Terrible service and management, WILL NOT BE SHOPPING HERE AGAIN. Yes the produce is okay, however…read moreI cannot ignore the terrible aura coming from some of the people there. The "manager" is constantly yelling and snapping, making the entire environment extremely stressful. I go there to have calm shopping time, plan my next meals, and overall have quiet time. This usually isn't a problem as I like to come early in the morning, before it gets busy I hear. However even when it is slow, I still get attitude from certain people there. I've talked to the short blonde old lady a few times, and every single time she is extremely rude to me, or I see her mistreating her employees. I've had problems in the past, last year I bought a rotten watermelon, and after trying to get his attention for FIVE minutes (too busy listening to his airpods) the young man refused to give me a refund. INFURIATING. I cannot fathom coming back ever again. Most of the younger folk are very polite and helpful, but have no time to actually help because they're always being micromanaged by the older ones. I've started to dread grocery shopping and will definitely be taking my business somewhere else.

The kids they had playing cashier were helpful and had some basic training with the machine (shocker, right?). The fruits and veggies looked good, with things clearly labeled when they were pesticide free and local. The best part is the Bargain Bags! They are eclectic, to say the least, but only a dollar! Here's the three I got... 1) The biggest eggplant I've ever seen, with a dozen jalapeño peppers and a few anaheims. 2) 5 baking potatoes, two dozen golf-ball-size red potatoes, and 2 Roma tomatoes. 3) Two and a half pounds of slightly soft strawberries. Hello, fruit leather! All that for 3 bucks! I also bought 6 large apples and a small squash, bringing my total to $7.34. Yeah, a week's of produce for less than $7.50! Go before they close on Halloween!

When I moved to Idaho, it was with hopes that the only time I'd ever be reminded of Detroit would…read morebe during a Chrysler ad when I couldn't fast-forward through a Monday Night Football commercial break. So I felt a brick in the pit of my stomach the first time I strolled in to Stonehenge Produce and spied bottles of Faygo® Red Pop nudged in between the Sioux City Sarsaparilla and a small-batch root beer in their soda coolers. Folks, Faygo® is the reason for the downfall of society. Case in point? The Insane Clown Posse. But if one looks beyond the Faygo® - and the perpetual blanks on the shelves of Stonehenge's Shaker-style pie cabinet - there's a lot to like about Stonehenge Produce. And although this location on Overland pales in comparison to the original Stonehenge white barn on Fairview, the Overland Stonehenge does a fair job of providing locally- or regionally-sourced produce, dairy, eggs, meats, and treats, to residents of Boise's southeast side. Such services are of particular utility between Halloween and April, when the farmers markets are hibernating, leaving Stonehenge as one of the only places to procure farm-fresh eggs. And for those trying their hand at cheesemaking, Stonehenge carries Cloverleaf whole milk and Natural Farm Fresh raw milk. I also take out-of-towners to Stonehenge for local honey, spice blends, pastas, and jellies. My main issues with Stonehenge include the remarkably short shelf life of their produce (my bosc pears liquefied within two days of purchase), and their lack of fresh cuts of meat (all local meats at Stonehenge are frozen). I can overlook the Faygo®. But if ever a Detroit-style coney island opens up in Boise, consider my bags packed. *** CASH OR CHECK ONLY ***

I couldn't sleep last night so of course I decided to do some research on some local bakeries in…read moreour area. I am always down for something sweet! I have driven by this shop a million times but never got the chance to make it in. After checking out all their photos and goodies off their website, making my way in today was a must. The shop is very small and intimate. You are immediately greeted by all the goodies as soon as you walk in. Colorful macarons, the cutest cheesecakes and beautifully displayed scones and muffins. The display case is nice and bright, allowing you to be able to see the details and coloring of each macaron. The pretty piping on the cheesecake. The fun layers of the cakes. It was hard not to want one of each thing out of the case. It was our first visit for my daughter and I. As a new customer, you're trying to absorb everything about this store. You want to look at all your options! The gal that initially was going to help us pretty much just stood there and stared at us. Didn't really talk to us. Didn't ask if we had any questions. She had the most unpleasant look on her face. It honestly made me feel so unwanted and uncomfortable to be at the shop. I offered to let another customer go ahead of us so she wasn't just standing there waiting for us to order something. The second customer also needed some time. Finally a gentleman came in and she got him some coffee started. Another gal was working and she helped us. At that point, I was so turned off about getting anything but we were already there so we decided to grab a few things. My daughter and I decided to share a 6 pack of macarons. We snagged lemon, birthday cake, coffee, chocolate, creme brulee and cookies and cream as our flavor choices. She also got a red velvet cheesecake for us to share after dinner tonight. On our ride home, we broke that box of macarons open and had to try them all. The lemon was sweet and tangy, I love the lemon custard in the middle. Birthday cake reminds me of a pink frosted animal cookie. The chocolate was my favorite! Very chocolate forward and sweet. Coffee reminded me of a vanilla latte in cookie form. Cookies and cream was much like cookies and cream ice cream. More cream forward and less chocolate cookie. Creme brulee had sugar toasted on top which created a slight bitterness to the cookie but it was balanced with how sweet the cookie was. All 6 macarons were fabulous! I look forward to having the red velvet cheesecake after dinner tonight. I like that there are so many gluten free options at this bakery. I adore how petite and prettily decorated the pastries were. I appreciate that this joint is local as I love supporting local businesses. But, first impressions are so huge for me and my first impression of their customer service wasn't there for me. You can push out great products all you want but how you make someone feel during their purchase can make or break your business. As fantastic as my macarons were, all I can think about was how uncomfortable I was when I was just being stared at. Macarons and cheesecake can be purchased at a few joints in our valley. I'm happy I got to enjoy some goodies with my daughter but I'm going to go support another local business that will actually make me feel like a valued customer and not a bother.

I remembered that Flourish has mini cakes. Just needed a serving for two for my husband's birthday…read more And what a winner this German chocolate cake was! And gluten free to boot. It was a work of art with delicious flavor!

This is my first time trying Basque style…read moretapas, which for those that have been to Spain or had tapas, is quite adjacent to Catalonian style tapas (Barcelona) but with different types of ingredients. We tried the pintxos of the day (3 for $10) - seafood and chorizo gratin, goat cheese and zucchini compote, and sardine bollo with lemon aioli; Basque meatballs with Sheepherder's bread, and braised lamb and potatoes. We also shared a frozen sangria which is a white wine slush with a splash of red wine float. All the food is amazing - the Basque meatballs is a bit on the saltier side but the Sheepherder's bread is so crispy and buttery! Among the pintxos, I loved the seafood and chorizo gratin the most, but all are delicious. The braised lamb and potatoes are good - the lamb is juicy while the potatoes were flavorful and slightly crispy. Service is good for an order at the counter style establishment - servers still walk around and check up on customers, even though the rest of the experience (filling water, etc) is more self-serve.

Although this is 30 minutes from our front door, it is our go to when we're looking for pastured pork or poultry products. (We don't eat beef but they have that too.) If they had a good selection of local lamb cuts it would be golden for us - our favorite protein - but it is a harder sell for them so they carry less. (Americans consume on average only 1 pound of lamb / person / year. And about 97 pounds of chicken per person annually. Both are shocking numbers.) We purchased bone-in pork shoulder from Malheur which I boned and cut up for Asado de Bodas (aka Mexican wedding stew, I think, sort of mole meets asado de puerco) cutting off the beautiful fresh fat cap to render down for sauteing the veg, and using the bone to make a pork broth to freeze for pozole sometime in the future. And if you like to cook Italian food, Malheur made jowl bacon (otherwise known in Italy as guanciale) this winter which was sold here and is THE perfect thing for carbonara and Amatriciana sauces. My Brooklyn born hubby is Italian heritage and grew up with an Italian speaking nonna in the kitchen so we have used a lot of guanciale - not in Boise though where it is hard to find - and this is the best we have ever used. Still not carrying much fresh market produce but they have added Acme Bread to the line up and on Saturdays I think Acme rotates in a special kind of loaf. From time to time they have had "meet the maker" tastings on Saturdays for some of the vendors they carry. And here's a tip you'll thank me for - if they have local Morning Star Acres jam on the shelf, buy it. Especially the huckleberry! SERVICE: The owner is on site almost all the time, very friendly, very responsive to FB messaging if you have questions about something in stock and always able to help by phone too before making a trip if you're looking for something specific. SET UP: Small but with a good expanse of windows it is light and bright and well organized with refrigerator / freezer case along one wall, larder / pantry shelving next to that with food products for sale and other items - like local artists and crafters goods for sale- also placed around the store. ACCESSIBILITY: ADA parking correctly designed for van access striping on the passenger side adjacent to building. Small ramp up to sidewalk. All on one floor. Ample floor clearance. The loo fails ADA and Idaho code compliance with counters and towel dispenser too high. The eat in counter has only high stool level seating so inaccessible. The ADA is 30 years old in July and it is past time to get this right everywhere for equal access. (Yep. I have a dog in this hunt since I have had MS since college.) LOCATION: In the Bench neighborhood right across from Idaho Youth Ranch thrift shop and just next door to a Vincent St. Paul sales store. PARKING: Private lot has about 15 parking spaces.
