I was going to a fancy Santa Monica eye clinic and they completely screwed up my prescription three times in a row... so I met Slava and Marduk at Optical Universe and they got my prescription right the very first time! Then I need a second pair of glasses and that set was even better! I couldn't be happier! My prescription is very tricky because it's a tri-focal length prescription that is extremely critical to my work. I managed to sit on my own glasses, right before heading out to work 70 miles from home. Thankfully they were good quality titanium frames and didn't break, but they were mangled enough that it was extremely distracting between them pulling to one side, and the focal point being totally askew in one eye. When I was able to step away, I looked on Yelp and found this place less than a mile away from our location. I called this place and explained what I had done to try my best to destroy my glasses. The very nice man told me that there was a chance they would break when being adjusted, and I replied that it was a far lower chance than me trying to "fix" them yet again because that was definitely not working out well. I arrived a few minutes later, and this awesome kind human managed to straighten my glasses in just a few minutes, and I went happily on my way without funky depth perception issues. Came in today with my boyfriend when the shop had just opened, to find the right pair of Cartier frames for my boyfriend. I have to say this was an amazing experience. The 2 gentleman there were very welcoming and kind men. They were very helpful to us to find the perfect fit frames. I called many many places and was asking around for the new Gen 8 Signature colors for transitions. I called over 10 places which each place told me "no we can't do that" we only can do grey, brown. I was loosing hope because I really wanted the amethyst color and was wondering who can make these happen for me. I can't say enough about Slava. He knows his craft well and has a very pleasant personality. He gives you plenty of time to decide on your frames without making you feel rushed..... he's very thorough during the process to make sure you are happy. I'm trying progressive lenses for the first time so I can't quite give my opinion yet as it's a bit of an adjustment. He warned me it would be. Hopefully, my brain will adapt to these quickly. I googled eyeglass places last year. I came across great reviews for this place. I called and spoke to the owner, Slava. I told him my problems and concerns about my vision and driving. I really like the way Slava does business. I told him the style of glasses I like and he brought out different frames for me to decide which I liked best. Of course I chose the best. Cartier frames, very expensive but I had received money and was going to treat myself. It was if Slava could read my mind and told me that if my prescription changed he could replace the lenses only and not the frames. Many places do not do that. Well one year later I'm back to see Slava. My eyes changed drastically and I am replacing the lenses only. He also asked me if I had an extra frame at home and he would replace lenses so I had a back up pair. Slava would not sell me new frames because he said mine were cuter than his. He hooked me up with a nice pair of progressive lenses for $200 in two days. I highly recommend Slava business Optical Universe. read more

The level of knowledge about lenses and frames across scores of brands you'll run into at OU is seriously unparalleled--I learned more about sunglasses in ten unpressured minutes than I have in my entire SG-wearing life after walking into this unlikely spot that's not nearly as far away as you think. The owner here has over 20 years in the biz, and it shows--and not only that, Customer Service is a term that actually means something here. (Free adjustments for life? Yup.) After trying on a pair of Chrome Hearts that I really wanted but then remembered that I'm not actually a rock star, I found my way back to a pair of old standby Rayban Aviators--but even these were updated in OU's selection with a specially-tinted lens that I haven't seen anywhere else. And the price beat everywhere I've looked so far, too, even the (legit) shops on Venice boardwalk. One of the toughest things for me is actually picking a pair of shades that look good on my face, and points again here to the friendly Russian for alighting the path.
