This place is a total scam. I am shocked this place is in business.
I made an appointment to get my teeth cleaned. The hygienist took x-rays and then showed me five tiny specs on my x-ray that were supposed to be plaque below the gum line and said I needed a "deep cleaning". I listened to her explanation and was skeptical as I've always been told my teeth are fine and I've never needed dental work before. At the end of her sales pitch, I said would need to research the procedure more. 10 minutes later, while I'm waiting for my teeth cleaning, she came back in the room with a piece of paper explaining the bill was ~$750 for the deep cleaning over 3 treatments because insurance wouldn't cover it. She asked me to sign the paper stating that I understood the estimate yet, at the bottom of the paper, was the statement that I am giving authorization for the procedure. I'm so confused that she continues to push the procedure and I told her I didn't feel comfortable signing it. She left the room. Another 10 minutes goes by. This time she comes in with the dentist. The dentist checks my teeth, explains my teeth look good, I have no cavities, but I'm showing signs of periodontal disease and I need a deep cleaning. I said again I would research it and think about it. Dentist then says "Okay, we're done!" I'm confused. I say, "Wait, I haven't gotten my teeth cleaned? You've only taken x-rays. I made an appointment to get my teeth cleaned." And the dentist explains that the cleaning they want to do is a deep cleaning and I am refusing treatment, so that's all they can do. I was stunned, I took a second to consider reasoning with them, but the situation was way too awkward and I had lost all trust in this place. I turned and walked out. Next day, I managed to snag an appointment at my old dentist (different neighborhood). I went in, explained what the other dentist told me and the new dentist told me I showed no signs of periodontal disease. I told him about the specs this dentist showed me on the x-rays. Hilariously, at one point, the new dentist, the new hygienist and I are all squinting at the x-rays trying to see the specs! The hygienist said "Well maybe? Maybe I can see one? But that's certainly doesn't warrant a deep cleaning!" The new dentist also explained "Yes, they gave you a $750 bill because it was an unnecessary procedure and your insurance would have refused to pay." The new dentist also said "Aren't you getting braces next week? Did your ortho think you had periodontal disease?" Great point! So I called the ortho to ask and the ortho pulled my dental records and said "You're teeth are fine. You don't need a deep cleaning. Who told you you needed a deep cleaning?" It's insane to me that I can go to a dentist for a cleaning, get hardly any service, not get my teeth cleaned at all and a dentist can still bill my insurance as if they performed a service? I feel sad for anyone that goes to this dentist and goes through what I went through. :( :( :( read more
