If you have another option, I would do it. I don't, so here we are.
I have only been to the store on Loop 336 (Conroe Tx.) one time. The service was fine, no complaint.
My issue is the cost, continuous bill increases, and frequent drops of internet service. (As a baseline, I used to use Dish TV and Comcast Internet.) My current service level includes Internet 400 and "Value" level for TV. I have 4 Tivo minis and the Tivo HD/DVR. My services have not changed since June 2018 when I first signed up. My most recent bill was $224.07 (Statement Date 3-22-20).
First off, Tivos are old technology. I was shocked when they told me in 2018 that this was the hardware they used. Suddenlink does offer upgraded hardware now, but it would only increase my bill. I believe it is called Altice One. When talking to customer service, they said my monthly bill would actually go up. Then why switch? Same service for more money??? I'll pass...
Bill increases: They happen often. Again, as a point of reference, my last bill was $224.07. My bill from 12 months ago (4-25-19) was $191.38. If my math is correct, that is an increase of $32.00+ or 17%. (I didn't get a 17% raise, but they are collecting 17% more.) When I originally signed up, my bill was about $130. (New customer discounted billing...) As I look over the last several months, the total bill has not been the same. Prices change, fees get added, fees are not billed, etc. Just don't expect them to bill you a constant amount each month. I really liked it when they added a "Network Enhancement Fee" of $3.50. I can tell you, nothing has been enhanced!!! Bottom line, expect constant bill increases. Remember, they give discounts to the new customers, not the folks that have been with them. But, I guess it's like that with all the Internet and TV providers.
Internet Reliability: Leaves a lot to be desired. Recently, I've been working from home which has really enhanced the reality that their reliability is not there. I would estimate that the internet drops 3 to 4 times a day for 10 to 15 minutes each time. (I wonder if they would consider a partial refund??? I know, that's not going to happen...) Compared to Comcast, Suddenlink is far below that bar. The real big issue is when storms blow through and their system goes down. (Power outage maybe?) Anyway, their system is very slow to re-boot. In fact, on one occasion, it took 3 days for them to get their system back up. ("Network Enhancement Fee"???) I called several times and was always told their system was fine and I needed to re-boot my modem. I'm not new to networking issues...I knew it wasn't my system or hardware. But, that is the script they were given to tell customers. Any refund offered...of course not. In addition to the lack of reliability, the "offered" speed has never been achieved. I have top of the line equipment, which I purchased, but get nowhere near the 400 mps speed I'm paying for. The best recorded speed I've gotten is 230 mps.
Summary: Stay away if you have any other options. Their bill increases are frequent, speeds are not as advertised and the reliability is below that of Comcast (my point of comparison). Unless you get the Altice One, their technology is 30 to 40 years old. ("Network Enhancement Fee"???) What exactly are they enhancing...???
