Vegi bento box and orange chicken with gyoza oh yeah!!!
Derk D.

Our favorite sushi restaurant near Ione. Vegetarian bento box is great and they take care to keep it on uncontaminated surfaces. The chicken katsu is also really good, crispy exterior with juicy chicken. If you like aquariums while you eat ask to sit next to the 2 big ones in the dining room and see if you can see Nemo and Dory.

The sushi here was surprisingly delicious! They were nice enough to sit us by the fish tanks so my nephew could enjoy the view. The fish was fresh and for a sushi place in a small town off the beaten path this was amazing the locals are lucky to not have to go far for good sushi! I would definitely eat there again and the service was pleasant prices were not too bad.

Nice fish tank!

I was craving Japanese food last week and decided to finally try out Oko Sushi while waiting for my tires to get rotated next door at America's Tire. My husband came along as well. I had scoured the reviews of this place and it *seemed* like the reviews had gone up. I am generally distrusting of Japanese restaurants in small towns, but I figured Oko Sushi would be worth a try. Our first visit unfortunately looks like it will be our last. We were pretty hungry and both ordered the dinner bento boxes. I got the salmon teriyaki with veggie tempura, while my husband got the chicken katsu with gyoza. The first red flag was seeing the extremely limited selections of the bento boxes. At other (better) Japanese restaurants, there are far more options to choose your sides from, such as shrimp tempura or even sashimi. Oko only had a California roll, gyoza, and veggie tempura to choose from. Fine, just small-town things I guess, but not really an excuse when you're the only Japanese restaurant in a pretty wide radius. However, what honestly annoyed us both was that neither the lunch nor the dinner bentos boxes came with miso soup, which is a standard appetizer, and our meals were still $19 each. I have never been to a Japanese restaurant that doesn't provide miso soup with their bento boxes (or any set menu items, for that matter). Anyway, on to the next part of my review. Now it pains me to write this section as the entree portions of our bento boxes were actually pretty well-executed. My husband enjoyed the breading and flavor of his katsu, and I enjoyed the tenderness and the crispy skin of my salmon teriyaki. The gyoza were pretty good as well, and I had plenty of tempura, which were nicely breaded. The California roll was fine. Nothing to write home about. The ginger was fine as well. Now the rice that came with our entree on the other hand was absolutely not it. I'm not sure how an Asian restaurant can mess up rice, but Oko did. The juxtaposition of mushy yet undercooked rice was so unappealing. We finished our rice as we hate wasting food, but it's been a long time (I'm talking years) since I've had rice this bad. Tell me how the sushi rice was perfectly fine while the rice for the entree was undercooked?? This goes to show that the restaurant doesn't use the same kind of rice for their entrees as their sushi, which if you go to a good Japanese restaurant, it should be Japanese rice for both sushi and regular rice bowls. The salad was also mid, and seemed to cater to the country folk who frequent this establishment. Upon finishing our meal, we were also asked if we wanted dessert right away. Not a thing with other authentic Japanese restaurants we've been to. Service was fine, but nothing to write home about again. The presentation overall was also not exactly refined. Everything was packed into the bento boxes, and we actually had to take our rice bowls off the bento boxes themselves to have more space to eat. The best part of our meal was enjoying the beautiful fish in the multiple salt-water tanks they had. At other Japanese restaurants, the staff usually have beautiful cuts of their sashimi being shown off through glass counters. Here, the view was blocked by yet another fish tank. I do not see myself returning to Oko Sushi. Unfortunate, but I do not wish to spend my money on subpar food. Do yourself a favor and drive to Sacramento (or even north Stockton) for far better Japanese food.

Recently moved to PG from Sac area & was in search of a new sushi spot. My hubby found this & we saw the good reviews & decided to give it a shot. We were NOT disappointed! The restaurant is small, but you don't feel overly crowded. It was busy (Fri evening), but we got seated right away at the bar. It was such an experience eating sushi in front of the fish tank! The food was DELICIOUS & fresh! We got complimentary edamame to start, which was your average dish. We got miso soup, & it was very flavorful. I can't remember the names of the rolls we got, but they were all spicy (our fave kind!) & 1 was recommended by our waitress (who was amazing). This will be our new go-to sushi spot!

My friend and I ate here-the server was nice and courteous, but the food is not that great. Save your money and go to a better sushi place.

The male sushi chef is the best! I love this sushi. Most of the waitresses are the sweetest around. Very nice and quiet place to go eat.

Of course the first slot machine we went to hit and we started up $300, which we essentially gave back as we were chasing the big win. A guy next us said 'It only takes one spin to win' and we took that a little too literally lol. We played a variety of the machines, but the most luck we had was with the Top Dollar Machines, the others weren't lucky this time around. While we only left up $30, we spent 3 hours of fun just playing away. Something I haven't seen at any other casino was a free soda and non-alcoholic drink areas! It's Pepsi products though, so not the best, but at least it's free. I saw people ordering smoothies, which looked really good but we never stayed at a slot machine long enough to get one. We came on a Thursday, and it was bummer that there was only (1) blackjack table going with a $5 minimum. I walked by multiple times and there was never an open seat. Plenty of seats of pai gow or poker though. Maybe it was just the time of day, but definitely would love to try my hand at blackjack next time around.

Met the fabulous owners at a wine dinner at The Nashville Social Club in Carson in March…read more I was so impressed with them and the wines, I made a day trip over to taste and pick up some more. This is a lovely property in located on the Shenandoah School Road east of Plymouth, California. Owner/Winemaker Chaim Gur-Arieh started his career as a food technologist, creating some of my childhood favorites- Captain Crunch, Hidden Valley Dressing, and pudding cups. That has to explain why he creates some very delicious wines now. Elisheva, his wife and business partner hosts the tasting room, or should I say tasting garden. On gorgeous days enjoy the beautiful large patio and garden space she has created on the property. Complete with chandeliers. Be part of their mailing list and make reservations to attend one of her concerts in the garden during the summer. After checking in at the actual tasting room, I walked the path to the garden and could pick any seat. I was brought a nice charcuterie / cheese plate to enjoy with the wines and the sunny morning. The barbera and tawny port are two of my favorites. The sparkling rose was nice and light, perfect as we now enter 100 degree days for the summer. It's going to take several trips to discover all their wine. Chaim has even made wine that pairs with sushi. Wild. Don't be disappointed by showing up, they may be full. Make a reservation. They are a very popular and great vineyard.

I had to show them the email confirmation. It was fine and we were still able to sit down right away. The inside wine tasting room is kind of small but the outdoor patio and area makes up for it. It is quite big and open. I think someone can host an outdoor concert or a wedding. We got to taste about five type of wines (Sauvignon Blanc and few blended red wine). They were all good. I particularly like the 2020 Interlude and purchased a bottle for my sister. We also got to sample from their gallery collection library club that's like 20+ years old ( I forgot the exact year) and that was special. They also have dumplings and spring rolls for purchase. I skip that because I wasn't sure if that would go with the wine. We bought some cheese with us and we had that with our wine. Of course, we asked for permission before bringing in our own cheese and crackers. The gentleman that served us was really nice and friendly. We didn't feel rushed and wine was poured at a good pace. I do want to mention that most winery at Amador will comp at least one tasting with purchase, but not at Di Arie. If you're not a member, be prepared to pay the full wine tasting fee per person.

We always stop here for bathroom and snack breaks when we're in the area for work…read more This place has clean restrooms, plenty of gift items you might want but don't need (like the beach scented soap from Australia that I bought after one sniff), a good selection of groceries, a deli, and freshly grilled tri-tip. I'm not sure how often they grill outside, but someone was grilling tri-tip yesterday. We bought the tri-tip family meal, which came with tri-tip that we picked up outside, then had it sliced inside at the deli counter, 2 lbs of baked beans with bits of unexpected pineapple, potato and macaroni salad, and rolls, all for only $36.99 + tax. The tri-tip was still juicy and delicious after microwaving it at home, and the cold salads made it back safely since we had a cooler. The beans were exceptionally delicious. I've never had them with pineapple before, only in macaroni salad. We need to boycott fast food with their outrageous prices these days. This was obviously better and fairly priced.

Coming from the Bay, it's always refreshing to sandwiches that don't cost an arm and leg. A lot of their sandwiches and wraps start at $9.99 and although the sandwich looked small, it was pretty filling. I went with the 'Cattlemen' which was roast beef, horseradish cheddar, plus all the fixing. It's panini pressed, so the the bread is nice and toasted, crunchy. If you are really hungry though, I'd pay extra to get double meat for a little extra protein. My partner got the chicken cesar wrap, and that was pretty tasty. We finished half and ate the rest later and it was pretty good. I had go to the big box store for alcohol, and was surprised to see the prices here being super competitive and even cheaper for a bottle of espelon tequlia.
