First time eating here. There aren't many options in Jackson, Ione area but there are several Mexican restaurants. It was busy but not too busy on a Tuesday night. We were a group of six diners. Service was attentive and accommodating. My husband had the #25 Shredded beef burrito and chili verde pork burrito. He enjoyed it. I ordered the Toatada Grande and asked for an extra portion of chicken to be added to it. I also swapped out the refried beans for black beans. It was good and I got all my protein and veggies. I asked for a side of salsa as dressing for the salad. It also came with rice but I didn't taste it. I would eat there again. Prices were reasonable. I'm surprised by their overall low rating on Yelp. I think it deserves more. read more

Food: No flavor or seasoning, very bland, tasteless, hard to chew, nothing special. Ordered 2 soft tacos a la carte and flantas (one of each carnitas, beef, and chicken) with beans and rice. Only thing we liked was the flour tortilla chips. Service: Roughly handled by Sophia waitress and bartender taking authority when I tried to notify them of the issues with service and food quality. I was blew off and told that "I know not to come back" after gently venting my complaints. I was ignored, interrupted, not allowed to finish my statements, excused, blew off. The staff are in the mindset that they are one of the best Mexican restaurants in Sutter Creek for food and service; however, this I can NEVER agree with. I would rate them at the bottom of any Mexican food I have ever tried in my lifetime. My food was super late getting to us and was only lukewarm. The guacamole had to be requested twice, but by then we had eaten all our flour chips, so had to cancel. Ambiance was non-existent. Only positive was the spacious booth seating. read more

No Bueno - Had the wings app. Good but so hot you could barely eat them. Tortilla soup, very bland. Could definitely use some seasoning at least salt. Had the chili Verde special enchilada. The enchilada and the Verde itself was good but the green sauce that was on top was awful. Had to scrape it all off. The beef taco is with hamburger. The margaritas were good but the house margaritas were $14 and they were mostly ice! The salsa was good but the chips were a combo of fried flour tortillas and corn tortillas. Did not care for the flower ones at all. I'm really sorry I wish I had some thing better to say about this place. It is nice and big inside but the food just doesn't do it for me. A 2 star review based on my experience: To start, our drinks were totally bomb! I didn't get my friends drink because she drank it so fast. But of course the drinks were the start and made by the best bartender! Now to the food portion of it: my friend ordered the fajitas. She got her food and was puzzled by how she found a big chunk of avocado skin in her Guac... I meannn, who leaves a big chunk of avocado skin in the Guac. It was a little weird but still able to be enjoyed. Her fajitas overall she said was a 1/5. There was no flavor, it was too dry. I ordered the Number 16, which was a beef chimichanga and a chicken enchilada. The enchilada, no flavor, did not like it at all. I was appalled. But my beef chimichanga was amazing! That I will have to compliment on. Of course the beans and rice to me, were not up to par nor my standards. Overall experience, the drinks is what made our outing well. The food though... not so much. Would we come back for drinks, absolutely! Food? For me, the beef chimichanga, yes 100% but that's it for me. read more

What was more concerning was the way I'm assuming it was the owner was talking to the staff/workers, she was nasty and rude and made it super uncomfortable to sit and eat. Probably our best local Mexican restaurant. The crab and shrimp enchiladas are delicious and I also really enjoy the calamari. The do excellent combinations and their shrimp fajitas are great. I also like their chili relleno and chili verde. A family run restaurant, they have been a local favorite for over 30 years. A full bar serves excellent blended Margaritas. Try their mango Margarita. Today we were craving a little Mexican food for lunch and I needed to see if I could find some better Chile Verde than the last restaurant. Unfortunately, my Chile Verde was, again, less than stellar. The pork was dry, while the sauce lacked any real Verde flavor. My sons food was also in the same culinary rating as my dish as well. On the other hand, my wife really enjoyed her Chimichanga. I did taste it and it was very good. But, let's face it you cannot really screw up a fried burrito. I think what ultimately made the review a solid 3 was the service. Chips and salsa came out fast but that was the last time I saw any more chips and salsa. I specifically wait to see if the server asks us if we'd like more. Just to test their serving skills. Unfortunately, our server didn't refill any of the fountain beverages and again. This is our go to place in Amador County for Mexican food. Now there are many Mexican food joints in our small county that are all pretty good. What keeps us coming back is the staff. What a great family run business. Generations working daily. Great Margaritas and of course Dos XX Amber on tap in the big frosty mugs, so big you could dock a jet ski in it. read more

We ate here with a small group on a weekday evening. Service was great. We were served chips and salsa. Chips were great but salsa was thin and not memorable. We ordered sides of guacamole for the chips - it was excellent. Myself and the party all felt the food was pretty average in terms of preparation and taste. Portion sizes were fine. I don't know what happened to this restaurant. It was was just so-so when we ordered take out a few weeks ago. We ordered take out this last week and it was terrible. It used to be much better. The beef (very little beef) quesadilla wasn't browned and didn't have any flavor. The wet burrito had very little green sauce inside and out even though there was sufficient pork it didn't make a good dish. The chicken enchilada probably the best but but not great and not worth a return. The absolute worse were the drinks...if we would have been there in person they would have returned on the spot. Unfortunately I have to give them a star to be able to post a review, but I would give them 0 if I could. I can't believe this place is in business and I can't believe I bought from them after reading the reviews. Trust me, I am a chef, don't look at the good reviews on this they are lying. I just didn't have many options for delivery and thought how can anyone mess up Mexican food that bad. I ordered the chicken enchilada and chicken taco combo, the tortilla soup, and a side salad. Wow. I didn't think you could mess up Mexican food that bad. The soup tasted like water with a handful of rice and some stringy chicken. The enchilada sauce tasted like pencil shavings for some reason and the chicken inside was just plain stringy boiled chicken. No flavor, not even salt. The beans and rice both bland bland bland. The taco was literally a folded oily tortilla with the same boiled stringy chicken. Nothing had flavor not even salt. My shoe would have tasted better, think I'm joking go ahead and waste your money. The only saving grace was that I order chips and salsa and that was actually ok so hey at least I'll lose some weight from skipping a meal. Don't eat here unless you like gross food and wasting your money because I would have been better off taking my $40 bucks and flushing down the toilet. read more

I didn't want to leave this review but I'm hoping the owners will take heed. We've been dining here for many years. It was a destination spot for us on our way up to the Rancheria. Our last visit to this restaurant was dismal at best. Yes, covid hit and everything went down the tubes. I get it. But wouldn't you, as owners and operators of this restaurant try harder? Staying a few nights in Jackson for a girls trip with my momma. We've eaten several places in town as well as Sutter Creek. El Torero is by far HANDS DOWN the best Mexican food I've had since I moved to Sacramento from LA as well as the best food we've had here. Great portions, clean, casual inviting atmosphere, great waitresses. Everything is authentic (just like your favorite abuelita's kitchen) with several freshly made items - Tamales, rice, chips, guacamole, and salsa. I'm sure there's more but those are the ones I had and took note of. The masa on the tamales was SO light and fluffy, pork perfectly seasoned and cooked inside. My mom had the tortilla soup, AMAZING. Really light broth with fresh tomatoes, onions, cilantro, jalapeños, and juicy chicken. It was both rich and fresh tasting. I'd assume just about anything on the menu is fantastic. Big bonus - they aren't closed Monday-Wednesday like 65% of both towns. We were kind of bummed that so many places were closed, we had hoped to go out to a fancy dinner this evening...but we didn't miss a darn thing once we tasted the food. To put it very simply, I ate well after I felt enormously full and brought leftovers back to our bnb (which I never do). Thank you all for a fantastic dinner!!!
