Today I went and got a tooth pulled by Dr. Commet at Vertex. I was so concerned about this because of a previous procedure I have had at Renovo (the previous owner of this office). I swear I almost called to cancel at least 10 times.
I had gone in for an emergency appointment to the Schaumburg Renovo previously and had the most horrific experience. I never try to complain about service unless it is warranted.
I felt like I was not respected or listened to at all during that procedure. I went into the appointment expecting to have one wisdom tooth pulled, two root canals, and the draining of an abscess. So, I was expecting an excruciating day, but I trusted Dr. Wong. He assured me that everything would be fine.
When I got to the office I was greeted very kindly. I thought that the staff was very friendly and I felt my nerves slip away. I let my guard down. This was a very experienced dental professional (Dr. Wong), who promised me that everything would run very smoothly.
I have never felt more taken advantage of in my life.
After so many numbing shots that I lost count, this man began working on my mouth. I felt nothing, as I was numbed by innumerous shots in my mouth. I cannot remember the name of the assistant on my case, but for some reason they began to bicker. I understand that coworkers may butt heads occasionally, or maybe even often, but this felt different. These "disagreements" felt more like a lovers quarrel. I am unaware if these two employees are involved, but they had at the very least made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable.
As the procedure continued, I began to cough on what felt to be like dust from the grinding down of my tooth. Dr. Wong instructed me that I needed to stop doing that. I apologized profusely as I was mortified that I couldn't handle this procedure. After a few times of this happening, he decided to take a break and go work on another patient.
I understood that there were other patients so maybe giving me a break was the right call. He was gone for a very long time, I did not find any comfort from his assistant at all either. I thought that maybe I had too much medication because I could have sworn I heard dogs barking.
I talked myself out of that because there is surely no way that there would be dogs in the dentist's office right?
After Dr. Wong came back, he finished my procedure. I got up and spoke w/him and the assistant. He told me that everything went perfect during the procedure and I was lucky that it went so well.
As I stood there and listened to him explain what had just happened, my eyes were uncontrollably watering. So much that I was just crying uncontrollably. Not sobbing, just tears running down w/out my control. I was in so much pain I didn't know what to do.
As Dr. Wong explained post op instructions I couldn't help but apologize over and over again for continuing to cry. I felt bad for being this way in front of him after he just helped me out SO MUCH. After post op directions, he showed me the door and that was it. I felt like I had been dismissed.
I later went to my local dentist in Herscher, Illinois. My dentist refused to put a crown on one of my teeth. For some reason, I still trusted Dr. Wong at this point. I was sure he worked miracles on my mouth and just took an aggressive approach, one that I agreed to and trusted. My current dentist explained that he did not want his name anywhere near what Dr. Wong did. He believed it was ethically wrong.
My experience at Vertex was the most amazing experience. Dr. Commet explained everything that was happening every step of the way. His assistant Audrey prepped me and answered all my questions.
I unfortunately learned some new information after my procedure today was done. I had x-rays done and was told by Dr. Commet that files were broken during my previous appointment with Dr Wong.
Dr. Wong never told me this, he told me that everything went according to plan. Again, I believed him. Why wouldn't I believe a doctor who took an oath to do no harm?
Not only was I treated w/respect at Vertex, but I also was apologized to for such a gross misuse of a dental license on behalf of Renovo Schaumburg. read more
