Wisdom teeth- ugh!!…read more I have been putting off getting my wisdom teeth removed for about 2 years. I had 1 impacted and 2 pretty much broken though. They were causing me a ton of pain and discomfort. The dentist has always been a fear for me. I was referred to Dr. Koos and upon meeting him for my consult I was put at ease. He explained everything to me about the procedure and answered any questions I had. For some reason he really put me at ease and I trusted that I was in the best hands. This is saying a lot because I'm always so nervous about any medical procedure. I'm a bit of a nervous nelly and have a lot of anxiety and this was procedure was really causing me stress. He is extremely calming yet very professional. The days leading up to my surgery I was super nervous. BUT- once I got to the office everyone was super nice and I just accepted the fact the teeth were coming out! Ha! I was greeted by Dr.Koos' dental assistant(I asked her name but can't remember). She brought me back to a really nice room. She made me feel comfortable. She placed the laughing gas mask on me and started doing her thing. She even played Alina Baraz, my favorite artist! She asked if the music was ok, and would have let me put on anything I wanted to make me feel comfortable. So, if you have a favorite song, don't be afraid to ask! It's like she knew me and knew how to make me feel like everything was going to be ok. The mask seems scary at first but a few deep breaths and everything isn't so bad! I was so relaxed. It still felt a little scary so I took a few deeeep breaths in through the nose out through the nose just as they instructed. With every breath I felt better and more relaxed. It's like magic ! Next thing I know the Dr. comes in, gives me an IV with the anesthesia and I was out like a light. It was SO easy! I wake up, they bring me to a nice waiting area to let me get myself together(somewhat) haha! And then give my husband and I very through instructions and information on what to expect. The healing has been great and Dr. Koos called the night of to check on me. He even answered a few questions I had along the way. I am super impressed with the professionalism and knowledge with the Dr. Thanks so much Dr. Koos and the ORA team. You made an extremely terrifying experience as good as it could possibly be! Oh- and now 6 days later I'm pain free and healing wonderfully!!

I want to preface this review by stating that my husband and I did A LOT of research prior to…read moredeciding to go with ORA. I came into the clinic with a need for a dental implant after an external resorption that rendered my tooth essentially worthless. I came to see a surgeon at the clinic, who eventually put me under anesthesia in order to remove my teeth and do a bone graft and, eventually, an implant. After months, I came back for a follow-up, and it became quickly clear that the implant was being rejected. At the follow-up, I asked if there were reasons why this could be the case (a genuine and fair question when you're paying over $5,000 for a procedure out of your own pocket) and the surgeon was EXTREMELY defensive and rude. It was an incredibly odd situation, since I'm young, healthy, have great oral hygiene, have no familial dental issues, and less than 5% of implants actually fail. I left the appointment feeling really dismissed. Eventually, the office took out the implant (for free, which I appreciated!). I was again put under anesthesia for the procedure. The surgeon did not call me to follow-up on how I was feeling (despite doing that on every other procedure I'd had there). Nobody from the office called me. Eventually, I brushed off the situation and went to speak to, in total, 3 dental professionals (periodontist, dentist, and oral surgeon). All 3 of these professionals, after looking at the x-ray, said that it looked as though there was something in my gums that likely prevented the implant from being successful. Finally, the periodontist cut open my gum and took out a piece of unremoved tooth (a leftover from the tooth that had been previously removed by the ORA surgeon). The leftover tooth--which was about 1cm in size--was causing me bleeding, puss, and eventually cost me THOUSANDS of dollars in dental care (while I was a student). Eventually, I sent an email to ORA asking if we could discuss my experience. My email explained that as both an attorney and a child of medical professionals, I understand that accidents happen, but that it's important to sit with patients that have grievances in order to (1) understand what happened and (2) figure out how to compensate (not necessarily financially) the patient. I have never received a single phone call or email back from ORA in response to this email despite laying out (1) the immense financial burden of the situation given it predominantly happened while I was a student, (2) the pain caused from the leftover tooth, and (3) the additional dental expenses incurred in the aftermath of attempting to fix the issue. In my head, just having a conversation with me, explaining to me the possibilities of what happened, and apologizing would have been MORE than sufficient to make me feel better and cared for by these professionals. I feel extremely disappointed in this office, primarily because I loved the staff very much! I felt disregarded and did not at all feel cared for as a patient. Of course, this does not disregard all of the great reviews that people have left for ORA on this page. But I hope that it can provide some additional information regarding my experience!

This is the "Don't text your Ex" of Yelp reviews…read more I'd been meaning to find another dentist for a while, but life got in the way. At my last cleaning here there was a new dentist I'd never seen before. I mentioned to him that my teeth have shifted on top and bottom as I've gotten older (perfectly straight on the top 2 years ago, but now noticeably crooked) and asked what I could do to stop that. Dr. Daftary had alway tried to push Invisalign on me, but my husband had a truly terrible experience here with Invisalign so I did NOT want to start down that path. I specifically mentioned the shifting/crowding on my bottom teeth was pushing my top teeth out of alignment. He suggested a night guard and wrote me an order for it. I was told I could pick it up in two weeks. That's when the nightmare began. Long story short, this office lied to me, ran me around, wouldn't return my calls, kept telling me "one more week, one more week" until the day I said I wanted to cancel the order for the nightguard, and threatened to do a chargeback with my credit card, when SUDDENLY I got a call late in the afternoon, the same day they told me it would be another week, saying they had it for me at the office. It took two months from the time of order for me to get the night guard. I went to pick it up and it was for my top teeth only. I admit I was not really familiar with what a nightguard is, I assumed it was like a retainer you only wear at night. Of course, the dentist did not explain anything to me at the time. That's very typical for this office. How does this help my issue with all of teeth shifting? I told Dr. Daftary I was really unhappy with the lack of communication and patient care and really suspicious about how they suddenly got the nightguard the day I said I wanted to cancel it, after telling me earlier that day it would be another week or so. She talked around in circles in her usual fashion so I just took it and left, telling her I was done with her practice. Now I've had this nightguard for less than a month. I discovered after using it for a few days that it's actually two layers, a soft inner layer and a harder outer layer. This type of nightguard is usually prescribed for people who grind their teeth at night, which I do not. It's also the most expensive type. Aha! After putting this thing in and out of my mouth for about three weeks now, the walls of the soft inner layer have folded down and stuck to each other, making scratchy lumps that scrape against my gums when I put it in. I can't wear it without the inner layer because it's too loose on my teeth. I contacted Art of Modern Dentistry about this through their website and of course, got no response. I know from past experience they don't return phone calls, so now what? I paid almost $800 for this thing (after insurance) and it's clearly a cheap piece of $hit. I'm sure that has something to do with how they magically got it in hand in mere hours after I waited for two months. Since I can't wear my useless nightguard anyway, I have since gone to a much better dentist in the area for an Invisalign consult with a retainer afterward and I will be staying with them for all of my future dentistry needs. It was 100% better at this new dentist in every way, right from my first visit. My only consolation for having wasted another several hundred dollars at Art of Modern Dentistry is that I won't ever have to go there again. AND YOU SHOULD NOT EITHER!

I came here from out of town as an emergency client because I began suffering from dental infection…read moresymptoms on the plane. I was desperate, sick and scared. I made my appointment for 9:30 and didn't get into a chair until 10:45!!! I am so glad I had a 2nd appointment booked for that day because after x-rays, I was handed the most doomsday scenario from Dr. Dalfrey. Who went on and on about how my bridge had failed and I needed implants and all this costly dental work that in no lifetime I would be able to pay for. A realistic dentist would have said: "Look, you need a lot of work to resolve this but you are only in town 2 weeks. Let's put you on antibiotics and tide you over until you can see your own dentist." There is no way I would have been able to have implants and crowns in a 2-week turnaround with factoring in healing time and a course of antibiotics! They even tried to sit me in the financial office to sign me up for a new line of credit to begin their $11,000 treatment plan. I was so panicked and scared, I could barely speak! The dentist even mentioned to me how she fell in love with Chicago because NY people were pretentious. Look, entitled to your opinion but no part of my diagnosis needed to hear that. Fortunately my girlfriend pulled me out of that dangerous situation and we went to my 2nd opinion local clinic dentist who gave me an entirely different and less doomsday scenario. She said she couldn't do anything restorative in my time frame and any dentist who offered to attempt it was a quack. The dentist at Modern Arts was condescending, paid no attention to me being in near tears, told me my bridge days were over (I had only gotten it 7 months ago) and that the ONLY correct treatment plan was several extractions and implants. Avoid chain dentists and their fancy offices. Get a 2nd opinion. Looking at similar reviews for this place, I can see that my harrowing experience is not unique to this place. I understand dentists need to make money and for all I know (vulnerable, desperate, uninformed), Dr. D's prognosis was perfectly accurate. I cannot say. But very few people are walking around these days with even $1,000 of emergency funds, let alone $11,000! The scare tactics were unnecessary and what drove me away. Honesty and transparency is fine. Frightening people is not.

I reached out online and told them how much pain I was in. They took my pain seriously, emailed me back quickly, and booked an appointment for me with short notice. I was embarrassed because I knew my teeth were in bad shape. But everyone I talked to from beginning to end was so warm and friendly that I felt comfortable right away. After Dr. Schoening examined my teeth, I was referred to an oral surgeon (who was also excellent) to deal with some teeth that couldn't be saved. And Dr. Schoening came up with a plan to get my other teeth in good shape. I had a deep cleaning, which must have been a real chore for Dr. Schoening with how bad my teeth were. But Dr. Schoening never made me feel ashamed. He made sure I was physically comfortable as he worked, and he did an excellent job on my teeth. I'm so relieved to have found such an excellent dentist, and the entire team is incredible. My teeth feel and look a lot better. I've got my next appointment scheduled in 3 months, and I plan on coming back again and again. Also, the views from the dentist chairs are fantastic!
