after a payment totaling over $1600. I was ok with this as I thought my total out of pocket was to be apx $2000 (my DMHO is supposed to pay apx 60%, and they said total cost was $4K) - I am not going to haggle over a couple hundred. ONE HOUR before the appt on 10/21 they called and told me I would have to pay $1750 to have his braces removed today. I called back and they said since the insurance hadn't yet paid that I would have to pay before having them removed. I got my insurance agent on the line, and he assured both the Archer Dental rep and me that I am NOT liable for the additional amount they are requesting me to pay, and that essentially they were asking me to pay for 24 months of braces when he only has them for 11. They cancelled my appointment and told me they'd get back to me when the owner (Dr. Sharma) had time to review the case and discuss with the insurance company. I asked that they not keep my son in braces when it is medically unnecessary - and we could figure out the billing after the fact. The refused and said I had to pony up the $1750 even though that total amount according to the Cigna rep - was for 24 months of service which constitutes an over-billing. read more
