Two stars because I'm angry and still hungry. I've eaten at Ono for years in CA and portions have never been a problem. Until tonight! I decided to get the Aloha plate pick two and chose the fish and island fire chicken. It came with only one piece of fish and a meager portion of the chicken. I think there were equal pieces of onion in the chicken as there was actual chicken. The salad took up half of the clamshell and had next to no salad dressing on it. And under the fish and chicken was three scoops of rice. 90% of the plate was rice and salad and it was almost 11 bucks. Weak, very weak! My wife and kids got chicken Katsu plates and the portions were acceptable and flavor was good (though my former local Ono would stuff the clamshell) also the scoops of macaroni salad were lacking maybe finished it in three bites. Lastly almost 6 bucks for two Musubis is a bit steep, a can of spam is 3 bucks, Nori (seaweed) is 3 bucks, and the rice is pennies and that's retail prices! I can usually make 10 Musubis with these ingredients. I understand they have to pay their staff and rent but I got 2 katsu plates, the aloha platter and two orders of spam Musubis, out the door was 45 bucks! In the end I killed my meager Aloha platter in less than five minutes leaving the over served rice and non dressed salad and I sat at the table like a begging dog hoping my kids wouldn't finish their katsu. If I could give no stars I definitely would! It was Mother's Day and rather than go to a restaurant and wait too long me and my family decided to get some take out and eat at home. My mom and me drove to pick up a family meal of 2 Hawaiian BBQ Chicken and Hawaiian BBQ Beef. We asked how much macaroni salad was in the meal and was told 6 scoops and we thought great because we were 4 adults and a 5 year old. We got home and realized there was only 4 scoops of macaroni although we had been told 6 and that was fine. But then we opened the meat and both of the chicken portions were burnt. We thought maybe it wouldn't taste so bad so we tried it reluctantly and it was dry, chewy and tasted as burnt chicken would. Ultimately we decided that it was worth the 15 minute drive back to the restaurant to get some edible food. When my mom and I arrived in the drive through and told them what had happened the kid in the drive through said "well we can't refund you unless you have the whole order with you"... We didn't ask for a refund.. so that was a weird but we just asked for it to be remade calmly. I did tell them it was a huge inconvenience driving back and that he told us the family meal came with 6 scoops and we only got 4 so we asked for the other two and he said no. Unnerving but kept my composure but then, he comes back with a "new order" of Hawaiian BBQ Chicken and there was one decent piece and the rest was burnt. So at this point, I'm irritated, the kid is rude and I feel like they just didn't want to remake it so they tried to scuffle around remaking it so they just added a piece that wasn't burnt. When I tell him this is unacceptable he said "well have you never had chicken on a grill before?"... the AUDACITY! So I told him I had but we had been coming to this location and several others for years and had never had an issue with burnt food. I asked for a manager at this point because he was clearly not getting the point that this was not the way to talk to customers just trying to get edible food. He tells me there isn't one in.. THEN the cook comes to the window and lies and says he's the manager and asks, rudely, to see the chicken that the other employee has already taken back... clearly lack or communication here. Then when they finally remake it the third time the cook who is a young man comes to the window and says "Thank you for wasting my time, now I am going to ask you a favor to never come back here again" and SLAMS the window shut. When I walked in and told him that was rude and uncalled for and that it's not our fault he keeps burning the chicken but it's really ridiculous that he would impersonate a manager to try to tell us we are not welcome at the store. He then let me know he "only makes minimum wage" so it's not his problem. Mother's Day ruined. I don't think I'll ever forget my first Mother's Day now because I cannot believe how entitled, combative and just plain disrespectful employees can be without a manager present. 0 out of 10 would not recommend. Go to any other locations honestly. read more

Pointless to have a drive thru service if they can't get the food out right away. Spend the whole lunch break waiting for the food then enjoying it. If Maui Hawaiian had a drive thru I'd rather go there than here any day. Always have one size drink as well but get charged for a large. I got takeout this evening with Katsu and fish with a side of musubis. I get home and there's not 1 sauce includes in my takeout bag. It was the dryest meal ever. Katsu chicken without Katsu SAUCE is just fried chicken! The fish and musubis should have come with their own sauces as well. That is pretty poor takeout service. I'd also add that the side salad was horribly dry as well. I tasted no dressing and of course there was none on the side. It's just basically a bunch of shredded lettuce. This is my second time doing a catering order from the Val Vista location. I gave adequate notice for my large order, even paying ahead of time. Once again, I had to wait 30 minutes for my food, which had a specific pick-up time!!! Don't they plan ahead? I have a scheduled time for a reason; a catering order is usually for a purpose- like an event or party. I thought it was just a one-time thing when it happened before, and I decided to give them another chance, but they failed me again. The food is okay. The portions are what I like for a crowd. Came here during lunch hour and it was pretty good. There wasn't a line at all, the staff was friendly, the service was quick and our food was fresh and plentiful. I got the shrimp and bbq chicken combo from the Island Favorite menu and my fiancé got the grilled spam and eggs and the spam masubi appetizer. Everything was delicious. read more

Inattentive staff is killing this place. Used the drive through on a pretty lazy Sunday afternoon, ordered Hawaiian BBQ chicken plate lunch and a medium unsweetened iced tea. I understand that drive through microphones can be of terrible quality but I had to repeat myself about 4 times to clarify that I wanted "Iced Tea", NOT HIGH C. Fast forward to getting my food, it was given, window closed and employee walks away. They come back a minute later after noticing that I'm still sitting there. No problem, remind her that I still need my drink. "What did you order"? - Unsweetened iced tea [Keep in mind, the place is basically empty and I'm the only person in the drive through]. Window closed, another minute ... "We're out of tea, would you like something else"? Sure diet Coke or Pepsi, whatever you've got.... "We're out of that". Fine, can you just refund me for the drink, I'll go get what I want at the Circle K next door. "OK, can I see your card". (I paid in cash). Was in the shopping center running errands and thought to check this place out. No one was in line when I got to the door, which is where you have to order. I placed an order for the BBQ and Katsu Mix plus a side of spam musabi. Most customers must have been placing their orders online, because while I waited about 20 people came by to pick up their orders. I would recommend placing the order in advance, my order took 20mins, but no big deal. I gobbled up the spam musabi first, I could eat these things 2x week for lunch. I highly recommend ordering these! The BBQ Katsu Mix was so large it lasted 3 meals. They did not skimp on the protein, rice or sauce portions. I liked the Katsu and grilled chicken over the bulgogi beef, I would probably order a different combo next time. Love the macaroni salad though! read more

I specifically asked and requested broccoli with my meal as it comes w veggies. The photo shows 4-5 big pieces. The person working the window said that "corporate is watching us on cameras and can only put 1 piece of broccoli in with each meal." What a joke. She then handed me my meal and I drove home. This place was absolutely awful. I placed an online order for a large catering 5 hours previous to the pick up time, and arrived on time for my pick up. Twenty minutes pass and nothing is said about my order. Finally, I was informed that the online platform was not "in touch" with those in store, and our order was not even ready, with one of our items even out of stock. It was then said it would be another 30-45 minutes before our order would be ready. When asking for a refund, we were told that the "district manager" would need to do the refund, and even so it would be difficult. At this point, we had no order and no way to get a refund. After having to literally argue for my refund it was finally given to me, and the person giving me refund sounded like they were doing me a favor in doing so, not that it was giving the money I rightfully needed back to me. I am beyond angry because of the poor and rude service and the inconvenience it gave to me, we I had to find an alternative for 15+ people in a limited time. If you are considering coming here for a large catering, or at all, don't. read more

Women's restroom was closed and the men's restroom was horrid with urine all over the sticky floors. Hawaiian BBQ chicken was over cooked. Rice and mac salad was decent. Great place. The foods pricier then most places but it's cause the portions are massive. I actually feel full after eating here and never regret it. I recommend the Chicken Combo. The beef is good but chicken's better here. Each plate comes with a solid helping of protein, a ton of rice and greens, and mac. Idk why the reviews are so low here its a great place. Only downside is the customer service and some of the workers just seem not happy to be there. I walked in at 7:30pm, with nobody in line. I ordered a BBQ Beef and Chicken Katsu combo Then noticed a special offer on the MeleMele Curry Chicken. I decided to add that, and the said it was Buy One, Get One. So I said "Lets do it!" After 12 minutes of waiting, and other customers after me got their orders, I asked if mine was lost. I was told, "The MeleMele takes longer, and you have 2 of them, so it is taking a bit longer" After another 8 minutes (20 min total wait), my order came out, and it only had one MeleMele chicken. They said the order didn't get entered with the BOGO, and they are too slammed to make another. Then another worker said, "Besides, that promo is over, it ended on April 30th". A) Update your digital display to not offer the BOGO if you can't honor it B) Be truthful to customers about what is taking so long (the order was messed up...as opposed to "melemele chicken takes longer and we are making 2 plates of it for you" C) At least get the other part of my order correct!!! I got home and it was BBQ Beef and Kalua Pork! (no katsu chicken) When I raised these concerns to them, they just looked at me and said "sorry, there's nothing we can do, unless you want to wait another 20 minutes for us to fix it". We decided to try Ono this afternoon, finally talking about it for months. The food was less than below average. The beef was overcooked and very dry. However, the chicken was better, but not by much. Now, the service was terrible. The young Latino man, was rude and curt. Didn't greet, and did not answer a question about a specific combination plate. He was clearly unhappy with his job. It was a nice store, since the location is not very old. This is one of my favorite places to eat. The ribs are SO good. I could eat them again and again. I'm leaving this review, however because we went to a new location and whoever helped us at the counter was incredibly helpful in explaining the menu to my cousin who'd never been and in the process helped me pick what I wanted as well. Chose this spot because we were having a late dinner. Was not disappointed we ordered 2 aloha plates one with bbq beef and bbq chicken the second was with the island fire chicken and chicken katsu. Flavorful not too salty and not dry. I judge a lot of Hawaiian spots for their mac salad and onos was simple but still better than a lot of other places.
