A small restaurant, so get there early or be prepared to wait. Friendly service. Delicious onigiri that are massive; you can get full from 3. Fresh and perfectly seasoned.

The service is simple, ambience is cozy. The food though, quite good! The onigiris are filling and really good, the mentaiko with the cheese was rich and slightly sweet, the butter and the crispy rice makes a texture bomb.

We stopped here a week ago wanting to try their onigiris. It was pretty busy when I came but I was able to place an order and leave within 5-10 minutes. I got the avocado salmon and unagi during that visit. I was surprised at how big it was. But the important part was that my kids love it. They were devouring it for dinner. We decided to check them out for dine in. We came in right when it opens so it wasn't busy at all. We got: Ochakuze with salmon and salmon roe --- pretty good, but it got salty eventually. Pork belly don -- I like the flavor of this one more - balanced. Yaki shoyu butter -- good and very buttery. Tuna mayo onigiri -- not as good as the other two but still decent. It was very rice heavy though, so I felt like it was monotonous at some point. Overall, it was a good place, if you like rice you will love this place

I'm so happy I finally got to try out this restaurant! Its hours are 12-2 and 5-9 and they are also closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I'm also from out of state so everytime i went I wasn't able to try it out until this time! It was definitely worth it! It's a small restaurant located across from another sushi place. The restaurant itself has a warm and cozy atmosphere. We ordered the ochazuke, the unigiri (mentaiko mayo and the mentaiko special), as well as the agedashi tofu. The ochazuke was very good! I ordered it with grilled eel and after the original dashi broth was added into the rice, the dish was just perfect! I definitely recommend trying this dish! I would go back just for it! The eel was made perfectly and was soft and flavorful. I also loved the mentaiko special onigiri (cheese and spicy roe)! It was so so delicious! We ordered the mentaiko special togo as it was so good we needed to bring it back to california hahaaha. All in all, definitely a five star restaurant I would definitely recommend!! For parking, since it is a busy area, we ended up parking at uwajimaya which has free parking if you make a minimum purchase of $20. We just bought some snacks and that covered parking.

In the heart of Japantown, is a onigiri donburi shop with a playful Japanese character the "obaasan monster" / Onibaba. The butter shoyu onigiri 5/5 heavy on the butter, nice grilled touch. Ume shiso onigiri 7/5 generous sour on top and in the middle, with sprinkling of Shiso on the side. Unagi egg donburi $26. Looked beautiful, cannot attest to the taste. Great atmosphere, like being whisked into a restaurant in Japan.

Walking into this place, you see traditional Japanese decorations with masks and glass charms on the ceiling. Ochazuke is not a very common style of Japanese food in Seattle, so I have to try it. I ordered the Una Ebi with green tea broth. Very mild flavor in general which is what I like. My friend with Donburi Tonkatsu telling me that the pork is tough to chew throw. Service is good. The server keeps checking on us and making sure the table is cleared. Next time we would probably avoid Tonkatsu.

Onibaba is a small and cozy restaurant that specialises in Onigiri in Japantown. They don't have a sign in front but it's easy to find. I've tried their Oyako, Unagi, and Mentaiko onigiri. Their portion is big and two onigiri are quite filling. The ingredients are fresh and delicious. Staff were nice and friendly. They have a small space inside so you may have to wait a bit if you want to dine-in. Parking may be hard but try street parking by the garden on the Main st. I'd highly recommend this place if you want a high-quality and delicious onigiri.

We've dined in and ordered delivery from them several times, and we've always been happy with the experience. They can get a bit busy at night since it's not a very large place, but we've never had to wait long. The restaurant feels warm and welcoming, with cute interior decorations that make it feel like a little mini getaway. Their food is delicious and very consistent--I've never had a poorly prepared dish from them. Some of my favorites include the fried chicken, saba ochazuke, cheese yaki onigiri, tuna onigiri, and katsu curry. They also offer a nice selection of canned beers, which is a great bonus.

The ochazuke with salted salmon is so good! It is like a bowl of comfort! Service was quick and the ambiance felt cozy!

Great onigiri and ochazuke! I got the cheese katsu onigiri which was big and filly. The salmon roe ochazuke was also delicious. I'd definitely try the unagi next time since that one has crispy rice. Service was fast, not a lot of seating so expect a small line. I'd come back, totally recommend!

This spot used to have a long wait even on the weekdays, but these days it's not too bad at all, which unfortunately corresponds to a drop in quality. This also used to be one of my favorite spots as they typically have no misses. I've tried their onigiris, musubis, rice dishes, specials, and my favorite, curry udon, which were all great. However, in the last couple times I went, I got the egg drop soup udon, which was a special. Their specials are usually on point, but this wasn't good at all and made me regret ordering it. The other time, I got their curry udon and it felt like it was mostly soup. I'm not sure what happened but with how pricey this spot is, I probably won't return for awhile.

Pretty unique limited menu. It's no longer a sushi restaurant. A lot of rice dishes including kazu, rice bowl with soup pour over. We ordered the oyako and tako wasabi. Flavor was good but pretty simple.

Spicy tuna mayo and pickled daikon I think?

Onibaba has recently become a favorite of mine. My absolute go to is the Ebi Mayo onigiri. Crispy and lightly sweet, I could eat 2 of them!! We tried the cheese pork katsu onigiri last night and it was very rich and delicious. I have yet to try everything on the menu but trust me, I'm working on it.. I'm coming for the donburi next... The space is small but cozy and inviting. There is always one younger guy working when I come and he runs the place like it's nobody's business! you are well taken care of here. If you can't get a seat, order your onigiri to go :) It's just as good and totally worth it to go walk down the street and find a nice place to enjoy it.

The popular sashimi plate had sockeye salmon, scallops, king salmon, yellowtail, snapper, and shima aji. 3-4 slices per fish so total about 20ish pieces for $ 75 dollars. Also included salmon roe. Ask which fish is in the plate since it seems to change. Service was good. They serve distilled water which is appropriate for eating raw dish so you actually taste the fish and not the tap water. The star of the night was the miso black cod. Soft buttery and flavorful. Just enough miso to bring out the sweetness of the fish. Some may find it not flavorful enough. It depends on if you are looking for fish flavor or seasoning flavor in my opinion. The only down side is that it's a fatty cut of fish so by the third piece it can be a bit heavy. Ended up cutting the fat with a bit of lemon toward the end and using the shredded pink diakon. For the price of $ 17 dollars, it is quite a good deal as other spots in the area would charge more or give less.

They do check up on you every so often, especially for water refills. The space is quite big and they can seat lots of people, they even had a big party of 10 when we dined in but without enough space to walk around and still seat many in booth or chair seating. Food didn't take too long to arrive which was nice as we were starving. The food portions are pretty big! The breading on the katsus were crunchy and flavorful. The udon was perfect: gooey hard boiled eggs, huge ebi katsu, chewy noodles and the same comforting curry. The chicken katsu was good but the chicken was on the dry side for me. My boyfriend was very pleased with the curry and katsu saying that we had to come back and try the other dishes. The iced green tea was refreshing, the salad's dressing for the side salad was pleasant and the miso soup had tofu, seaweed and green onion so it was excellent! Definitely recommend this spot to those who enjoy Japanese cuisine.

Definitely the most memorable dish of the meal. - Tokyo Shoyu Ramen: Yummy! The broth was light but flavorful and the noodles had a nice chew and grabbed onto the soup really well. When we were seated, there were only about three other occupied tables, all with couples. Two of those tables were already being served their food. We placed our order, but our food didn't arrive for about an hour despite the restaurant appearing to be fully staffed. To make matters worse, multiple tables that were seated after us received their food before we did. The long wait might have been easier to overlook if the food had been worth it, but it wasn't. I ordered the seven-piece sushi assortment with a baked crab roll, and more than four pieces of the fish were still partially frozen. The fish did not taste fresh, which was especially disappointing after such a long wait. An hour to assemble seven pieces of sushi seemed excessive. Seeing that more than half of the fish was still partially frozen made the hour-long wait make a lot more sense. Maybe they were waiting for it to defrost before serving it. My sister ordered a baked crab roll and two pieces of seared snow crab. The seared snow crab was completely forgotten until I had already finished my meal. We had to remind the staff before they rushed to prepare it. The baked crab roll itself was decent, but the combination of the extremely slow service, disorganized order handling, partially frozen fish, and forgetting an entire dish until we asked about it means we won't be returning.

No notes or critiques I love edamame. To drink, I had one of their specialty cocktails. It was their take on a spicy Marg. It was honestly a stellar drink. It was a perfect balance of citrus and spice. I would order this drink again without a doubt good presentation too. We had the toro sampler which came with three different types of Toro with three different toppings. It was cool to get to try the different types of Toro, and I enjoyed tasting them side-by-side to see the differences. The toppings were one of their house, sauces, fried garlic, and chives. I enjoyed the house sauce the best. I was also looking forward to the Crispy Rice which came with crispy rice w/ salmon roe, wasabi aioli, & aonori with spicy tuna. You could choose what type of fish went on it, but obviously we got tuna. This was a yummy bite. Came out piping hot. Beautiful presentation. The tuna was perfectly prepared. The salmon roll was an interesting touch but actually worked well. I think it's sacrilegious to go out for sushi and not get miso soup, so We also added a miso soup to our order. Solid miso soup. No critiques. Came out piping hot. Because I felt like we needed a vegetable, we had the House Spring Mix which came with mixed greens, cherry tomatoes & cucumber w/ spicy garlic ponzu. I enjoy the salad dressings at Japanese restaurants because I feel like they're very distinct. I don't think this one was as distinct, but it was still good. The cherry tomatoes weren't mushy at all, which I appreciated. I do enjoy a spring mix, but Romain or arugula will always have my heart. Moving onto rolls. We started with the Capitol Hill Roll which came with snow crab mix, avocado & cucumber topped w/ seared salmon, scallions, tobiko, sweet aioli, sweet chili & soy glaze. This was my favorite roll of the night, but I would love to go back and try some of their other rolls. They have a huge menu. I love a sushi that has seared salmon, but IDK if that still makes it sushi. My dad loves asparagus, so we got the El Diablo shrimp tempura, shibazuke & asparagus topped w/ seared snow crab legs, pico de gallo & chipotle. It wasn't the most traditional roll, but I did enjoy it. I probably wouldn't order it again when there's so many other good things to try on their menu, but Im glad that I got to try two rolls. It's definitely cozy, though "cozy" is doing some work here. I tried the Creamy Wagyu Ramen and the Premium Bara-Chirashi Bento. The ramen was good, with the creamy broth doing most of the heavy lifting. Rich, flavorful, and enjoyable all the way through. It never got overly heavy or tiring; although, given the portion size, it may simply not have been given enough time to wear out its welcome. The noodles were pleasantly soft, held onto the broth nicely, and kept their texture until the end. Nothing particularly memorable about the noodles themselves, they understood their assignment: transport broth to mouth. The Wagyu was tender and cooked well. My only complaint? There wasn't enough of it. A recurring theme, as it turns out. The chirashi was also good. The salmon was the standout; fresh and easily my favorite part of the bento. The octopus was noticeably firmer and chewier than I'm used to, bordering on too tough, though not enough to ruin it. I was also a little disappointed to see packaged wasabi. With a premium chirashi, I was hoping for something better. And again: the portion was small. The prices are a little high, but being next to Amazon means I came prepared for that. What I wasn't prepared for was the portion apparently being optimized for cloud storage! Good food, minimal footprint.

I'm not sure what is going on with the acoustics inside of Umi, but it is insanely loud (it might not be that way for everyone though, I do have a hearing problem). Umi is the Japanese word for ocean, which is very fitting since you can order any fish possible here. And somehow, my homie that I was with decided to order a steak. I can't fault him, he was ravenous at the time. Admittedly, the steak looked fantastic as well. My other homie is a vegetarian. And even though this is not the most vegetarian-friendly establishment, he was still able to have a nice meal. He explained to me that he is a tofu connoisseur, so we ordered the Agedashi tofu. I've never had tofu prepared this way, and it was some of the best I've ever had. It was bathing in a dashi broth, which was the perfect level of saltiness, almost like a miso soup. The tofu was fried, and when you let it sit in the broth for a bit, it creates a fantastic consistency to each bite. In order to test the true caliber of a sushi spot, you have to try a specialty roll. I was feeling a little spicy that day, so I elected for the Knockout. It didn't exactly knock me out, but I was impressed. First of all, this roll was a looooooong boy special. I always prefer sushi to be made this way, because if a roll is only 6 pieces, the experience is over far too quickly. The roll itself was very enjoyable, and I even convinced Mr Steak to have a bite (he seemed to like it too). A little bit of truffle oil took this thing to the next level, they're definitely innovating in the world of sushi over here. I'd love to come back and try more rolls from the extensive menu here. Maybe something like the Hottie Roll, which was my nickname in high school.
