As someone married to a Native American/Mexican, I am very picky about the tacos I order. Don Luis Taqueria is approved by my husband and is a pretty solid spot for Mexican food in gold country. The owner is nice and the food never takes long to be made. I love the cute covered seating area with the rustic stone tables! My favorite meats are the al pastor and carnitas, and the tacos are always packed with meat. The salsa they use is perfectly spicy and pairs well with the different meats. The taco plates are served with your standard roasted chile, radish slices, limes, & grilled onions. I got a side of their rice once and it was pretty well balanced and flavorful. I recently tried their horchata and it was well done and not too sweet either. Prices are reasonable and they also participate in taco Tuesday for $1/taco. We'll definitely keep supporting this local business, and I would recommend Don Luis Taqueria for your taco fix! read more

This place is amazing!! I had their birria ramen and boy did that come packed with flavor. The noodles don't quite look like the menu shows but the whole plate is so delicious. The soup was so rich in spices and it tastes like the perfect consumé. Highly recommend. Also their hot Cheetos burrito is delicious as well!! I generally go to Taco El Noa Noa. However, this place has really good burritos. For some reason they hit the spot more then El Noa Noa or La Esperanza. They give free chips, but they are hit or miss. Sometimes stale. In return they jack prices up more then competitors. Stopped here for the first and definitely the last time. I waited a good 30 to 40 mins for our order. It wasn't busy at all but I don't mind waiting for food that is good. This was not the case for me. My wife ordered a chimichanga and a Chile relleno. I ordered 3 tacos ( 1 pastor, 1 asada, and 1 carnitas ) and 1 carnitas quesadilla. I won't base my rating on my wife's food cuz I didn't try it. My quesadilla barely had cheese in it and 2 flavors. Bland meat and caper. The caper taste was overwhelming and it was super dry while it ruined the quesadilla. I hate 3 bites and threw it away. My tacos were plain and dry meat. Asked for 8 quesabirria tacos. Which was 5 dollars each but instead they gave me plain corn tacos with sour cream on them? So I paid 57 dollars for 8 plain corn tacos with sour cream on them. Normally, i love this place. Tried to call and report this to the establishment so I could get a refund but the phone line didn't work. Bummer that I didn't check my bag before we left but I heard the server say to the cook what my exact order is. So I don't understand why i was given something completely different. Updated: so then I finally got thru to them over the phone and one of the employees said he would reach out to the owner to get them to help me with a refund, and they'd call me back. They didn't call me back. I called back an hour later when a new employee told me she wouldn't be able to refund me as she wasn't the one who took the order. She found the order in her system and it said "8 corn tacos with birria meat" What? Who orders crispy corn tacos with birria meat only? Is that even a real thing? (No, it's not. Nobody orders that.) Then she told me the owner refused to refund me because I ordered wrong. Um... no I didn't. Your employee put my order in wrong. I physically heard your employees talk about 8 quesa birria tacos. But sure. Blame your customer. The employee told me her manager said if I had brought the tacos back I would've gotten a refund. What? You want me to get back in my car and waste 40 more minutes worth of gas and life to bring you back your soggy tacos that I threw away? Won't be going back. read more
