This has to be one of the best restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We went here for my wife's birthday and had an outstanding meal in every respect. My Marriott elite status meant we started with a free glass of champagne for the wife and I, and it was very good quality. Our server, Debbie, was incredible. She was efficient, friendly, and professional. Imagine a friend who brings you whatever you want, sort of like that. Service was impeccable from start to finish and could not have been better. The ambience is upscale and sophisticated. It feels like a quality experience, and that is what you get. I started with the broiled oysters and they were excellent. We are trying to stay away from raw oysters so the broiled oysters were a nice compromise. The flavor was perfect: not fishy, no smell, no weird aftertaste. I would get them again. The wife started with the beet and burrata salad and loved it. For entrees, I had the center cut filet mignon and it was perfect. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked to medium exactly as I requested. I added a baked potato and it was enormous, enough to be an entree unto itself. It was covered with bacon bits, sour cream, and a cheese sauce that reminded me of nacho cheese. I could not possibly eat it all because it was so large. The wife had the lamb chops and they were incredible. The meat is melt in your mouth tender. No strong lamb flavor. I am not a big lamb fan but I have to say, it was really really good. She added the chipotle creamed corn on the side and it was very good. Drinks: I can't forget the drinks. I had some Mexican martinis and they were excellent. A sour and tangy drink that quickly becomes addictive. The wife had a mezcal drink that with the words "illegal" in the title but I don't remember the full name. Wow, it was good. It has mezcal, mole bitters, and something else. The drink is smoky, slightly sweet, and completely captivating. I could drink about five of those! The wife limited herself to two. Dessert: I had some kind of pastry with pears and blue cheese. It was good but I really don't know why I ordered it since I was already completely full from the steak and potato. The wife and kid shared some kind of chocolate ball thing that I did not really pay attention to because I was helping the wife with her second mezcal drink. They loved the dessert. We waddled back to our room, completely stuffed and feeling fine from the drinks. The meal was expensive, but the quality is there. The chef or chefs are very talented. I don't mind paying a lot if you get high quality, and Old Hickory delivered. We will be back! read more

We were there celebrating my birthday and a first date, and "exceptional" doesn't even begin to cover it. From the stunning recent renovations to the cozy, upscale ambiance, everything was perfect. ​The service was the highlight of our night. Our server, Lu, was attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel like the only people in the room. The GM, David Carlos, also went out of his way to ensure our experience was unforgettable. It is rare to see a management team so invested in their guests' happiness. ​The food was easily the best I've ever had. We started with the Texan Charcuterie Board and the Lobster Bisque, both of which were rich and flavorful. For the main event, the Wagyu Porterhouse was cooked to absolute perfection. We paired it with the Roasted Texas Mushrooms, Habanero Creamed Sunglow Corn, and two types of potatoes--the Perfect Baked Potato and the Yukon Gold Mashed. Every bite was a 10/10. ​To finish, Lu surprised me with the Cacao Pulse for my birthday, and we also shared the Pumpkin Silhouette. The service was impeccable. We didn't realize we walked in after closing since it was only 8:35 and they still insisted on accommodating my friend and I. They gave us a glass of great champagne for taking some time to come to the table and some sides. The creamed corn was perfectly creamy and spicy, potatoes were perfectly whipped and buttery, risotto was the best thing 10/10. I loved my blt wedge salad. Perfectly dressed and seasoned. My flight was canceled, so I stayed at the Gaylord Texas and treated myself to a steakhouse dinner. I stopped by the absolutely beautiful bar and spoke to the bar manager, Ashley. She ensured I would have a table all to myself at 7 p.m. on a Saturday night for dinner. Upon arrival, there was live music with a Frank Sinatra tribute. It was fantastic and definitely set the mood. I was seated in a corner seat in the bar, where I would have privacy to work and enjoy my meal. Of course, I ordered the peach burreta and the cheese board. I couldn't eat it all, but I sat and nibbled on it for a few hours while enjoying the music. My servers were absolutely fantastic. Two hours later, I wanted a steak, so I ordered the filet, and it was cooked perfectly. The peach bureeta was refreshing and transferred me from a restaurant to a beach, the cheese board was delicious; however, there was a bright orange cheese I would not ever try again, but the filet with the peppers and onions was fantastic. Best steak ever! Old Hickory Steakhouse in the Gaylord Texan was an absolutely amazing dining experience. I made a reservation for Valentine's day, parked in the garage, and found the restaurant in just a few minutes. The host was polite and sat my wife and I quickly after validating my parking ticket. The upstairs entrance has a bar and lounge to the side while the large dining area is downstairs. Our waitress was friendly and attended to our table in an extremely timely manner. they have a wonderful selection on their menu and the food arrived very quickly. we were brought twisted bread to start which was warm and soft with whipped, salted butter. We ordered east coast oysters and pacific blue crab cake as appetizers along with white wine pairings of pinot grigio and chardonnay. the oysters were delectable with the perfect toppings and the crab cake was delicious. we were then brought our steaks- a 14oz NY strip and a 10oz bone in filet mignon. the best we've ever had! so juicy, so flavorful, and cooked perfectly (rare and medium rare, of course). we ordered the crème a poivre and espresso horseradish crema as sauces for the steaks. the sides of parmesan truffle fries and caesar style grilled broccolini were mouthwatering. we paired a pinot noir with our main meal. finally, we were brought a small plate of chocolate covered strawberries as a Valentine's treat. the waitress and chef were happy to talk to us to give us more information when we asked for it. the ambience of the restaurant was very nice and we enjoyed getting to walk around the interior of the hotel afterwards. the price matches the exquisite dining experience. read more

This is the upscale restaurant in Gaylord Texan Resort. Ambience is what you expect Texas to look like as a visitor. Very grand with lots of wood and iron. The dress is maybe business attire. The staff was welcoming. The Food very much caters to the idea of everything in Texas is bigger. I had the baked potato which had a melted cheese and bacon bits but I couldn't figure out the consistency. The potato was super huge and under cooked. The baby gem salad was over dressed and had the same odd textured and tasting bacon bits. The meal was just ok. Level set your expectations. Think conference, touristy, and the "Texas" experience. I think a visitor in Grapevine would enjoy the experience. As a local, I likely wouldn't return. read more

We came to Old Hickory for our first night stay at the Gaylord and I am glad we did. This steakhouse did fantastic job from beginning to end. Just a short walk from our room, we arrived a little early and waited for just a few minutes until we were seated right on time of our reservations. The experience was PEFECT. We were greeted in seconds by our waiters and given water and incredibly delicious selection of rolls and flatbread. Great venue and lots of electricity in the air. Many large parties especially since the convention was 5000+ people. Very comfortable noise level so speaking across the table was easy. I am not a big fan of loud unless Im in a bar or pub. The next time the waiter came, greeted us and proudly (yes proudly) again explained the menu. Everything sounded so good. My wife and I knew what we were having ahead of time since we went through all the selections at home, on-line. We went with the New York Strip and Sea Bass. The main meals were fantastic. They also did a great job on the salads. Their asparagus was perfect and we both enjoyed the garlic mashed potatoes. The strip was wonderful and tasty, (my wife let me try a piece and even brought some back to the room for next day lunch.) It was perfectly cooked, tasty and juicy. Was there any fat on this at all? It was good, I mean really really good. The Sea Bass was amazing.. This could have be the best piece I have ever had. Miso-Orange Vadouvan Parsnip, and Mousseline. Went back for a side by side comparison of the Cowboy Steak v the 8oz filet mignon. Again, our server was amazing. Both were prepared a perfect medium. Both could be cut with a fork....literally. The filet was just so soft and tender. The Cowboy steak was also soft and buttery. The filet was a softer and more tender chew. As far as flavor goes, the Cowboy wins. It just has so much 'natural' flavor, rendered from the marbled fat. The filet also had lots of 'added' flavor from the salt & pepper seasoning. Both were excellent, but I am a filet man, so I would say the filet mignon wins by a nose. Another factor to help decide which to pick: the filet is 8oz. The Cowboy Steak is 24oz. So, I guess you'd get the latter if you're really hungry or if you intend to share with others. The filet is certainly enough for one. read more

As a vegan I wouldn't pick a steakhouse for dinner, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to eat here with my husband's company event tonight. The food and service were excellent and although there was no vegan item on the menu I asked our waitress for a vegan option and she brought me a spring greens salad with vinaigrette and a mushroom and spring pea risotto, which were both delicious. This is saying a lot for me because it was the first mushroom dish I've ever enjoyed. The mushrooms were sliced thin and cooked to a crispy, salty texture and flavor, the risotto was creamy and the peas were firm. It was flavorful and altogether very good. I was here for a work conference and on the flight to Texas I was told this place was excellent and I must say I agree! The ambiance is very beautiful. Low lighting and the noise level is well managed for how many people are in the restaurant. The staff was fantastic. As mentioned in other posts I am gluten intolerant and the staff was so accommodating! Everything was prepared in a very safe way for me and that is so appreciated. Now onto the food. Bread: They brought out GF bread for me and for my coworker their normal basket. The GF bread was excellent. Honestly it was a delight to have that provided. Most of the time I don't get bread because restaurants don't have that as an option. Appetizers: lobster bisque and shrimp cocktail The lobster bisque is poured out right in front of you. My coworker described it as a unique take on lobster bisque with some of the flavors but he said it was still very good. Shrimp cocktail was delicious. My ONLY complaint was one of the shrimp were not cleaned properly so I had to finish doing that but other than that one they are excellent! Large and fresh with great cocktail sauce to go along with it! Main dish: New York strip steak with black truffle butter. The black truffle butter is an extra charge but SO WORTH IT! The steak was cooked to perfection which I expect from a place like this and they fully delivered. My side veggies were altered to be gluten free and they were delicious! Side: whipped potatoes. These were very creamy and very rich. I liked that I could order a half size of a side so this was the perfect amount for me! This was a fantastic meal and a great way to end a successful work day! I dined here twice in a week since I was staying at the hotel for a convention. The first experience was great. The steak was properly cooked and all the sides were hot. The second time they missed several items. The steak was not cooked to order and the sides were less than warm. The service was great both times. I sat with a group in the private dining area. It's a great room with music playing and it has a nice, cozy feel to it. You can hear other guests easily so you don't have to talk loud. Great place, just not consistent food prep. My favorite things about this place are all the staff, so attentive and polite, plus the bar makes a great martini. It's a shame the food doesn't quite cut it. I ordered the Billionaires Baked potato, when you look it up on the menu it quotes "seasonal truffles and caviar". What I got was a very nice sized potato however the "caviar" was actually Ikura and the truffle flavor, wherever it was, was barely detectable. Apparently it was in some butter? In which case they should say, truffle butter, however that didn't make me taste it anymore. Plus it was smothered in Queso, which was also not listed. ultimately it was just a large baked potato with Queso and bacon shavings for $34. Then I ordered the Not a donut. It looked so beautiful. However the gelee was so gloopy and mousse was gelatin heavy. Plus the pistachios just didn't go well with the dish, and the 2 different berry forms didn't make any sense. Looked amazing, tasted terrible. I hope this review makes them refocus on flavor rather than presentation. read more

Live band and dim lighting. Service- This convention center was accommodating many large parties the night I visited. Managment could've done a better job of reseating the rowdy bunch adjacent to all the couples in booths. The waitress had sass when I asked if she could box my items. I was insistent because I wasn't sure If she had heard me when the first request was given. I understood it was busy but patron needs to be treated with kindness. Disclaimer: this review is for apps and drinks only. I attended a networking event at Old Hickory Steakhouse while staying at the Gaylord for a work conference. I'm not the biggest red meat eater, but I actually have been to a number of steakhouses due to them being a favorite among companies to host educational events. That being said, I was looking forward to seeing what Old Hickory had to offer. OHS is located off the main lobby area of the Gaylord close to the convention center. Walking in, you're immediately greeted by a staircase which leads down to the main dining area. The decor is more upscale compared to the other restaurants at the Gaylord - it has that typical masculine feel that I've seen at other steakhouses. The color scheme is mostly brown tones with higher-end fixtures and aesthetics - it looked great. In lieu of ordering off the menu, we were offered a few of their apps as well as access to the bar. I tried this tomato salad what was topped with crumbled cheese, pork belly, shrimp, and steak kabobs. Everything was pretty good; the steak was fine, not the best I've had but it could have been worse. The shrimp was good, they were big which I appreciated and were paired with a sauce that complemented the flavor. The pork belly was fine, but a little tough and salty. Drinks were fine - I had a glass of cabernet which was pretty good and a Cuba Libre which was good as well. Service was good - everyone was really friendly, especially at the bar. Overall, I had fine experience at OHS - I would be interested to check out their full menu to see how they compare to other steakhouses. At the very least, they're a more upscale option if you're looking for a higher-end meal while at the Gaylord. read more

They even recommended some things on the menu and constantly checked up on my table. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu & was extremely attentive to our needs. The wait staff did amazing clearing the table in a timely manner for our next course. Now, the food... OMG, by far the best ribeye I've had in my life. It was buttery and cooked to perfection (medium). I also had the Lobster Bisque for appetizer and it was amazing. For sides, we had the lobster Mac & cheese (9/10), habanero corn (10/10), and the white asparagus & cauliflower (9/10), all were exceptional dishes. This restaurant was such a pleasant surprise! Our connecting flight was cancelled at DFW and we were put up in this hotel for two nights. We had zero expectations of having such a nice meal in such a "family friendly" hotel so we were pretty blown away by the Old Hickory Steakhouse. It was New Years Eve and we somehow managed to snag the last reservation available for dinner - lucky us! The restaurant is located down a curved staircase from the main level and has beautiful ambience. We were sat within five minutes of our reservation and John was our server. Can't say enough about John - great server! Very pleasant and his timing was perfect! We really weren't that hungry so we shared a wedge salad, lobster bisque and the sea bass as our main - all were delicious, well presented and good size.
