A great place to visit in Stockbridge. Always packed in the summer. A great spot in an alley behind the Red Lion with lots of other spots to catch your eye read more

Down a little walkway/alley you will find this gem. Gave our name and told to come back in 20 mins. So we sat in some chairs in front of library down street. We were given a table inside this adorable restaurant. They do have outdoor weather permitting seating along the walk way. Had quiche special which was broccoli and onion with a small side salad. My dad had chicken salad croissant which he said wad yummy also served with a salad.. Delicious. Dont pass up this gem. read more

4 stars for the food, 2 for service. In town and having lunch with a colleague (weekday, 1:30), so we stopped by and despite empty tables outside and inside, there was a line outside so we wrote our names on the clipboard and just kind of waited. She had the quiche, I had the mac and cheese, and while we enjoyed the food, the guy who seated us just wasn't friendly to us and there seemed to be a lot of tension among the employees. read more

A quite sweet little restaurant with a the best of a small town feel. We made a stop at the Berkshires on our way to upstate New York and near Naumkeag there is this little quaint town with a small alleyway of shops and eateries among which is this little restaurant. The name Once Upon A Table really captures all the essence of its pleasant atmosphere, with a touch of almost fairy tale neatness and comfort. Our waiter was great, he was quite friendly and humorous. The owner was chatting with another table. Love this about these intimate little towns. I ordered the Alaskan Salmon burger, something not often found on menus. Boyfriend ordered the chicken sandwich. Our food came blazing fast, the salmon burger came on an English muffin, the buns are slightly crunchy on the outside and a porous softness otherwise. The salmon patty was light and has plenty flavorful, with plenty of guacamole on top, and the veggies are a fresh complement. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the delicious food and the atmosphere makes it a great experience. read more

This place is absolutely adorable. You feel like you're in someone's home. Very small, but really nice and clean and friendly. It was only the owner, Alan O'Brient, and a waiter with a great beard and multiple accents (incredibly friendly it was amazing). My mom had the niçoise salad which was amazingly delicious. My father had the crab cakes which were just as good. I had the mac n' cheese which was SO good! I would compare the mac n' cheese to the mac n' cheese at Zinc Café where i live. The mac n' cheese originally comes with bacon, but i don't eat red meat, so i ordered it without. quote from mother: "I think that if I were staying here, I would eat every meal here" This place was really wonderful for how small it is and how quaint is. Stop here for sure! read more

The overpriced, mediocre food could have been forgiven, but the extremely rude staff put it over the edge. Our server, who wore his ugly sunglasses (inside??), barely looked at us or spoke to us as he took our order, brought us our food, etc. He and the other members of staff gave us many dirty looks throughout our time there, which I honestly suspect was because we were being frugal in what we were ordering and they thought this would impact their tip (it didn't, because we aren't jerks). They made us feel horrible and genuinely the food was nothing special. read more

Just had a wonderful dinner at Once Upon a Table. The Haddock was delicious, served with broccolini and other vegetables, all done to perfection. And the home made roll was to die for. The owner, Avi, could not have been more delightful and caring. Put it on your to-do list if you are in Stockbridge and looking for a special meal. read more

This great restaurant has a very friendly waiter (the place is small enough that it only has one waiter, I think) and a very warm, welcoming atmosphere. The menu, though small, appears to rotate often and has great, inventive offerings. I had the escargot pot pie as a starter; it was buttery and garlicky and the pie crust was excellent, light and fluffy. My entree was from their daily special menu; it was shrimp and scallops in a spicy marinara sauce over penne. It was delicious; the marinara sauce was very good and the scallops were cooked perfectly. My girlfriend had a salad with balsamic vinaigrette and chevre and said it was very good. She also had the pan seared chicken with cranberry orange glaze, which looked and smelled amazing. If you are in Stockbridge for lunch or dinner (or a weekend breakfast) I highly recommend this restaurant...really amazing all round. read more

Ordered the special rack of lamb...friends had crab cakes, trout and chicken. It was all I could do to keep from stealing bites from the others...they all had knives, so I behaved. Great presentation, lovely simple venue. It is tucked away, so you'll have to look for it. Our waitress Nikki was lovely to deal with and friendly. read more

Four of us had a late, off-season lunch and loved it. We enjoyed our salad, quiche, salmon burger, and Reuben. Fairly priced wines and lunch menu. There were too many tempting items on the menu; I wish it were a little closer so I could try them all. We finished with delicious deserts -- the ladies raved about the crème brûlée, the chocolate cake was said to be delicious, and my cheesecake was among the best I had ever tasted. Cheesecake is often ruined with a puddle of sickly sweet raspberry syrup but this one had a nice little serving of slightly sweetened blueberries that were just right. The freshly brewed coffee hit the spot, too. Unpretentious, friendly, delicious, and fairly priced. We couldn't have asked for more. read more

I asked for a reservation, was told I would be informed if it was possible, and have heard nothing since.

I like the name of the restaurant quite a lot and the old house that the restaurant is in is quite lovely. However, had I not bookmarked this place to review later on, I probably would have forgotten all about it because the meal itself was pretty unremarkable. It was certainly not bad in any stretch of the imagination, it was just kind of forgettable was all. I came here a few months ago with my brother and mother for lunch. I got their butternut squash soup to start and then I had their caprese panini, which came with a side of couscous. The soup was fine, albeit on the salty side, and the panini was fine as well, though a bit on the small side, considering the prices of items on their menu. The couscous was not very good, though. My family felt the same about their meals: not bad, just not very good. The restaurant is located in the same alleyway as a few other shops and cafes, so once you're done eating, you can take a nice little stroll, window shopping at the small mom and pop shops next door. read more

A quaint and cozy little restaurant: great atmosphere that really helped maintain the wonder of our getaway weekend. Inside the restaurant was very clean and all though very small, it in no way felt cramped. The menu is very unique which was really something we were looking for- our vacation has been really memorable so far and we didn't want some chain menu and conveyer-belt food that anyone could get just about anywhere. We started with Mimosas and Crab Cake for an appetizer. Then my wife had a Turkey Cranberry sandwich and I had an Alaskan Salmon Burger on an English muffin. Great service and the food was excellent. We ate lunch here in the "off season" and we were the only couple in the restaurant; I can only imagine this little place must be packed and pretty overwhelmed during the tourist season. read more

Amazing meal at Once Upon A Table, adorable outdoor seating in a more private area. Everything was delicious, but especially the Gnocchi and the Creme Brûlée. What really made this meal special though, was the amazing service from our waitress Shanique, who had such a kind, attentive, and inviting energy. Definitely coming back on our vacation next year. read more

Under new ownership- with new menu. Absolutely amazing!! Fairly small, so reservations are suggested. The owner is an absolute gem, everyone was welcoming and warm and the service was prompt and friendly. Everyone at my table agreed that the food was delicious, perfection really. First the good part- the staff was lovely and very attentive. However, the food was very disappointing. My husband ordered the chicken which was so dry he could barely eat it. I ordered the haddock and although the fish itself was good it was smothered in a sauce that was too overwhelming for the fish. It certainly wouldn't be our first choice to eat at. read more

Top notch food in a cozy nook. Don't miss this excellent restaurant when visiting Stockbridge

Literally such an amazing little place! The servers are so friendly and accommodating and the food is homey and delicious! The duck was perfectly cooked and the profiteroles were to DIE for (and I'm not a dessert person). Loved it read more

Restaurant has changed hands. Menu on google is not one being served. Prices on some similar items have increased by 50%. Food was mixed, Burrata salad was excellent but need to ask for plates when sharing. Wife's trout was excellent, my Flank steak unevenly cooked, some slices almost raw others well done read more

Absolutely blew me away! The staff was extremely welcoming, seemed like a small family-run business. The food was perfection. You have the option of sitting outside or inside. Either way, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and serene. Unfortunately, we live an hour away but we WILL be making trips back. This is my new favorite place to eat. read more

I ordered the grilled salmon Greek salad. The salmon was absolutely fantastic. The lettuce was crisp. Juliana ordered the fresh Mozzarella, roasted red peppers, tomatoes and pesto served on cheese herb ciabatta. Her sandwich was delicious. My wife & I had a wonderful mid-week lunch here. Warm enough to eat outside but we chose to eat in and enjoy the ambiance, service, and, of course, the splendid food. This place is an absolute hidden gem. I love the diverse menu and the ever-changing specials. For starters, we had the special Thai soup which was divine and the Gorgonzola gnocchi which was SOOOO good. We also split the veggie dumplings, I had the miso salmon (delightful) and my boyfriend had the shrimp fry Diavolo. The star of the show were the profiteroles, complete with ice cream in the middle. We had vanilla, chocolate chocolate chip and espresso. Hands down exceptional! The waiter was so kind and attentive. Hope to be back soon! read more

Dinner was fantastic! The menu was short and sweet and I was starving because I hadn't eaten all day so I had lots of food. Tried the Mac and cheese and the flat iron steak and they were just amazing! The Mac and cheese was piping hot, had thick cut bacon, was super creamy and topped with bread crumbs. The girl sitting next to us got it also and we both loved it. Then the flat iron steak came out when my wife's entree did. A perfect medium rare, topped with some creamy bleu cheese butter and underneath was sautéed oyster mushrooms and wilted frisée. So freaking tender and delicious! My wife had a lentil and yogurt ragout. It had fresh young carrots roasted with cumin and pepper flakes that were just superb! Our appetizer was a board of fresh local bread, prosciutto, some variety of small fresh plum and burrata cheese. Again, just delicious. Oh and they brought us bread while we were waiting for our appetizers. Two large fresh piping hot roll/muffin shaped bready things.......and the butter in the little tin was nice and soft and spread and melted instantly. I could have just eaten those all night. Then it was desert time. My wife got the Pot De crème. I've never had it but she says it's the best she's ever had aside from her grandfathers! I got two deserts, one was dark chocolate cake with blueberries on top and the other was an olive oil cake with strawberry jam and fresh strawberries. Both were fantastic. I would definitely recommend Once Upon A Table. read more

Stayed at the Red Lion this weekend and decided to try Once Upon A Table on our first night. The service was amazing and the food was even better. RUDE, GRUMPY, CATTLE like treatment and zero customer service !!! Don't care what the reviews say before me cause we experienced and saw what we saw first hand. So,...... Once upon a time there were 3 French, 1 New Yorker and our 4 legged dog Maya visiting the town of Stock bridge. After a great morning exploring the town we decided to find a place for lunch and happened to yelp "once upon a table". It looks like a cute place that seem popular based on yelp reviews. We unfortunately or perhaps fortunately never got to eat there. When you arrive there it's a little unorganized and no one there has the responsibility to great guest or assist them with how Kong's the wait, two welcome out of towners and greets them. When I arrived there with my in laws, husband and dog it was very confusing who to get a hold of and how to get our name on the list. I went into the restaurant which seemed like a 2X2 area all cramped up and no staff paying attention to any customers unless it was your time to be paid attention too or they felt they had the time to acknowledge your presence. So I stepped out and found a podium with a few names on it and a couple standing behind it waiting for their turn to be seated. Assuming like any other restaurant you stand behind the last waiting customer to have your name written on the waiting list I did like wise. A older grumpy employee who seem fragile to anything going on at the restaurant came out on a cordless to speak to a customers that called in for a call ahead or reservation, talks to them and ignores the other waiting customers and walks back in. Few min later you see him come back out take the couple waiting in front of us and shoved them quickly into the table where their suppose to be seat and disappears. By now it's been a good 10-13 min I'm still waiting for a employee to acknowledge us or ask how many for today. No one. Finally I see the older man who seemed everything on the schedule for him that day was 5 times more then what he could handle come back out frantically and while he was heading back in I just happened to ask in a annoyed voice "can we get our name written down"? His reply is what took me off the top. His reply " I don't have time to your names, write you own name on the list". At first I let what he said slide. I did reply that it would have been nice to know when we arrived here 15 min ago that customers write their on name. I went over to the list and started writing our name and I could hear him on the table near me going on and on about how he doesn't have time to be writing anyone's name m, if he started taking names and writing then then there will be no time for him to finish what he needs to do and why did I think he was going to write it...... and it went on and on. At which point I told my husband and in laws that's we are going else we're to eat. I'll be darn if I'm going to give $100 and some on lunch to an establishment that has zero customer service and moves their paying customers like cattle. We talked around for a little to find something that looked interested bf to eat and being visitors we weren't sure what else was there. Heading back to the car where once upon a table is we noticed a place called sweet and savory. At first it looked like a dessert snack type place but having not other option to eat we figured can't hurt. It was our best of best can't hurt moments and finds. This place is terrific. It's a mother and daughter team that make everything fresh from scratch daily. The mom is American but lived in Portugal and Paris for years and by trade she's a culinary teacher. When you walk in you get hit by a million fantastic smells being cooked and baked in their kitchen and they have fresh cookies, patty, empanadas, soup and sandwich. Inside is seating for only 3-4 people and outside you have tables for about 12-16 people, but let me tell you my enchiladas sandwich and my husbands paninis was to literally die for. I took one bite into my food and everything made since as to why today it was destined to leave once upon a time and find this true hidden gem that most people would not even notice cause all the reviews on yelp for this none customer service once upon a time. Be different and explore other opportunities!! It's how our ancestors found great things by not following everyone and what everyone says, and not to say that follow me but there is no need to go to once upon a time and wait for what seemed half our life just to be acknowledged or get service. Try sweet and savory which is literally on the other side of the road from this place and be wowed ! The owner and her daughter were so welcoming, came out to talk and make sure everything. Was okay and just make you feel at home having great home cooked food. That's what kind of service I think anyone would want when your paying good money, and by the way sweet and savory super affordable !!! For $35 all four of us had sandwiches and chips. read more

We ate here during Phase 2 and were impressed with the service and quality of food. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was really delicious and sitting outside felt safely distanced. Stopped in for lunch due to the high reviews yelp during a trip through the berkshires. Was overall an underwhelming experience based on the positive reviews. Service was somewhat slow despite not many patrons. The value was poor as the portions were super small. One particular frustration was a $2 up charge for salad instead of cous cous with my sandwich that was literally a small handful of lettuce. That being said, the food we had was simple and fairly tasty and we enjoyed the ambiance. Perhaps they do a better dinner service? read more

Beware: racist and disrespectful owner! The restaurant itself was rather small and somewhat cramped. The food was nothing special, though it probably was the best part of our experience. Our waiter was friendly, as well. However, the owner (tall, thin white man) did not once speak to us before, during, or even after our meal. We noticed that he had stopped at every single other table to converse with the other guests, except us--we are not white. At the end, when taking our check, he didn't even spare us a glance. In general, he seems to not care about the restaurant in general, as one of the windows in the seating area had a huge crack in the middle. Overall, Once Upon A Table is okay if you're just going for the food, but not good if you're looking for a pleasant experience (or not white). read more

While driving through the Berkshires I came with my three your old to this restaurant which it turns out is decidedly not a kid's place. Breakable china plates, Mac and cheese that had fancy stuff in it that makes my child act dramatic, a small restroom on the second floor. None of that mattered, they were super kind and accommodating even when my kid turned a fancy china plate into a hot wheels parking lot. The food was pretty good, my fish was a bit bland but the veggies and potatoes had great flavor. The wine list looked good but as I was driving I didn't partake. I'd love to come back and try this place with a more apt companion, but I was impressed with the flexible service. read more

Wouldn't know. Was told to go to Red Lion Inn. This is a cute story. We stopped by for lunch, was told there was a ten minute wait. No problem. We asked to use the bathroom and the host dodged the question referring us to public bathroom. Confused we asked since we were going to eat here why we couldn't use their bathroom. After about 3 minutes of alward silence they said we should go use the red lion inn bathroom then come back for our table. Weird. read more

Cute little spot down the alley. Food is more homey than gourmet or anything fancy like that. My first complaint with this place was the soup. The special of the day was a Butternut Squash Soup. I immediately jump all over it as it's my favorite fall soup. They place the soup in front of my and the color was off. I tasted it and sure enough, it's not a butternut squash soup. I asked the waiter what else was in the soup he said, butternut squash, carrots, bell pepper, and another root veg which I forgot what he said. To me, that's more of a fall root vegetable soup than a Butternut Squash. I was extremely disappointed. I ordered the pan seared Gnocchi for dinner and that was ok, very heavy cream sauce and more chewy than usual. read more

My wife and I stumbled upon this restaurant yesterday while we were checking out downtown Stockbridge. We had a very good experience. I ordered the Chatham Chicken Salad sandwich on a Croissant roll, with a side salad and it was very tasty. My wife ordered the Nicoise salad with grilled salmon (a special yesterday) and she loved it. Both luncheon entrees were served in a timely manner and they were fairly priced. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff was super friendly. The only negative was that the outdoor seating was limited so we ended up eating inside, but that turned out fine, as we were given "the best seat in the house!" We will definately return when we are next in the area. read more
