It is quite clear that the Truckee population simply has no choice when it comes to providing quality cable TV service and Suddenlink is capitalizing on this lack competition. I routinely have nothing but technical software problems with my TIVO units necessitating calls to their after hours customer service technician. Wait times are horrible and this evening I spent an hour on hold due to receiving a message that none of my channels above 200 were authorized for me to receive. The technician tried a few things and gave up telling me that he had to set me up for a home visit by a service technician. The only date available was near two weeks out and they gave me a window of either a whole morning or afternoon to be at home. I am a professional that works 8 to 5 pm daily and I can not simply vanish from my office waiting for a half day to meet with a technician whom will likely only "swap" out my TIVO box for a new unit. This type of service suggests that Suddenly is grossly under staffed for it's client base and this is extremely disgruntling considering that they recently jacked up the costs of my monthly service package by 20 dollars. If I could get high speed internet from another provider, I'd cancel my service and just stream form HULU or SLING only those stations that I really need to watch. Unfortunately, large trees prevent my reception from Direct TV. Suddenlink makes a ton money by forcing one to select packages that are just way too big. My only hope is that they go bankrupt and a new, more customer service oriented cable company buys them out. read more

Not only do I have it at one home but also another and all the same incompetence is consistent at each residence... When I mention their name to anyone during a conversation it brings up discust and distaste with everyone that has had to deal with them. Suddenlink customer service is the worst I've seen of any utility providing services to the public. When I tried to use the automated telephone service for technical support, I had to game the system to finally get to talk to a person. There is no option to talk to a person in the menus. My request was simple. I just needed to upgrade my old TIVO box with one with increased bandwidth. I had to schedule and appointment and the soonest appointment was 3 weeks away. Then they couldn't tell me what time the serviceman would be coming. The customer service person said it would be between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. And they could not call me the day before to give better time. Ridiculous! If Suddenlink wants to retain any customers. It needs to completely revamp, reorganize & restaff its customer service department. Service from them used to be good. Now it has degraded to be nearly useless. read more

Promises made and broken!!! Whenever Truckee is crowded, the system gets overwhelmed and the service falls off badly. Don't try to stream a show or do anything important over their network. And don't bother to call and ask for a credit - they will tell you they are working on it but don't know when it will be fixed so can't figure out how to give you as a credit. I have used Suddenlink cable internet service for over a year now and the service is getting increasingly slower. The latency is pretty bad most weekday evenings and so bad it's not usable on weekend evenings when all the vacation homeowners are in town. My belief is that Suddenlink has grossly oversold the service without the infrastructure to support it. AT&T can't be any worse than this which is what I'll be trying next. read more

I Have had Sudden link for a few years now and the past 8 months have been horrible. Very slow internet service. I have had several tech guys come out to the house and they see no issues. Every time I call customer service, they are nice but they do not offer any insight as to what the actual problem is and how they are going to fix it it. They still continue to sell higher Internet speed in Truckee,ca ( check out their online offers, 30mbps , yeah right!) and that is wrong! My internet has only gone out 40 times today. Somedays it can actually be worse.

Tv is fine. Internet is a joke. Less than 1mb/second most of the time and I'm paying for 50mb/sec. When it is a busy weekend and a lot of people are up the service is useless. They need to beef up their infrastructure ASAP. read more

I had Suddenlink internet in Truckee and the performance was pretty good for the most part. When we sold our home I called Suddenlink a week ahead of closing and told them that I wanted to cancel effective January 10th, the day the sale of our Truckee house was planned to close. They said that the earliest a technician could come out and disconnect us was January 16, two days after our billing cycle ended. First I'm thinking, "really?, a technician has to disconnect our service". then I figured it wasn't a big deal paying for a few extra days of service so I didn't "make a stink" about it. Suddenlink also confirmed that I needed to bring the gateway modem back to them. So I carved time out of our busy closing/moving day and brought the modem to the shabby Suddenlink office in Truckee. Once the woman in the office finished what she was doing and asked how she could help me, I explained that I was returning their modem. She looked up my account and said that I owned the modem so I could keep it. So I brought it back to the house and reinstalled it, thinking that the people buying our house would appreciate having a modem and internet for the first few days and give them time to transfer the service over to their name. Since I was on Autopay, I didn't notice that Suddenlink billed me for service from January 15 to Feb 14, the usual $66. The next month they billed my $70 for not returning the modem. This got my attention so I called them and they said they don't prorate so I had to pay the $66 for technically 1 day of service but from a practical standpoint, for no service at all since we had moved out on the 10th. After researching the $70 charge for the modem, they told me that was an error and said they would reverse it. So folks, this is an example of what those of us that have been around a while call "highway robbery". I was able to get out of the $70 charge for nothing but not out of the $66 charge for almost nothing. Suffice it to say that my opinion of Suddenlink and their billing practices is quite low and I would encourage others to avoid doing business with them. read more

We have a second home in Tahoe every time we come up the internet or Cable is not working! I call every time but they cannot come out when we are up on weekends! Yesterday we cut skiing short so be could meet with a tech! He said that a limitor had been placed on our line from the beginning and that is why we never got hd channels. This morning both the cable and Internet are out and we will have to skip skiing again to wait for the tech. The lady on the phone offered us an$20 credit...you have to be kidding! I have called many times, spent hours on the phone,listened to complaints from renters and have been paying for HD service which i have not had since August! This is not good customer service...wish there was an alternative because this is not worth the $90 per month we pay! read more

Here in Truckee (and I assume everywhere else) there is a usage limit. If you go over your monthly allowance they charge extra as if this were a mobile phone plan. I understand they are trying to limit the big users, but if the demand is there, perhaps they have an infrastructure problem as opposed to a customer problem. read more

This service is HORRIBLE. We pay close to $200 a month to have phone internet and cable and whenever it's a busy weekend for second homeowners our service is backed up, can't access, etc. Every time it's a different story but every time we WANT to use it, well, it sucks. read more

I have lived in Truckee for 22 years. I have seen numerous owners of our local cable provider, varing degrees of service and feature/pricing all over the map. Today I tried to convert my internet service to sudden link. My application went fine until I refused to reveal my social security # I was told that unless I was willing to offer the # I would be charged a non refundable $100 connection charge. The Suddenlink agent said that I should go to their Truckee office where I could present two photo id's and possibly they would not require the social. NOT, SUDDENLINK HAS BEEN SOLD TO A NEW OFF-SHORE OWNER AND TODAY, YES TODAY, THEY INSTITUTED A NEW POLICY REQUIRING A SOCIAL OR $100. APPARENTLY I WAS THE FIRST CUSTOMER TO SAY NO. Just when you think Suddenlink couldn't get any worse, they drop CBS affiliate KPIX 5 out of San Francisco. 18 years, 3 or 4 cable companies, and now they drop our only Bay Area non-PBS station from the line up with no notice. Disgusting. read more

We have been trying to contact Suddenlink concerning an issue with the utility easements on our lot in Truckee. We simply need to find a contact person. Neither phone calls nor even a direct visit to the local office (found only installation crews) has yielded any one person who can answer that question. Perhaps starting at the top? We will try emailing the regional VP. Unfortunately, there is no contact information listed for the senior vice president of Customer Experience!! If there was an option not to give them a star that is what I would do. They are TERRIBLE!!! the customer service, especially from the Truckee office, is the worst I have ever dealt with. This week alone I have had to call them 4 times because my service is not working. Every time I get a bill i have to call because they cannot seem to get it right and that just brings me to the "customer service" you have to deal with when you do call. I will admit everyone I have talked to outside of the Truckee office has been really nice and helpful, but the Truckee office is rude, unhelpful and do not seem to realize that I am paying them a lot of money for a service that never works. I live in an area without any other choice for service, but trust me if I could go elsewhere I would. I cannot count the number of times I have been hung up on by customer service people, so my advice if you do have to call is give them a phone number to call you back on before you do anything. This the worst cable company I have ever had to deal with. I just wish I could give them a negative star rating. I don't think they deserve a single star. It starts withe their terrible customer service on the phone. I wish a larger company would come in and purchase them and fix things but I just can't wait any longer. I live in Auburn Ca. We use to have an office here but they closed it about 3 months ago. Now after canceling my TV service I have to return my TiVo boxes to Truckee Ca, that is an hour and a half drive. I still have the internet service because there are no other options. I asked Suddlink if a service tech could pick up there stuff and was told no. I also asked if it could be shipped back and they said that there is no shipping to my area. I don't live on Mars!!! If you have a choice make a different one. NO STARS!! HORRIBLE!!! I was over doing business with them before we ever started doing business. Tried to reach a local branch by googling their number and was routed half a continent away to Texas. Dealt with awful service in Texas for a week, phone calls that were not returned, faxes lost, miscommunications with the local office over the actual installation agreement. Finally some technicians arrived at our door to see what we needed, a week after trying to open our business with out phone lines, internet or cable, and we were told the entire place needed to be rewired. It just had been rewired for our needs by the previous owner, and I knew it. Then I was told by the poor fellow that did show up that if I wanted to walk into our local office I could get the number of the local guy I should talk to, but as a technician he wasn't able to give that number out. What? Why is it that the only number available to me is a number in Texas, and the local supervisor, when I do finally steal his number, wants to give me a ration because I didn't call him first? But no one can give out his number and it isn't available in google. Is this a viable business or a front? Change of business name turned into a change of who I do business with.....a week and a half later they still don't have it right. The worst guys in town will be better than the Suddenlink guys in this town, and in Texas. read more

We have had Suddenlink for Internet, TV and Phone in Truckee,CA for the last 2 years. The service is absolutely and consistently terrible during the holidays when big crowds come up to Tahoe. 2 years ago when we started to have problems with Internet speed and TV reception over the Xmas holidays, Suddenlink kept sending us technicians to try to troubleshoot our setup. Nothing helped, and finally one of the techs said he may lose his job by saying this but the issue is not with our setup, it's with Suddenlink not having the adequate systems and bandwidth to provide reliable service during peak times . I was hoping Suddenlink would eventually make the necessary investments, but 2 years have past and the terrible service and drops during the holidays continue. Sounds like Suddenlink has decided that higher profits outweigh the risk of disappointing their captive audience. Definitely need more competition in this market. read more

My miserable experience begins with the install tech not bringing all my equipment with him for the install. I asked where the HD box was and was told it was not necessary. Knowing this was false, I called Suddenlink, informed them, and the took off the HD/DVR services. I also gave the tech the installation+first month with a personal check. Well, I received a phone call the following month from Suddenlink that I was past due and needed to pay immediately to make sure my service was not disconnected. I informed them I paid the tech, was told for the most part, o well and I needed to pay. I paid to keep my service on the following day the check had also been put through. I was able to get the amount back, after some negotiations with the CS Rep. Finally when I turned off my service, I was told there were no areas to turn in equipment, and that if I wanted to I could drive nearly 4 hours to turn in my cable internet equipment. I told them they were crazy and they informed me they could mail me a box for the equipment and I could return it then. I gave them my forwarding address and waited. Well, a month later, still no box, and I received another bill although I was paid and closed for 70.00, which was because I still had the equipment. I paid because I didn't want anything showing delinquent on my end. At the time I paid I spoke with another CS rep who told me they didn't know where the box went, but would send another. Well fast forward to today. Still no box in sight I spoke with another CS rep. He told me the other two reps were incorrect and no box could be sent to me. He said the only way I could return the equipment would be to actually take it in to an office, which is 4 1/2 hrs from my location. Luckily, I will be traveling to an area where they actually have an office so after 2 months of dealing with this miserable company, I will finally get the opportunity to cut these annoying ties I have with them. I do not plan on ever dealing with this company again. read more

Suddenlink is not customer friendly. We switched from Dish to Suddenlink in September when we moved because they were willing to make us a good deal on internet and cable. Unfortunately we can't change internet service right now because of lack of choices but I do not recommend Suddenlink for anything! They cut out channels because they didn't want to pay for them and were unwilling to change our bill since we had specifically picked those channels when we chose our service. Their excuse was they added new channels that we don't watch. When I tried to talk to them about canceling because of this issue, the lady was rude and told me that I could watch those shows online. I explained to her that since we have their internet, those shows are blocked online. She continued to tell me that I was wrong because she could do it. They are constantly slowing down our internet speeds because they can and if you call them about it, they immediately change it back. The internet goes out all the time and even TV channels will just drop when they feel like it. No one at customer service was friendly nor wanted to help make their customer happy. We switched back to Dish today and I am already a happier customer. Now if only I could find a different company to switch our internet. read more
