As many times as I've been to Sutter Creek, I never knew this little gem of a place existed. It's literally located off the beaten Main Street path right down a little alley. Thank goodness for Yelp on helping me find this place! The ambiance was quite lovely on this Friday night, great patio and outdoor seating area. The place was suuuuper busy because of a really large group so it did make our service really slow. But our waitress was very sweet and apologized several times. The food was definitely worth the wait. My husband ordered the crispy tacos with smoked Carnitas and they were so delicious. I ordered the mulitas with one carnitas and the other the carne asada. Both were really delicious and had great flavor. There was enough food that we had leftovers the next day for lunch. I am excited that such a place is up here in this area because we come up here often to go camping in our RV. We will definitely be back to try other dishes. I seriously miss the bistro that was in this location last year. Rosa's was the quite the disappointment on our yearly trip to Sutter Creek. Six of us made prior reservations for a 6 pm dinner on a Saturday night. They may have been busy and short staffed, but even the food was disappointing. It took a good 15 minutes to have a drink order taken and then a half hour plus to get the drinks. The up charged margaritas didn't taste any different from the regular ones considering the extra price paid. The food took over an hour to get. None of the dishes were all that fancy, that long to get a few plates of tacos and a couple burritos. Then none of the plates seem to have any flavor. It's Mexican food, where was the seasoning? It even lacked salt. I doubt the group will return in the future. If you do stop in to try it, I recommend sitting outside on the covered patio instead of inside. More room outside and less noise. We walk from our air bnb. Street parking is limited in the area, as well as small area lot nearby. read more

I really wanted to give this 5 stars. Went their on a lazy Sunday morning to meet my in laws for lunch. They live out of town and we have heard nothing but good things. We were sat on the patio. The place is absoloutly beautiful. Clean, cozy, rustic...etc... we ordered the Street corn (good), carne Asad super burrito (amazing), seafood burrito (amazing), kids bean and cheese burrito (the best kids menu item ive ever seen, big enough for an adult and the flavor is out of this world), gringo tacos (amazing), and the pork belly tacos (sub bar). Prices are high, until you see the portions and realize every dish could be shared by two adults, so the price point is very reasonable when that is considered. Here's why I can only give 3 stars, and really it could be two stars but the dang bean burrito is honestly worth a star alone . We started feeling rushed before we were even done eating. We had ordered some drinks and planned on ordering another round and then leaving, but an employee came to us and said they had a reservation booked on the patio and should have never given us this table and asked if it was OK if we left in the next 10 minutes to accommodate that. We agreed to go with no fuss, and they weren't rude about it, nor were they really apologetic either. We left and went to another place to finish our lunch convo over some guac and margaritas. Although I understand the situation, at the end of the day we received sub par customer service. It's really unfortunate because we liked the food, other than the one dish, but as much as it costs to eat out, getting rushed off your table is just bad customer service. read more

Very disappointing experience We're locals, but we moved from the East Bay many years ago, where there was an abundance of delicious, authentic Mexican food. Unfortunately, this restaurant was neither delicious nor what we would consider authentic. We stopped in for lunch today around 12:30 after a local store owner recommended that we give it a try. The patio is nice, the music selection was good, and our waitress was pleasant, although she appeared to be overwhelmed. We started with chips and salsa. The chips were crispy and pretty good, although extremely salty. The salsa that came with them was very spicy, so we asked for something mild. The mild salsa was actually very good. My mom and aunt each had a glass of Chardonnay and said it was good. Unfortunately, the entrees were a major disappointment. My mom and aunt ordered the mahi mahi tacos. The fish was completely dry and overcooked to the point that it was inedible, so they had to send it back. The rice that accompanied the tacos looked and tasted like Rice-A-Roni, and after two bites, they left it untouched. They ordered a chicken burrito as a replacement, but unfortunately, the chicken was also overcooked and inedible. I ordered the elote appetizer and specifically requested no cilantro. The corn appeared to be a frozen corn cob rather than fresh corn, and it was burnt and covered in cilantro. Since I had specifically asked for no cilantro, I couldn't eat it and set it aside. I also ordered the quesabirria tacos and, once again, they were loaded with cilantro. The waitress had noted my request for no cilantro on everything, so it seemed the chef simply missed the instruction. I sent the tacos back and waited about 15 minutes for a replacement. The beans were actually pretty good, so I ate about half of those, but I didn't touch the rice. When the replacement quesabirria taco arrived, I took one bite and found it contained large chunks of onion, which I found very off-putting. At that point, I pushed the plate aside and didn't eat any more. We eventually asked for the bill, thanked our server, and left disappointed. All told, we spent over $90 plus a $20 tip, and unfortunately, very little of what we ordered was enjoyable. I don't blame our server entirely, as she was pleasant and did try to accommodate our requests, but the service could use some polishing and the food needs a major overhaul. Most disappointing of all, what should have been a simple lunch turned into a two-plus-hour experience. We really wanted to like this place and were happy to support a local restaurant, but based on our experience today, we won't be returning. read more

While I was visiting my aunt over the weekend she took me here to have some drinks. She was raving about how well they were made so I couldn't resist the offer to stop in. It is a cute restaurant tucked away in the alley that I would have never know was there. We were greeted right away and had the option of sitting outside or in. Since it was a nice day we decided to sit outside. After we were sat we were given chips and salsa. I liked that their salsa was runny and the chips tasted fresh. Our server was Scott and he gave us the best service. I wasn't sure what drink to get for my little and asked about their sparkling apple juice. He was honest that he hadn't tried it but after we received it he circled back around to ask how it was. My aunt ordered a margarita and I ordered a mojito. I was very impressed the mojito was not too sweet, sour or had too much alcohol. If I didn't have to drive I would have had more. We shared the churro doughnuts and they were a little gooier than I expected however they were still good. We had already had dinner otherwise I would have tried their food. From what I could see around us everything looked yummy and was decently portioned. Next time I'm in the area to visit my aunt I will have her take me there and try the food. read more

I've been here previously and wanted to share the food with friends. Unfortunately on June 28, 2025 about 1:30pm, the bartender was extremely rude. He should not be in food service or any customer service job. We walked in and a nice young lady greeted us and said it would be a wait because they were busy. Not a problem, we were willing to wait until, the bartender also chimed in with an unfriendly tone and blurted out "We're busy, the wait is 45 minutes to an hour if you want a table, it's going to take a long time to get your food AND I am not going to be rushed". Because I've been to Sutter Creek many times, I knew of Hotel Sutter Restaurant up the alley on the main street so I walked up there to see if we could get on a list for a table. Their staff was very friendly and accommodating so I called my friends and told them to walk over. My husband and I have been going here since they opened. I'm sorry to say that we may not go back. Not because of the food, which is usually good to very good (let's be honest, there's room improvement on consistency). It's because of the service. If you go and they have a group on the patio be prepared to be totally ignored. Clearly, they haven't figured out that you need to STAFF UP for groups. Our last visit there was a group on the patio but plenty of seating inside, however, no one available to serve those inside. This is the second time this has happened. My husband and I visited Rosa's Cocina on a Wednesday. It wasn't crowded, but we weren't the only ones there. We chose the outdoor seating which wasn't too hot even though it was in the 90s. The atmosphere on the patio hadn't changed since I was last there when it was Susan's Place. The perfect covered patio feel. As to the food it's BURSTING with flavor. The rice was the most flavorful I've ever had- very lime-y. Not your typical Spanish rice. I will say their salsas and sauces were spicier than what I'm used to. I like spicy and can handle some heat so it was a nice change for me, but I personally have friends who would've have a harder time with it. I got the enchiladas with salsa verde (the less spicy of the two sauce options), and my husband got the burrito. Both were amazing and I liked that there were 3 enchiladas. You don't get bottomless chips, though. If I brought my kids here, that'd be a problem as you only get one basket for free. read more

We're locals and have been here several times. The food has always been very fresh, and tasty. We enjoy this more authentic Mexican food than all the other Mexican restaurants in Amador & Calaveras Counties. Especially the fish and carne asada street tacos! The food is homemade, fresh, and not smothered in the usual (canned) red enchilada sauce over everything. They have wonderful homemade chips and salsa as well. Prices are reasonable. Hola! What a great new place this is in downtown Sutter Creek! We've been to Sutter Creek many times now and Rosa's is certainly a welcome addition to the dining choices. My wife and I always appreciate Mexican food and we actually went to Rosa's on back-to-back nights. I had the same thing, pork belly tacos, just to ensure consistency, and they certainly were! Delicious food and the service was good, despite the second night watching our server cover multiple tables and locations. She did a great job and we made sure she knew it. It has a cool vibe, which is a bit hard to get since Sutter Creek is more of a sleepy town versus an all-nighter. Kudos to the excellent food choices, drinks, and overall ambiance! We will be back!
