The level of knowledge about lenses and frames across scores of brands you'll run into at OU is seriously unparalleled--I learned more about sunglasses in ten unpressured minutes than I have in my entire SG-wearing life after walking into this unlikely spot that's not nearly as far away as you think. The owner here has over 20 years in the biz, and it shows--and not only that, Customer Service is a term that actually means something here. (Free adjustments for life? Yup.) After trying on a pair of Chrome Hearts that I really wanted but then remembered that I'm not actually a rock star, I found my way back to a pair of old standby Rayban Aviators--but even these were updated in OU's selection with a specially-tinted lens that I haven't seen anywhere else. And the price beat everywhere I've looked so far, too, even the (legit) shops on Venice boardwalk. One of the toughest things for me is actually picking a pair of shades that look good on my face, and points again here to the friendly Russian for alighting the path. What can I say that hasn't already been said by the other reviewers. These guys went above and beyond than what I had expected. The Story: I've been shopping for a particular Ray Ban frame that I saw at Lenscrafter. Unfortunately they wanted close to 185 just for the frame and almost 300 for lenses. Started calling and checking other stores. Went to Lord of Optic (Check out that review for details) and the lady there tried to insist that I either got the color code/model number wrong or it's been discontinued simply because it didn't show up on their universal site/catalog. Called few places and they would tell me they don't have it nor is it available to order. Called this place and was greeted by Jessica. Told her what I was looking for. She put me on hold and told me that they have the same style but not the particular color that I was looking for. She also told me that the particular color is not listed in their catalog. I thought that was it. It's at this point where Optical Universe sets itself apart from the other place I've called and been to. She took down my name and number and told me she's going to call Ray Ban to look into it some more. Bc I'm impatient, I called her back in 30 minutes. She told me that the color I'm looking for is an Italian color and they would need to special order it, which is why it does not show up in the catalog/site. What's even more surprising is that it will only cost me $140 for the frame. Went in that day and was greeted by the owner. For the most part, from the initial phone call to receiving my glasses, Jessica was the one who helped me. The few times Slava helped me, he too was courteous and very easygoing. They were very patient and answered all my questions. When I received the glasses (8 days later) and had the prescription put in, they hooked me up with the lenses. The other morning at work, I took out my glasses and prepared to start my day when the right lens fell out of my glasses. Upon closer inspection I noticed a tiny screw had fallen out, but I could not locate it. I looked for a place online close to my home that repaired glasses and found Optical Universe. I walked in and was greeted by the owner and what appeared to be his mother. I showed him my glasses, and he asked if I had the screw which I said no. He said no problem and whisked into the back to fix the lens. A few minutes later he returned with my glasses fixed. He even tightened all the other screws fixing the looseness in my frame which I didn't even mention and cleaned my lenses. The glasses were as good as new. I asked what the damage was and he said no charge! Even after I tried to insist he take some money, he refused saying it was no bother. I have little or no fashion sense, but Slava and his staff were very helpful by pulling out a selection of frames to suit my face. After that it was a simple process of elimination. No hard sell. I came in here with my fiancé after she had just picked up a bridesmaids dress (for a different wedding) next door. We'd planned on going to the usual mall establishment (sunglasses hut, etc) but spotted this place in the same strip mall, so why not!? We were immediately and graciously greeted by Slava, the owner or at least a guy who knows what he is talking about. He was super nice and personable while we shopped around and looked at various styles, even giving his honest opinion on what he thought worked and didn't work on us. We ended up buying two pairs of Ray Ban Wayfarers, and he was nice enough to tell us about the special discount for Yelp customers. Note that this review was NOT required, all you need to do is check in, I just felt the need to spread the love. Slava gave us 15% off and we felt great about the entire experience. This was a nice change compared to the normal sunglasses shop where I feel like I'm being accosted by car salesmen the entire time. I had been wearing contacts for about 5 years because i could never find good frames that i liked. it began to really wear on my eyes, obviously, so i decided i needed to find some frames and get back into wearing glasses. The Most PROFESSIONAL Optical eye-glass store I've ever patronized. First and foremost, Slava (owner who is always there), knows his profession. He also knows ophthalmologists. He's been in business for a long time, truly cares about his clients and has zillions of repeat clients. We are one of them. We purchased a pair of glasses for my husband and was given 100 percent attention. When he had a problem, he returned and Slava fixed it. I needed glasses and was frustrated with all of the salespeople at malls who have little to no knowledge of eye care. I went to Optical Universe and Slava explained differences in lens, perscriptions and what my options were. This was not about selecting a pair of frames, this was about the health of my eyes, which is really important to me. I ordered a pair of glasses....a week later I returned to pick them up. Once again, Slava gave me his undivided attention. He explained how to wear them, and how to clean them. This place is not cheap - but my eyes are extremely important to me. This place is amazing. I needed to find a place to get prescription lenses installed in two frames and Yelpers led me to Slava (the owner.) His shop is neat and clean, and he cuts and fits all his lenses at the shop. Slava is also the most knowledgeable optician I have ever met. I learned more about lenses and coatings than I ever knew before. He carefully explains all the different options to you and lets you know the pros and cons of each without pressuring you into picking one or the other. His customer service is unparalleled as well. From the moment you walk in the door to the moment you walk out with your perfectly fitted frames, you feel as if you have known Slava forever! There is none of that pretentious BS that you get at other shops that sell the similar quality lenses and frames. As if all of that wasnt good enough, his prices are unbeatable.
