Located in Grapevine Texas, the restaurant holds to its rustic roots: nothing fancy about it, just right to the point. You're at a cafe and will get great food served in a family style setting. There were two large parties ahead of us and we thought the wait would be long. However, they expertly seated the tables of 9 and 15, then sat us, immediately. Coffee, grits, biscuits with gravy and eggs with Canadian bacon came right up and we were very pleased with the timing and flavor. The customer service was good as well. Restrooms were themed and very clean. It is obvious that they have pride for their establishment. The price was right and we walked away feeing like we got a great deal, overall. Stopped here for breakfast to catch up with some old friends while we were in town. The staff was welcoming and friendly but I forgot to catch the waiter's name. The decor was kind of dark and outdated but everything appeared to be clean. I had the strawberry belle which was two large pieces of French toast stuffed with a large amount of cheesecake filling and topped with a bunch of fresh strawberries and strawberry glaze. The eggs were just alright but the bacon was good. The cheesy grits were a huge let down and were very watery with little to no flavor and not near enough cheese. My husband got the train robber burrito which is a huge breakfast burrito smothered with queso. He said the queso was very yummy and the burrito was simple but full of flavor. Even with a packed house they sat us down within 5 mins. Love the service here. Our server Ilir was awesome. Very attentive and didn't go overboard. The decor inside always makes me feel like I'm in an old western movie. Love it! I ordered the omelette and my wife had the biscuits and gravy with eggs on top. We loved every bit of it. We were in Dallas for a trip and heard lots of great things about this restaurant. We also heard that the weight can be very long. Fortunately, we went on a Monday morning and did not have to wait at all. Our service was great, and our waiter was very friendly. The ambience of this restaurant would definitely be home. There are a lot of southern comfort, sort of decorations and they decorated the restaurant for Christmas as well. We ordered two really big plates of breakfast one being the chicken fried steak with eggs and sides and it was so delicious. If I lived in Dallas I'd get a plate of the chicken right now. At less than a 10 minute drive from the Gaylord Resort, I was excited to try this place for breakfast. When I arrived, I noticed that there wasn't very much parking space from the outside and the cafe is actually quite small. At first I had a hard time deciphering where the entrance was because there wasn't clear signage. Once inside, I was greeted by a friendly waitress, who sat me really quickly. I opted for the French toast, hashbrowns, two over hard eggs, and two slices of bacon. While unassuming, the food was delicious! The french toast portions were smaller than I thought, and I thought it'd be soggy, but it was perfectly crispy and not overly sweet. The eggs and bacon were quite standard. Unfortunately, the hashbrowns were a little undercooked and overly greasy. But all in all, not bad for a breakfast joint! If you're looking for a solid breakfast for under $30 (w/ tax + tip) this is your place! I will note, however, that the inside is very Texas (and the music is strictly country). read more

Bland and flavorless. I ordered the Six Shooter. That's a chicken fried steak atop biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. Possibly the worst chicken fried steak I've ever had. The breading immediately slipped off. So that means it wasn't prepared right. What breading I did try was crispy. I'll give it that. The steak? So tough I left about 80% of it on the plate. It was that bad. Zero flavor. Super tough. Sausage gravy also zero flavor. Except maybe for some flour. I couldn't tell if that was from the gravy or the biscuits, which were soft and fluffy. I also had two strips of bacon. Meh. For me to have that reaction to bacon tells you don't bother. Small strips that were overcooked. Even salt, pepper and Tabasco couldn't save this meal. I wish I had studied it online a bit before coming as I really did not take too much time today before ordering. I got what they call the Cowpoke, which is 1 egg, a breakfast meat, and a ginormous pancake. I had my egg over medium and it was perfectly prepared. The bacon was thick and delicious! The pancake like I said was huge, and pretty respectable. My server was Clarion. She was very professional and efficient, exactly what I like in a server. The menu is huge with sooo many selections I appreciate that they offer a variety of breakfast meat that included turkey sausage and turkey bacon . I personally don't eat pork. With so many options I finally decided on the Peach cobbler pancake and my son chose a cinnamon roll pancake- both of which were really yummy! I was staying in the Dallas area, Grapevine to be more precise, for a few weeks for work. On the last day before heading to the airport on a Friday my group decided to go to Old West Cafe. I was really excited because I had seen the reviews and I didn't want to miss this before leaving. I don't have any connections to Dallas so it isn't very likely I'll be back anytime soon. When we arrived there were a lot of open tables and we were a group of 6, four of us being larger sized men. The host seemed a bit perplexed about what to do with us and went for help. When she returned she pointed us to a 4-top right next to the host station. One of the people in my group immediately said, "Well that's not going to work!" and the hostess mumbled something about where did the other two chairs go. There was no way our group was going to fit on that table. She somewhat reluctantly moved us to an actual 6-top table. I got the Peacemaker which is 2 biscuits covered with sausage gravy, 2 eggs, choice of bacon or sausage. Most of the dishes ordered came in cast iron skillets. This is maybe a cute idea but the execution was terrible. These skillets were room temperature and they immediately sucked all the heat out of the food. No one that was served in a skillet seemed happy with what they got. Now if the skillets were kept quite warm they would have helped keep the food hot, but it was the exact opposite. My eggs were cooked okay, I get them over easy. They were a little more done than I really like but not cooked solid, I'd easily describe them as over medium. The gravy was absolutely nothing to write home about. That was by far the most disappointing part. I was expecting that a highly rated breakfast place in the heart of Texas would have better sausage gravy than so many of the hotels serve for their complementary breakfast, but it was not even as good as that. I got the smoked sausage as my meat and it was a rather small single link sliced in half. I don't think anyone at our table was very impressed. I honestly have been happier with my food at IHOP than here. Service wasn't very good in general and coffee refills were exceedingly hard to come by. read more

We decided to have breakfast here this morning while in Grapevine. We have been to several locations. The food does not disappoint, and service was exceptional. The pancakes were delicious and huge. The only downfall of the meal was the runny grits. Way too much water in the grits. I thought my breakfast had a cold 'cause the grits were so runny.....Everything else was good.
