Still my favorite pizza spot in Bushwick! I've tried a few other dishes and none of them have disappointed me. My favorite is the margarita pie and their square pie. The square pie is a bit more filling but still just as good! Their wine is also one of a kind, a must try for sure. read more

Didn't try too much so it's difficult to give a comprehensive review, but what we did eat was really delicious. We were seated quickly but the restaurant was busy. It's a really beautiful space, great wooden benches, cool wood paneling on the ceiling. We had the margarita pizza ($16) with mushrooms (+$2). The pizza was a manageable size (a hungry person could finish one off solo no problem), but it was really delicious. Excellent tomato sauce and balance of mozzarella and basil, but the soft chewy dough was the standout. Also had the antipasti ($13) which was beets (beets on all the menus these days but I'm not complaining) and potatoes. It was solid. read more

Go here instead of Roberta's. Look, I love Roberta's, but the wait's just unmanageable unless you go on a weekday afternoon. Ops takes that style of pizza and provides it in a timely fashion. But there's more to it than that. The small restaurant is outfitted with a decor that feels homey by day and intimate by night. There are creative pizza creations - granted, not as out-there as Roberta's - with both traditional and unusual ingredients. Appetizer plates are delectable, and there's always a well-curated selection of craft beers and cocktails. read more

Pizza is good but awful experience. Waited over an hour for a pizza and calzone after being told it takes 30 minutes. Had a 9:30 reservation and after waiting at the restaurant for twenty minutes they said there was only enough dough for one pizza... then said that there was enough dough for more? Also, noticed they added an item on the bill that we didn't order and had to get it corrected. Won't come back. read more

The food was 5 stars and the service was 4 Stars. The star drop is the result of a less than stellar waitress who rather than offer suggestions on what pizzas were more popular or even offer her own opinions on them told me she "doesn't answer that question." All the other waitstaff were awesome and the food was incredible. The ingredients are so fresh, the dough so chewy, the temperature so perfect. And the wine list is also excellent. We ordered the Litrozzo rose but I suspect any bottle you order is perfectly suited for any of that pizzas. The prices are really reasonable too! If you're looking for a cute spot to dine with friends over pizza and wine, this is the place. Just be careful who you ask for advice. read more

When I first heard there was real Italian style pizza here, I snorted. You see my grandmother is a real Italian who grew up in the Bronx. Every Sunday morning she would wake up and make her special dough, not letting it out of the fridge until it was proofed; sometimes we didn't eat until midnight. Her sauce tasted like an afternoon under the warm Tuscan sun. We'd call her, "Nani muzzarel", because of the stink of cheese she wore, hand pulling it every Sunday nude in the kitchen. You couldn't get a more creamy flavor if you sucked it out of the cow! So when I arrived at OPS I expected just another flavor of disappointment. As I sat at the bar I watched as the bearded hipsters carefully worked their tattooed hands across the pizza, repeatedly forming a pentagram as they rolled out the dough. I felt the power of Satan before me and I knew that these were real spicy Italian pizza boys. The wine selection was stellar, even stocking my favorite Beaujolais by the glass, clos de roillete(sp); a taste I acquired while studying abroad in the west village. The pizza was perfect. Lightly crisp dough with a perfect chew, just so slightly charred, and an ideal but generous ratio of cheese to sauce. The best part is you don't have to tip, as the waiters are actually interns working towards futures in soppressata. Come here, taste bay ridge, call your grandmother. read more

Super yummy. Must order the Calzone. The restaurant has a really cool look and feel to it. Make sure to buy a loaf of bread to take home. read more

Guys.. Roberta's finally has competition. Actually.. Roberta's is in second place. Margherita with sausage. The End.

Very nice outdoor area. Staff friendly and attentive. Got the Margherita, Juno, and square slice. Pizza was decent, nice char, a little thin on the crust. Not at the level of Roberta's or Paulie Gee's, but good if you're in the neighborhood. read more

The food here is undeniably delicious, which is why I give this place 4 stars. If it were just based upon the service and staff, I would probably only rate this place 3 stars. I came here with my mom when she was visiting (which is probably the only time I would come here since the prices are a bit steep) and we had to wait very long to get seated. We saw multiple other parties getting frustrated with this wait as well. We finally were seated at a teeny tiny table where 3 of us had to awkwardly squeeze in. There was no room on the table for our drinks, yet alone our pizza. Luckily, there was a ledge behind the seats where I could put my water and cocktails on.. But yeah, despite the prices and the wait staff not being great, I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some bomb pizza (s/o to Josiah)! read more

Hands down some of the best pizza and wine in New York. The vibe and friendly staff are the cherry on top. An absolute gem in the area.

I ordered a calzone to go. It was really good and I will come back for more. The calzone was definitely more upscale than you would get most places. read more

I've been here just once so far and was very pleasantly surprised. Ops makes some the best pizzas I've had in the city. Their crust is extremely airy and tender and delicate ... closer to a true Neapolitan pizza than crusts from many of the Brooklyn-style neo-Neapolitan pizza shops, who aim for a bit more NYC-style robustness. But Ops doesn't go too far in the traditionalist direction. You can eat at a casual pace without the middle of the pie soaking through, and you don't have to eat with a knife and fork (like the rabbid Naples traditionalists would insist (I refuse (but Ops gives you knife and fork just in case you're a weirdo like that))). I'm a bit of a pizza nerd, so always spend some time deconstructing the crust. I found the Ops crust both delicate and flavorful, but assumed they were not using a natural (sourdough) leaven. The bread doesn't have quite the full flavor and tang that I remember from Roberta's, which has the most flavorful crust I've tried. But I was wrong here; Ops claims to use natural leaven. It's perhaps their choice to go for delicacy over big sourdough flavor, which is more in keeping with tradition. We had a Margherita pie and Pops (onions, guanciale, and tomato sauce). The Pops was brilliant. The Margherita was good, but suffered a bit from the flavors in the tomato sauce being out of balance. It was a bit too salty for my partner, and we both found it much too acidic--with acid notes crossing over into metalic flavors. No idea if this is typical or just an off night for the sauce. But sauce is way easier than crust to fix, so I doubt this will be an ongoing problem. The issue was only noticeable on the margherita, which didn't have the fat or other flavors to counter the acid. Ironically, Ops puts its tomato cans on proud display, not just lining shelves above the bar, bot on each table to serve as a plinth for your pizza. The interior at Ops is beautifully designed, and even when it got crowded the acoustics weren't punishing. I'm not sure if they deliver; I'd be a bit worried about the delicate crust holding up to even a 10 minute bike ride. This strikes me as pizza that you want to gobble straight from the oven. read more

Ops is a quaint and rustic sit-down pizza place in Bushwick. It can be fairly difficult to get a table on the weekends during popular dinner times. Since the restaurant does not take reservations, I would call before going to see how long the wait is. If you're not super hungry, one pizza will feed two people with no problem. My friend and I shared the Square Pie and it was more than enough food for the two of us. I thought the pizza was good, but not the best that I've ever had. Gratuity is included, so you don't have to worry about tipping at the end of the meal. I think because gratuity is included, the restaurant hasn't figured out a system of assigning servers to tables. We had 3 different servers come to our table to ask to take our order, which was a little odd. read more

I do not understand all the amazing reviews. Yes, the space is lovely. The staff was nice. The menu is limited. The pizza was just OK. We shared the square pie and added sausage. I couldn't even taste the sausage. All I could taste was the parmesan covering the pie. It really took away from the taste. The drinks were good but $14 for a small glass of wine? That's ridiculous. Not sure where everyone else works that can afford those prices. read more

Amazing pizza, great wine and intimate atmosphere, but AWFUL service. We were a bigger group with a reservation and the waitress gave us an attitude from the moment we set foot in the restaurant. She wouldn't sit us at the table we'd reserved, or bring us an extra chair and was just rude throughout the evening. She totally ruined our experience and made me want to run back to Roberta's! Shame because the other waitstaff were awesome and everything we ordered was good. read more

I ordered a pick up and I asked for extra Oregano to the girl at the front and she didn't. What a cheap place to eat! Never again....

I feel like my four is generous. I'm missing something that the rest of the critical community sees apparently; I just can't fathom this being the best pizza on offer in Brooklyn. Sure, it's decent (and the square is pretty damn near perfection) but the overall - it's not there. Among pizza, we tried the Juno and the Square. The square was closer to a revelation - for a brief moment, I felt in touch with the pizza gods and understood the hype. The Juno - with more of the sourdough quality of the crust on display, and some of the topping creativity - was totally adequate but effectively unmemorable. Unlikely to be a pizza that haunts my dreams, to steal Adam Kuban's memorable phrase. On the whole, I'll remember the joint, but I won't long for it the way I think about Emily (or at least, what Emily in Clinton Hill was five years ago), the way I can picture my first bite of L&B on a warm summer evening on their 90s-style thermoplastic picnic furniture, the first bite of DiFara on a Saturday afternoon (even though I think it was the biggest disappointment I've had), the scamorza on the pie at Juliana's with Patsy Grimaldi himself at the spot. Those are Brooklyn pizzas; I'm disappointed to see Eater and Infatuation and others proclaim this as the champion of the new era. If that's the case, perhaps we are all Neapolitans now. If so, Brooklyn pizza is dead. Long live Brooklyn pizza. read more

My friends and I decided to try Ops out for all of our first times for a Sunday dinner. We were seated right away in a cozy area towards the back. Their set up is very intimate and cozy with most of the tables closely put together, so large groups may be a little difficult here. We also noticed it was extremely toasty inside, not sure if it was a combo of the heat and the open oven or what, but the tiled floors were even slippery from it being steamy. Their menu is pretty small, and I also mean this literally. It's already placed on the table and at first I would've thought it was the drink menu. One side lists their cocktail and beer options while the other side has the apps and pizza options. We were sold on trying out the square pie based on the pics, but it turned out to be a lot smaller than we expected. We were all able to get 2 slices but they were just about the size of a hand, so we didn't get terribly full. Their tomato sauce was a little more on the tangy side, which isn't my favorite, but everything else tasted fine. We also ordered a salad which also had a tangy vinaigrette with some pomegranates and mandarin slices - this was refreshing and light which I enjoyed. The price seems a little steeper, especially for a local bushwick spot, but it makes up for it bc they do the whole no-tip method. The service was quick so we were in and out of there fairly fast. Overall, had a nice meal but the square pie unfortunately won't be pulling me back the next time I'm craving pizza. read more

Don't underestimate the teeny tiny menu at this local spot. With pizzas and other tasty bites, Ops dishes out some wonderful food and even better wine - which is only available by verbal menu. Wonderful pizza experience. The wine tasting, the service, the overall space and vibe are so enjoyable. Ops is hands down our favorite neighborhood establishment. The pizza is ALWAYS incredible-- the square pie is our highlight, though we also enjoy their specialty pies. It's obvious that their dough recipe, ingredient quality and dedication to to the craft are taken super seriously at Ops. Pizza is pizza, but Ops pizza is leagues above the competition. Biting into that square pie just transitions my brain into a pure state of euphoria. I love the cocktail and beer selections (there's always a sour on draft!) And the staff is incredibly friendly. My girlfriend I come so often that our hostess often knows us and welcomes us back each time. She even goes out of her way to set us in a nice spot and ask if we want some of our favorites. The service is impeccable-- and did I mention that there is no tipping?! Ops is living proof that amazing customer service does not depend on the tipping model. We've lived in Bushwick for five years and Fritz's used to be our #1 weeknight date spot, but with it's demise Ops as stepped up to fill that void. Keep it up Ops and we will be back every week or two from here until forever! read more

We took my in-laws here for dinner last night and they said it was the best pizza they'd ever eaten. We got the Iron Age and a square pie and they were both delicious. The people working there are friendly and it has a nice atmosphere. The décor is tasteful and in keeping with the Bushwick restaurant/bar aesthetic (reclaimed wood, exposed brick, eclectic tiling), there's no loud music to contend with, and it has nice light. It's a good place for a date or to take your parents who are visiting from out of town. Plus the tip is included in the menu prices. We will definitely be coming here again! read more

Ops just opened around the corner from me and I'm already obsessed. From the homey decor to the incredibly pleasant and accommodating wait staff and most importantly, the short but far from simple menu and natural wine program, it's clear that this isn't the owners first rodeo. As soon as you walk in you'll feel at ease with the exposed brick walls and heat radiating from the beautiful mosaic tiled pizza oven. The restaurant isn't very big but it doesn't feel small with extra high ceilings and well spaced tables. I can envision people's biggest gripe with Ops being the lack of options and normally I'd agree with the complaint however a small menu does have it's perks. A more concise menu allows a new restaurant to focus on a couple items and do them well, while they work out all the kinks involved with a new venture. It also lends to a more farm to table vibe, allowing the chef to keep things fresh, rotating what's in season and available at the time. Personally, I don't mind a smaller menu if the items and preparations are constantly changing. We loved the antipasto which had squash, beans and mushrooms and the red radicchio salad was a perfectly fresh preface to some heavier pizza. I read that they use a wild yeast (akin to Sourdough) to make all the pizza crusts which is pretty freakin awesome. Besides being thin and crispy while also chewy, the crust had a ton of flavor which really took the pizza to the next level. We got 3 pies among the 4 of us which was perfect, opting for the Margherita (always gotta have a control group when doing an experiment), Pops and Rojo. I guess we are all big fans of the allium because the onion heavy Pops was the table favorite. The guanciale was subtle but still provided a welcome smokiness which blended nicely with the pecorino and onion. The peppers on the Rojo gave a necessary vinegar kick to balance out the meaty mortadella. Natural wines are the only kind served at Ops which is interesting but welcome. Some of us were quite new to natural wines so our excellent server gave us tastes of a few bottles to see which we would like best. She did the same with some after dinner drinks that we were interested in ordering. Very well informed and pleasant to deal with, we were all happy with the service here. The last thing that diners should note is that Ops has a Gratuity Free policy. Prices may seem higher here but that's because you're not adding 20% tip at the end. Personally, I am a fan of gratuity free restaurants but, regardless of how you feel about it, that's the policy here and something that you should remember when the bill comes. 4 stars for Ops. I will be back, hopefully for years to come. read more

Hands down best dough you'll find in NYC. Fluffy, slightly sour, did I say: fluffy, light, and chewy in just the right way. My wife and I stopped by in hopes of a grabbing a pie for an early dinner, based on a glowing review of the pizza from a friend. Unfortunately, we were greeted by a rude and unhelpful maitre'd who made no effort to squeeze us in--despite 4 open seats at the bar and 2 more at a window counter, all of which we were told were reserved. (Additionally, there were 3 open tables indoors plus 2 outdoors, but I'll take him at his word that he had to hold those open.) Suffice it to say that either the maitre'd lied to us about the availability of seats at the bar, or Ops is far from forthcoming about what "table" you're actually reserving online. Interesting practice indeed for a place whose website claims half the restaurant is reserved for walk-ins. All's well that ends well, at least: The maitre'd could revel in turning us away, and we happily ordered 2 pies from Decades in Ridgewood. Glad there's no shortage of good pizza nearby that we'll gratefully patronize going forward! read more

I live down the street and have never been here, in fact I've always avoided it because the vibe just seems obnoxious. However, my dad was visiting and I wanted to impress him with a nice atmosphere and some brick oven pizza. We sat at the bar because the wait for a table was almost two hours. Ordered a salad and a pizza. Two hours later, dad had finished the salad and I was still waiting for the pizza. I checked in as politely as a human being can to make sure the order didn't somehow get lost in the shuffle, I was assured it wasn't and that it would be out in 10-15 minutes. 20 minutes later, we're still seeing pizzas flying back and forth for people who had arrived later than we did. Nobody at all we talked to attempted to remedy the situation, we barely got a half-assed apology. We were seated near the door, which was wide open, no apparent heat source nearby. You'd think at this point someone would prioritize our situation considering we'd been dicked around for this long. After seeing 6 more pizzas get delivered to other patrons I asked if we could get the check because I was freezing and my dad was tired and we needed to leave. We didn't get comped a single thing, we paid for what we ate / drank and still left a full tip, and still got attitude about how "I have no control of the situation." One of the worst "dining" experiences both of us have ever had. Never again. read more
