I don't write reviews for anything other than restaurants and bars but in this case, wanted to share my experience with you all. I had been going to Chicago Smiles to see Dr. Santucci on and off for years (depending if they were in network). If this was just Dr. Santucci, would be 5 stars but this poor review is for their new staff. Disclaimer - I was good at coming every 6 months to get my cleaning and everything was always fine. Imagine my surprise when I came in for my regular check in and was asked if I didn't mind sending Dr. Kevin who joined the practice. He immediately said looking at my x-rays that I had a cavity in one of my wisdom teeth, and I needed to make a decision about it in "a matter of weeks." I was confused because all my previous visits were fine and now, all of a sudden, it was so dire that I had weeks to decide. Since it's a wisdom tooth, I said - why not just take it out? Dr. Kevin's response was that it would cause problems with my top wisdom tooth growing into that space. Then I said - take them both out then, they're wisdom teeth. And his response was - oh, you'll lose chewing capabilities. First of all, most people get rid of their wisdom teeth so I don't see the problem. His preferred option was for me to put a crown on it. A wisdom tooth. So because I do healthcare consulting, I asked two dental directors at two different national dental plans to take a look at my x-rays and give me their opinion. One dental director laughed and said I was being taken for a ride. The other said I needed to find a new dentist. Well, I found a new dentist but I wanted to give others the heads up on this potential crown overutilization that almost got foisted on me. read more

I started going to Chicago Smiles after a bad experience elsewhere From Angel (the Front Desk Office staff to the hygienist) you can bet on getting great customer service from the moment your appointment is scheduled to completion of the appointment. I had an appointment last week and I saw Britta (Hygienist) and Dr. Kevin Faist (dentist). I'm going to start with Britta she understood my sensitivities and explained her process every step of the way. I have sore gums and I appreciated her checking up on me asking if I was doing ok. Then Dr. Faist came in as the protocol is for this office to make sure everything went well and to see if there are any underlining issues. But here's the thing this doctor never seen me prior to this visit but I could tell he read my chart, I could tell he knew my history and my recent issues I was blown away. I appreciate good customer service and Chicago Smiles is a leader in the game. I loved my previous dentist and was hesitant to switch. After my other dentist went out of my insurance network I went to Chicago Smiles. I can't say enough good things about this doctor or his staff. He's the only dentist I would trust now. In my first visit, he told me that I would need a crown on my back tooth. I thought he was trying to con me because I'd been to a couple of different dentists for other issues in the past couple years and none had mentioned that before. I got three other opinions of very trusted doctors. All other opinions told me the tooth was fine. One opinion said he would recommend just replacing the filling in the tooth since it was old. I had more x-rays done - everything - everything looked fine. Well, that dentist went in to replace the filling and was very surprised after he took the filling out and realized I did indeed need a crown. He hadn't prepared for a crown so he just did a super deep filling. A few months later I went back to Chicago Smiles to get the crown done and they did a fantastic job. I'd never had one before but had heard stories of sensitivity issues or other issues post-crown. I had none of those. I felt as though he really took his time with me and very much appreciated it. I came to Chicago on business and damaged my tooth, I was able to call Chicago Smiles for an emergency appointment and they made time to accommodate. Upon entering the office I was immediatly impressed with the layout, the decor and the professionalism of the staff. I was greeted very warmly, already had ally paperwork completely filled out because their website allows you to print and fill out prior to your visit and sat down for work immediately. During my visit I asked about other cosmetic and noticed they had equipment I have never seen before. I immediately got on Google and found out that they had the most up to date and state of the art laser whitening system in the market. I asked the question, I extended my appointment and had the whitening done. I couldn't be more happy with my experience and I am looking forward to returning for any of my cosmetic needs as I am in Chicago for business once a month. Went in for a routine cleaning and was told my current fillings needed to be replaced. Alright, no big deal. Proceeded to wait a full hour before they so much as gave me an X-ray then sat another 45 minutes. Finally get on to the procedure then move onto my cleaning--which lasted all of about 5 minutes because all they did was polish my teeth. I have never received such a rip off of an appointment in my life. Basically got taken for a ride to pay for fillings I'm not even convinced I needed now because of the incompetence shown during a routine cleaning. Do yourself a favor and find a dentist whose not using the incorrect spelling of "Bright" that should have been enough of a red flag as is....lesson learned read more

I met Dr. Santucci in 2014 for an X-ray and cleaning after not seeing any dentist since 2010! The staff was great as was he-- especially when he delivered the results of my exam. I had 16 cavities and severe gum recession, in addition--I needed a root canal and a crown. Needless to say, after that....I spent a lot of time in his office with him and his amazing staff. Procedures that terrified me and the thought of how long and how much all this work would take was very overwhelming. Everyone at Chicago Smiles was incredibly kind to me from the receptionist (Dave at the time) to the hygienists. This was no easy endeavor, w the amount of recession I had-- almost all my cavities were on my roots. It's now 2018 and I have never had an issue or a new cavity since! In addition I have the same crown which was expertly matched to my natural color. He had all the most innovative and up to date equipment, I was never in pain, not even w the nova cane shot. 2 years later, I decided to get Invisalign and there was no other Dr. or office that I would even consider. My teeth are my most prominent and they were my absolute worst feature, I was incredibly self conscious of them. After 9 months of Invisalign they are now my best feature and I always get compliments! He straightened them, shaved a bit off my two front teeth and canines. He also had my incisors bonded to square off the shape. It's the best smile make over I have ever seen! I was in his office once every 2 weeks during the process and he and his staff were always lovely. I've since sent him 4 referrals and all sing his praises! read more

2.5 stars I just realized that my last dental check-up was in February 2007. Aren't dentists supposed to call you yearly and remind you to come in? Well Chicago Smiles has not contacted me which is prompting me to write a review. This dentist was recommend to us by a co-worker of my husband. Sure the dental assistants are friendly and the dentist has a decent bed-side manner but there are some things that have made me unhappy. We had to shell out $400 for something that the dentist insisted I needed. There were other options and at the time we did not know our insurance wouldn't cover it. Although we could afford it, there were several other things we could have put that money toward. Also there was some miscommunication with making appointments and at one point the receptionist mentioned they were having confusion with paperwork and/or the computer system. This could be why they haven't contacted me for my yearly check-up. Chicago is a big town and if you are not happy, there are other options. I am going to make an appointment with Dr. Rohan who works with your insurance plan and lets you know how much it will cover. For those of you on the hunt for the best dentist in Chicago - LOOK NO FURTHER! As I might have mentioned before, I have been dentist hopping since I moved to Chicago and know first hand how hard it is to find a good and trustworthy dentist in a big city. Dr. Santucci is that dentists. He listens, is very easy to talk to, and more importantly, he runs the kind of dental office one can trust with his/her teeth. From the beginning the communication was great and scheduling a breeze. Amy at the front desk is very nice, helpful and super quick to respond to appointment questions. I had my first dental exam at Chicago Smiles, about a month or so ago, which was quite thorough. Dr. Santucci sat down with me and went over the X-rays and made his suggestions. Note, I say SUGGESTIONS, as he did not act as a car salesman, as other dentists tend to do. He carefully drafted the proposed dental plan and we got started on the work that he saw as priority - two fillings and a crow. Truly impeccable work! I knew what to expect, since I absolutely loved my previous dentist of 7 years, but Dr. Santucci met and exceeded my expectations - a truly talented guy, attentive, thorough, and above all, a real craftsmen. I could not be happier with my experience with Chicago Smiles. I need to give credits as many credits are due: Nicole, the dental assistant, is friendly and absolutely fantastic! For such a petite girl she surely is strong and knows full well what she is doing... I need to go back here to finish my work, and I can honestly say that I can not wait to. I'm going to project my dental fortune and good genes onto this review. First of all, shame on me. I hadn't been to the dentist in YEARS (hey, nothing was hurting). I put off going for more years because I didn't want to get yelled at and lectured by a dentist. I knew it was bad. After calling around, this dentist was able to see me quicker than others, and it's close to my office and has great Yelp reviews. Small office but modern and well-maintained. My hygienist was super friendly and sweet. When I told her how many years it had been since I'd visited, she only said, "Well, all that's important is that you're here now." No guilt whatsoever. I had been hesitant to find a new dentist since I moved to Chicago about 2 years ago. I had been going back and forth to FL from time to time and made sure to make an appt at my regular dentist back home. It had been too long since I had gone and can't say enough nice things about Dr. Santucci and his staff! My hygienist was kind and welcoming, even through all the first time patient x-rays they had to do. There is even TVs on each of the chairs to keep you occupied through all the boring cleanings and such. Also, if you work in the Franklin Center (where Chicago Smiles is located), the convenience alone is worth the trip. Clean office, great staff, and efficient work. That is a 5 star trip in my book! The best dental experience I have ever had! Having only ever experienced either poor work, ridiculous diagnoses, false billing for procedures either fully covered or not performed, or a combination of the above, I was not looking forward to trying yet another dentist. However, I had a great experience with the team here, and definitely recommend you check them out (I'll be back if I'm ever in the area again!): 1) Great attention to detail, careful work with high standards: I went in for a regular dental cleaning. My previous visit 6 months back elsewhere had resulted in a very poor cleaning with large amounts of residual plaque still visible. Therefore, it had in essence been over a year since my teeth were really cleaned. The dental hygienist was extremely thorough, yet not overly harsh, coming back again and again to problem spots until they were properly cleaned, making sure to reach into the gums to attack areas that aren't visible. The hygienist also did a visual oral cancer check and tested my gum health. When I mentioned that I would not like to do x-rays having already done them once (my insurance only covers once), they offered to do them for free. Just a note, they did not give me a fluoride treatment. 2) Straight forward, and no up-selling or sketchy diagnoses: My #1 pet peeve is when dentists take a look, and declare 6-8 (variable each time) cavities that need to be filled. I understand that there are indicators for cavities, but that doesn't necessarily mean that there is a cavity each time. This could have to do with the fact that I made it clear that I would only be in Chicago for the week, so this would be my one and only appointment with the office for any sort of foreseeable future. The only drawback was that when Dr. Santucci came by to take a look at my teeth, he essentially did a simple visual exam, without getting really hands on. I liked that he thoroughly looked over the entire area, but would have appreciated it if he could have given a more thorough exam. 3) Minimal wait time: My appointment started right after I filled out my new patient forms, and Dr. Santucci came by within 5 minutes after the cleaning was completed. I was in and out in about an hour, and the hygienist had spent extra time cleaning my teeth to make sure that everything was done to a high standard. 4) Ample amounts of water! I hate it when I leave and still have polishing residue and grit squeaking around my teeth. Although they are of the spray and suction camp, and not the cup and spit camp, which usually gets a more thorough rinse, I left with a clean feeling mouth. No grit left! 5) Great communication: Each step along the way, the hygienist made sure to tell me what she was doing, and asked about my comfort and water needs along the way. 6) Easy appointment scheduling and simple billing: I called in last minute, a week in advance, and they quickly booked me for an appointment the next week. They do accept Delta Dental and all you need to do is show them a copy of your insurance card. I was not charged any extra charges upon leaving, and doubt I will be hit with any ridiculous extraneous charges after the appointment, as they reconcile all co-pays immediately after the appointment. If you're looking for a thorough, trustworthy dental team who will give you real advice for your teeth, definitely check out Dr. Santucci and Co. at Chicago Smiles! P.S. It was reassuring to me that the office did not look like a salon--I'm always suspicious of places that spend a lot of money on decorating that could have gone to better equipment or more training. I've been going to Dr. Santucci for about 3 years now, since I've moved to the city and he's still as stellar as the first time that I visited. Also, the dental hygienist that I had the last visit, Melissa was superb! What other dentist office can you go to and speak with the person cleaning your teeth about True Blood and Oprah all in one sitting! She ROCKS! Additionally, I must say that I'm a sucker for things that are given to me and the little 'goodie bags' that I leave with are awesome. As most people, I put off going to the dentist. After years of having braces, having a crown put on one of my two front teeth after a drunken escapade in college, a botched cavity filling, and a dentist insisting that procedures were necessary but neglected to tell me they would not be covered by insurance at a great out of pocket expense... well, let's just say I'd rather shove hot rusty nails in places of my body that would rather not have hot rusty nails shoved in them. Thanks to the help of my friends here on Yelp, I have found a dentist that I can stick with. The office staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The hygienist cleaned my teeth without trying to up-sell whitening procedures. They were able to show me digital images of my x-rays in mere minutes. The doctor took his time during the check up, taking a few minutes to get to know me, and then filled a cavity a week later in under an hour. And more importantly... I had no issues after the filling. No uncomfortable bite points, no sensitivity to heat or cold, no discomfort during or after the numbing wore away. The office staff helped me with maximizing my insurance benefits so that I could receive the treatment that I need while avoiding out of pocket expenses which I especially appreciated. -- I didn't feel like they were used car salesmen in scrubs. There are very few people (if any) that I know of that don't absolutely dread their visits to the dentist. What is different about me is that I used to have a phobia about going to the dentist. I had previously experienced such horrible things that it got to the point where I would have melt downs before and during a dentist appointment. Why do I mention this? Because I want you to understand that when I say this Dr and his team are great I really mean it. I can go to the dentist every 6 months without fear now - I walk in confident, knowing that I will be taken care of with understanding and compassion. Look, No one is going to be excited for the scraping and general lack of merriment that comes with a trip to the dentist. But at least if you go here they make a frustrating trip tolerable. They listen to you when you're in pain - instead of pressing harder in some sadistic joy to make your gums bleed They let you take a break if it's too much They clean your teeth and protect you from gum disease etc. but they do it in a way that you can handle... Dr Santucci is great. I went to him on the reccomendation of a friend. My friend and I both are unfortunately dentist regulars. We both hit our front teeth as children and at age 30 have to have all the dental work redone. I intially went to Dr. Santucci for a consulation on a front tooth implant situation and since my case was complicated he actually referred me to a specialist instead of taking it on himself... crazy part being the specialist has talked about how great he is with implants! I think it says a lot about a dentist that he would make such a referral to make sure that you are happy with the end result. I have had my teeth cleaned there and his staff was on time and great with billing my insurance. The cleaning was through and the conversation good. Dr. Santucci is clearly very into making sure your teeth are healthy and look good not matter what it takes. I chose Chicago Smiles because of the extremely high ratings. My expectations were exceeded! From start to finish, Dr. Santucci makes you feel comfortable and very well informed before he begins any work. He suggested four veneers in the front to level out my smile. Of course I know very little about the art of dentistry, but I could tell Dr. Santucci definitely paid attention to the details, and I couldn't be happier with my new smile.
