At the time I got this "service", this was the only one available in our neighborhood due to some agreement that made it so only the new neighborhoods would have a choice of the newer, better, networks going in. A bastardized version of a grandfather clause effectively gave Suddenlink a monopoly in the older neighborhoods. The lousy service and frequent outages and slow connection speeds, coupled with snarky and unhelpful representatives in virtually every store front they use for customer service, further solidifies that being the only ones offering their "service" to a captive audience means they have no inclination to fix or improve their "service". Thankfully, a recent change has allowed limited competition (as of this writing, one company), to run fiber internet through my "older" neighborhood. Recently, they lost my payment and then demanded I pay the alleged "past due amount" with the next bill. After calling customer service to fill out some from, they said it will take 10-12 days to research where they "mis-applied" (their word) my payment, at which time they will do away with the $10 late fee, bring my payments back to ontime and then they will credit my account for the overpayment they are asking for, seriously. I was also told by their representative that their confirmation number of the payment was not going to help them locate the payment. I will be looking at this new service provider so I can then rejoin the 2000 teen era of internet service, possibly with a company that doesn't "mis-apply" a payment made through the link they provide to pay said bill. read more

Customer service is hit or miss. One call or visit may get you kindness to resolve issues. They next complete opposite. Today for example the person spoke over me constantly and belittled me. When a tech came, he seemed hungover saying something about not wanting to be working. My router was unplugged (as I wasn't home using it). He said "how do you expect it to work if it's not plugged in" (in a very rude tone). And the automated system never works. Internet is constantly going out. The magic fix all is to unplug they say. I worked in networking and this is an issue on their end not with a router. Whether it be updates, etc. Once they determined they gave me a faulty modem. Today I found they cap usage. I never heard of this for home use! She compared their service to using my cell. Suddenlink home service is NOT the same as someone using a cellular data plan! It is their way of combatting people streaming (Netflix, Hulu, etc) in lieu of purchasing their cable stations. It's all about a sale. When my internet is not working and I call...each time they ask me to pay more for faster internet. Why in the world would I want to pay for faster internet when my basic internet doesn't even work?!? SADLY though, it is the only provider this town has to offer. This is the ABSOLUTE worst cable service we have ever had. It's crazy just how bad it is.

I have had nothing but trouble with Sudden-link. I cancelled my Cable TV and "free" phone service and kept only the internet service a few months ago. I returned all of the equipment that the service agent told me I needed to return. I kept seeing a $130.00 equipment charge on my bill and I called the toll free number twice a week every week to see if anyone could tell me why this was on my bill when I had turned in all of the equipment I was told to return. Every time I called I was told a different story. Finally, a rep told me that I had a piece of equipment for the phone attached to my router/modem so I drove home during my lunch hour but couldn't find anything. Then they told me it could be in the attic so I walked around the attic but didn't see anything like the equipment they described. Long story short and 10 phone calls later I've discovered that the representatives at Sudden-link appear to be incapable of cognizant thought and become completely lost if a conversation does not follow their printed script. You are forbidden to speak with a manager unless an "escalation" ticket is submitted and then you must wait for THEM to call YOU. Unfortunately, they never call you and when you call back, they tell you that something went wrong and the ticket was not submitted. They keep you on the hook until it is one day past your monthly subscription date meaning that you have to pay for another month of service even if you cancel immediately. They can't tell me who installed this mystery equipment, where it was installed, or why it wasn't on the original list of items for me to return. They simply want $130.00 because their computer system says I have it. The only reason I am giving them 1 star is because it is the minimum you can give to post the review. It boggles my mind that a company would lose a customer over $130 one time charge for a piece of equipment that is of absolutely NO use to the customer (and can't be proven that the customer ever had the equipment) when that customer pays almost $100 per month for their service. read more

If you can go with anyone other than Suddenlink, you should! The signal is often slow and intermittent and is definitely not what they promise. I was just on the phone with their call center about my bill going up by $25, without notice, and the lady on the phone had the lack of perception and understanding to try and up-sell me to add home phone for $10 more a month. Seriously? I'm calling because I'm upset about how high my bill is and you are really going to ask if I want to add another one of your services to my bill? No, I do not! Where to begin. I will start with the positives. Well, the ONE positive. The customer support, specifically the interpersonal communication between service representatives and technicians, was extremely cordial. However, through the many interactions I had with both representatives and technicians, it became abundantly clear that the large majority of them had very little knowledge about the product Suddenlink offers. On multiple occasions, I have had technicians come and "fix" our wireless issues, only to have it go out within a week, and in some cases, actually leave it worse off than it was before! Yes, the technicians are poorly trained (and I have heard that the majority are actually just contracted by Suddenlink), but the main issue is the awful product itself. I live in a town where Suddenlink is my only choice of ISP. Although this has no bearing on the quality of product, I find it amusing that they continue to run commercials stating, "We know you have a choice, so thanks for choosing Suddenlink!" Well, we don't have a choice, and the one choice we do have (Suddenlink) is atrocious. When our internet does work, it is sub par. The prices are somewhat reasonable, but you get what you pay for. They will come to your home, install your modem/router for a minimal fee, and then you're on your way to the worst internet service you have ever received in your life. The Internet is spotty and best, and everywhere I've been (I have lived in 3 different places that have had Suddenlink) I am constantly be plagued with bandwidth issues, wireless connectivity problems, and most importantly, AWFUL hardware. The hardware they give you (primarily Arris and Hitron Technologies router and modems) are often refurbished and of extremely poor quality. The technicians will come to your house, pretend they know why your internet connection sucks, and simply say "oh it's just the router having some issues. This new one will fix everything!" I quickly found out that, yes, it was the router, but it was ALL of their routers. They will keep giving you low-quality modems and routers until you buy your own. I did this, and immediately had better connection, although it was still very poor. I have rambled on far too long. TL;DR: Suddenlink is THE worst internet service provider out there. If you have a choice (I don't), stay away from this service at all costs. read more

Worst Customer Service ever. Had a rent house in College STation where my son and his friends lived. Upon their graduation, we moved them out and one of the boys returned the cable box. There was a long line and one of the staff people told him to leave the box in a Return box in the lobby, which he did and left. No receipt. Now SL is dunning me $100.00 for the box. I have called every month since May when we turned it in, to no avail. They say they are checking the warehouse but can't find it, and with no receipt, there will be no refund. REALLY?? read more

My mother moved from out of state this past weekend and we arranged to have suddenlink install internet only at her home. We scheduled an install on Sunday afternoon and the tech was here about 20 min and left telling us it was connected and ready to go. Thursday we get her computer hooked up and there is no service. Call the local number and are on hold for over 30 min, they can't figure out why it's not working so they agree to send another tech out this morning. He arrives and tells us the line was never connected and he will need to run a new line. He goes up in the attic and comes back saying he can't run it because it's too tight of an attic space and he doesn't have the time to do it he has another job waiting and he's already been here an hour and half. I'm about to call when he says he will call the dispatch and see what tech they can send out to do the job. He comes back in suddenly he's up in the attic dropping a line. He doesn't have a flashlight so he used ours and is very rude and not professional at all. If we had any other choices for Internet we would switch! I wish you could do zero stars! We have had a lot of problems with suddenlink through out the year. It has mainly been with our internet not working. We did a speed test to see if we were getting what we paid for. Lo and behold we are getting about 14 Mb/s and we pay for 50Mb/s. That's $80/month and we are not receiving what we pay for. I just feel so ripped off and disappointed. Buyer Beware!!! Whatever you do do not order Suddenlink. Customer Service is horrible, internet not worth the money. Too many departments that do not sync with each other. I wanted to give Suddenlink the benefit of the doubt due to me working in customer service myself. At this point they have failed to provide a minimal level of customer service to me. I have a laundry list of issues spanning over the last 6 months. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Suddenlink turned off my cable service prematurely the week of Thanksgiving 2017 and made matters worse by promising to send a technician out to resolve and the Tech never showed. I called a supervisor next day and he promised to send someone and once again the tech never showed. I called back the next day and had to explain all this confusion to at least 3 reps before getting to another Supposed supervisor. He decided to credit my bill as a way of resolving the issue. Once i get my next statement I find out that my promised credits was short. I spent at least 2.5 hours on the phone with several reps and at least a additional 40 minutes speaking with Sup. I purchased my own modem to further reduce their overpriced internet service and they did not credit my bill correctly so I had to call back again. Spoke with another rep that provided me with nothing but more confusion. The last thing you wanna do when you speak to a rep is ask to speak with a Supervisor. They do not resolve issues, they pacify you long enough to get you so frustrated that you give up trying to explain things. They (REP & Sups) put you on hold foreeeever. I have not mentioned all my issues but this should be enough to steer any new customer away. Buyer Beware. I never do negative reviews but this one was needed. If you have choices in going with a different cable or internet provider please do so. I don't care about the money part of it as much as the service part. They have received way to much of my time trying to resolve issues that I never caused. Totally unacceptable. If a negative star could selected that is what i would select. Worst service EVER. It has cut out on 24 at least three times this season. You do not miss chunks of minutes on 24. Other programs just simply are not available as advertised. I do not understand how these people stay in business. They must be in bed with someone on city council. I really hate this so-called service. I also disagree with the previous poster. I made a Yelp account just to post about how complete garbage this company is, and it has a monopoly in the B/CS area. The biggest problem to me is that they have an obvious bandwidth cap for their nodes so that during peak usage hours (generally evening Th/Fr/Sat) when everyone is on their internet I experience CONSTANT disconnects. The first time I brought the issue up to them they blamed it on the router and modem. I've had both of them replaced brand new and the exact same problem persists. While playing online games I often have to switch to my phone as a wifi hotspot and use my phone data, making Suddenlink effectively a void service that I am paying for. As I am writing this it is Wednesday and there are a ton of families that have come into town for TAMU graduations/moving etc. I don't usually experience a bunch of disconnects Wednesday night but I am now. I have gotten 6 or 7 disconnects within the past hour tonight which indicates that it is due to the increased load on their nodes from the much larger amount of people in town currently. This company is pure trash. I cannot wait to get out to California for my internship this summer and have a different internet company. Will suck when I come back in the Fall though. I wonder if it's somehow possible to get a class-action lawsuit against this company for failing to provide a reliable service. read more

Need service from Suddenlink? Ha! be prepared to waste a lot of time chasing it down! Suddenlink makes it really tedious and difficult to get a person on the phone to help with whatever you might need. When my phone service was suddenly interrupted I started the process by calling, selecting a choice and finally agreeing to wait 20 minutes for someone to call back. Of the 17 or 18 times I did this over 2 months time, only once did someone call back earlier than predicted. I got to know lots of technicians. I unplugged and replugged equipment until I was afraid my plugs would wear out. 2 separate "equipment checkers" came to my residence (not wearing masks even though I requested this). They replaced my modem, then put it back. I had no dial tone, then I had dial tone but no one could call in. Discovered I had been given a new number, surprise! Then went to no dial tone again, new equipment tech, multiple phone calls and after a 2 month hiatus, I finally got my phone number and my line in working order. FRUSTRATING, yes. Great service N.O. NO!!! Maddening because they do not mind jacking up their fees every few months. "to enhance service" I wish they would buy the equipment technicians some new clothes. They need to work in clean neat clothes but I guess dirty and sloppy represents their company just fine. read more

I'm a military veteran that recently retired with an honorable discharge. I was employed by the Navy as an Information Systems Technician. I was stationed three years at one of the largest internet providing commands for the military. With that said, I have never met such terrible customer support or Internet service. I've been all over the United states, from Pensacola, Florida to San Diego, California and this internet provider is the worst I have ever seen. I've been analyzing the connection and realized that I have hit a record for dropped packets. I believe HughsNet has a better connection in a lighting storm. As for the customer support, if i use my minutes to call you and go over an issue, do not hang up on me or put me on hold to see how much patience I have. Do NOT get Suddenlink as your provider. The only reason I continue to use them is due to the fact they are the only company that offers WiFi in College Station. Tonight, I needed the WiFi that I pay for in my one house and rely on to work on my homework's, and online quizzes and tests decided to go in and out for 7 hours. Not really sure why since my roommates and I pay for the ability to have UNLIMITED data on our WiFi. Also when you try calling customer support they ask for the 10 digit phone number associated with your account (however my roommates parents signed us up so our accounted is associated with that number) that's all and dandy now that I asked and received that phone number, Suddenlink now asks for the SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER associated with the account! They make it virtually impossible for college student in a COLLEGE TOWN to receive customer support when you are in dire need of it. I pay for WiFi in my own house for the convenience of not having to go to the library for every assignment due. Fix your shit Suddenlink, you've gotten better in the past couple years but you are still far far worse than other companies and because of this overall experience in College Station I will NEVER use Suddenlink again if I can choose. Terrible automated system via phone as well as an internet site that rarely doesn't have an error requiring you to call. Payments are scheduled two weeks out and if there is a change in method of payment, you will not be alerted that the payment has been sent back, incurring late fees. If you try to manually make a payment, the balance will be $0 and will not let you (if on auto-pay). They are not allowed to email or mail you correspondence in time alerting you of late fees because "it could compromise your information". Overall a terrible customer support company. read more

I was paying $83 and now went up to $101 just for internet. If you get in now with them. You pay $70 for better service then what I have now. They wont lower my bill. Recently we had high winds in our area. A tree limb broke off a tree and pulled down my drop to my home. I have tv, internet and phone with Suddenlink. I also have an implanted defibrillator with a monitoring deice attached to my land line. I called customer service and a nice lady tried to help me with an appointment to get reconnected. It was for the next day (11/27/2017). The young man was late and when he arrived, he was a tech not a lineman. He did however try to help by putting the line temporarily up to the pole. He claimed a lineman would be right out. I called customer service again and talked to a nice man. He once again scheduled an appointment and claimed I would be getting a scheduling call immediately. This was 2 in the afternoon. At 6 I called back and learned that my appointment was Dec, 3 between 8 and 5. The problem is the cable is so low I cannot get my car out of the garage unless I tear the cable down again. I called customer service once more and explained my situation. I pay over 220.00 per month for these services. The last gentleman suggested that I take it or leave it. I've tried the main office, phone rang no answer. I tried to get a supervisor, said had to wait for call back. Still waiting. This is absolutely the worst company to do business with. I am so glad I am a VIP Customer. I can't imagine how they treat non-VIPS. My advice, choose anyone other than Suddenlink. read more

I am having billing issues! I was quoted a price, but when I got my bill it was nearly twice the quoted amount! I have tried calling to get things straightened out, but I've had no success. They play the "blame game", they put me on hold, and they transfer me to other people. And it seems that no 2 people have the same price list. I tried going to the Bryan office, to see if I would get better service if they could see me. No luck! I was told that the person who could help me, was not in the office at that time (why only have 1 person who can do this?). The customer service rep took my cell number (on a scratch sheet of paper) . I told her that I had left my number before, but no one has gotten back to me. She told me that it can not be helped that no one got back to me. I have tried using the telephone, email, and going in person and I still have not been helped. I would hate to leave Suddenlink (I have been a customer for 2 years), but I feel that my business is no longer valued. Internet works fine, most of the time. Cable TV has been a pain to get set up. After two weeks and five appointments they finally replaced my new TiVo for one that actually gets HD channels. Suddenlink is a joke. Today alone I have reset our router twice and have had access to the internet for maybe two hours total (not consecutively) today. As a college student, this is unacceptable. The fact that my ability to work on homework is impeded by my internet provider is ridiculous. I have been sitting on my couch, with the router ten feet away, refreshing the webpage for over an hour, just to submit one assignment. My roommates and I will be switching internet providers as soon as possible. As it is, we're paying for services (cable) that we don't get, want, or need. If you drive there to stand in line ... a long time every time I go, no matter how early ... I got pretty good service. Site visits from repairmen have been successful but lengthy interruptions. Asking for help via phone/email/chat is really NOT the way to go, e.g. 1. I am reading letter that says free upgrade to 200Mbps internet service, just unplug modem, replug hooray. 2. Speedtest says noooo, less than 100Mbps, as usual 3. Send them a message via their website if they could check into this, even jiggle my modem from their end (SOP for them in past) 4. No jiggle, just email reply to unplug everything direct connections, et al. 5. Replied - did that several times 6. Again with the textbook instructions 7. More conversations, now looking at one year old router as limiting throughput 8. Buy new, install modem, same poor results 9. With this news, someone finally discovers my modem is only half the power required to serve 200Mbps, even though paying for it 10. Offers to rent me one, free upon drive over stand in line to pick it up, self install 11. Aside: outside help only offered CAT6 substitutes for CAT5e for these 4ft long runs (~same speed), thanks anyway read more

(Only gave 1 star because I couldn't give 0) I am a senior Mechatronics major at Texas A&M University living with three other college students, meaning technology is all I work with for school. We have now been using Suddenlink for three years, living in the same house, not messing with the box much and we haven't faced many problems until now besides them trying to upcharge us each year for no reason. Coming back for the fall 2020 semester, we heavily rely on the internet to be working and available throughout the house, that is what we pay for. For the first two months of the semester, all zoom calls were being dropped and no one could get any service in the house unless we were right next to the box or using our own hotspots. This allowed for MANY calls to Suddenlink, trying to fix the problem and constantly restarting the box with no fix to the problem. Finally a technician comes out to the house and messing with some cables outside, said the problem was fixed and left. A few weeks pass and we get our bill, charging us extra for the service call when we were told we wouldn't be charged unless it was damaged caused by us to the box, and all we get told by the COMPANY (not the technician) is that the technician had to secure ONE loose cord and now we own $60 extra and the problem was NOT fixed. Please tell me how this makes sense. I almost got into serious academic trouble because the internet dropped during one of my exams and the Lockdown Brower I had to use flagged my exam as highly suspicious.
