We arrived at the old mill for dinner. We looked it up in advanced and it looked great and everyone wanted to go here for dinner. Prices look a bit steep, especially when you have 6 people in your group. We arrived and they said it would be an hour wait. Which was fine by us as we went over to the old forge distillery to enjoy a cocktail while we waited. They called our name at 66 minutes of waiting. We were told to go to the bottom of the steps and our waitress would wait on us. I glanced at the menu and no alcohol which sounded great because that was $100 savings right there along. We ordered our drinks, and they provided some of the best hush puppies that I've ever tried, and eventually provided us a sauce to go with them after I ate two without any sauce. All meals come with a side salad, corn chowder(yum) choice of potatoes(mashed, sweet) etc; and it's served family style portions. In addition to all of your food including the entree, they include a dessert. Truthfully after filling up on the hushpuppies, salad and eating one of the best southern style cat fish's that I've ever had, I couldn't take another bite. The food from the service that we had from Valeria (believe that was her name) was superb. She was a great waitress, quick on her toes and never missed a beat. If you want to come to a nice family sit down place to eat this is the place and judging by the wait and crowds this place does extremely well and doesn't need my review to keep ticking. First visit and will not return. We waited almost an hour and a half and the food was not good. Sides were barely warm and the turkey was gross. Dressing was good but that's it. We visited on a Friday in August and the place was PACKED and as our server put it, made for speed. They seated you so fast even when the line was long. The building is enormous with lots of wood and feels very country and homey. The food was overall good but not great. Clearly it was made for mass production. However I was so impressed with our server, he was so speedy and warm and we never had an empty water glass. I asked him what his step count was for the night and I believed him when he said he was already over 15,000. The corn fritters were delicious with the sweet butter and the soup was thick and had a smack of ham. Salad was your typical side salad. I opted for the plate of sides which were good but not great. The green beans were standard, the carrots were unfortunately very soggy, the baked apples were sweet but needed spices, and the broccoli casserole was the hit of the night. My companion got a chicken pot pie which had a nice crust and nice flavor but there was little chicken and the sauce was so thin it was more like soup. Every meal came with soup, salad, corn fritters, and dessert so there was a LOT of food. We took our desserts to go and ate them the next day. The chocolate cake reminded me of a good Texas chocolate sheet cake and the pecan pie had a surprisingly high amount of pecans and not too much goo. Fried catfish was decent, and the broiled catfish was good. The salads were yummy with house made dressings. The mac n cheese was good. The fries were good. The green beans were solid. The mashed potatoes were yummy. The ice cream tasted "real" and the desserts were all great, albeit a little on the sweet side. Our server was great and brought 4 ice creams for our 4 littles, despite expecting only 1. The only major let down was the grilled cheese. My nephew didn't touch it. Would 100% return again. Spent a weekend in Pigeon Forge during the Jeep invasion this year. We normally eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel, but as we approached the parking lot there were only about 8 cars in the parking lot and thought that was odd for a Saturday morning. So we decided to do something different and revisit the Old Mill since we hadn't been there in years. So glad we did. Welcoming staff, fast service, great food, and complimentary orange juice and muffins. You will not get that from a chain restaurant. This is by far one of the best meals we had on our first day in Pigeon Forge. I had read so much about this place and how you can wait hours to go in. They have both an access ramp and an elevator to go upstairs. All along the way there are signs pointing out various aspects of the Old Mill and its history along with how Pigeon Forge got its name. We decided to chance to doing lunch. To my delight we were seated right away with a view overlooking the duck and the waterfall. The cute salt and pepper shakers are shaped like black bears and are heavy! You can find them for purchase in the nearby pottery shop. We had a very welcoming and charming waitress who gave us menu suggestions as well as give us prompt and accurate service. Most meals come with their signature corn chowder so I ordered their home cooked meat loaf. My husband had a club sandwich with fries and my daughter had a bowl of fresh fruit. We got the corn chowder first-it was creamy and rich! You could taste the ham in it. Very good. We got with our meal corn fritters and biscuits.-I could have eaten them all but save room for the main course. My meatloaf was soft and tender and had a ketchup covering. The whipped potatoes were just that soft and adding the gravy myself made it just right. The green beans were southern and believe me very good. I tasted a little of my daughter's fruit salad-the fruit was fresh and the dipping sauce not overly sweet. My husband enjoyed his club sandwich and fries. They sell desserts to go including their pecan pie. Atmosphere is rustic-just what you would expect in the Smokies. Stopped by the Old Mill Restaurant after doing a tasting at the Old Forge Distillery. Given the amount of people waiting outside the restaurant, it seemed like it would be awhile until we were seated for dinner. Luckily we waited only about 10 minutes before our names were called. The Old Mill Restaurant serves your classic Southern food, with every meal including a cup of corn chowder (okay), house side salad (ask for dressing on the side or else it will be drowning in it), corn fritters (enjoyed these), mashed potatoes (okay), green beans (surprisingly good), and your choice of dessert. You'll definitely leave here stuffed and likely with a to-go bag. My southern fried chicken combo came with a lot of chicken that were tender and juicy. I liked how it wasn't overly breaded and seasoned well. However, I found this meal to be just okay. I also tried some of the country fried chicken, which I liked better. The chicken breasts were tender and smothered in just the right amount of homemade gravy. Out of the four desserts offered, I had the blueberry cobbler (to-go), which was a huge no-no. We had a lovely lunch at the Old Mill Restaurant. We were seated upstairs and could see the river. Our server, Mickey, was fabulous. Friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. Kept our drinks refilled without our asking. Had trouble choosing from the menu. But ended up with the pulled pork BBQ plate and chicken fried chicken. Both delicious, although the pork was not piping hot. The corn fritters served with your meal were quite good with the maple butter. Everything is homemade and the mash potatoes sure tasted homemade. It's very pretty and family friendly. We went to the restaurant for lunch. Got seated right away thankfully, because it seemed super busy! Ordered a bunch of southern specialties and loved all the dishes. Meals were very homemade type, not even the fried ones. Fried catfish was very nice. Flaky fish inside a crispy outside batter. The southern fried chicken also has a nice crispy exterior encasing juicy abs tender chicken. We ordered the legs instead of breast though. Both the fish and chicken were nice and not too greasy but I felt a lack of seasoning! The fried steak was good, not great. I was a little disappointed with the gravy, although I most definitely not a gravy expert. I expected more flavor basically. Star of the show was the chicken pot pie although it's very heavy! Beautiful puff pastry exteriors encasing a soulful chicken and veggie soupy thing Accompanying green beans was nice, nothing extraordinary though! Came here for lunch and it was really great. They don't take reservations, so we had a 45 minute wait and used that time to look at everything in the general store. Once we were seated, our waitress was nice and attentive. I got the sweet tea (yum) and split a couple dishes with my wife - the meatloaf (yum) and the chicken pot pie (it was very good). It came with a corn chowder, corn fritters, mashed potatoes, and green beans - all of which were really good. My kids also really enjoyed their meals. While in Tennessee I really wanted chicken and waffles. The website claimed to serve it, but they absolutely did not have any chicken and waffles. I settled for pancakes, but they were nothing fancy. We had dinner here tonight for dinner and it was great. My wife had the pork chops and they were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. I had the fried trout and I really liked it as well. The breading was light but flavorful. We both got blackberry cobbler to go and stopped at Old Mill creamery and got ice cream to put on top. We have tried on a few recent vacations to stop and eat here, always too crazy busy. Yesterday we finally got in and were so disappointed. Waiter was rushed and a bit rude. Corn fritters were good, but the other food was grossly over-priced. You get a large portion, but it was terrible. I swear it was jar gravy on the pot roast. Food was not seasoned and quite like hospital food. I ordered the small prime rib....it was very grisly and flavorless. After waiting so long to go, I was crushed. We had 4 pieces of unwashed silverware, yuk.... The meals are family style. $24 and up....if you split a meal they will charge you $11.99 plate fee for the other person to get sides. The server did NOT tell us there was a plate fee . The food.. It's gross. Think of cafeteria food, under a heat lamp. It's over salted and bland.. People on here (Yelp) are easily impressed with food Maybe I'm a food snob because I'm from California. Nice spot to try out in the Pigeon Forge area! My family and I waited only 20 mins on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated at a table by the window and it had a nice view of the water! I got the Country Fried Steak, but I took a bite from my sister's Country Fried Chicken and I think the chicken had a slight upper hand on taste for me. With the fritters, chowder, AND any entree you get, good luck getting up and leaving from the amount of food you're given. We always love coming here each time we visit. The atmosphere of an Old Mill is very interesting. Be prepared to wait quite a while- they do old fashioned wait lists. No reservations, no texting when ready, just put your name on the list and wait for the speaker to call your party. There are plenty of stores nearby to walk around while you wait. A must visit dining experience while visiting Pigeon Forge, TN! The Restaurant is situated in a historic grist mill along the Little Pigeon River , setback off of busy 321/441 Parkway. There's plenty of parking and a great surrounding shopping village to get all sorts of souvenirs, candies , ice cream and other novelties. It's really cool when you ascend the zigzagging pedestrian ramp and enter the restaurant on the 2nd level . You're greeted at hostess stand and put in your name, because this place is ALWAYS busy for breakfast, lunch and dinner. After a short wait and they call your party, you stand at the top of the wooden staircase and meet your server. Our server Savannah was super sweet, polite, attentive and generally just an awesome person. Everything in the expansive restaurant is made of thick pieces of old wood . You really feel transported back in time to another place. I especially enjoyed the table setting with Smokey bear salt and pepper shakers. It really felt warm and cozy. Each table was a big wooden table like your grandmother had with natural wood and high back wood chairs. We went later on a Sunday during lunchtime and enjoyed reviewing the menu before selecting some great entrees. I was in the mood for a great sandwich and their Reuben did not disappoint ! The cheese, Russian dressing perfectly toasted bread and meat made for a delicious combination that was very tasty and satisfying. My wife opted for more traditional Southern fare with Fried chicken and a few sides . Her's was equally delicious. Almost Forgot to add that they start you off with complimentary corn chowder and corn fritters. So by the time we got to our entrees we were already starting to feel quite full.
