But I have to give a special mention to Luca, their emotional support pup, who is an absolute sweetheart. Having Luca there is genuinely calming and adds a thoughtful, compassionate touch to the practice. Absolutely terrible. Got scammed into a membership and after the consultation was told that the issues they found were not even included in the membership (should have guessed that was coming) I was told I was on the verge of Gingivitis and my treatment was going to cost approx $2500 PER SIDE of my mouth. One of my teeth had a small brown mark on it so I was worried this was something to be concerned about, they used this "worry" as an opportunity to tell me it was decay and quite serious. Went to see a friends dentist who he has been going to for years and the dentist got rid of the mark on my tooth with a simple all over clean (just a stain because i drink a lot of tea and havent had my teeth cleaned in a few years) and left with just needing 2 fillings. Under $1000 (no insurance). Save yourself and just do not go here. Always make sure you get a second opinion because the first one was an absolute joke! read more

Since 2016 until early 2017, I went into Chicago Loop Dentistry 3-4 times for a filling and a couple routine checkups/cleanings. I had no issues with the cleanings or anything administrative (e.g. billing). The staff was always friendly and a pleasure to interact with. I simply cannot return because of a problem I had with a filling. A cavity formed in the space between two molars, requiring a filling be placed in each molar. I had the filling performed late 2016 but, immediately following, I experienced pain when chewing and sensitivity to cold. The pain didn't reduce over the next 2 weeks, so I went back in for an adjustment. I was not charged for the adjustment, of course. The doctor performed the adjustment and applied a desensitizing product. Unfortunately, after another 3 weeks, I was still in pain, and it became apparent that the issue wasn't addressed. At this point, I had little desire to go back to Chicago Loop because I lost confidence. I left the country shortly after for several months and have simply been living with pain. I just had x-rays taken at a new dentist, and it is clear that there are still cavities under both fillings. So the original procedure did not eliminate the two cavities. Adjustments won't help - I need to have the fillings redone. But I will be headed to a new dentist for the work. UPDATE 9/18/17: Chicago Loop Dentistry called me promptly after I expressed my concern. They offered to resolve the situation by refunding the cost of my fillings to the insurance company and me. The refund was prompt and their communication was thorough. I appreciate their desire to right the situation and felt it important to share the outcome. read more

I don't like going to the dentist. But when Open Care offered a gift card for finding a dentist from their site, I did it. I made an appointment and went, it was not terrible. Convenient downtown location some street parking, but a mass transit hub! Quickly got there. The office clean and calming. The office staff are kind. I didn't have to wait long. My cleaning was effective yet gentle. I went back to get a cavity filled and they were consistent. It was a great experience. read more

After a decade with my last dentist, I wanted to find a place a little more convenient for me and since I work in the loop I started going here last October. I'm the type of person who gets pretty freaked out going to the dentist, so when I had to get my first filling in like, 12 years (boo) the anxiety was ramped up. Dr. Mehta and the hygenist were very kind and kept me in the loop with everything going on. I still walked out of there a bit glassy-eyed and dazed, but the fact that Dr. Mehta called and left me a VM the next day just to check-in on how I was doing meant quite a bit to me. I've since been back for a routine cleaning and I feel bad for not remembering the hygienist's name, but she was also just amazing and friendly and kept checking on how I was doing. I saw Dr. Mehta because me and my family used to see Dr. Decker, but he retired and left his practice to Mehta, so I figured, "Why not try her?" I saw her because I was advised by my orthodontist to get a teeth cleaning and because I had some pain relating to a lower tooth that had a receded gum line. I had the teeth cleaning (which had me crying because that ish hurt) and told her about the pain, and she decided to do an X-ray. Afterward, she said that according to the X-ray, I might have gum cysts. At this point, I go, "Hey what about this receded gum line?" She basically looked at it, said, "Yeah, it's receded," and then promptly ignored it, telling me to go see another dentist who had a 3D X-ray machine to make sure I didn't have gum cysts. I go to him, get an expensive X-ray, only to find that I do not have gum cysts. All in all, between the teeth cleaning and needless X-rays I blew $1,000 to be told there was nothing wrong with me. A part of me figured that if she ignored it, it's not a big deal. Fast-forward through a year of spending every night digging plaque and food bits out of that receded gum, of irritation at the gum and the lower part of my lip it rubbed against, and I couldn't take it anymore. I scheduled an appointment with a periodontist who took one look at the gum and nearly fainted. I told him of my experience with Mehta and the possible gum cysts, to which he said, "I can tell just looking at your gums that you don't have cysts." When I told him I had 3D X-rays done, he said, "I bet she sent you to a different office for those, right?" He basically predicted all the ways she sucked the money out of my bank account and was so appalled by it he called in his assistant to tell her of my misfortune. The periodontist performed a gum graft on me a few week back, and while it hurt the first day, it wasn't anything an ibuprofen couldn't handle. Recovering from gum surgery was better than that teeth cleaning. On top of that, my mom saw Mehta for a tooth issue and was charged $2100. My dad just saw another dentist for the same issue and got charged $400. And I can say with absolute certainty that Decker never charged as much as Mehta does. It's hard not to be bitter about blowing a grand to be ignored, and I still have half a mind to ask for at least $700 back (knocking off $300 for the teeth cleaning), and it's hard to write a review like this because Mehta and her staff do seem like genuinely nice people who know how to take care of a tooth, but at the same time they flat out overcharge, irradiated my face a billion times, and in my case they ignored a serious issue. Needless to say, I will be using another dentist for any future appointments. read more

Let me just start off by saying that I am TERRIFIED of going to the dentist... I have extreme anxiety going to the dentist. Last few times were so bad that I either passed out, barfed, or both... So needless to say, I was very nervous and freaking out a bit when my tooth broke one night. After extensive research, I decided to book Dr. Mehta for several reasons: 1. They take my insurance 2. Their website is very informative, they even have a section on dental phobia and anxiety, which made me feel a little bit at ease 3. They had a small office that only took appointments, so I assumed that I didn't need to be rushed in and rushed out 4. They were super easy to book on Zocdoc 5. They had good yelp reviews On the day of the appointment, I was a nervous wreck, could not eat all day, cried a couple times... the usual dental phobia stuff. I showed up to the office, almost passed out, but didn't. Phew! Checked in with Chante in the front desk, she was very professional, no extensive/brain teasing forms to fill out. I did wait quite a bit in the waiting room, but Chante apologized and said that they were running a bit late. Jose was my hygienist, he was professional, knowledgeable, and explained everything to me as he was doing it. Then Dr. Mehta came in, and we talked for a bit about my anxiety, she really listened to my issues, and reassured that they will take very good care of me. She then started examining me, told me what my treatment options were, and told me I could work the financial stuff out with insurance and stuff with Chante. Again, Chante was super knowledgeable on how much everything cost, both out of pocket and what my insurance covered. They also booked me for the first appointment the next morning to begin my dental work. I'm so happy I found this place. I've never enjoyed going to the dentist in the past, but I finally found a dentist where I feel super comfortable at Chicago Loop Dentistry. I've been to other dentists and it felt very rushed. Dr. Mehta and her assistant took the time to take pictures of all my teeth, thoroughly explain all the details of her diagnosis and was very honest about my various options. I was pretty impressed with her bedside manner--- just felt very at ease, I understood everything the way she explained it and she answered all my questions. It wasn't until the day of the appointment as I was walking out the door that they called & told me they HAD a bcbs provider but he retired. Booked here for convenience of online booking. Read reviews prior and now agree with many of the low-ranking comments. The first questionable sign: I booked online for convenience then received a call the day prior to the appointment to confirm I was coming in. Not to provide insurance information, merely to just confirm. That is the opposite intent of using online booking. Incongruent. The positive highlight: Both reception staff were very friendly and helpful upon arrival! 1. Quality of Care** A. During our visit, Dr. Mehta told me I have a cavity after reviewing my X-rays. -- The dentist showed me a tooth with signs of a cavity and informed me "you have a cavity". I informed her my [now retired] dentist alerted me to it earlier this year and to keep an eye on it and that it wasn't yet ready for dental work. Dr. Mehta did not respond to my comment, turned back to her screen and took a photo of my cavity for "my record", still not speaking and then asks me "so is this what you expected from your visit?" to which I was taken aback as she appeared to be ready to leave the room "sure, yeah [?]" and with her surgical mask half covering her face she says 'nice to meet you' and leaves the room. B. Felt rushed -- Dr. Mehta told the hygienist to apply Fluoride to my teeth. While finishing up my cleaning, the hygienist "rush flossed" my mouth in a way I've never experienced before. It's the type of rush flossing bad patients do when we remember to do it. I could hear the next patient in the waiting room arrive and realized I was with the only hygienist on call. I was then asked if I wanted Fluoride, and told it might not be covered by my insurance (which I appreciated being informed but should have been checked earlier, as I was concerned about additional costs)...seeing she was in a rush to get to the next patient, I declined even though the dentist advised this. Very confusing - professionals do not rush. 2. Longer Time Than Anticipated** As a new patient, I understood receiving full X-Rays but did not plan to have a full mouth done (~20 minutes). The logic makes sense but it was not communicated to me that a full set of x-rays was to be done. Communicating each task before doing so should be a standard. (This would have allowed me to alert work that I would be taking longer than the typical 40 total minutes I've experienced in the past with dentist check-ups and x-rays). 3. Lack of Privacy/Organization in Office Space & Bad Time Management** -- The patient room was the size of a shoebox. It was comically small to accommodate the large equipment that routinely knocked into eachother (monitor arm and dental light machine; flimsy cord to connect the x-rays to the laptop that routinely caught on the hygienists coat; not being able to see the dentist when she arrived because there was so little space and I didn't want to crane my neck as I already have neck issues, etc). -- I could hear another patient receive dental work from the dentist along with their conversational exchanges (very friendly, different than my interactions; interpersonal consistency is important even with patients who aren't interested in small talk); there was no white noise or radio to cover up these sounds, perhaps a small radio played in the waiting room that I could faintly hear. -- I could also hear the office staff greet new patients and tell them they would let the hygienist know they were here. But the hygienist was with me and the staff never came back to vocally alert the hygienist. So that was kinda weird. Why not just say she is finishing up with a patient and we were running over? 4. Pressed for Services I did not come to address (cosmetics)** -- The intake form asks questions about the patient's feelings about their smile aka MARKETING. From reading other reviews, I confirmed that yes smaller dentist companies may have different approaches to attracting and retaining clients, but it feels a little seedy to plant the idea that someone's smile isn't beautiful because of crooked teeth. Let the patient bring that up with an open-ended question "is there anything else you'd like us to know?" or "are you interested in cosmetic work?" otherwise the intake form appears to be designed to solicit upsell information that could be discovered during a genuine dentist-patient consultation. I'll be returning to my Northwestern dentist practice who are not in the business of up-selling, and who I promptly followed up with apologizing for "cheating" on them because it was so hard to book with them. I now have an email address I can use when I'm busy at work to go back/forth on the phone. I will also be looking for a dentist who uses progressive practices such as laser treatment (less wear/tear on the tooth) for cavities should my primary dentist urge me to have it addressed ASAP. read more

They are sensitive if you are not a dentist type of person, and if you are cool with seeing a dentist, well they will impress you either way. Their technology is great, they really examine the teeth fully. I haven't had a cavity in over 20 years and Dr. Mehta had my filling done in a matter of 10 minutes or less(it wasn't a very serious or deep cavity so I went without any pain killer and still didn't feel a thing). I have a TMJ problem and she offers a great bite guard, and if pain is really bad, she also does Botox. I couldn't say enough good things about this dentistry practice. read more

If there was "0" points as a score, I would give Dr. Mehta "0". I live in the loop, and Dr. Mehta clinics is right there. Also it was listed in my insurance... All the excellent reviews online. And I though why not? I know that my dental situation is pretty bad, and I went there to check, if there are any cavities that need to be fixed. She did x-ray and did not do cleaning, but she charged me for both, cleaning and x-ray, and she told me that actually there are no necessary dental cavities to fix at the moment. Instead she prescribed me fancy cleaning, I did not find it necessary, as I learned that people with bleeding gum having it. My gum was fine, and it seemed not relevant. I wished I asked another doctor regarding my cavities. There was pretty bad situation at the time doctor Mehta ignored. Few months later I have got 3 root canals. I showed the x-ray she has done to two other doctors, and both were shocked that she did not even mention it. If she fixed them at that time, it would save me three teeth. I believe with my insurance it would be too cheap for her to do it, so she pretended it never existed. I agree with one of the comments that for her patients are just dollar signs. read more

All the posts below about how she sees patients as dollar sighs are right and cannot be more right. These people run a rip-off shop. I'm also a former patient of the previous owner of the practice, Dr. Decker. In fact, never in my life have I been charged this much during each visit at a dentist. Do not expect to leave the office without an $800+ bill. The first thing they want to know about you when you walk into their office is what is the maximum of your insurance coverage. They will find a way to get all the money out during the year. The way they bill your insurer is shady. One time I had a crown and they sneaked in a procedure called "gingivectmy" when submitting the claim. That procedure was never presented to or discussed with me before. Thank God my insurance plan caught them and refused the payment. When you're doing annual or semi-annual exams at her office, do not expect her to check your gum or x-ray your roots. All she looked for is where to do more fillings and more crowns on you. A periodic exam is checking ONLY the teeth that needs to be cosmetically restored. One time I asked her to point to the tooth in my mouth (instead of from an x-ray) that she suspected a cavity, but needed not to do any work yet. She would not show me. I know why. There is no money to be made by teaching a patient to do better dental care. And a shallow surface which Dr. Decker would bill a "1 surface", she will bill you "3 surfaces". Of course, you cannot argue with her about that as she always "stand by" her treatment and opinion, i.e. she's the expert, we the patients are dumb. If you refuse a procedure, you will immediately see Mehta changed her facial expression, turning cold and upset -- because no more money for her. Her receptionist is as bad. One time she overcharged me and when I called to ask for a refund, guess what, she became the one who was upset. Teeth cleaning was never thorough. Some of the teeth in the back were never touched during cleaning. Why should they? Plaque buildup will just mean more money for Mehta to do more procedures on you. MORE MONEY for her. When Dr. Decker sold the business, I didn't change dentists, thinking I was supporting a young dentist who just started out. I gradually saw their true colors. I was a fool. I hope you are smarter than I was. For a woman who is this heartless and shady, it's a shame. Mehta's fillings only last for seven months. Three out of four fillings she did on me back in Feb17 fell out in Sep. She was only willing to refill two of them and refused to refill the third. These fillings were recommended by her and at the consultation, she didn't discuss the high failure rates. Truly incompetent and irresponsible dentist and all she thought about at the consultation (and I guess every day of her life) was to make as much quick money as possible. read more

I first saw Dr. Mehta a few years ago when she was at another location by my office in Naperville. My regular dentist was not there and I needed some emergency work done. I HATE going to the dentist and I was very worried about someone else working on me, but I didn't have much of a choice. I decided to proceed with Dr. Mehta and I am glad I did! She put me at ease right away even though I was feeling extremely anxious. She was very personable and did not lay into me about how bad my teeth were like other dentists I've seen in the past. I ended up having to go back for more work after that visit and I did so with Dr. Mehta. After moving to the city, I was on the hunt for a new dentist. Who hates going to the dentist, raise your hand... I am positive you raised your hand. I raised both! The anxiety I get when going to the dentist is real, but going to the dentist is a necessity. There is no way out of it. I was looking for a new dentist on my Delta Dental discount plan and I found Dr. Mehta through Dr. Decker's information. I called to make sure Dr. Mehta participated with my plan and scheduled my appointment. I had also contacted Delta to make sure she was in network. Delta got back to me to inform me she was not listed on my plan. I sadly emailed (they were closed) Loop Dentistry to cancel my appointment. To my surprise Dr. Mehta personally emailed me back on a Saturday morning letting me know that she would have Chante look into this issue Monday morning. Monday morning came and I got a call from Chante assuring me that they would honor my discount plan. I was off to a good start. My initial exam was great. Dr. Mehta is VERY gentle and so sweet! I was so nervous and Alicia (dental assistant) kept me calm and laughing. Dr. Mehta and Alicia make a great team. Alicia cracks me up! She is so great at making you feel relaxed. I had a root canal done at a previous office and the tooth cracked before I could get in for the crown. They also said that I would have to pull the tooth or do crown lengthening ($1,000+) -- that they could not put a crown on unless I had that done. Dr. Mehta looked at the tooth and told me she could definitely get a crown on and she did! I have it on as I am typing this review. I also have two baby teeth -- I know, weird. Dr. Mehta referred me to an oral surgeon to have a back up plan in case if one day they decide to come out. No dentist has ever done that! They usually just shrug it off or say that it's cool/odd. Now I have a back up plan just in case -- with a wonderful oral surgeon. The only negative thing (I have to be honest) to say is about my cleaning. The dental hygienist was new and I sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes. Chante was very apologetic, and assured me I would be taken back soon. In the meantime, Dr. Mehta took me back to have a small filling done while I waited. I did not need any numbing and it was a breeze. Again, she is very gentle and calming. I went in the next room for my cleaning and I did not like the hygienist at all. No need to go into detail, because she was not their permanent hygienist. **Please do not let this discourage you.** UPDATE: 2/21/2017 - Just saw Jose for a cleaning and he was wonderful!!! One of the best cleanings I've ever had. They made a great choice bringing him on the team! I have been here about 7 times and each time has been pleasant - even with the cleaning issue. I laugh every time I am in that office. It is a crazy feeling to actually want to go to the dentist. Who am I?? You can tell from this very long review that I highly recommend Dr. Mehta. My dental anxiety will always be there, but it helps so much to have a wonderful dentist and staff to make it easier to deal with. read more
