I had four items tonight. The Cowboy Ribeye ($63) I ordered was truly amazing. The seasoning, char, and rare cook temp were perfect. Expensive yes but I feel I got a good representation of a finely done Texas steak. The "forest mushrooms" ($12) however were total trash. They taste like moldy dirt. The Josh Cabernet ($13) I was recommended to and ordered was fantastic however upon doing my research after we got back to the hotel room, I find this is a $7.00 bottle of wine and I was charged $13.00 for 4 oz. The Baked Alaska ($15) was wonderful. The Ribeye and Baked Alaska were worth it, even if they are on the high side. Stay away from the wines and the sides, they're laughing all the way to the bank. Expensive venture, but nice for a date night. I'm sure there are better choices but we had a good time. 3.5 stars overall. read more

This hotel and restaraunt doesn't list the phone number or have access to this restaraunt from the hotel directly. They have not updated it and don't seem to care to. This manager David promised to help me with an order and then he accused me of stealing an open table account? Imagine stealing an open table account and then not being allowed to order when you are physically in the hotel. U can literally walk down and talk talk him. He hung up on me after promising to help with the food for my little boys birthday. Who does that? Imagine being a prominent CEO in Dfw being accused of theft by a restaraunt judging me for reaching them through open table because their phone numbers don't exist. The service was attentive. The place was calming and beautifully decorated. I ended up having lobster bisque, which was plentiful with lobster. They shard it has been on the menu for 15 years. I can see why. It isn't creamy. More of a broth type of feel. As you can see in the photos they place the lobster in the bowl first, then pour the broth so you see what you are getting. The black Caesar salad was good too. I probably would try a different salad the next time. I definitely would have the lobster bisque again. Make a reservation if it's a popular night such as a Friday or if a convention is in the hotel. Enjoy! read more

The start of the night began with nice and friendly service from the bar and hostess stand ! We got sat and it took a while before we were acknowledged but once the staff realized the delay the service was fantastic and friendly ! They took care of us and made sure we enjoyed our evening there . The food was absolutely delicious from the appetizers to the main course. The pricing is up there a bit but worth it . Making reservations-not efficient. Unable to make online reservations for any hotel restaurants, even though we had hotel room reservations. You were allowed to leave your name and number and they will call you back with a request for reservations but this never happened. After a month of waiting we called the concierge department and they were able to book our reservations for meals. On the day of the reservation the restaurant sent a text to reconfirm. Which we replied yes to and entered our dietary restrictions and special occasion information. Next an email was received stating on reservation was declined. Then we received a voice mail Indicating it was important to call them back. When returning the call and it was virtually impossible to get a hold of the restaurant to find out what they needed. When I called back with the number they provided it ended up connecting me to Central reservations. Frustrating. Luckily a Front Desk employee assisted me in calling the restaurant directly to clear up the matter. -Submitted req via website Sept 28. Reply never received. -Nov 3rd we were asked to put a --credit card on file. We did. -Dec 2-replied to an email confirming the reservation. -Dec 2- voicemail to reconfirm again Reservations for dinner should not be this time consuming and difficult. We had an amazing meal. The service was okay, but not great. We were promptly greeted and offered beverages. Rechecks and timings of service were definitely off but we didn't let that ruin ur evening. The server offered several recommendations and had good knowledge of the menu. Although the occasion and dietary restrictions were on the reservation the server didn't seem to know. Bread service provided when requested and served between the salad and entrees. Thinking they forgot, not sure. The food was served hot and at the same time. The majority of the table all felt the same that the proteins were lacking salt. Would I go back? Most likely no. read more

Anniversary celebration did not disappoint! We chose the 8 course menu and every bite was perfection. Textures and pops of flavor explosions kept my palate guessing. I took off one star for two reasons- booth seat was gross when we were arrived (price of meat and greasy spots) and I was served my steak with a generous pile of crab on top. They asked about allergies (crab for me) prior to us being seated so it was crazy to think they ask, but don't pay attention. Our server immediately cleaned the booth when it was brought to his attention and a new steak was brought out after I mentioned my previously mentioned allergy. I only took one picture because I was so eager to eat the food when it came out! The meal was wonderful! I started off with the burrata, which was fantastic. The texture of the tomatoes was absolutely perfect and the aged balsamic glaze was delicious. Then I had the NY Strip with a mushroom medley side. The steak was cooked perfectly and the mushroom were awesome. The subtle differences in the tastes and textures of the mushrooms added a great dimension to the meal. The service was also outstanding. Our waiter Lou was very helpful and knowledgeable about the items on the menu. He suggested a lovely red wine that complimented the meal perfectly. Can't remember what it was called though. I'd definitely visit this restaurant again, and I hope Lou is my waiter again next time. read more

This was a very romantic place to go have dinner with your sweetheart or even gather with some friends. It's two floors, the top floor a bar area then you go down and it's a more dimmered romantic dinner setting area. It was a little hard to find there were signs that show you how to get there but then once we got near no signs and we overlooked the name on top of door because it was right next to another bar. We ordered the 20 oz rib eye steak and it was very good but I honestly wouldn't say that I like saltgrass rib eye probably better. I do highly recommend the pasta with lobster. All in all I would probably not do this place again because it was highly expensive and I found it to be OK and not anything better than saltgrass. read more

Both were delicious, with us especially loving the sea food tower. Everything was big. We also got the lobster macaroni and a filet. The filet was tender and seasoned but could have used a sauce. All 4 of us had the filet with various add-ones while sharing lobster Mac and our favorite jalapeño cream corn. Aldan was our server. He was wonderful, when you go there ask for Al. They serve bread and butter as a starter. Which is very nice. I actually really enjoyed the bread. We ordered and split a bone in rib eye, And it was very tasty. Half of it was done medium and the other half was done medium rare. Cook to perfection. Cauliflower and Brussel sprouts were amazing. Lobster Mac and Cheese was great, highly recommend The atmosphere was wonderful and the noise level was low. We didn't sample any desserts because there was plenty of food. We always love coming here for our Christmas dinner and were very much looking forward to it last night. Unfortunately, we left very disappointed. They've changed the menu quite a bit. The steak used to melt in your mouth. Last night it was tough and bland. The salad and sides were disappointing, the bread wasn't great. The atmosphere used to be comforting with dim lighting and the smell of old leather and wood. The renovated restaurant looks like a very bright IHOP diner with uncomfortable seating. The service is still top notch so that is a plus, but it's just not worth the money. We will find a new Christmas spot next year, unfortunately. read more

I did appreciate some good chunks of lobster though. Second course was a mixed greens salad with a verjus vinaigrette. It was a refreshing palate cleanser, but wasn't anything amazing. Third course was the "Dean & Peeler New York Strip" served medium. The meat was very bland and didn't taste like it had any seasonings. I did enjoy the very small portion of brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and bacon pieces, and bourbon infused apples. Last course was the mocha mousse, which was the best part of the meal. I've dined at Old Hickory a couple of times.. the wine list is decent, the servers are attentive & skilled. The food I've had, has been good. Those items include the Charcuterie, Octopus, Crab Cake, Sea Scallops and the Lobster Mac & Cheese. The most notable of the bunch - was the Octopus! We had the BEST experience at Old Hickory! Our server, Debbie, was amazing...she was personable, knowledgable, and gave great suggestions. My huband had a ribeye and mashed potatoes, I had the mushroom & pea rissoto with lobster and the burrata salad. Everything we ate was SO GOOD. We also shared the cheesecake for dessert. The bread they bring to your table are these warm quartered rolls with cream cheese and blue cheese crumbles...could have completely filled up on just those and been happy. We were staying at the hotel for only 1 night and we were so glad we chose to eat at Old Hickory. We will definitely eat there again once we return. read more

There is something very magical about The Gaylord Texan at Christmas time, very visually impressive. Always something to do, but is on the expensive side. With that expense, you also buy a certain classy experience. With all that said, we now move onto the Old Hickory Steakhouse. Interior gave off that very relaxed feel with an exceptional dining experience. Starters the bread was to die for. I was looking for the butter and saw none. Butter was included inside the roll and quite generously I might add. Thin beaded chips mixed with a peppery dust with added sesame seed was included. I went with the Lobster Bisque which looked very creamy with a generous amount of Maine Lobster inside. Didn't need any pepper. Have to say the best I have tasted outside of New England. After enjoying my Bisque, the main course arrived. New York Strip steak medium well done. Delivered as requested. A fine piece of meat slightly crisped on the outside. Pure enjoyment to eat. Along with this delight, I opted for the Habenero cream corn, a creamy delight with just a hint of habenero kick to end the flavor. If that wasn't enough, also ordered was the Mac and Cheese. Nice serving of gouda cheese mixed in with the noodles. Last but definately not least, I salute the serving staff. Some of the finest I have ever seen. It was amazing on how friendly and professional they were from seating and food delivery. Old Hickory should teach a master class and show other high end establishments on how service is to be done. The dry aged ribeye had a really good flavor, but was a little tough. The filet was tender and juicy. Both steaks needed more seasoning. Broccoli was very good. The gouda mac and cheese was amazing! They were super personable and knew the menu down to the finest details. They went well past, above and beyond, to see that our every wish was met and they did it while making you as the customer feel special and appreciated....such a rare thing to find in waitstaff in this day and age. I had excellent service as soon as I walked down with Jerome. I was waited on by Vilas an excellent server. On the food my main course was the Sea bass they have an Asian BBQ miso twist to it and it was incredible! The lobster bisque and epicurean farm fields greens salad were my appetizers and they hit the spot a smooth soup with crisp veggies. I was I unfortunately dissatisfied with the sides I had the charred broccoli and carrots and It it had zero char or crisp to eat. It was like eating another salad. The crème corn was good but not the best I have had. Killens in Pearland is still the best best crème corn in Texas. Overall a great choice in dinning if you are staying at the Gaylord. read more

Went on a Team Dinner on a recent trip to Dallas for work meetings, First off I had never been to a Gaylord Hotel before and this one totally takes the cake. OMG THIS PLACE IS INSANE! Its giant, bigger than 10 malls, 10 hotels & like a Start Park together, had to walk for some time just to find the restaurant, it was mesmerizing. Our team was already seated & eating so we sat at a table next to them and ate somewhat separate, the food was GOOD. We had just got off a plane and just wanted to relax so we didnt order as much food as we probably could have, LOL. The steak was truly delish, sides were great, service was even better.
