In regard to the review of Nov 25, 2025 by Britten, I have lived in the same condo complex since 1998, and we have been using One Trip Tree Service since 2017. The complaint comes from someone who tried to direct their work on a tree in the common area, and they properly followed the approved instructions from the Association Board. The owner/arborist (Steve) knows trees, discusses honestly whether a tree needs trimming or can wait a few more years, and the crew does great work. One Trip has been the primary tree trimming service for SDSU and UCSD for years, with good reason. We have never had reason since we started using them to even consider a different service! read more

I had a great experience with One Tripp Tree Service. We had a Eucalyptus tree in our backyard that was got much to big for where it was planted and it needed to come down. The crew showed up right on time, walked me through what they were going to do, and got the job done quickly and safely. They were super respectful of the yard, cleaned everything up when they finished, and even stacked some of the wood neatly for us to use later. Prices were fair, and there were no surprise charges. He's very reassuring and the main reason i decided to hire their service...problem is, he does not stay to guide the workers...HE LEAVES!! over 20 years of growth and vegetation property GONE!...in an hour. and at my age i will never see that beauty return to my property. Per prior reviews, this seems to be the norm for this company, so don't waste your time. Please note this negative review has nothing to do with their business. I have not used their services so I cannot say anything about that. I have tried calling a few times but they are always busy when I do. I figured I would just let them know on here. I forgot about this incident until I was reviewing my dashcam footage today. On April 17th, at around 8 am I believe, a white Ford 150 truck with this company's labeling on it was recklessly driving. He was narrowly cutting people off and I watched him as he nearly sideswiped my boyfriend who was a few cars in front of me on the freeway. I was impressed by their office personnel Holly, who listened and made me feel that my concerns were valid and worked with me to schedule an appraisal visit. And I also was VERY IMPRESSED with their certified arborist Dave. His wealth of information and resources helped me finalize my decision that it was time to let these trees go; that the growth patterns, weaknesses, and the proximity of my house being a target should be figured into my decision. They were horrible! I would've given them zero stars but I can't so I had to give them one star. They obviously trimmed my trees so that they would have to come back in six months. They left a lot of low lying palm tree fronds. I want my trees trimmed so you only have to do it once a year not twice a year and they trimmed them so they would have to come back in six months. If you compare a tree trimming like a haircut they should've trimmed a high and tight marine haircut not a low regulation navy haircut. I was very disappointed with them and I would not recommend them at all! Definitely choose somebody else! Sure they were fast, and cut off the large branch from a pine tree, but they had close to ZERO respect for the property, existing plants and succulents, or general outdoor furniture and ornaments. I mean I am not a picky person but they smashed or 'accidentally ripped up' over 15 succulents, some are completely missing. How about a check-in with us when arriving to ask what should be protected? How about moving some pots and ornaments out of the way to protect them? I would highly recommend a different arborist who does not have to be told after the fact that they messed up, rather checks-in beforehand to ensure they protect the tenants plants, pots, furniture, and decorations. read more

The crew from One Tripp was working on a tree at my neighbor's house that borders on our property. They needed to access the tree from our deck. They were very courteous and cleaned up thoroughly. As they were wrapping up, they rang our doorbell and offered to dispose of a pile of tree limbs we had taken down ourselves. Talk about leading with generosity, and going above and beyond! Not only was my neighbor happy with the tree trimming and the price, we were thrilled that they saved us a bunch of work cutting and filling our yard waste bins. Amazing. At a very competitive rate (we had 3 quotes), they were able to offer a very good service and we fully recommend them. The team of 4 they sent to our backyard quickly set to work taking down several large trees and trimming others. Everything was of high quality and they treated all of our property around the trees very nicely. We just moved into an older home with big beautiful trees. The sad thing is the trees were overgrown and not maintained. Thus, the roots were pulling up the sidewalk and driveway. Plus, one tree was leaning on the house roof. One star for getting started on the dot! They were at our house 8 am with professional equipment already set up and ready to go. After assessing where they were going to cut, they started. Next thing you know . . . 1,2,3,4 trees down and ground down to the stump. One star for checking in with us and keeping us posted with the progress. The crew seemed knowledgable and not some fly-by-nite, hire-on-the-corner job. They even gave us advice on other trees. One star for getting the job done lickety split. Other companies said they could do the job over a couple days. This took one day. Negative one star for cutting the sprinkler system line and damaging the telephone utility box. One less for leaving a ton of grindings for us to haul ourselves. We're ready for winter! I am literally thrilled with the service I received from One Tripp Tree Service! My husband and I obtained three estimates for the removal of our 30 year old ficus benjamina plus it's stump and visible roots, which were destroying our fence and tiny yard. One Tripp gave us the lowest price of the three estimates (the highest bid was double that of One Tripp's price) and they had the soonest available appointment to do the work. As part of their bid they gave us the option to either keep the stump grindings or to have them removed. We chose the option of retaining possession of the ground chips, because we wanted to use them as mulch, and it has worked out beautifully! We usually buy bags of mulch, so why not just hold on to the free mulch? The tree removal went amazingly quickly. The crew showed up on time and felled and chipped our enormous tree in about 40 minutes! Later, another person showed up and did the stump grinding. That took a bit longer because it's more painstaking, careful work. The worker who did the stump grinding did destroy one sprinkler pipe and one sprinkler head, but I don't hold it against him because the roots were extensively overgrown - that is why we had to have the tree removed in the first place. Now I just smile when I look at my cleared yard and I look forward to planting a new garden with smaller plants that have less destructive and invasive roots. read more

They only reason I am giving them 2 stars instead of one is because of how nice Cassandra, the receptionist was. Everything else about the experience was painful. I scheduled them to come out and remove some trees from my property that were causing root damage to the foundation and then grind the stumps out so I could plant new, safer trees in their place. After waiting for the estimate I called to see what the delay was and it turned out they had my email address wrong, no big deal, so I gave them the correct one and they sent me the estimate. Before they came out, I asked them if they could have the arborist who did the estimate give me a call and recommend a few trees to put in the place of the old ones. a few days went by and nothing, so I emailed Cassandra and she was surprised he still had not called me and said she would remind him. Nothing again, so I called and she apologized and said she would tell him again to call me. I never heard from him, but I just gave up at that point. I figured for $3k I was spending the guy could spare 5 minutes, but I guess I was wrong. Also, they never corrected my email on the bill, because when I finally got the paper bill, it was still incorrect and said they emailed me over a week earlier.... When they actually came on Monday to cut down the trees, everything seemed like it went fine. When they were done the guy said another crew would be by to grind the stumps. I waited all day for them since I was taking off work to be home for this but they never showed up. I called the scheduler and they said they were coming by Friday for the stumps, which would have been good to know. The next day when I was headed out to work, I noticed my sprinklers were shooting huge amounts of water straight into the air. Went to investigate and found that they had snapped 3 of my sprinkler pipes by stomping on the sprinkler heads (none of them were under the trees, so it could not have been falling branches). So, I had to dig them all up and replace the pipes etc. I sent them a message on their site telling them this had happened and they never responded. The guys came to grind the stumps on Friday, which again seemed fine. They were supposed to grind all the stumps down 12 inches deep, except for one because they were worried about pipes they said. However, when I was digging to make a hole for the new trees (not in the area they said they were not going to go as deep), I got less then 6 inches deep before hitting solid stump, which I have to now remove myself. I am just hoping now the other 5 stumps they ground out are not the same because of the huge amount of extra work I now have to do. Overall, between the lack of responsiveness, communication, and extra costs I now have to deal with on repairs and extra work, I definitely would not recommend One Tripp Tree Service. read more

One Tripp Tree Service was hired by our neighbor to trim her tree back that was destroying our yard with it's droppings.... they came into our yard very respectfully, did a professional job in a days time, and the clean up was fantastic!! Unfortunately, there was some damage done to our deck during the trimming, BUT the company did great and took care of the repairs without any hesitation or argument. Good people! We just used them to top/prune three tall trees in our yard, two in the back (so no easy access). They did an excellent job. The estimator was a very personable guy and knowledgeable professional, and all four crew members were friendly and very careful with our property. The trees look better than after previous jobs done by other companies. They completed the work and cleanup in less than a full day and we found the price to be fair. One Tripp was recommended to me by my neighbor. When I received the estimate I thought it was high. I had received 2 other estimates - one being much less than One Tripp. When I questioned the reason for the high cost for trimming my 2 trees I was told it was at least a half day job. Because of my neighbor's recommendation, I hired One Tripp to do the work. The crew was very professional and courteous. It took approximately 2 hours for them to do the work. I didn't think my trees looked much different after the trimming. I inquired about this and was told that cutting too much off of these types of trees would not be healthy for the trees. As the crew was ready to pull away, one of their trucks wouldn't start. They had to call the office and have someone bring a part out. The estimator brought the part, so when he arrived I took the opportunity to ask him about the high cost of the job. I told the estimator the job was done much quicker than the half day he estimated. He said the travel time is included in the cost and he did not change the fee. That day I called the office and explained the situation and asked if I could speak with a manager or the owner to discuss possibly lowering the high fee that I was charged. I was told the message would be passed on. No one ever called me back. I called a few more times and on one of the calls I was told the owner is on vacation and will call me when he returns. I never received a call back. I called one last time today and found out the estimator is the owner. I will pay my bill and be done. read more

We have used One Tripp Tree service for the past 12 years or so. They are fantastic. Dave came to our complex, gave advice , suggestions and much information on what we really needed to have done. He is spot on. We so appreciate his expertise. We had a palm pruned, removal of three other trees, plus removal of two out of control huge plants/ shrubs, on our property since 1966. We also had stump grinding and removal, all done in the same visit. Crew arrived on time, polite, efficient a pleasure to have doing the worlk.Clean up after was spotless. As the board president for my community that has a large quantity of trees in Solana Beach, we have to do quite a lot of tree trimming and maintenance each year. I can tell you One Tripp is very efficient, affordable, incredibly knowledgable, detailed and very professional. We have used them and other trimmers over the years. We always wind up using One Tripp because they do the best job at a fair price. One Tripp trims the 50+ large trees in my HOA every year, along with all our other smaller trees as needed. They are always busy which should tell you something about the demand for their services. Most people get sticker shock over the expense of trimming trees, but the truth is, it's worth it to have all your trees professionally trimmed. Trimming all your trees at once is a much more cost effective method which I highly recommend. read more

I really hate having to leave negative reviews but I really cannot believe this happened. One Tripp Tree Service was highly recommended to me. I am a property manager with about 300 properties, and I have a dead very big and dangerous Eucalyptus tree that needs to be removed. I called them on Nov 22 asking about their services. Spoke to Laurel. She said someone would call back. No call back received. I called again on Monday Nov 25 and left another message with Laurel. No Call back. I called a 3rd time on Wednesday Nov 27 and left a 3rd message. I received a call back from Dave after 5PM. He apologized profusely and told me they had some new front desk people and he had just gotten the message. He assured me that this was not how the owner did business. He said he would go on Friday 11/29 and look at the tree and call me on Friday. He told me he was supposed to not be working on Friday but because of my experience so far he was going to go and look at it and try and make it up to me. No call. On Monday 12/2 I called and spoke to Dave, he simply said I am sorry about that. I asked him if he had gone to see the tree and he said no, I will go tomorrow. I asked him if he was really going to go and he said he would. He called me Tuesday and said that he went and it was going to be thousands and thousands of dollars to remove the tree. I asked him for a quote and he said I would have it in a couple of days. In the meantime, I had 2 other tree companies go out and look at the tree and were working on estimates. He said it would be a couple of days, it was over a week before I got a call from him. He said that it was going to be between $12,000-$15,000 to remove this tree and that he was going to have to obtain city permits and permission. I asked him if he actually wanted the work and why did it take this long to get back to me? I actually started to laugh, told him this is not a game, the tree is dangerous, and if they did not want the business to just tell me. He stated he and the owner worked on this quote all week and it was a lot of work with the city and the permits. I informed him that I had two other quotes both around $2200. I told him that I would be leaving a yelp review and that if the owner wanted to speak to me I would be happy to take that call and fill him in on this experience. I was actually hoping he would call me because I was having a hard time getting my head around this when they were so highly recommended. I also spoke to the city, it took 2 phone calls and less than an hour. I was provided with city maps, phone numbers, processes, options and that there is NO permits needed at all, no city involvement whatsoever. I am really upset with the unprofessionalism I experienced with this company as well as the untrue information that they used to try and justify the outrageous pricing. As a property manager, I will never use them again and I will also reach out to my colleges to let them know about my experience and recommend they do not use them as well. read more

Amazing. These guys are great. They came on time, worked steadily to trim back a large Ash and Sycamore tree as well as bring down 4 Cypress along the back of the property. These were both large trees which left lots of debris. I was amazed at how well they cleaned up not only my yard, but also any pieces that fell in my neighbors yard, which pleased my neighbors. In addition, he was very informative about trimming our other trees, pointing out why only one of them needed trimming now. The crew was professional and friendly and I can't say enough about the great job they did. They were careful not to damage other plants in and around the yard and their clean up was excellent. And this was not an easy job...big trees up on a hill in the back yard. When one of the landscape lights they had to pull out so it wouldn't be damaged during the haul out of the debris was finickky about lighting up again, they came back twice to figure out and repair the problem, without my having to bug them.
