We shared one of the small pies which is cut up into six slices (each is about two to four bites). We had the Mel B which has speck, ricotta, mozzarella, tomato sauce, and a Calabrian chili sauce. Dough is not your typical bar style. It was airy and doughier. Something I'd expect from a quality pizzeria. The cornicore had a crispy crust that reminded of the cheese sear from a pan that you typically get from Detroit style pies. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. A cute little spot with a yummy (albeit limited) food menu. We went in on a Monday around 6:30 and were able to grab a table right away. You order at the bar and there was no real "table service". What we ordered: my friends and I split the spinach artichoke dip and a Margherita pizza and the pizza which had peas on it. The dip was nothing to brag on, but the pizzas were delicious. It's a Tuesday evening, after 6 pm and the vibe was calm and refreshing. I really wanted to love this place because the ambiance is nice, but it's ridiculously overpriced, and the staff I've engaged with for years now are really condescending. For what it is - a small, burnt, pan pizza that could be replicated in an Ooni Oven easily - $20 for a small single-serve pizza is crazy. They have no idea how to make mixed drinks. Most of the staff and the owner especially are rude, entitled people, which doesn't help. They take forever to take your order, chatting behind the bar and rolling their eyes when you try to get their attention. When you ask how the system works, they act as though you should know already. They don't check on the tables, so expect to navigate their system on your own and be treated with disrespect while doing so. Not worth it. Get yourself a classic NY slice, not some gentrified bullshit. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn. I love the ambiance inside and usually hang indoors, but they also have plenty of outdoor seating as well. You do have to order at the bar. They have nice wines and typically 4 pizza options that seem to vary from time to time! Tried The Esters for the first time on a Thursday night in October. It took maybe 10 minutes to wait for a table to open up but while we waited we started talking to a couple who also had a dog with them. She gave ours treats and was very nice -- turns out she's the owner! It was a good sign to see the owner dining at their own restaurant. We got tow pizzas -- the Model T and the Yam it up. We were apprehensive about the yam pizza based on the ingredients but once we tried it, it was clear they knew exactly what they were doing. Both were amazing. The have a pretty extensive drink list and a versatile non-alcoholic drink list, which not many places have. Another nice touch is that the pizza came out on a little rack, so they didn't become soaked in grease while you ate. We've found our new neighborhood spot! read more

While I may miss getting amazing pizza delivered by bike by the awesome and friendly nyc pizza girl, this more than makes up for it! Cool atmosphere, full bar service with a focus on wine, and, oh, did I mention amazing pizza? Square style pizza that is not quite Detroit, but uniquely their own style! Stumbled upon this cute new place in Greenpoint and it turns out this is the sister restaurant to Tuffet in Williamsburg. We enjoyed our cocktails and meat and cheese plate here. They also serve pizza, but not on Mondays. Love the indoor/outdoor seating with the big accordion windows and the overall relaxed vibe of the place. Also, their patio is dog friendly! I wish I lived in Brooklyn, because this is the perfect bar and we would come here regularly! My wife and I were on a brief trip to NYC and we stayed in Brooklyn (Greenpoint neighborhood). This place looked appealing when we walked by and that night about 7pm we decided to try it. It is "just right" in every way: - The ambience is open and friendly while at the same time being cozy and romantic - The music was fantastic and played at just the right volume - you could enjoy the music but also have a pleasant conversation without having to shout over the music. - The menu is really interesting and has a nice range of delicious looking items. We are crazy for pizza and we split a Margherita. It was delicious; absolutely top-notch. - The clientele seemed varied and friendly, both couples and singles having conversations and enjoying the great cocktails/wine/beers. - The staff was extremely friendly and helpful; they made us feel very welcome. -Finally, for you fellow science nerds out there, The Esters was named for the class of chemical compounds that give so many foods their flavors ("esters). Even the logo of the restaurant is stylistically reminiscent of the chemical structure of esters. Pizza prices and drinks are way too expensive at The Esters. Pizza is okay nothing special and not worth the money. Service is okay too...honestly the owner was rude. She will give you a difficult time if you don't order alcohol with your meal. Poor service too. Not worth it much better spots in the area to go to. read more
