Most of the reviews for Cliff's Market are based on Cliff owning it. In fact, Google shows that he is the owner. As of a few years ago, it has a new owner. While the food is organic, it is rarely local anymore. Not nearly the store it used to be. I suppose if you live in Caldwell or west Nampa it would be worth going to this store that seems to be set up in a temporary shelter, but the prices are as high as Whole Foods and Boise Co-op without the service, style, variety or the sales items. I've gone a few times over the years and each time I'm there I ask myself "why didn't I just go to the Co-op? At least at the Co-op you can get help and they have sales as well as a far, far superior variety and quality of items. read more

These long time owner retiring from local, small grocery stories almost never have the happy ending of this one! Because when Cliff Metcalf and his wife decided to retire in October 2022, with their seventies nearly in rear view I hear, him being in grocery his entire career and them owning Cliff's market since 1997, there was a local young rancher husband and wife ready to to buy this business and keep it running as local market with a focus on organic produce, locally sourced products as much as possible, and now with a freezer featuring expanded selection of local, humanely husbanded, pasture raised animal proteins too given the owners are the Cunninghams of Cunningham Pastured Meats. What is really astounding is that with a young family of six children, one an infant, and running a farm ranch and a meat storage business that the Cunninhams have the energy to take this on too in their work for the community. Less than a month into new ownership it is still a little bit of a work in progress. Cliff's was known for an expansive gluten free baking goods section, I don't know the back story on that as to why but there it was, and it looks as if some of that will be retained with the new owners. If I could wave my magic wand I'd have them add a scale in the produce section because it has always been so that the only way to weigh produce is to take ot to the main registers to do it then go back to produce to add as needed. LOCATION: Just a few blocks off of downtown Caldwell. PARKING: Good sized, striped lot. ACCESSIBILITY: Level into the store from the parking lot. As of 9/27/24, I look at Cliffs from when I first started shopping a year ago. I absolutely loved it, had the small town produce store vibe to it and I love how it was set up. I go in every week to get my groceries, the staff was always super friendly, welcoming and helpful. Usually have local and special items available which I loved. But as I am noticing more and more changes to grow as a whole and make more money it's loosing it's small town vibe for me. Small changes make big impact on people myself included. I love mom and pop stores they are the best, I used to work at one when I lived in WA but once they got bought by a corporation or money became the focus a lot changed and the feel overall got ruined. I love Cliffs but I'm not sure if I want to shop here anymore. read more

What a nice find in the 2C! If you want a good selection of organic selection, this place is for you. Also seems to have a good selection of local products. Finding a good selection of fresh produce in the middle of winter is nice, but be prepared to pay for what you gat. Very nice employees. Lots of local products. New to Idaho and looking for Organic Groceries and came across this place. It is unfortunately not located in the town we live in but not excessive far away. The Produce is really fresh and an excellent selection of Organic items. The people are extremely friendly especially the Cashiers (Feather and Olivia). This was our second trip and they remembered our names and greeted us upon our arrival. It's a small store but feels very homey and reminds me of other small Grocery stores I went to growing up. They have unique items you would not find in the larger stores. Some things are higher priced than the larger stores but the convenience of this store makes it ok. We will definitely be back and will be recommending to others. read more

Cliff's is a great local market on the edge of Caldwell. They carry mostly organic produce and hard-to-find specialty foods like gluten free and non-dairy products. They have their own baked goods some of which are gluten free. Pies, jams, salsa, did I say pies?? This is the local place to get specialty foods and at the same time support local business and the community. We purchased delicious peaches from Cliff's and vanilla ice cream from Clover Creamery. The peaches made a great peace crisp, and the ice cream was excellent and took my mom back to her childhood! I love the friendly service and family atmosphere of shopping at Cliff's- they will continue to get my business when I'm in the market for special items. read more

Came here for the first time last week (and went back the day after!). They have such a huge selection of produce. I've never seen so many different types of apples in one place! They make a lot of things in house like their jams, salsas, and baked goods. We've tried their pumpkin bread, sticky bun, apple cake, and homemade salsa and we loved all of it! Our favorite was probably the sticky bun. The inside was so soft and the outside had a delicious crunchy texture. It had the perfect amount of caramel without it being too sweet or sticky. We love how reasonably priced they are especially with all the organic and locally made food they sell. Their workers are extremely nice and they make it such a wonderful grocery shopping experience. We can't wait to go back and try the other foods they have to offer! read more

I've been to Cliff's twice in the past month. They have a fairly large selection of organic fruits and vegetables at surprisingly reasonable prices. They have "sale" items and this past week it was organic Honeycrisp apples for 99-cents/lb. which is about half of what you'd pay at the grocery store. They have probably 8 different kinds of apples - all at reasonable prices, same with the oranges. I find their vegetable selection to be significant as well, but those prices seem to be higher. For example, organic zucchini was $2.99/lb. But like I said, a good variety of things, several different types of onions and potatoes and tomatoes and cabbages. I have not checked out the "other" things like packaged goods, but they seem to have quite a bit of those things - like granola and jams and such. The only thing that bugs me about this place is that they only have 2 scales and they are at the registers. So, if you are on a budget and want to know how much something will cost, you have to keep walking up to the front and using the scale there .... that may be in use by the cashier. That's OK though, I'm still a fan of Cliff's. read more

I heard some good things about Cliffs. I work just around the corner and decide to stop by. They have a great selection of fresh produce and other natural items. I have never really and truly understood the importance of organic trend. I can't tell the difference. For that reason I can't give an honest opinion on the things I bought. I know "organic" is more expensive, so based on that I'm sure the price was fair. The store was very clean and staff were friendly. I drive from Boise, just to shop at this little gem of a store. Our family uses a lot of gluten-free products and Cliff's is by far one of the best . They bake GF breads, pies and cookies, loaves of zucchini bread, banana bread, etc. My only request is that they put cooking times on the pies. Almost everything is organic too. I am so happy to have discovered this little market. So clean and well organized and the employees are very helpful and friendly. I found the produce to be very fresh and there is a nice variety and many organic options. The organic honeycrisp apples were only .79 per pound on the day I was there. They stock lots of spices and gluten free products. We picked up some fresh eggs and bread too. There are some homemade gift items that are at a very reasonable price. I've been to Cliff's many times over the years but this week was the first time I tried something from their in-store bakery. I got a gluten-free banana bread and it was AMAZALICIOUS. Yes, I had to make up a word to describe just how good that banana bread was. It reminded me of my mom's. And it actually tasted like bananas. Imagine that. In the past few months I've tried several local and/or store-bought brands and they didn't taste like bananas at all. This bread was obviously made with real bananas that were fully ripened. Even my kids, who seem to be able to pick out (and turn their noses up to) gluten-free food liked it! In addition to their baked goods, Cliff's has a serious commitment to using local, non-GMO produce. And the most amazing thing to me is that they are able to keep their prices so low. Kale costs the same as a neighboring big supermarket. Peaches on a recent visit were .99 a pound. A large basket of tomatoes on the clearance rack was 1.00. Cliff's also has tons of bulk food and sometimes hard-to-find supplies for raw food or gluten-free eaters. The last time I was there I discovered almond meal, xanthan gum, flaxseed meal, and many other items that can be used for paleo or GF baking. Aside from their extensive bulk supplies, fruits, veggies, and baked goods, they also carry raw milk (cow and goat), snacks, dry goods (like my favorite GF pasta, Tinkyada, that is no longer available in some of the larger stores I shop in), and lots of freezer case items (breads, ice creams, etc). During planting season they also carry non-GMO, organic seed and starter plants from Canyon Bounty Farm (among others). The only downsides to Cliff's are: 1. I've repeatedly asked for non-GMO fresh papaya. Yes, it's a long shot, but I figured if anyone could pull it off it would Cliff's. Alas, I have to settle for buying it (GMO) at a bigger store. 2. It's so far away from me. If I lived in Caldwell, this is the probably the only place I would shop. It's a bit of a trek from Nampa, and if you're in Boise you might as well pack a lunch and a gallon of water and take the drive with the intention of stocking up on everything you can. One of the hidden markets that people love. This is a great market. They're open year round, and their foods are always fresh and locally growth produce is always featured. If you are a special diet, Gluten-Free, Low-Carb..etc.. This is the place to find those hard to find things, along with the FRESH veggies. I really can't say enough good things about Cliff's! They have local grass fed beef, local eggs, local milk, raw milk, and goat milk, as well as a large variety of gluten free and health foods. Before I begin this review, let me just say that I have no affiliation with Cliff or his market whatsoever...aside from the fact that I recently discovered it through a Facebook post from a friend, so I went there to check it out and I will forever be loyal. If you have not seen Cliff's Facebook page, please do! It is amazingly informative and you will be a believer in Cliff's passion to bring only the safest, best-quality food to his customers. I recently made some significant changes in my health and lifestyle after living a life of toxicity and abuse to my own body for many years. I have always been misinformed and ignorant about what I put into my body and truly thought a Lean Cuisine or anything that said "Multigrain" on it was a "healthy" choice. I have done a 180 since then. I have transformed my life and body in a very short period of time simply by educating myself via reading books about nutrition and the food industry, documentaries (watch Food Inc. and Forks over Knives to start if you'd like to see some good ones) and finding informative Facebook pages and YouTube channels. I had no idea how blind I was to what happens to our food and how critical it is that we take control of our own health and what we eat, because the government and standardized medicine has little to no desire for the general population to be healthy. Once I became educated, I slowly worked my way into what has become a mostly Vegan lifestyle and will go out of my way to avoid cancer-causing pesticides and to buy organic. Unfortunately, I live in Nampa and thought my only options to buy healthy foods were large corporately-run stores, such as Rosauers, Trader Joes, and Whole Foods. I think it was no coincidence that I stumbled upon Cliff's Facebook page. The moment I walked into his store, I was in food heaven. THIS is the place to buy healthy, non-GMO foods. Not to mention they bake their own non-GMO pies, breads, granola, etc. and it smells heavenly! Additionally, when I go there, I feel like I have gone back in time to a place where employees CARE. I have never dealt with friendlier, more down-to-earth people than at Cliff's.
