Me and my daughter went in for dinner. The waitress brought my daughters food out and said mine would be a couple of minutes. 15 minutes later my daughters meal was gone and they gave me a 10% discount on her meal. NEVER got my meal. I was craving sushi SO bad! I was pretty disappointed with the quality of food here. Ordered the vegetable ramen, all of which was way over cooked to where it was mush. The vegetables consisted of broccoli and zucchini....that's it. Noodles and veggies just melted away it was so over done. California roll was OK but totally fell apart with the most gentle handling. Vegetable tempura was fairly good. Veggies could've been cooked a little longer. Not sure that I'd go back again which is too bad since they're the only sushi place in town. read more

Place is really good, staff is awesome. Food is exceptional,. I visit this place often, almost everytime I visit my second home, in Jackson. Very exquisite menu, definitely not short on selection, and EVERYTHING is so good! Not only do they make good food, but they make it in front of you, putting on a stylish show. UPDATE: 03-28-13: I stopped going here almost two years ago after I personally saw cockroaches IN THE SUSHI at the sushi bar on two occasions within a few weeks of each other. I know countless others who said they saw the same thing. I have been told by many locals that the county health department has received many complaints about the cockroaches. I have not been back since, so I can only assume since they're still open that they have cleaned up their game. The sad thing is the people who run Oko are very nice so I hate to stop going there, but my health is more important. Oko owners/staff, please clean up your restaurant. I hope you do and I hope you can reestablish your business. Original Review: When you live in Jackson, CA, you just assume you're going to eat like crap with all of the fast food joints pawing at your car as you lollygag down highway 88 or 49 behind the old ladies in their Pintos with freshly frosted hairdos. And be careful, those ladies don't stop for NOBODY! It's not really their fault, they just can't see anymore. When you realize your quality eating options in Amador county are limited to about 4 restaurants, you need not panic. Stop by Oko Sushi for relief! The best sushi in Gold Country! The service is amazing and the owners are great. I recommend the Lion King roll as far as the sushi.

I eat here fairly regularly and the food is always good and the service has always been good to excellent. Maybe the food is geared toward the less adventurous palate but that's what I expect here and it's fine with me. If I want something "more" I know to go somewhere else and prepare to pay for it. In the past, this place has been good... Not great, but consistently good. Today, I had only what I can describe as stale sushi, I didn't know sushi could taste stale, but it did. I had the Jackson roll. The shrimp in the roll was rubbery and flavorless along with the rest of the ingredients. The vegetable tempura also was stale and greasy. This very disappointing meal, including tip, came to $30.00 what a waste of money! I told the waitress, but nothing other than to ask my why, why what? I didn't prepare it or serve it! Sushi is my parents' favorite food, so I grew up with it, frequenting restaurants in LA and SF over the years. I realize different chefs make things differently, but this one takes the prize. Just tonight, a friend ordered Chirashi (sashimi slices on top of a bowl of rice) and it was really an embarrassment. 12 pieces of fish, sliced paper thin, of only 3 varieties, and one of the three is cooked shrimp. I was so embarrassed that I suggested the restaurant to our friends from the Bay Area. I had a sashimi combination. My 6 pieces of fish weigh more than my friend's 12 pieces of sashimi on her Chirashi, but they were terribly cut. They were cut in cubes instead of slices, so they were hard to chew. I think if the restaurant runs out of fish, the chef should be upfront and ask us to order something else. In my 50+ years, I have to say this is absolutely the worst Japanese restaurant I've been to, and I've been to, conservatively speaking, probably over 200 of them. read more

We ate at this restaurant with myself, my husband, and our 3 kids. We ordered both sushi and the bento box. The Bento boxes are small and pricey and the standalone sushi is just so, so. I do have to say that the service was HORRIBLE. They had a handful of waitresses that all seemed to be talking and not working. Just left this place, started out good.we were welcomed and seated by a nice lady. We were asked if there was anything we would like to drink and we ordered soft drinks, and then we have our orders. I ordered the sashimi combo and the wife ordered the special salad noodles. The fish was not fresh, but I ate it anyway. You can get better sushi at the Safeway across the parking lot. And it won't cost you half as much. I ordered the zigzag temaki roll, which the menu said had soft shell crab and avocado. What I received looked and tasted more like someone had vomited half a cup of mayo into some rice, threw a few chunks of detritus in for good measure, and rolled it in soy wrap. I also ordered an Ichiban roll which was to have a variety of fish, but the thing was so drenched in heavy sauce that I couldn't taste any fish at all. A waste of $20 that left me pretty irritated- I could have gotten a sandwich at Togos and been far happier, and then filled my gas tank for that price. I had the happy family roll and the catalina roll. Both were good and filling. It's a little pricy but we had good service during our lunch even with a seven week baby in tow. It's a miracle that Amador county has a restaurant like this. This is not the greatest sushi place in the world, I'm not naive. But considering the area, it's some of the best food you're going to get. People from the Bay Area might be a little disappointed if they happen to be used to fresher fish and more variety, but this is Gold Country, and this IS variety. The facilities themselves are clean and neat. The wait staff is so-so, there is room for improvement, but I've never been treated poorly. They can be forgetful, at times, and it seems to me as though they only hire introverts, so don't go there if you're looking to chat up the chef. I've seen better portion sizes, but what they offer still manages to fill me up just fine. Very happy to have a place like this in an otherwise fairly culturally deficit area. read more

I honestly love Oko Sushi, I've been coming here for 7+ years once or twice each month. The staff is amazing and the service is fast. I wouldn't exactly call the sushi exceptional or anything special, but the sushi is very good and not very expensive. If you're looking for a large selection of rare fish, this may not be the place for you. But, if you're just looking for a casual lunch spot, a romantic date, or anything in between Oko Sushi is the place to go. Now I am 12 so maybe I just like the non-raw sushi options, but this place is very kid friendly. There are plenty of things kids will definitely like ( I've been coming since I was 4-5) Chicken and Rice, soup, California rolls, you name it! There are also raw options which I don't like as much but are still delicious. 10/10 would recommend as a long time customer. read more

It's supposed to have spicy crab and tempura shrimp in the middle but I subbed and paid more for spicy tuna....I'm not sure If you can tell but there is barely any tuna in the middle considering it was $2 extra. We liked the food at Oko Sushi and Teriyaki over several visits, and our last visit was also very good. Of 4 bento boxes (lunches), all in our party liked their food. My son and I had the Beef Teriyaki; this rib eye was tasty and delicious, and plenty of it. The other 2 entrees, chicken and tempura, were also enjoyed. I like the option to select a side from 4 choices, I like the tempura best. Not a conoissuer of sushi, so can't comment on that. Service was quite good, including our waitress promptly accommodating special requests. I would be very skeptical of people claiming they had insects in or near their food; sounds like malicious falsehoods to me. I was really impressed by the good value of all the meals we had, and we'll be returning as soon as possible. read more

I was here in November 2013. The waitress answered all our questions, very friendly service. Food was very fresh and tasted great. I was surprised there was a sushi restaurant in the area and glad I stopped in. Being from Napa CA the prices were great for the amount of food you got.
