These guys are really great, food is traditional American/Chinese food. The restaurant is located in a strip mall in Arnold. What's makes this a 5 star place for me is the kindness and hospitality of this family owned business. We came into town late, midweek and everything was closed, this Resturant had also just closed but I didn't realize it when I walked in. They took care of our to go order that was not placed until after they were closed and had no one on the Resturant, because they saw I had a hungry family in the car and cared. In the tiny mountain town of Arnold, I didn't expect much. A friend and I were heading home after a long weekend of sun, kayaking, camping, and inclement weather(such fun!). We debated our options for food before continuing our drive back home and d cided to find a Chinese food place. The Arnold Chinese Restaurant fit our requirements well. My litmus test for a new place is to order beef chow fun. I was pleasantly surprised when they had it on the menu. It's something that you have to have a constant fresh source for it to have a chance of being good. Secondly, even though I forgot to stipulate "dry-cooked", that's how they prepared it. (Proper chow fun is not served with goopy sauce). The seasoning of fermented black beans was perfect! Not something from a jar, but whole, fermented blacks beans full of taste. It was pretty good, overall. The server brought our food out very quickly, hot and fresh off the wok. I had to wait some minutes while it cooled down enough to eat. When I took my first bite, I was very pleased. The taste was spot-on. Their chef knows how to cook. Fortunately, the portion was fairly generous, too, as I realized how hungry I was. My friend had ordered a few different things stir fried, like garlic eggplant and tofu. It looked well-prepared, as well. Early weekday dinner, was told to sit anywhere and asked about what to drink and if we were ready to order. Food was served hot and fast. Good portions and flavors. MuShu Chicken and dinner for one was the other order. Appetizer, soup of the day, rice and choice of entree which was a beef dish. The restaurant itself is looking a little tired, (but aren't we all) Seems to be very popular with takeout and the owner knew several people by name. Though the soup was a little on the bland side. 3/5 -- Cream Cheese Fried Wontons (2) and Fried Shrimp (2): both were good. 4.5/5 -- Pork Fried Rice: fried rice with pork, eggs, peas, carrots, and green onions. This was pretty good. My kids enjoyed it. 4/5 -- Mongolian Beef: beef with bell peppers, red onions, and green onions. This had good flavor and the meat was tender. 3.75/5 -- Sesame Chicken: battered chicken topped with sesame seeds. This was way better after I popped it in the oven and made the crunchier. 3.5/5 SERVICE: Fast and friendly. 5/5 FINAL THOUGHTS: I would come back to try other items. The only thing I think could change is more veggies in the noodle dishes but overall it was pretty darn good Chinese food. A bit greasy but the good kind of greasy that adds full flavor to the meal. Ordering online was easy, although the estimated time for pick up was way off. I ordered on a Friday evening so I was pleasantly surprised to see it would be ready in 15 min. However, after ordering I received a phone call to inform me it was actually estimated to be ready for pick up in 45 min. I didn't mind at all since I understand dinner rushes. I also just appreciated the courtesy phone call. When it was ready, about 40 min later, I received another courtesy phone call. That's the kind of service I appreciate! The hot and sour soup was good but the pork fried rice was dry and it was a challenge to find the pork. I grew up eating Hong Kong Chinese food from Merced when it was downtown and the food we shared tonight took me right back! Our family of four shared potstickers appetizer, a dinner combo plate with veggie egg foo young, hot and sour soup, pork fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and chicken chow mein. I mean it when I say everything was DELICIOUS! It tasted fresh and the meat was perfect. I can't stop thinking about it and I'm hoping we can detour here once again before heading home.
