It's been a long wait, but Sho is back and in his element. The atmosphere is relaxing with beautiful wood accents, art and of course sushi. It was the grand opening of Kakurenbo, the newest venture of what was formerly Tsukushinbo. The sushi bar is gorgeous, seats 14 people. Definitely recommend calling for reservations. There are only a few tables. The main focus is the sushi bar. The fish is amazing. Each piece building toward the next flavor profile. Each piece crafted with clever touches to bring out the delicate flavor of the different snappers he started with. With small little plates in between that combined different nuances to give a subtle richness for each bite. They now have a Sommelier who is able to suggest different sakes, shochus and even beers that will give you the best experience for your meal. I've already made my next reservation and I can't wait.

The Best Omakase Experience - Finally Back! The wait is finally over! After four long years, my favorite sushi spot has finally reopened, and it was worth every second of the wait. I popped in just to say hi and ended up staying until closing. They have put so much heart into the reopening--every little detail has been refreshed to reflect their unique style, yet the warm, welcoming vibe of the owners remains exactly the same. And a huge shoutout to Jimmie, who is back with an even more incredible sake selection! The Food: Having Sho's sushi again was pure bliss. This is what a true omakase experience should be. Unlike many places that only offer fixed sets, I love that you have the freedom here to eat as much as you want and request specific favorites. The sashimi literally melts in your mouth, and the sushi is beyond words. They even pay attention to the smallest details, like adjusting the rice portion to fit your preference. Don't miss Marine's kitchen dishes! Everything coming out of the kitchen was spectacular, but the Chicken Gizzards were a total standout--true artistry. The chewy, tender texture of the gizzards paired perfectly with the spicy kick of yuzu kosho. It is an absolute must-try. The Details: * Seating: The sushi bar has specific seatings at 5:00, 5:30, 8:00, and 8:30. If you prefer a table, seating is more flexible. * Reservations: Keeping it classic! You'll need to call to book your spot. If you want an authentic, high-quality sushi experience where you're treated like family, I cannot recommend this place enough. So happy they are back!

Chef Sho is back and better than ever! We started with some appetizers, the agedashi eggplant was fantastic and moved on to the nigiri omakase which was incredible. So happy they are back and I have a sushi spot again that doesn't miss.

I ordered the a la carte options but my husband ordered the omakase, and we both had a grand time.

My local friends recommended we come here for some authentic Japanese food while we were visiting…read more We texted ahead to reserve a table for 5 since it is a popular place. They don't take phone calls or reservations online - very old school. Which I think makes it more desirable. We ended up getting a special room with a "chabudai" style table! I was super excited because I've never experienced it before. What I did find pleasant was that although it was a lower table, there was an opening beneath the table that allowed your legs to hang rather than having to sit Indian style. Tyson was an amazing server. Was attentive, accommodated our allergies and was thoughtful with us having a young child. He was so pleasant and polite! We enjoyed the following: Baked miso glazed eggplant - YUM and melts in your mouth. Black Miso Cod Collar - this was pleasantly surprising and so delicious. Eat bite was tender and flavorful. Simple yet so appetizing. Sushi rolls were both fresh and well prepared. The nigiri was also great and fresh- not fishy. We additionally ordered takoyaki - which I normally don't love but this one was very tasty and I enjoyed the texture. Lastly karage chicken which came with a creamy slaw. Overall it was such a pleasant experience and we look forward to coming back!

Food was excellent, price is slightly on the steeper side but food quality is also high. We arrived at 6 sharp as a walk-in and were told they could seat us if we finish by 7:30 for a reservation. That's a good amount of time, no worry there. The entire time we dined we were reminded about the time and how we had to hurry up. As soon as we sat, we were introduced to the menu which was great, but then told to put in certain orders now because of "that 7:30 reservation." Throughout the dining experience when we were checked on or given food, they'd allude to the time. We finished up around 6:50 and were asked about dessert and decided we should just leave and get some sweets elsewhere because of the rush. Miso Dengaku Eggplant - these are a favorite around here for good reason. Soft and delicate eggplant paired with a flavorful sauce. Slightly sweet, savory, and salty mixed with the perfect umami. Eggplants are great at absorbing flavor and really made use of the sauce. Spicy Cod Karaage - cod was rich in flavor, soft in texture. Not too spicy, but just enough to enhance the buttery fish meat and fried outer layer with another flavor. Overall great to share. Black Cod Collar Miso - one of their famous dishes for good reason. Extremely soft cod that falls off the bone and is easy to tear apart. Miso glaze that is all three parts savory, salty, and umami. Worth ordering over and over. Beef Yakiudon - one of the more basic dishes built for filling up the group. Beef was tender, yakisoba udon noodles and vegetables were standard. Sauce was a bit on the sweeter side, but this had a good amount of carbs to pair with the delicate seafood and fill us up. Kama Meshi Unagi - I'll start by saying this is tasty, but man is it pricey. Supposedly feeds two which we collectively thought was laughable. Unagi was super soft and tender, using the word delicate again would be accurate. Rice was well sweetened and marinated with unagi juices. Worth trying but definitely don't expect this to be filling. Spicy Tuna and Sassy Salmon Rolls - while seemingly basic, these rolls were on the tangy, sour side. Primarily the fish, which tasted like it was doused in vinegar. Would honestly skip these rolls in favor of actual fish dishes here.

I sat at the sushi bar as it was just myself. For lunch, I opted in for the Power Lunch and it was fantastic. Served with 5 pieces of nigiri, seared salmon, miso soup, salad, edamame and more. The salad is great with the ginger dressing and the miso soup was flavorful with tofu. The nigiri was fresh and flavorful. Also got a shrimp tempura roll which was great with tempura shrimp and fresh avacado. Overall no complaints here. There are so many dishes I want to try and will be back soon for more.

For what this place is, I think it's great! The prices are really good considering all that you get and the quality of sushi is pretty good considering the price as well. I was pleasantly surprised to see their combos come with additional appetizers like the agadashi tofu, the salad with dressing choices, and miso soup. The chicken katsu definitely had more meat and a thinner layer of breading as an FYI. I ordered the sushi combo for 38 dollars and got great tasting sushi for that price. Overall, I'd recommend this place if you want somewhere casual with good options and little extra items mixed in with your meals. It's definitely not like Umi, or Shirros but you're also paying like 1/3 to 1/2 the price. I definitely see myself returning when I want a quick or convenient bite to eat (it's one block from my home).

Momiji was one of those and it was extremely close to the movie theater we were walking out of. Sushi sounded great so we strolled over to get some. The sushi didn't disappoint... not in the slightest! We got some specialty rolls off of that portion of the menu and they were so very good! Fresh and extremely flavorful! Moonraker was one of the rolls we got. I highly recommend it! In addition to that we got an order of the Spicy Tofu... again delicious and made an excellent side with our sushi! I got a hard alcohol I wasn't used to getting. It was fun and it was quite good! It was Shochu which is a distilled beverage and involves sweet potato. If memory serves I got the one with sweet potato and pear. Very different but very good. It had a nice dryness to it. To wrap it all up we got some deep fried mochi ice cream. It held up nicely to being a great finish to a very high quality meal. We are definitely coming back!
