Recently moved to PG from Sac area & was in search of a new sushi spot. My hubby found this & we saw the good reviews & decided to give it a shot. We were NOT disappointed! The restaurant is small, but you don't feel overly crowded. It was busy (Fri evening), but we got seated right away at the bar. It was such an experience eating sushi in front of the fish tank! The food was DELICIOUS & fresh! We got complimentary edamame to start, which was your average dish. We got miso soup, & it was very flavorful. I can't remember the names of the rolls we got, but they were all spicy (our fave kind!) & 1 was recommended by our waitress (who was amazing). This will be our new go-to sushi spot!

The food is super good love the rolls and the sushi. My fiancé loved the combination box but the prices have raised... don't go by the ones you see on google or yelp because a roll is 20 each. I like to plan before I go and my whole mind changed at the restaurant but I still went for it because I hadn't had sushi in a while. It's was 75 for everything way over what I guessed my fault for guessing lol. The place is super super cute I love it. The vibe is quiet and the aquarium is cute. The service I hated it... the main waitress attitude towards us was way off- took smiling orders with everyone but us so it wasn't cause she was tired but something else... she didn't check on us the other girl did she was wonderful... don't think I'd go back.... YOU NEED TO TREAT ALL CUSTOMERS SAME NO MATTER RACE,RELIGION, GENDER FYI. Wish I could get my money back from just her attitude

This place is amazing! I have been coming here for years from me picking it up for lunch in high school to being my first stop every time I come back home to visit. Everyone there is so great, the service is amazing and the food is delicious and they are consistent. They just updated the inside and there is a wall of fish tanks full of cool tropical fish that we love to look at when we come in. It is our favorite place in Amador County!

The best sushi in Gold Country! The service is amazing and the owners are great. I recommend the Lion King roll as far as the sushi.

First sushi we had in the Gold Country. We are mainly roll eaters. All the rolls we had were very good. We would come back here again.

My friend and I ate here-the server was nice and courteous, but the food is not that great. Save your money and go to a better sushi place.

The owners were born and raised in the Sonora area, and their undeniable passion for serving fantastic food to the local community - is evident. Both the owners and the staff genuinely care about cultivating a warm and accessible vibe at Kobe Japanese Steakhouse. Kobe Japanese Steakhouse has an extensive menu - serving everything from quality steaks, to hibachi, to specialty sushi rolls, to fried rice, to noodle dishes and more. For their hibachi options you can choose from steak, to salmon, to chicken, to shrimp, to lobster, and more. All look (and I'm sure taste - as well) delicious. One particularly photogenic standout from their specialty sushi menu - was their Lobster King Roll, which is comprised of lobster tempura inside lobster salad and tobiko on top. Swoon. When we were here, we sampled an array of sushi rolls and hibachi options and all were exceptionally flavorful. If you have dietary issues or concerns - be sure to let the staff know. The staff are attentive and they seem eager to assist customers navigate the menu accordingly. Kobe Japanese Steakhouse isn't cheap, but you can tell by the quality of their food - that you're paying for well crafted dishes that have been made with intention. If you're on a budget - be sure to look into their lunch specials and bento box dinners, which are more wallet friendly. And don't be afraid to ask the staff for recommendations. If you're looking to celebrate a special occasion at a restaurant - Kobe Japanese Steakhouse is a formidable option. Their ambiance/decor may be a little too casual if you're looking for a romantic date destination, but if you want menu items that will delight your tastebuds and eyes - they got you. Trust.

You'd…read morethink with the rodeo in town, they might have been busier than they were (though they seem to have a fair amount of take out). That might have signaled something as far as expectations. The decor was pretty basic and not really what you would expect for a Japanese steakhouse...the decor looks more like a breakfast diner. They serve only wine and beer, no cocktails. Service staff were friendly enough. Our meals came with miso soups and a salad, the latter of which had an orange dressing (maybe French), not the sesame ginger you might expect. Our entrees came fairly promptly, yet lacked the white rice and fried rice sides that were supposed to accompany the main dishes. I'd say the rice didn't come until a good 10 minutes after the main entrees arrived. People in our party were trying to eat slowly (to buy time for the rice to arrive), though that meant our food was getting colder. All the hibachi entrees came with a few bonus shrimp. The meat was tasty enough and came with an orange sauce and a brown (sesame ginger) sauce for dipping. Don't come here expecting a teppanyaki table or to see your meal cooked on hibachi at your actual table...all the items are cooked out of view, in the kitchen. The experience was sort of 'meh' for me, but my husband had a slightly more favorable opinion. I have other restaurants I'd prefer returning to, before this one.

We are…read morevegetarians and have limited options in Murphys but I noticed some veggie sushi rolls listed on the menu and some curries/noodle dishes so decided to try it. Some things to note, highly encourage reservation ahead of time. We got there an hour before closing on a Sunday and even though there was a table open they almost didn't seat us. It is small on the inside with limited tables so I would not say it's great for groups. They stop serving about 30 minutes before the posted closing time and don't make exceptions. We ended up ordering a Jenni role which had tofu/cream cheese/cucumber inside and avocado/panko/doke sauce outside and it was seriously amazing. Although there were only two veggie roll options on the menu I could easily eat two of this roll alone. Things only got better with the curry. I assumed the curry was going to be Japanese style, but they are actually more thai style yellow and panang curry options. Unfortunately the Udon and Ramen dishes are not vegetarian as they are made with fish broth. But the yellow curry was perhaps the best yellow curry we've ever had (and we are a bit of curry snobs). The sauce was lighter than a traditional thai yellow curry and it had a delicious sweet finish. The veggies were tasty and fresh. When we come back to Murphys I will certainly be going for this curry again. I do wish they had a few more vegetarian options, but very glad the ones they do are outstanding.

Always a little skeptical about sushi in a landlocked town but Doke is actually very solid!…read more Quick review since I'm on vacation but: Chef special: really good! Great assortment of fish and the sauce splatter is gorgeous. Poseidon roll: our favorite! This roll was really tasty and all the elements worked well together. Negihama - generous cuts but maybe it's out of season as it was a little lacking. Service was attentive and prompt and the food came out quickly. The food was surprisingly good for being the only sushi place in town so overall I'm happy it exists. I'll definitely try to stop by again!!

Finally a nice sushi place a hop and skip away from my neighborhood!!!…read more We've come here plenty of times and each time has been great. I'd never been here before but my husband was picking up pizza across the street and this was nearest location. My first impression on a quick stop Friday night. Restaurant is small but clean and modern. They were REALLY busy but friendly and my roll was ready by the time I got there. I asked for soy sauce and wasabi, they had already put it all in the bag. Good customer service. When I got to my destination, sat down and finally opened the box, I was surprised at the size of the roll. I ordered the Machu Pichu and it had a good combo of seafood so I expected a larger roll. It is also priced at $25 so there's that for expectation. I do realize price of food has gone up a lot, I was still taken back a bit. The roll was really good though. Machu Pichu- Tempura shrimp and spicy tuna in the roll. Spicy tuna didn't have the kick, I couldn't tell it apart from the other ingredients. It was supposed to be topped with avocado but didn't have any as you can see in the pictures. It did have a good amount of snow crab mix. Half the roll was topped with salmon, the other half with tuna but it looked fresh, not seared. Also, I didn't know they would be divided. The description implies the entire roll having each of the ingredients listed. Other than that, it did have the creamy and unagi sauces, the leeks, marsh and salad. Overall it was fresh and good. It just wasn't what I was expecting nor was what I thought it would be for a $25 roll. I was so hungry and didn't dine in so I let it go.. plus that amazing flavor of wasabi and soy sauce met enough of what I was looking forward to tasting with the other ingredients. I got the Inari for my toddler. It was good but also $8 for the two halves. Maybe I've been hiding under a rock but that's pricy for 2 tbsp of rice with tofu wrap. Would I go back? Haven't decided. I'm sure if I had dined in, these details would have been corrected. Overall it was good.. there was just a lot missing for me in this first time experience. If I do, I will definitely update.

I appreciated that the staff had a number system set up for the crowd, and a staff member was outside to direct what line to go to and also to let people know the estimated wait time. So the chaos was kept to a minimum. When it was our turn to dine in, the staff were fast and efficient with bringing a carafe of water and glasses to the table. Our food came out in less than 5 minutes of being seated. I had the black garlic tonkatsu (thin noodles) and my husband had the chicken paitan (thin noodles). The pork broth and the chashu were flavorful and tender. The chicken broth was good with a light creamy layer of flavor. The chicken chashu were nice cuts of white meat.
