Absolutely outstanding. By far the best sushi that I have had in Canada. Oka is an artist. We eat here every time we are in Jasper. The prices are very fair for the high calibre of food and perfect presentation. I highly recommend this restaurant. There are only 11 or 12 seats though, so you will want to make a reservation in advance.

The chef is very meticulous and attentive to details, he makes sure your sushi is well done and nicely decorated. This place had some of the best sushi I've ever eaten. Strongly recommended, but you should reserve prior to coming because it can get packed fairly quickly.

Kinda like a theme rock or something of the sorts but it was definitely not. It was actually very nice inside, casual dining with a very fun menu. I wish I was hungry enough to try everything. Everything on the menu sounded so good and interesting. Even their drinks. The cocktails all sounded so good. We tried one of them and it was dangerous. I'd love to come back to try more!

The ambiance was nicer than expected given the name, it was comfortable and modern but lacked any charm. The drinks were a highlight, we all enjoyed our cocktails and mocktails. The server was also very attentive and communicative. The only item we really enjoyed was the goat cheese poutine. That was delicious. The entrees were boring. Two of my party got the blackened salmon special with rice, vegetables and curry aioli. They expected a flavorful experience but got white rice, steamed vegetables and barely seasoned salmon with a small side of flavored mayo. It was cooked well but just not very tasty. I got one of the staff favorites, the bison meatloaf, which was also pretty bland. The meals were served like a convention center banquet meal instead of saucy, flavorful and fun.

On my extended family reunion up to the Rockies, we ate here for dinner and was wowed by the quality of the food. We saw the ratings for Tokyo Sushi and decided to give it a try. Went into restaurant and notice many tables are empty. There are still two large parties eating sushi though, so I was optimistic. I signal a table for four to the lady at the back. Almost immediately she gives me a weird look and uses aggressive hand gestures to shoo me away. She tells us they are closed. A little aggravated by my hunger and her poor manners, I ask the lady if they are doing take-out still. I inform her politely of how hungry we were and how much we would appreciate it if we could just get some fast take-out, as we see other families are still finishing their meals. She doesn't even acknowledge me! In fact, she is angry at this point that I haven't left. Her gestures becoming even more aggressive as she quickly shoos me away from the restaurant. I was really looking forward to this place and trying some top quality sushi. Instead, I was greeted with rudeness and an empty stomach. Went back to the hotel and ate instant oatmeal. It was a sad day for my inner foodie.

The Whisky Jack Grill Jasper, Alberta Canada July 2026 I…read morewas in Jasper for two days, on a train vacation that got me out of the District for the semi quincentennial. On Amtrak the trip began in Washington, D.C., through Chicago, then Seattle, then Jasper. Amtrak got me to Seattle seamlessly; and VIA Rail Canada got me from Seattle to Jasper, just as painlessly. Really good planning by my Amtrak Vacations representative, Kevin Guadagnoli, who was working through Railbookers. During the time I had in Jasper, I had the chance to breathe, to observe, to inhale, and to enjoy. Jasper provided all of this, and The Whisky Jack Grill was a major part of the benefits of this trip. I was at the Grill in mid-afternoon, and Tereza was there with no wait and a menu, and a helpful attitude. I settled in with no prior knowledge of what the venue had to offer. Great start: the menu included a beef goulash (spicy smoked paprika beef, potato and onion with a fresh oven-baked baguette, $22) that I was sorely tempted to order, and a competitor - beef Stroganoff (served with linguine past, topped with sour cream and pickles, $34). But I was looking for a lighter option and found it with an appetizer: sticky-finger black pepper tofu! Peppercorn, honey-molasses, butter glazed tempura-fried tofu, served with a delicious Asian slaw ($22). That plus a 4 p.m. double gin and tonic ($12) brought the bill for my late lunch to $35.70 plus a $5 CAD tip. Really impressive service, excellent food, and reasonably priced. Conversation friendly, spacious, and relaxing. I doubt I'll have the chance to return to Jasper (I'm 70 and live in D.C. and my traveling days may be numbered) but if the four winds bring me back, I'll save space for The Whisky Jack Grill. (And I don't mean to be a pest, but according to the venue, there is no "e" in Whisky". Just saying, because that's what's on the postcard they left with my tab.)

The beef stroganoff special also looked delicious. Service was friendly, and the views of the mountains from inside the restaurant were beautiful! They also had a great local beer selection. We grabbed the blueberry pie to go, and it came with ice cream, so good. We would definitely come back during a future stay in Jasper!
