This was the worst dental experience of my life. I was given an antibiotic which I clearly told Dr. Olguin that I was allergic to. He continued to lie...told me he was not informed. Every hospital system in Chicago has my allergy to penicillin in their records. I asked him to contact my dentist, Nate Hoffman, but he refused. I had major implant surgery with Chicago Dental Studio and never had a problem with antibiotics. When I had a reaction to the antibiotic, I basically got the middle finger. I was referred by my dentist for a procedure. Dr. Ogluin was very nice and patient, considering I had some fear of the procedure. He called me later that night to check on me and make sure I was doing ok. If I am referred here again I would go back. My constructive critique is for some of the operations of the practice. 1. I was told I would receive a phone call 2 days prior to my appt to discuss the price, that did not happen. I wish they did because there were some homeopathic wound rinses they wanted me to use that I could've purchased from Amazon in advance for 2/3 the price. 2. They constantly text you with very extensive instructions of what to do the day of your appt. I had a 7:15 AM appt. The text states to text once you arrive and wait for them to tell you to come up. I arrived at 7:05AM and sent a text and waited. At 7:20AM I get a phone call asking me my ETA. I said what do you mean, I'm sitting downstairs. I texted you like the text says to do. She says, oh come up. When I get up there she says the receptionist doesn't start until 7:30 so we didn't see the text. So, why are you texting people those very specific directions? 3. The after care sheet needs more specifics, and they probably need different after care sheets for different procedures. When can I floss again? When can I brush with my electric toothbrush again? When can you use CPAP again? When can you wear your nightguard again? All that should be added to the sheet. I had to google other offices that had more in detailed instructions to get the answers. Overall, those are very fixable and most importantly, the practitioners are good. read more

Worst experience in past !! They lied about my treatment they charge me 990 $ on the spot which they never fixed it ,left me with lot of pain . To be clear, I have to say Dr. Flowers was professional and honest and this review is not regarding him as an endodontist. 5 stars to him. I came to the office for a consult for possible root amputation as my tooth with root canals had some problems. He recommended not to go through with surgery and I very much appreciated the honesty. However, I was charged $126.00 simply for the short assessment. I arrived with copies of previous xrays/CT scan so I had no scans performed at the office. The full standard fee they list for this evaluation was actually $231.00. This provider was in network and I was quite upset for that large of a fee without any prior notice. I had seen a different endodontist shortly before that was actually out of network and I had no such fees associated. For a fee that large for just walking in I would fully expect that to be relayed up front. It was hardly a 20min visit. If this provider is not in network for you, expect to see large out of pocket costs with no warning. read more

I have a fear of the dentist so I was clearly upset that I even had to be there. Dr. Flowers explained what was going to happen that was fine I have had a lot of dental work. I explained that I would probably be crying most of the time it's not something I can control. When he started to work I started to cry, his exact words " you are going to need to settle down, you know I have my staff staying late to work on you". Really I believe you have your staff staying late because you are getting paid by me and Cigna. The next thing to happen, I paid out of pocket for nitrous oxide, which I have had many times before. His staff started it prior to him coming into the room I asked her twice if it was on because I did feel it. When Dr. Flowers came in they had a conversation about the flow for the nitrous and I clearly heard him say "well that means it's empty" yet I never heard them change anything or felt any nitrous oxide. I asked him if it was on and he said "yes". If it was on, it was on so low I felt nothing. Then they had a dental dam in my mouth with no suction after a while there was so much saliva in my mouth I couldn't speak and felt like I was choking. I motion with my hand and tried to say suction. His aid put a stress ball in my hand I let the ball fall out of my hand and pointed to my mouth. Once again Dr. Flowers scolded me raising his voice saying " I wasn't going to treat his staff that way and that I was being disrespectful to his staff and that he wasn't going to stand for it". Never mind the fact couldn't speak and felt like I saw choking. Lastly, after he completed the root canal I asked him about the infection on the roof of my mouth which was swollen. If it would go away, what to do about it. he said, "eat something sharp it might pop". I'm assuming he meant it as a joke, however, neither I or my husband found it to be sound medical advice since that is after all that we were paying for and expected to receive. I have had a lot of bad experiences with the dentist, which is why I hate going. However, the sheer arrogance of Dr. Flowers was appalling. Informing me he went out of his way to schedule me, that his staff (one person) stayed late (6 PM) and he was going out of his way for me is ridiculous. It's your job if you don't want to do it don't. No, I would not recommend him because I would never want to be responsible for putting anyone in his chair to receive that kind of service. As far as his work is concerned, I can only assume the root canal was done correctly. I have had no pain since the work was completed. Unfortunately, COVID-19 happen shortly after the work was completed. I will most likely pay out of pocket to verify the work was done correctly because he never showed me enough respect for me to have any faith in his abilities. read more

Very nice dental specialists office! Came here for a gum grafting (for receding gums) and was very pleased with the care and service! Everyone is pleasant and really makes you feel comfortable. The office manager is such a strong component of this office. She sat down with me and talked about the timeline for each of the appointments and exactly what insurance would pay. She did such an amazing job in laying out everything that was needed and expected with the timeline. Technology here is advanced - you're able to confirm appointments via email/text. Came in for a my post op and was told I'd be in and out. Well, 5 minutes later, I was OUT! This office doesn't play, whatever expectations are set, they meet and exceed with no hesitation! First timers, you may be hesitant due to location and the parking situation. Let me put this to rest... Find street parking and get the Chicago Parking app on your phone, pay pursuant to the expected time they give you and if you need to extend, do so. Von every visit, I've parked right in front for no more than $4 per visit and I've only had to extend my time once during surgery. Went in for Gum Surgery yesterday with Dr. Graves. It went very well. Asked me the whole time if I felt any pain. Very patient and professional. Her Assistant is also a Gem! Answers all questions and gives that little bit of "Extra" that makes you feel comfortable, if that is even possible in a dentist's office. And if that is not enough Dr. Graves herself called me in the evening to see how I was doing. Who does that anymore? Highly recommend them for any Periodontal Work you may need done! read more

I visited Dr Flowers office upon a reccomendation from my dentist and I found out he was in my network and less expensive than my doctor for a root canal. I arrived at the doctor's office and the inital exam everything went well - and they reccomended I come back for the root canal. I talked with them to understand what my full payment would be to better understand the cost I would have to endure for the procedure and they assured me the exact cost. During the root canal they put a metal clamp around the tooth for the procedure which irritated my gums at the time a lot - but the numbing they used for the procedure helped and I figured it was normal. During the entire procedure Dr. Flowers was talking to his assistant about how their weekend was and I felt almost like he was ignoring the procedure and as if I was a third wheel in this operation - it was very strange. The entire procedure went like this. I double checked with them on the cost of everything and I paid my full portion of the payment. I come back 20 minutes later because the temporary crown he drilled through fell out - so I had to walk all the way back and miss work even longer because they didn't glue the temporary properly on. The next few days the pain in my gums is really bad and I go to my dentist who is surprised by how bad my gums look. I thought it was normal but he didn't think so and decided to move my procedure out a couple weeks to ensure my gums heal. He was surprised that the clamps Dr. Flowers used would cause so much damage. Meanwhile I am waking up every day in pain. I finally get the procedure finished with my dentist. Now all of a sudden a few months out I get a bill for roughly $200. I call them - and they explain that my insurance maxed out before they can get their invoices in and now I have to pay and there is nothing they can do. Of-course they can do something but they refused. I am never going to this doctor again. You damage my gums in the process and then send me a bill a few months later even though your billing team assured me I paid the full amount... so much for saving money by going here - if anything I paid the same amount as my doctor and had to go through agony for 2 weeks. This is my second experience with the office and both times they were the same only the second time I left without seeing the doctor. Note: Dr. Flowers is great at his craft maybe not so great at managing an office No.1 expect to wait at least a 30-40 mins after your scheduled time and during covid expect to be put out of the waiting room (which has no one is in) and into the hall with everyone else who was told to come up but when they got there the room wasn't ready No. 2 expect that if there was any coordination with your dentist (like sending x-rays) that it did not happen, even though when you scheduled the appointment all the information was given even down to the doctor referring and why - oh and expect them to want to take another set of x-rays even though you had a full set a few weeks earlier No.3 expect that you filled out the required registration (if you do not you get messages that they will turn you away) and expect that no one actually looked at the registration so expect to give the information again. No. 4 expect that there will be a lengthy conversation with you about payment and that your insurance company likely doesn't pay (shouldn't they know this up front, most doctors office that I go to do), then expect them to offer you a reduce price to pay upfront for the procedure even after you tell them you have spoken with the insurance company and that the procedure is covered. No 5. expect a snarky assistant to actually yell at you on your way out after you say you are not comfortable staying Having dental work is stressful and instead of it being a good experience it seems all about money and not patient care. Dr's should be paid there is no question but that seems the focus and patient care secondary. It's too bad because I have great insurance and had plenty of out of pocket expense from my last procedure with them which I happily paid. Looks like I will find another doctor to take my cat scan and my money. read more

I had a root canal this morning with Dr. Flowers and Marilyn. After hearing horror stories about root canals, I was a little nervous, but ready to be out of pain. The whole experience was great and I would highly recommend this practice. I appreciate that they went over the cost up front. I also appreciate that I felt absolutely nothing beyond the novocaine shots. They were efficient and thorough. Another reviewer mentioned the metal clamp around the tooth and the numerous x-rays as negatives. The clamp was attached to some rubbery material and kept all the rotting tooth gunk out of my mouth. My mouth is a little sore now (12 hours later), but not that bad considering. They took x-rays after cleaning out the tooth and then again after the procedure was done to ensure everything was fine. read more

I would give a negative stars if that was a choice. I rarely see the dentist. I only see the hygienist who is wonderful (thus the one star). I scheduled my daughters cleaning and they messed up her schedule and scheduled twice. Before I could get back to them they cancelled both appointments and the next available was 3 months later. So terrible front desk and not seeking the dentist very often, I will not return to SouthLoop dental.. There are plenty of options in the South Loop. This office continues to deteriorate and I will not return. Spend your money else where with one of the many options in the South Loop. This office continues to get worse and worse. Great experience! Going to the dentist or having dental procedures causes most (including me) some (or more than some) anxiety but South Loop Dental was professional and patient. The office was very clean and they followed COVID protocols very well, cleaning before and after everything. Angie, my dental hygienist,  was kind, had good energy, and answered all of my questions. Dr. Flowers was amazing - he immediately made me feel at ease by introducing himself, making eye contact, and explaining the procedure in full before even looking in my mouth. I didn't feel rushed or like I was asking too many questions with him and that was much appreciated. During the procedure, I was allowed to wear headphones to listen to a book/music to block out the sound and you are given a hand signal if you or they need something. I hope to not have to go back soon but if I do, at least I know it's a trusted place! read more

So I'm scared of dentists more than I'm scared of clowns (which is a lot). I had to get a (long overdue) root canal done and was referred to Dr. Jamal Flowers. Turns out he was in the same clinic as Dr. Olguin, who I had gum surgery with about 10 years ago and was very pleased. Dr. Flowers was the nicest and patient dentist I've met in a long time, and was not only technically proficient but explained things very well and left me with a clear understanding as to what's next in the dental plan for me. Everyone in the office was great. And I didn't have the typical panic attacks associated with dental work. Dental work sucks, but if you need to have a root canal or other dental procedures, I can't think of a better place with better professionals than South Loop Dental. read more

Dental surgery is never fun - but this place makes it as painless as possible. I had gum surgery wtih Dr. De'Avlin Olguin, and he was absolutely wonderful. He was super nice throughout the process - he was super patient and answered all my questions, and was thorough in giving me all the information I needed. He even called me on a Friday night and gave me his cell phone number in case I had any post-surgery issues or problems. I saw my regular dentist about 2 months after my gum surgery and she said Dr. Olguin did such a great job on my gums you can't tell I had surgery. The admin staff was also especially helpful - they were upfront about cost, both my responsibility and what insurance covers. They actually answer the phone when you call (instead of directing you to an automated menu, like every other doctor's office). I hardly had to wait for appointments. They remind you a ton before your appointment so there's no way you'll forget. All in all, a great experience and highly recommend this office. read more

I feel that the nurse and doctors care more about money than patients' best interest. 1) took unnecessary x-rays. I was referred to there to evaluate a tooth that has a temporary crown, whether it needs root canal. I already took two x-rays by my current dentist for that tooth, but once I got this place the nurse immediately wanted to take x-ray. She said i have to take one now, they don't have it in their system, i can make a call later to query the previous x-rays (what's the point?) and my previous dentist place clearly said they send it over and I don't need more x rays again, but the nurse just insist to do that and saying She'll give me plenty of time to check why it does not show in her computer later(no point to do that after you took new xrays!)... and saying I don't have to pay BECAUSE I already took x-rays (which turned out to be a lie, I saw they charged my insurance $50, just not out of my pocket). Expose to x-rays is always harmful so please only do it when necessary!! 2) the doctor did a couple of test, one test was that the pain from extreme cold on this tooth went away very slowly. So He said there was an inflammation and I have to do root canal. I asked is it possible that the inflammation may go away( this is a good tooth with small cavities but the dentist decide to make a crown for it) ? He said it will not, I have to do root canal or do tooth extraction. (The tooth extraction part is try to scare me that I really don't like!) so I said let me consider for a couple of days and did not do root canal and 4 days later the tooth healed and I got the permanent crown. It may still have problem in future and that's not my point here. read more

The fact I am typing this review only five hours after a root canal should say something for this dental office. Leslie and Dr. Flowers were fantastic. First, I am petrified of the dentist. Therefore, I only go when I feel like I am about to have pain in my mouth. I was referred to Dr. Flowers by my general dentist. I almost fell asleep during the root canal. I was referred to Dr Flowers do to my anxiety with dental procedures. I was all set for sedation for a root-canal then had the pre-procedure evaluation. After Dr Flowers explained every step of the procedure and showed me all instruments to be used, it was decided I would only use nitrous instead of complete sedation to calm me. The entire procedure went great and I had no anxiety or pain of any type. Dr Flowers has a wonderful bedside manner and shows he truly cares for his patients. He does excellent work. I always am scared to see the dentist, especially tooth extraction, till came to this place where is recommended by my friends. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I experienced an unbeatable toothache, then came to here. Dr. Flowers met me and explained why I have to extract tooth instead , he is very nice and polite. Then Dr. Olguin did the oral surgery for me, extracted my wisdom tooth and decayed tooth, and will do implant surgery after 4 months healing time. Dr. Olguin is very skilled and experienced, during my whole surgery, I did not feel any discomfort and pain. He always explained the details for me, and calmed down my concern. And followed up with me after the surgery. I will give him the score 100. This place gave me an excellent dental experience. I highly recommend this place. read more

Note: I did not end going here to get work done. I found out I needed a root canal, and looked to yelp for reviews. After gathering my list of prospects, I started calling a number of endodontists to request estimates. They all happily gave me an estimate after providing the tooth number and answering some questions (do you have insurance? no. has the tooth had a root canal before? no.). All the endodontists complied and gave me a price for the root canal.... Except for South Loop. I called and left a message (at 9:15 am) and someone called me back twenty minutes later. I told her my situation and answered her question about which tooth would need the root canal. She said they don't give estimates. After calling 10+ endodontists who all quickly provided an estimate over the phone, I was taken by surprise. After questioning this, she just said that root canals ranged from $800 - $1100. I'm not sure how the previous reviewer got a $500 root canal. Must be the post-insurance co-insurance price. Just thought I'd give people a heads up on their pricing. read more

I just received another bill for an additional amount of $190.. 2 Visits Wiped out all of the yearly dental allowance plus paying out Cash of almost $800.00 I would suggest that you contact Employee Dental. You can pay a lesser amount and still hold on to your allowed dental amount in case you're in need of having a filling (s) ... I find it a bit excessive to consume the entire dental allowance Plus pay almost $800 in Cash for 2 root canals. If you have cash to spare, come here.. their service is great! if you want to save, try Employee Dental. Dr. Chris Leonard is Amazing and you'll shell out around $450 for cash, photos etc. I was a bit disappointed of needing to pre-pay only to receive yet another bill recently for $190 Unfortunately, I will probably not return for my dental needs due to their excessive pricing. once again, the staff is great! read more

Note to self: When you have a root canal, and the Endodontist tells you to have your primary care dentist finish the procedure with a filling...listen! I didn't. I don't know why, really. Other than I really do not like going to the doctor, dentist...or any Health Care Professional for that matter. Call it white coat syndrome at the extreme! Anyway, after going nine ~ yes 9 ~ months after the original root canal, I had to have a retreatment. Dr. Flowers was very kind, not at all judgemental or terse. He kindly excepted my weak excuse and proceeded to tell me what we needed to do "now". He outlined the procedure, asked if I had any questions and then had his office manager share information about the cost. Note to the reviewer who wanted a fim quote, re: cost: A dentist, doctor, endodontist cannot give you a firm cost estimate because they don't know what the full extent of treatment will be until they actually see you, do an examination AND start the treatment. An estimate is the norm...or so I have learned from the many, many, many (unfortunately) dental treatments I have endured. At any rate, I had my retreatment today and it went quite well. Very, very little discomfort. Dr. Flowers was thorough and did a lot to put me at ease. We chatted while we waited for the medications to numb me, and he also explained what I would feel or smell with each step. This helped me understand the process and relax. I haven't been to a dentist since I was a kid, and I went here to get all four of my wisdom teeth extracted. I worked with Jessica to get my appointment scheduled, which was very easy and straight forward. They did a great job working around my schedule and I got in that week! As far as the appointment went, it was great from start to finish. I walked in after taking some pre-sedation medication, and didn't wait at all. Dr. Olguin was great at explaining the entire procedure, and made me feel very at ease with the process from our initial consultation, to even giving me a call after my surgery to see how I was doing. A couple days after the procedure, I am still a little sore, but healing well. The whole staff did a really great job, and Dr. Olguin is the best! read more

My childhood self would cringe at adult me reviewing dentists with this much enthusiasm. CRINGE. But seriously, childhood self, I promise they have earned it! Lets start out by saying that the work that I've had to have done [and am still in the process of getting done] are the things that nightmares are made of. I'd guess that, unfortunately, I've probably taken advantage of most of the expertise that South Loop Dental has to offer. Oy. That being said, who better to review these two fantastic doctors [and their equally amazing staff]?! I'll start with the office as a whole: very serene and comforting, has a nice relaxing feel to it and feels very modern without being stuffy. The women who work the front desk are a delight. Most of my interaction has been with Jessica who has put up with my frantic phone calls and emails regarding my countless procedures as though speaking to me is the best part of her day. Side note: I LOVE that they are so willing to communicate via email. For someone like me who is on the go a lot during the day, its really nice to be able to communicate with your dentist office via email about bills, procedures, dental plans, and other matters. Now onto the men of the hour: Dr. Flowers and Dr. Olguin. These men have helped me get through what easily could have been the worst couple months of my life dental-wise. The demeanor, friendliness, and professionalism of these two [not to mention how well they work together in a very clear partnership] cannot be praised enough. They have worked so well with my regular dentist and when one of my procedures resulted in a cracked tooth [not their fault, the tooth had been through a lot and didn't really have a fighting chance from the get-go], they were able to work with me to fix things both monetarily and with the actual tooth. I have walked out of their offices on more than one occasion shocked [in a good way] about how quick and painless they were able to execute different procedures that made my skin crawl when they were initially described to me. I am still in the process of finishing up some major work on my pesky tooth that just won't quit, but could not be happier to have the expertise of these two outstanding professionals get me through it. read more

Going into any Dentist office I am always nervous and a little afraid. I quickly found that there is no need to feel uneasy. The staff makes you feel comfortable and the doctors are AMAZING !!! Dr. Flowers explained everything to me step by step. I was so relaxed that during my root canal I was peacefully humming the relaxing music tune that was coming from the speakers inside of the office. Dr. Flowers and staff was so confident and easy going that I trusted them with whatever they needed to do. My only disappointment while in his care was finding out that Serena Williams lost her match at the U.S Open but Dr. Flowers gave me a good giggle by remarking "Lets blame it on Drake". Over the years I have had my fair share of dental work, so I know good work, Dr. Flowers is the best!! Zero pain, zero complications, thorough, precise, and thoughtful. Honestly, what more could you ask for? Oh yea a super nice staff and he's got that too. The only reason this place isn't ranked 5 stars across the board is because of one review (see below) of a guy who never went there and complained about not being given pricing over the phone. The pictures which I consider price Gauging hazing of their patients is pathetic. They NEVER EVER CALL TO Pre-authorize your dental insurance. I had an extremely deep filling which eventually lead to an infection which was evidently interfering with the nerve. This led to the most excruciating pain I had ever felt. I called Jamal's office on Friday morning at 9:30 for an emergency root canal and was in the dental chair before 11am. That is what I call service! Dr. Flowers was extremely thorough and to the point. I usually feel a bit of pain and discomfort when I've had previous work done. I did not, however, experience the slightest bit of discomfort with Dr. Flowers. The desk assistants are also super nice and accommodating. A+ experience through and through. I came to the office feeling like I was going to die and left feeling like a million bucks. Plus, his rates are about as good as you can find for root canals in the city. I had an appointment with Dr. Ashutosh Kaushik for a root canal and he was amazing! He had excellent chair side manners and was constantly concerned about my comfort during the whole procedure! His assistant was very reassuring as well and made it all a very comfortable experience! When I first went in I was a nervous wreck and had severe anxiety, but once I met the doctor I was completely at ease! It is always wonderful to feel that comfort with a doctor and know you will be taken care of! I had to make a last minute appointment before a trip I was taking. I was in a lot of pain and found out I needed a root canal. I obviously needed to get the root canal before I left for my trip, just so the pain that I was experiencing wouldn't ruin my whole trip! The pain was radiating on my left jaw and Dr Kaushik did a great job at identifying which tooth was causing the pain because at that point I couldn't tell! Strongly recommend him for a root canal (God forbid you need one!) He did my root canal in one sitting and I was out of pain! The office was great with giving me an appointment right away while completely understanding my pain. I had a follow up when I returned from my trip and everything went so smoothly! I am pain free, without being scarred with a visit to a dentist! I had the opportunity to meet the other doctors working there as well and they were really sweet as well! I just wanted to take a moment to compliment both Dr. Flowers and his office staff on making an emergency root canal into a painless experience (literally). From the ease of booking an appointment, to the friendly and efficient front office staff, to the pleasant and caring bedside manner of both Dr. Flowers and his hygienist--I was most impressed. Alright, so no one actually enjoy getting a root canal, or having gum surgery. That being said, my experiences here were great! I had to see both doctors, and both were fantastic. Actually, the entire staff was great. Chicago has this issue where front desk/admin staff at a lot of places are really rude. Not here!! Staff personalities aside, both doctors were attentive, sensitive to my pain and well-being, and very capable. If you need endodontic or periodontic work, I would HIGHLY recommend going here! read more

I've had issues with a tooth for the past couple weeks and was recommended to see Dr. Flowers. Dr. Flowers had the calmest and professional manner I believe I've ever encountered in a dental office. I saw someone else on YELP write that he had a bed side mannor -- I have to agree with that statement. He did a quick painless examination and said I needed a root canal. Fast forward a day later..and I'm back getting a root canal! The phrase "Need a root canal" is enough to send chills down most peoples back. I was a bit nervous going in expecting brutal pain, but boy was I surprised. Dr. Flowers gave me a couple shots and was super smooth the whole time. He has a calm voice and you can tell he is a perfectionist with his craft. The whole procedure took 45 min to an hour once the medication set in, and there was little pain. He kept me updated and checked on my pain/how I was doing every couple minutes. You could tell his #1 concern besides fixing my tooth, was my comfort level. I was originally referred to the South Loop Dental Specialists to have a consultation for possible root canal work to be done. I went to them because they are in my dental plan and was hoping that it wouldn't cost too much out of pocket. My situation was unique because due to extreme sensitivity I had to go under to get this work done. My first visit I noticed, as one reviewer said, that the office looked like a day spa and really is welcoming. All the staff at the office, from the front desk staff, dental hygienists to Dr. Flowers and Dr. Olguin were very personable and make you feel very welcome. After the initial meeting both doctors explained the process in depth and answer all the questions that I had. The day of the surgery, again, everyone was very friendly and got me ready for the procedure. Dr. Olguin was very calming and inserted the IV in a pretty painless way. Its the little things that make going to offices like this stick with you and one of those little things is bringing down the lights as I came to. The novocaine took several hours to go away and even when it did there was very little tenderness (and pain) so I never needed to take any aspirin to dull the pain. Dr. Flowers said he was going to call (which as of this writing he has yet to do so) but even if he didn't call to check up on me (which he says he does) I am completely satisfied with this office. They should take it as a compliment that I hope I never have to go back but if I ever need this kind of work done again I will definitely visit Dr. Flowers and Dr. Olguin again! read more
