It has taken me quite some time to reflect upon this before writing a review. The Chicago Dental Studio is a decent facility overall, but I could never in good conscience recommend seeking dental care here due to Dr. Bosworth. The first issue that occurred is when I had a dental procedure performed. After injecting lidocaine, it took some time for Dr. Bosworth to come back and check on me. During the beginning of the procedure, he left the room to see other patients and didn't return for almost an hour. At that point, the local anesthesia had worn off and I had to undergo another unnecessary painful injection. It is quite obvious that Dr. Bosworth was juggling multiple patients at one time. This seems to be to maximize profit rather than actually focusing on providing quality care to each individual at a time. This was a scheduled appointment and it is never acceptable for a patient to have a needle stuck in their mouth, and then be essentially ignored for an hour, and then have to be stuck again just due to the wait. The second and much more concerning issue was regarding a crown that was placed. I had a root canal performed years before. Dr. Bosworth placed a crown over this area. Several month's later, I started having pain. When I saw Dr. Bosworth, he assured me that could not be the case since I should have no sensation in the area with the nerve already removed. I mentioned this several additional times and each time Dr. Bosworth wrote me off and ignored my concerns. I came to find out that there may sometimes be accessory nerves that may remain after a root canal and could absolutely continue to cause pain. I mentioned this to Dr. Bosworth yet again and he essentially told me that this was not the case and that my pain was from something else. Fast forward to a year later and I saw a different dentist as the pain was getting worse. They performed imaging and confirmed I had an accessory nerve in place that was indeed infected. The infection was too significant and had been occurring for so long that they would not be able to drill through the crown and tooth to treat the infection. I ended up having to spend thousands of dollars and go through several painful procedures to have the tooth extracted, then months later have a post placed, and then ultimately have another crown placed. I was informed by my new care team that this all could have been avoided if the accessory nerve infection was treated initially. This is despite me laying out the exact diagnosis for Dr. Bosworth. It is concerning that he lacks this medical knowledge despite his training, and even more concerning that this is the case after his patient had handed him the exact diagnosis. The pain and cost that I sustained due to Dr. Bosoworth's negligence is something I will always regret. I should have never gone to this dentist. I can't change what happened, but I would like to warn anyone thinking of seeking dental care here. read more

I am writing this to warn others about the aggressive, predatory sales tactics used at this practice. A few years ago, I came in for a routine teeth cleaning and to address a crown. After my cleaning, a dentist I had never even met rushed into the room. Without spending much time evaluating me, they claimed I had multiple cavities and insisted I needed an immediate operation on the tooth opposite of my crown just to 'ensure everything balanced out.' They tried to charge me an outrageous $3,500 out-of-pocket, as insurance would only cover a small portion. Feeling pressured and uncomfortable with the rushed diagnosis, I decided to wait and went back to my trusted hometown dentist in Missouri who originally performed my crown. They thoroughly examined me and confirmed I had exactly ZERO cavities. They fixed my crown on the spot for free. Please be incredibly careful coming here. Get a second opinion before committing to thousands of dollars in rushed, unnecessary dental procedures. Please stay away from this office! I called the office in August about a bump on my jaw it was a bit painful and I wasn't sure what it was so I called the dentist to see if they should do X-rays. They said I need to go to urgent care for that. I go to urgent care, they find nothing wrong, I go to my primary doctor they find nothing wrong. Months later it is still there, I have a routine cleaning. They tell me I need a root canal and the bump is from a root canal. They went ahead and quoted me thousands of dollars and made an appt for me with the endodontist for this to happen. I thought this was strange, so I wanted to go see an endodontist somewhere else to get a second option. So I head over to aspen dental, the endodontist took X-rays and a quick check, and said nothing is wrong but it looks like you have an overdue filling that caused your gums to swell. Chicago dental was going to preform a completely unnecessary procedure on me. I told them there is a filling I need done, they saw the images and filled it. I'm not sure if it's a money scan or truly a lack of knowledge. They cost me thousands of dollars telling me in the first place the bump I had was nothing they could deal with when in reality it was just an overdue filling. This is an update to my previous reviews of Dr. Nate Hoffman and his practice, which, as far as I'm concerned, is the only game in town. Not only do I have the smile of a weather anchor at 61 yrs. (old college injury that caught up with me), but Nate is always thinking of ways to add value for his patients. His staff, first of all, are crazy good and his offices all have the very latest technology. He recommends that all of his patients wear retainers because teeth do shift, and the last time I went in, he had negotiated a special deal with his vendor so that I get a brand new retainer delivered right to his office for one flat price every year. I have been coming here to CDS for a little over a year and nothing major with my dental but of course, you have to maintain the teeth you have not only on brushing and flossing but finding a good hygienist (Gloria). Gloria has been doing a fantastic job educating and cleaning my teeth. My mouth feels very good after I come here to CDS three times a year. Highly recommend Gloria @ CDS. Had an absolutely horrible experience with Hoffman. If I could've sued him to get my money back I would've. I originally came to him for Invisalign knowing I would eventually have to get veneers. My teeth were edge to edge and needed some 24 teeth redone. It was a big overhaul. But I had come to him because of his reviews regarding Invisalign. He convinced me to do my veneers with him. He talked a big game, "I'm going to make your teeth look like they grew out naturally." Confidence was through the roof but little did I know he didn't have the talent to match. I expressed, in detail, what I wanted. I couldn't have made it more clear to him what I wanted my teeth to look like. With that much money on the table I'm not screwing around in terms of communication. I specifically said, "I don't want white, big, Willy Wonka, chiclet looking teeth. I want something natural, that blends in with my face and that no one will notice." We went through pictures. I reiterated it over and over. He assured me he's "one of the best in the country", numerous times, he's an "artist", at least a half dozen times through this process, and kept telling me and my wife to "trust" him at least a dozen times. In the end he delivered exactly what I told him I didn't want. And he did not apply a single note I gave him through the temp process. Sadly, my wife was also going through the process with him at the same time, not as extensive as my case. He kept saying, "give it time, it was a big case, the color will settle." Nope. It's garbage. We both hated it. My wife has redone her teeth with an actual prosthodontist since and they look so natural. What she had asked for. That guy is a real artist and probably one of the best in the country yet possesses the humility to never say it. And he constantly put his ceramist on a pedestal, unlike Hoffman who never spoke of his ceramist. The kicker is, when the prosthodontist looked at Hoffman's work he noticed that both our set of veneers were 'canted', meaning Hoffman put them in crooked. When I confronted Hoffman about it he very arrogantly responded with, "well you asked for imperfections." Imperfections are what you build into the veneer with your ceramist; color, ridges, translucence, etc. He made a lot of money off of us. We both walked away feeling cheated. My teeth look so fake and ugly. Bright white and something out of some absurdist comedy. Don't go to Hoffman. Or CDS. It's the equivalent of fast fashion for teeth. He talked a big game but delivered cheap, bulky, opaque veneers when he assured me there would be translucency, none, and naturally custom teeth, factory garbage. I have to get the whole thing redone. Hoffman is why dentists and professionals, who actually focus on the end product and detail to give you the look you're looking for, get a bad name. He did what he wanted. He didn't listen. He lacks humility. He's incredibly insecure and defensive. The numerous dentists, prosthodontists, periodontists and orthodontists we met and explained our situation to expressed that if he is a dentist worth his weight in salt he would cover his costs and refund a percentage of what you paid him. He refused. Not a penny. He completely dismissed my wife's experience and instead offered to redo all 24 of my teeth at his cost. That should tell you everything. Do you really think I would go through that process with this guy again? Absolutely not. I'd pay for the whole thing again than have him put his hands in my mouth. I recommend you steer clear. In the end I should've clocked all the red flags and bounced out of there but his confidence and my lack of knowledge, yet desire to give him the benefit of the doubt, kept me curious to see the outcome. I gave him too many notes during the temp process for him to screw it up this badly. I've had plenty of time after this miserable process to research, talk to professionals and see countless cases to know what's good and what's bad and who has a right to call themselves "the best" and I can assure you Hoffman comes in below average. Yes, everything is relative but after when you lose as much money as we did, you make it a point to understand the minutiae. When I get my teeth redone I will provide a picture for all to see. My husband has been trying to get ahold of the office manager for months. He had a botched wisdom tooth surgery which landed him in the hospital for 4 days. He got a horrible infection because the area was not cleaned properly according to the hospitals surgeon and he was not prescribed antibiotics until the infection had gotten out of hand. His infection was so bad they had to make two incisions into his neck and install drains his airway was the size of a penny. Would love to at least speak to someone in the office, seems like the team has been out on retreats for weeks.. when we arrived to the studio for the surgery I asked what my husband should or should not eat after the surgery, and we were told to google it. There is SO MUCH GOOD to be said about the Chicago Dental STUDIO. But before I start, I must say that my husband spent 4 hrs searching for THE BEST Dental Studio and it's safe to say that the Chicago Dental Studio met & far exceeded every expectation we had based just off research. After my experience at the Chicago Dental Studio, I am no longer afraid of the dentist and I'm only sticking to this company!!!! Chicago Dental Studio excelled at all the areas I find important when it comes to a dental experience: Cleanliness, Communication (the staff explained what was happening BEFORE it happened, they answered every question, and gave print outs of procedure and payments), the staff was kind and genuine.. oh and did I mention CLEAN?!?! I just had 3 teeth pulled by Dr. Carroll is efficient, swift, and professional as well! I highly highly recommend him! I appreciated that Dr. Carroll explained the "why's" and "how's" thoroughly. He too was very patient and genuine! I'm beyond grateful for the experience I had here! I can never see myself going to any other Dental Studio! Side note: I have had some rather unfortunate experiences at other dentists, which is why I always avoid them - but after this trip.... I don't usually leave reviews but I feel like other people should be aware of what's going on here. I'm giving 2 stars because I felt like the hygienist was very thorough, gentle and professional. The dentist, however, came in and told me I need 4 fillings replaced, I need to get Invisalign to somehow help me stop grinding my teeth, and I should consider jaw botox and gum surgery. After going back to my family dentist for a second opinion since this seemed fishy, I learned that none of this is true and I don't even have 4 fillings! As others have said, I'm not sure if this is incompetence or fraud, but I would recommend going somewhere else that won't give you false information or charge you $500 for a routine cleaning!! read more

I really like them. They're nice and their insulated water bottles are great. My teeth always feel clean. It never feels like they're just poking your gums to make you bleed. The dental hygienist also answers all my questions. My favorite part is when they show your teeth on the big screen and talk you through your options. The music isn't bad, it's all in the same genre as Kygo- Here for you. I really appreciate their hours of 8am - 8pm. read more

I recently moved to Chicago and was looking for a cleaning and a place to establish care, I had a great experience at Chicago Dental studio. I, I like many others, get a little nervous going to the dentist and I had a very smooth experience. Their office is beautiful, had great music which was a good distraction. My hygienist Ellie was so gentle and walked me through everything. Dr Bosworth was very nice and through, showing and explaining all my films. Worst experience I've had at a dentist. I went to get my wisdom teeth taken out here. The consultation dentist told me my teeth were straight and that the extraction would be straight forward. Once I got to the front desk to schedule an appointment the receptionist pulled up my information and said for my case it would be best to get anesthesia. This contradicted what the dentist just told me, but I said okay. She then proceeded to give me the pricing. Without anesthesia the procedure would be free, and with it it was on the order of $150 (I don't remember the exact cost). I was happy with the price; I was expecting to pay a lot more to get all four wisdom teeth removed. My wife is an anesthesiologist, and I have a good friend who is a dentist. I consulted with both of them and they told me to get the local anesthetic. On the day of the surgery, I went to check-in with the receptionist and let her know that I was opting to use local anesthetic. Her first response was, "You can't do that [change your mind]." Another receptionist overheard and said, "Yes, he can." The first receptionist then proceeded to tell me my wife had to leave; she was required to be there if I was getting anesthesia. The reason I was given was COVID protocol, but it felt punitive and disrespectful in the moment. After my wife left, they gave me an updated price that was more than the free plus $150 (+-) price I was given at my consultation. I inquired about the difference in price, and I was told my insurance was entered in incorrectly. My expectation for the operation was that I'd be paying on the order of $1000. The new price was still relatively low based off my expectation, but with the price update I still felt scammed. I didn't argue with them, because they were about to perform surgery on my mouth - I just said okay with a smile (I got this procedure during the summer and I'm now just writing the review in case I needed help if complications occurred; after my experience I wasn't sure if they'd be retaliatory). They have an oral surgeon that comes in once a month. His pace was hasty, he didn't introduce himself, he didn't talk to me after the procedure, and he didn't provide any ad-libs during the procedure (e.g., you're going to feel a pinch, I have one more tooth to go, etc.). After the procedure was over the dental assistant quickly went over the post-op instructions. I had to slow her down and ask her to repeat things so I could write it down. I was unable to talk so I was communicating with her via Apple Notes. When somebodies mouth has four holes leaking blood, that is not the time to gloss over care instructions. During the talk with the dental assistant, she informed me that I was not given any stitches that my gums were left open to heal naturally. I didn't have any preconceived notions about getting/not getting stitches. If she didn't bring it up I wouldn't have known anything with respect to stitches was done intentionally. But since she brought it up, I typed to her, "What's the difference?". Her response was, "The doctor has [n] years of experience and he decided based off of his experience that was the best thing to do." I finally get the receptionist to check out and pay. They changed the price a third time, this time it was free. They said the doctor put in some different codes. I didn't ask for this or put up any fight, only my initial question was asked earlier; I was prepared to pay. The dental assistance was supposed to be getting my prescriptions ready while I was checking out. She never came and I had to ask the front receptionist to follow up. I'm not able to physically talk so I'm having to make noises and point at my phone. Knowing my situation, they should have been initiating communication. A second dental assistant eventually came out with the prescriptions. At this time, I asked when I was supposed to change my gauze. This prompted her to ask me if I needed extra gauze to take home. From speaking with others about their wisdom teeth removal it is common practice to provide gauze to take home. read more

Giving this two stars for the ambiance and the music. Every time I walked out of this office I felt ripped off. Be prepared to be hustled for more money and often times lied to. Went to get a cavity filled and halfway through they told me they started drilling into another tooth to be "preventative", it was too late for me to say no because they started drilling and THEN asked. After 4 grueling visits it was brought to my attention that they were billing me for periodontics treatments. I was 25 years old. The staff was also often times rude And stand offish. I was numbed one time and the woman shoved the needle too far and I was in agonizing pain at the injection shot for days, when I called to provide feedback, they asked me if I would rather not have numbing next time... Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to go that will cost you less money. read more

This was my first dental visit since living moving to Chicago and they made "going to the dentist" as enjoyable as it could be! As I just moved to Chicago I had not established a dentist but when a filling broke I needed to find someone quick. I began looking on Yelp, sent out a few messages to various dentists and they responded immediately. They worked with my schedule and got me in for a Saturday appointment. They also listened to me when I shared that I needed the filling replaced, and did not try and immediately up sell me on other services. This was appreciated. When you arrive they are very modern with an iPad to collect your information. The receptionist / office manager was very welcoming but also knowledgeable. Even though there were other patients, there was not a long wait and the service was very prompt. The hygienist was friendly, professional and thorough. Overall the staff was fantastic, very personable, engaging and made you feel right at home. The facility is very clean and very modern with a 3D imaging machine that shows you a full, in depth, view of your teeth, jaw and also nasal cavity to check for infection. The exam also includes a cancer screening. Once the filling was completed they were very accommodating to get me in for a cleaning the same day. When I returned I inquired about a deep cleaning and was advised that there was no need at this time which I appreciated because most dentists are just trying to get as much insurance money as they can per year. The doctor was very personable, knowledgeable and also explained everything they were doing and why. Overall it was a great experience and I am happy to have found a go to dentist in my new home! read more

This place has been a nightmare and today took the cake. I had a root canal and crown done on my tooth and it has been the worst dental experience of my life. I thought I could handle this calmly and cool today....until the receptionist called me rude on the phone for telling her repeatedly that I spoke to the dentist on call, and was told I could make an appointment for after work since this was an emergency. This place took my money, made a pain in my mouth where there wasn't one before, were rude, and now I'm facing the possibility of a tooth extraction and possibly having to pay a ton of money for a dental implant of a tooth that was somehow stronger and felt better with a cavity. Do not go here. Go anywhere but here. I beg you, if you go here you will regret it for the rest of your life...or at least for as long as you have teeth. read more

Starting with great communication and reminder for my appointments. Their office is always pristine condition also. They have extra precautions now with COVID also that makes you feel confident they are doing the right practices to keep up safe. They do a great job of explaining your options and treatment plans while also being very courteous and empathetic. The dental assistants, hygienist, dentist are great. I absolutely love this dentist. I have to admit I was a little nervous since it was my first dr appointment since COVID-19. I was greeted by two lovely gals at the front, dousing all the employees in hand sanitizer and masked up. Rufus du sol played at a louder than normal volume, and I knew this was the place for me. The hygienist did an awesome job, she was quick and thorough, but didn't talk to me TOO much. It's always a struggle when a hygienist is chatty because you literally can't respond. But you don't want to be rude, so it's just awkward. The dentist was a funny, young hot dude (what more could you ask for in a dentist?) that told me to floss more and didn't try to oversell me on fixing my teeth. (Something that has happened with various dentists in the past.) They also clearly had the cutting edge technology for X-rays. Felt a bit futuristic in there but in a nice calming way. I was nervous to go to the dentist during Covid but they take great measures to protect the staff and the patients. They were able to verify that my insurance is accepted and everything was easy after that. I brought my entire family including my 4 yrs girl for check-up and can't be more happier with the care we received. Due to certain medical conditions, I have very sensitive and breeding gums and the dentist hygienist went above and beyond to clean my teeth with extra care. After the cleaning, the doctor and hygienist developed a care plan over the next 6 months to help follow up my teeth condition. The staff and environment are super friendly and my daughter successfully have her teeth checked up and cleaned. Had a great first time experience with the CDS dental team. Their very friendly and take their time with each individual patient. The office quarters are very well cleaned and it smells so good, considering the diffusers throughout the office. I don't often leave reviews but I believe this is important. I'm a medical student here in Chicago and I was in need of a general dental cleaning. I have my regular dentist back home and I go regularly (every 6 months). I thought I would stop in here for a quick cleaning and check-up to stay on track. The cleaning was fine, but the dentist claimed that I had 2 areas of tooth decay in need of fillings and 2 other areas to watch. I ended up getting the X-rays they took at The Chicago Dental Studio and I sent them to a family friend who is a periodontist and my regular dentist for a second opinion. Both doctors agreed that there was NO tooth decay on the films. I am not sure whether it is incompetence or fraudulence that is driving this practice but either way, I would recommend you look elsewhere for your dental needs. This studio changed my perspective on going to the dentist. I've always hated going because I'd end up in pain and uncomfortable. After way too many years of skipping the dentist as an adult, my teeth became too bad to ignore. A friend recommended me to Chicago Dental Studio and I am so grateful for everything they've done for my teeth. After one deep cleaning (several hours later, but worth every minute), my teeth actually look clean and presentable for the first time in years. The dentist and hygienist treated me with compassion and were very gentle. We set up a plan to get my teeth to where they need to be. I cannot wait to see what we are able to accomplish after 3 months, 6 months, and a year. Worth every penny. read more

Billing was problematic for me Due to COVID, I was looking to switch to a new dentist closer to me. Little did I know they wanted me to prepay $300 out of pocket (even though it is fully covered by my insurance), for a hygiene visit and other items for a first time patient! They said they would refund me when they received reimbursement from insurance but this still didn't feel right to me. When is the last time you prepaid for a hygiene visit when your insurance covers it? This made me cancel my appt... even though it threw a wrench in my schedule before going out of town. As context... I set an appointment; the day before the appt in the afternoon, I got a call from the office to provide my insurance info. I provided all the info and she let me know she would call me if they needed anything else. In the morning of the appointment, they claimed that because their billing function was "unavailable" (in the mid afternoon...) to process my insurance yesterday, I would need to prepay for a hygiene visit! Essentially all other practices can verify insurance at the time of walk-in. Silly and there's a breakdown somewhere in their billing function. Wouldn't trust them to bill me in general esp bc dentistry billing tends to range greatly (despite what you hear, there is discretion "CDT" code submission) and will be going elsewhere. read more
