I want to commend the Optimum technician that came to my house yesterday. His name is Tyler and he fixed everything quickly. He was knowledgeable and professional. I can not say enough nice things about him. I was very frustrated after a chat and phone calls with Optimum customer service over a two day span. Tyler knew exactly what was wrong when he walked in. He explained everything to me and made sure all my devices were connected to my new modem/router before he left. Ugh... I have been trying to help my dad with his Optimum cable issues. For weeks his printers kept dropping off the network. We have tried four different printers, resets, etc. So maybe it's the router. We exchanged the router and were told "it's activated and ready to go." Sure, that is after another hour spent with tech support on the phone. This doesn't happen some of the time, it happens all of the time! But, that fixed the problem, so it was an Optimum router issue. Now, one day later, the cable box is giving me an error every time I try to switch the channel with the guide. And the video goes on and off. I have been through all of the troubleshooting procedures with no luck. -Update. After some research and troubleshooting, I found that the cable box uses the modem/router to update the guide. It turns out that the cable box is incompatible with the new modem/router. Hmmm, you think that they would have known that when they issued us the new modem/router. I guess it's another trip to their store. I did find that connecting an Ethernet cable between the router and cable box fixed the problem after a reboot. -Optimum, your Yelp comments from "Business Owner" are not helpful. You see your one-star average review and are doing nothing about it. No business with one-star is worthy of the customers that support them! read more

This is probably the worst company I have ever dealt with (and the previous Suddenlink). When we cancelled our services, they continued to bill us for months even though we had already been receiving and paying for services from another internet provider. When we questioned them, they acted as though we were putting them out just to do the research. After finding that we had cancelled their services, they still made us pay an additional month for services we never received. Then, they sent the remainder of their fraudulent bills to a collection agency trying to collect the remaining $350+ dollars they say we still owe them and now are impacting our credit score. I sure wish the government would shut this company down because they are as corrupt as our politicians and are stealing from people. read more

Optimum is full of crooks. When I moved addresses, they told me to keep my router. They then proceeded to charge me $75 for unreturned equipment, and they would not refund me. I disputed the charge with my debit card company. This month, I was once again charged $75 in addition to my bill for a bogus charge. For a second time, they refuse to refund me. optimum/ suddenlink can eat my ass It is impossible to cancel your account online outside of a small set of business hours. You are transferred to retention which is apparently trained to try to get you to transfer your account to another person or get new internet at your new place, (which i understand) but when you decline, they are trained to charge you for another month. They also disconnected me halfway through the process, likely in the hopes that I'd just give up. "Jess" wouldn't transfer me to a supervisor or manager, wouldn't give me his employee number to complain and just sat on the line saying no, you'll absolutely be charged for at least another month or until someone can come out and disconnect/ remove service. Apparently they are now trained to refuse to escalate or allow you to talk to another person or push up. I was finally able to threaten with reporting to the bbb and got just the day charged after 19 minutes of having to argue with them. I'd been trying to cancel for over a week, but thats $3 vs $86. We can also add another $86 to the talley because i'd moved close to a month previous and i knew it would be a battle. I wish i had done it earlier. I hate being a karen. I was polite, kept my tone firm, but they literally force you to be aggressive with them or they'll continue to charge you out the ass. It shouldnt be this way. I have been with Suddenlink for nearly 20 years. When Optimum bought them out the customer service went to trash. I have been in store several times to update service and was told I had to call. When I call I usually get the runaround and I'm talking to someone in a completely different state or country. Why can't I talk to a friendly local person face to face? I finally had it and swapped to a competitor. Even cancelling is a pain. I returned equipment and they would not give me anything that verified I returned the equipment. They also told me I had to call to cancel service. The guy on the phone, again, was in another state. He was polite but doing his job in trying to keep me as a customer. I think it should be easy to walk in for upgrades, cancellations, concerns, etc. Why have a storefront if you won't help anybody? Other than that the services paid for worked well, hence why I was with them so long. I don't like changing but I want to be treated professionally and respectfully. They billed us 900 saying we have bounced these 600$checks to them when we've never written a check to them. Another company took payment after giving us our accurate account information and turns out it wasn't even optimum so we had to dispute the charge and get a new card. We only discovered it wasn't them when they took more money out of our account. The billing department can't even see the account details. Can't pause, rewind live tv. It just sucks in every way. The Public Utility Department of Texas is also a good place to go and complain. I'm filing a complaint with the FCC, FTC, BBB, and the Attorney Generals office once my internet is up and running. They lied to me on four separate occasions in the last 48 hours, over charged me, then cut my service completely after I dropped my phone and satellite. I wish we could find an attorney that would consider a class action against consumer fraud. I paid for a phone for over a year while they tried to get it to work and just recently received service. I pay for 1Gig speed but can't seem to ping any higher then 80-120 Mbps. Would someone please help College Station get more competition? Our other options are extremely expensive. I called Optimum because my cable boxes in my bedrooms would not connect to yhe main box. Six different technicians showed up over 12 days and had no idea how to solve the problem. I called the Retention department at Optimum and chewed some butt. The next day a technician shows up and fixed the problem. WHY did it 7 different technicians over 12 days to solve the issue? Some of the technicians that showed up couldn't ever speak English. VERY POOR customer support on the phone and technician support. When fibre is installed I'm dumping Optimum. read more

A technician came to my house and forgot to log as a completed job and my whole account is stuck on "waiting to activate". I've been a customer of theirs for over 10 years and have had time after time of service interruptions, needing technical support, or customer service without a person to be found and let me tell you, their customer service setup is THE WORST! If you are a current customer, it is almost impossible to get to a real person. The phone tree is nigh impossible to get through, unless...you tell them you are a new customer, then they will hurry up and get on the phone, but not to help you; only to sell you services. Recently, I moved to a new house after living in our current one for over 6 years. An Optimum/Suddenlink tech came out to switch our service, make sure the cable was live, and hook up our modem/activate it. He did a few things and told us we were good to go. The next day, the internet quit working. I spent 2 HOURS on the phone with them to troubleshoot, and then the tech assistant (from a call center in some other country that barely spoke english) hung up on me! I went to their local store and was told they cannot assist me and that Optimum has switched their local stores to retail/new service only. They have essentially shut down their in person customer service. ***Needless to say, other options are in town now and I have switched internet companies. Good riddens Optimum. I LOATHE THIS COMPANY!! They are the WORST cable and internet provider I've ever had to do business with... Unfortunately, there is no other choice in the B/CS area unless you want to deal with a satellite dish company (who always require contracts). If SuddenLink would just put as much time, effort, and money into their customer service and actual cable service, they wouldn't need to advertise so much! They constantly advertise via TV commercials, billboards, spam, and junk mail. Their marketing is relentless and excessive, but the service down right SUCKS. Our HD channels always freeze up, cutting in & out, goes blurry, and have non-stop audio and visual distortions. The channel guide is incredibly slow and is the same interface from 2004. For goodness sake, UPDATE your operating system! They need to take a look at what AT&T U-Verse is doing! I got spoiled in Houston where U-Verse is available and miss it dearly!! Don't even bother calling SuddenLink if you have any issues. You'll be on hold for 20 minutes and they will constantly transfer you around like a game of hot potato. It's EXHAUSTING! I can't wait until there's another cable/internet provider available in this area. It's ludicrous how this company has the market cornered like this- I'm sure they're paying the right people to keep it that way... A monopoly no doubt. It's depressing to spend $126/mo for basic Internet and mid level cable (no fancy tiers or channels) and I get such poor service and crappy channels. An elderly lady was in line with me and she needed to sit down, and there were no chairs!! I felt so bad for her. It was beyond cruel to make someone that age stand for 30-45 minutes. I call Suddenlink and am told "they are probably running late just wait a few more hours." On a Friday night? And after Suddenlink had the gall to voicemail me that morning that if I'm not there between 1 and 5 they will charge ME $60 for missing the appointment. So I call at 5 and ask where is my $60 since I was there and they weren't. "Oh, we don't do that." What a dumpster fire of a company - there equipment breaks, I schedule an appointment with their techs on a 4 hour window and then get an "oh well, too bad we were so busy". This is by far the worst service provider in the entire area. They have absolutely no shame in bullying you, refusing to refund credit card over-payments, or adhering to any basic customer service. They will find ways to over-charge customers and they force you to pay or hit your credit (so basically you have no option to give in to whatever they demand, even if it was just wrong). When we cancelled our service, we got a call telling us that they can "offer" to refund over-payments and incorrect charges (as if they are doing the customer a favor) IF we chose to continue their service. They are not only the worst ISP I've ever had, they're one of the worst businesses of any kind I've ever dealt with. Currently they keep trying to charge my checking account for larger and larger amounts because part of their system thinks I'm behind on my payments. However, their web page says I'm all caught up. Their system won't let me cancel auto payments. I just called their customer service number and waited an hour to find out that their system is down and there's nothing they can do to help me. I'm thinking I might have to change my checking account number just so they can't keep trying to charge me. They also inject their own ads into some web pages. That's an incredibly invasive thing to do. Fortunately most web sites are encrypted now, but if you use one that isn't expect to see Suddenly ads splattered in them. HORRIBLE!
