Crispy taco with carnitas and soft street taco Campechano (Asada/chorizo mix, cilantro, hold the onions)
    Lil B.

The Carnitas taco today was super tasty with crispy and, flavorful pork just how I like it. I also ordered a Carne Asada taco and chorizo taco. The Carne Asada taco was a bit plain for me, but the chorizo was really good. I love their chips and salsa bar. I had an Agua Fresca for my beverage and the choice of Horchata, Jamaica, and pineapple. The noise level inside is a little bit loud sometimes so we sat outside. It seemed like a regular busy lunch hour, and we had to bus our own table a little bit. A few of the tables outside had not been cleared, which made it difficult to find seats. But all of the servers and the cashier were very nice and attentive. Side comment took a picture of one of the bathrooms a tiny little space but decorated super cute with a tiny sink. Clean uncomfortable.

This is a staple in Davis for quality Mexican food at an affordable price. Guads is a family favorite and we've been here several times for lunch. It's always clean and spacious inside, but it gets packed in here regularly. Come early if you can. I like everything I've tried, and my favorites include the street tacos and the flautas. The portions are generous and always fresh. It may get busy but service is always fast. I love their Jarritos wall too!

Crispy tacos -- lengua and cabeza.

Got myself crispy tacos this time around (good and filling) with lengua and cabeza. Good stuff. I still prefer street tacos at the Mexican place on L street, but Guads is really close to campus and a solid place to enjoy with coworkers. Naturally, I'll be back. The place tends to be busy during lunch, but not impossible to find a table and the service is fairly quick. I hear the beer selection is solid, but my boss won't let me check it out during work hours... Ambiance is friendly industrial, plenty outside seating for those who want it.

Food's great! We had their burrito, torta, chicken quesadilla, shrimp and fish tacos. Friendly and quick service. Small restaurant so seats are limited.

Great Mexican spot with really good vibes. The food has that almost Tex-Mex style but still tastes authentically Mexican, which makes it stand out. The burrito bowl was HUGE and packed with flavor. The salsas were fresh and delicious, and the aguas frescas were super refreshing and paired perfectly with the meal. The service is good, You order at the counter first and then grab a seat, which makes it quick and casual.

Wish I could give this a 5, and I can. Really thinking about it, is it their fault they are sooooo good that there are 50 people waiting in line? Yes, it is but that's not a bad thing. For starters, we showed up at prime time rush on a Friday night in a college town. We waited in a jam packed space and ended up enjoying our dreaded outdoor table. It gave us just enough privacy and room to enjoy in such a tight space (bring a coat, though). The food was incredible, my husband compared his tacos to some that reminded him of some in his Mexican hometown which is rare, my fries were perfect and my daughter's quesabirrias had just the right crunch. Drinks were great, service and staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back, just maybe not at rush hour.

huge pieces of thick fatty bacon that filled up my breakfast burrito

I got a breakfast burrito last week from the taco truck next to volt and it was so good. I was craving one so I decided to come to the actual restaurant on 3rd street. While the service and the building was good, the breakfast burrito was mainly filled with fatty bacon :( I am kind of a texture person so I couldn't even finish after one or two bites...

Overall, Guads has some of the tastiest tacos and burritos in the Davis and Sacramento area. I've come back many times, and its definitely a spot I'd recommend to others. Food: (4/5) Aggie Taco ($4.99) I got the battered fish taco and it was delicious. Though, compared to the street taco, it lacked some seasoning. It was not as heavily flavorful. However, the salsa added flavor. The blue tortillas flavor was apparent and different from their traditional tortilla. (5/5) Al Pastor Street Taco ($2.99) The meat was very well seasoned, flavorful, tender, and juicy. The al pastor is my meat of choice at Guads because it's so delicious and different from street vendors. Though, it is a little oily. (5/5) Chips and Salsa Bar (Free) There is a complimentary unlimited chip and salsa bar towards the back of the restaurant. Their housemade salsas are very delicious, especially the green salsa. I usually prefer red salsa but their green salsa is some of the best I've ever had. I definitely recommend trying it out. Service & Ambiance: (5/5) The service and staff here are amazing. Everyone is friendly and extremely attentive. They always keep the restaurant clean by wiping down tables and the salsa bar no matter how busy it gets. They are also always cleaning up your table after you leave because there is no designated place to put your dirty plates. Though, the restaurant itself is small, so seating can be limited when it gets busy.

Way overdue review. I'm at Guads Tacos & Beer at least three times per week. The food here is authentic, affordable, great service, good ambience (especially in the Summer), and excellent beer and cider options.

One of the best restaurants in Davis and 100% the go-to Mexican restaurants. Price is great, portions are amazing, quality is great, and service is fast! Absolutely try it!! Food (10/10) - I don't think I've found better tacos than at guads. There speciality tacos are huge and are so filling. My cap is 3, which is just enough to crave a 4th but know that eating more will probably result in adverse effects LOL (this is also coming from someone who can down 7-8 standard street tacos). My original go-to was the quesabirria but I find that it gets a bit oily after the second taco. HOWEVER, this is definitely not saying that you shouldn't get it. I would recommend getting 1 or 2 and then trying something else on the menu. During my last visit, I tried the crispy taco and it's AMAZING. It's slightly cheaper than the quesabirria (since you don't get the consóme) but the variety you get from being able to choose that you want makes it 100% worth it. Also, if you're really craving that dipping taste, I would recommend getting one quesabirria and then 2 crispy tacos. I tried the marinated steak, al pastor, and chicken. My favorite of the 3 is definitely the al pastor! It has a nice, crispy texture from the taco shell which is elevated by the slightly crispy pork inside the taco. There's a great balance of cheese where you get a bite of the stretchy cheese with every taco bite. The guac that comes with it elevates it even further as it gives you a super creamy texture to enhance the richness of the cheese. If I had one thing I would recommend, it's to get some salsa to add an extra bit of kick. Some other items that I've tried are the loaded nacho fries and the burrito. The loaded nacho fries are pretty good but nothing super notable. I'm also not the biggest fan of burritos but the flavor was still great. Price (10/10) - If there's one thing Guad's has right, it's price and portion. It's SOOO worth. Personally, I wouldn't ever order the street tacos since their speciality tacos are just that much better for value. They're pretty ginormous tacos and only around $5 a taco is amazing. Even if you were to order the street tacos, they're absolutely loaded with meat (my friend was struggling to fold it). Service (8/10) - Good service! Nothing to write about. Food comes out pretty quickly. Long story short, ABSOLUTELY go to Guad's if you have a chance! Happy eating :D

One of the best Mexican spots I've tried in the Sacramento area! Every single thing I tried here was amazing. To start it off, the free chips which seem to be made in house, and the various types of salsa were great. Standouts of our meal was the al pastor vampiro and the davis special fish tacos. So flavorful with tender meat. The chile verde pork taco was also great. The burrito was good but not as good as the tacos. Overall, an awesome meal. The service was fast and there's plenty of seating both inside and outside on the patio. Great spot of casual meal with friends.

    Street taco and crispy taco

Obsessed with Guads, my go-to Davis comfort food as a grad student. I would always order one street taco with Al pastor and a crispy taco with asada, for under $9 total. You can get so full from the tacos plus unlimited chips and a variety of salsas + my favorite pickled cauliflower, carrot slices, and peppers mix. Service is solid. It gets really busy over dinner time, so I usually come earlier during the week of the school year around 5 pm to avoid the wait. Music can be loud which can make it hard to chat, especially when it's crowded, but the music is always good. Bad Bunny and other top Latino hits. I also like that they have an array of beers and even cider to drink on tap.

While a certain amount of preferential treatment for familiar faces is simply human nature, the contrast felt greater than what could be considered good service. Maybe the Local was only for locals. More recently, on another trip staying in downtown Davis, I decided to give the Local another whirl. Pulling up a stool at the bar on a Saturday afternoon, the bartender extended a friendly greeting. Huh. Service was personable, knowledgeable, & attentive this time around. After a little conversation, I found out he was filling for the regular bartender. Huh. Well OK, then. So I got to trying some beers. They don't do taster pours/ flights here. Everything's at least 1/2 pours. The bartender informed me that they do taster pours/ flights at their brewery location in town. Just not here. Honestly, that's a bummer for me. But I had a few 1/2 pours to taste what they got. For someone who's a bit beer snobby, has far too many 1000's of beer check-ins on Untappd, & once-upon-a-time homebrewed for many years, the beers were good. Not whale-hype mind blowing. But good. Service was nice this visit. It'll be interesting to see which Dunloe Brewing I get on any possible future visit to the Local...

It was a cold afternoon/evening in December, but we dressed warmly and stayed by the firepit. There were maybe 4-6 other clusters of people there also, and definitely another birthday party going on because the guests were singing along loudly to a special request playlist that the staff played on the speaker for them. I thought it was a good number of people considering how cold and dark it got. Our group brought a bunch of kids, and they pretty much explored the grounds the whole time -- feeding the animals, making friends with other kids, and having a blast. Food from the food truck was fine, just be careful leaving your food out unattended because some random dog gobbled our burger when we weren't looking. It's a beautiful spot. We should all be so grateful for having access to it, basically for free. Drinks were good. Good vibes. Super relaxing to be out in nature. Friendly staff. As of this review, you can reserve areas for parties/events for free, and you can bring in your own food and drinks, excluding alcohol, of course, since they are a brewery. A friend I homebrewed with for years lives in Dixon. Being beer nerds enough to brew it ourselves, we'd stumbled across Ruhstaller beers a long time ago. That early stuff was rough.
