Really lovely spot, tucked away outside of the main Jasper stretch. The place had a really cool, with campfires in the back, and a calming interior. The whole vibe was very homey. We ordered the mushroom toast, the pork belly, and the dan dan noodles. The noodles were far and away the best item, absolutely delicious! The pork belly was quite good as well. The mushroom toast wasn't bad, but we wished the mushrooms were a bit more pureed, the chunks of mushroom were a bit difficult to eat. Overall hugely recommended! read more

It was normal cheesecake that was flamed on top. It was definitely the most memorable dish. Unfortunately, it was the worst dish of our trip. All I can say is, it reminded me too much of my own baking (which I normally burn), except that it takes much more talent to burn the top than the bottom. My husband tried to eat the black char and I told him if he did, then he would need to schedule himself for a colonoscopy, because he'll be walking away with colon cancer if he ate it. First, more positives: I like the vibe of the bistro - there was a bar at the front and someone was just hanging out on their laptop. It wasn't too busy or crowded. I liked that they had some goods to browse through while waiting for the rest of the party to arrive. The bathroom was also very clean. I liked the overall aesthetic - modern cabin chic. The menu has the name of the chef. So I was kind of hoping for an experience similar to one I had in Colorado at a small sushi restaurant where there is no menu, and the chef creates an experience for you, and you treasure every single bite. I didn't quite get that here unfortunately. And I was on a diet (still am) and with people who don't prefer certain foods, so maybe there would be other things that I would try. Yeah, no. While some of the dishes were EASIER to share than at the Juniper, they were not great for sharing. In my last review, I had thought maybe it's because there are more Asian tourists who like to family-style every meal. Or maybe this is the new trendy thing. Maybe it's a Canadian thing. Here's a new hypothesis: maybe so many of these dishes are so overpriced and everyone wants to try a little bit of everything, so they don't have to feel shame when they start sharing these small plates with each other, the servers give them "permission" to family style. The idea of tapas is great - but these are fancy dishes that don't have much substance to them and it's really hard to split some things 6 ways. At least there were serving ware this time. Finally, this is a special tid-bit to whoever reads this long review: Avoid sitting near the hanging exit sign if you are more than 6 feet tall. My brother-in-law sat under the sign and when he stood up, he knocked his head very strongly against the sign. Not good for safety. Functionality over aesthetics is what I prefer. Highly recommend this hole in the wall to anyone visiting Jasper!! I wasn't sure what we were getting ourselves as the place was inside the Pine Bungalows Resort but it did not disappoint. The waitress explained to us that it was best to order 1-2 dishes per person and share the various dishes family style. We were excited to try this spot after seeing the menu! The restaurant is located in the lobby of hotel buy there's plenty of seating indoors and on the patio for a full meal. We came for dinner and made an easy reservation online. The menu is designed to be shared with 1-2 dishes per person depending on how hungry you are. We ended up getting the elk tartare, dry-aged ribeye steak and roasted brussel sprouts to share. The tartare was our favorite dish as the flavors worked super well with the elk and hid any gaminess. It was also served with super crisp seaweed crackers. The steak and brussels were the perfect main to share with super tender steak, soft roasted potatoes and delicious brussel sprouts with maple lardons. This was our favorite meal during our trip in Banff and Jasper - definitely come check this out if you're in the area! read more

Jasper why hide this gem on the outskirts of town!? Food here is so tasty and Willow is such a kind server. We came here for lunch and honestly almost left because its hidden in a little inn and not obvious that it even exists. That said, we're so glad we gave it a try. The food was fantastic and such a refreshing change from Jasper pub food. Only wish that they're dinner menu was also served as lunch menu. Lunch was really mostly breakfast foods. Came here for dinner and it was not busy. I got recommended the tuna and 2 other things but I didn't feel like trying them so I got the tuna. I also wanted to ordered the kale but they were sold out so I decided to go with the meatballs instead. The tuna was really good. Everything on the plate matched the other so it all was good. The meatballs were decent, I honestly think the bread was the best since they had it nicely toasted with some butter or topping. The meatballs themselves were pretty large though so I think I might have ordered too much but I was able to finish. Service was quick but the location of the restaurant is right in the lobby of the hotel so there's lots of people coming in and checking in. read more

I'm surprised there was not a lot of reviews for this place! This is definitely a hidden gem of Jasper. I don't remember how I found this place but I'm glad I did. We had 4 nights in Jasper and most of the food we ate was either okay or good (but not memorable)-- the only other stand out in Jasper was Sunhouse. But Kumama was on a whole other level. Their menu is not huge and since it was our last night in Jasper we basically ate 1/3 of the menu. We had the carrot ginger soup, root vegetable carpaccio, risotto, and trout. Everything was divine and beautifully presented. I've never seen root vegetables look so pretty and taste so good. The trout was so fresh -- I would have wanted just a little bit more salt but that's just a personal preference. I LOVED the risotto! It was so flavorful and the texture was perfect. We ended with a twist of the house made vanilla and chocolate soft serve. I don't recall what spices were in the chocolate but it reminded me of a Mexican hot chocolate. It was delicious and not overly sweet which is what I like. Kat was our waitress and she was very friendly and attentive. And what's even better is their little canteen area! They have snacks, drinks, sandwiches, pre-made food for you to take home. I had heard about these maple flavored gummies so I got a bag of those and these cheese flavored pretzels. I'd highly recommend coming here! Maybe once more people know about them then reservations may be needed :) read more

We stayed at Pine Burrows for a few nights and ended up seeing this place near the reception desk. The food was the best we'd had on our trip. That we ate there for all three meals we had in Jasper. I forgot to take pictures of most of the things we ordered but they were all really delicious. For dinner, it's similar to tapas or family style, where it's encouraged to share dishes The beets were chunky and fresh, I really loved the extra veggies and ricotta. We got the crab cakes, which came perfectly crusted with a sauce that had a curry taste to it. Went really well! The tagliatelle was definitely my favorite though, the prawns were perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. The added lemony asparagus also helped ensure the dish wasn't too heavy. The eggs Benedict was amazing -- I appreciated the salad on the side which made the whole meal a lot lighter before a day of hiking. The poached egg is placed on a puff pastry, which is a bit hard to eat since it crumbles, but delicious nonetheless. I wish I lived closer, so I'd be able to have this place more often, but I'm glad we got the opportunity to eat here while staying in Jasper! read more

The food was so good! Best meal we had on our trip. We called to see how long the wait for a walk in might be and they said they could seat us, we just had to leave by a certain time since they had reservations. So highly recommend calling or making reservations as they are very popular and it isn't a huge place. The food and drinks were incredible, and our waitstaff was so friendly. We were one of two groups in at the time so the service was quick. When I come back to Jasper, this will be the first reservation I make! read more

So I am actually excited to write this review! This place is an absolute gem! It is located just outside the town. Planned to come here for dinner (which looked great tbh) but when we saw the breakfast menu, we changed our mind and came here for breakfast instead, cause it had many of our favorites. We came with a lot of expectations and it did not disappoint. The breakfast sandwich was stunning. I would take that on a desert island with me. It was soo tasty and savory with the jalapeño aioli and the meats. My husband had the chorizo brava and it was so satisfying but I liked mine better. Ended it all with pancakes with blueberry compote and chantilly cream which was a perfect sweet ending. Could eat here everyday! read more

The shrimp pasta had a lemony cream sauce that was light and flavorful. The tuna was seared to perfection and loved the seared rice as well. The beet salad was lightly dressed and the goat cheese added the right amount of savoriness. The Brussels sprouts was a bit on the sweet side for me but was lightly flash fried to perfection. Novel taste, friendly staff, and nice ambiance. However, just because the food is novel doesn't mean it's great. Of the dishes I tried (pork belly, tuna, mushroom, carrots, tagliatelle) I would recommend the carrots. Very sweet. The breaded mushroom is interesting but made the mushroom lose all of its original taste. The tagliatelle is mushy and on the tasteless side. The pork belly is dry. I wanted to try Kumama after seeing the menu and dining space from the lobby of Pine Bungalows, where I stayed overnight in Jasper. The Bungalows offer a small discount voucher here for guests which is a welcome perk. My eggs Benedict was not runny altho I asked for soft poach, but the Hollandaise and the freshness of the spring mix salad and egg were excellent. Served on a puff buttery pastry, with thick cut bacon in between, this was a very unique take on an eggs benny! I think I still prefer it on an English muffin, especially since the butter pastry and egg weren't quite the best blend for my palette, but it was definitely something new that I wanted to try. Service was friendly and attentive. I'd say it's worth the drive out to this location for both brunch and dinner- it's nestled in the woods so I think it'll be a fun experience to get out of the busy commercial district of downtown Jasper to dine here. read more

We stayed in the Pine Bungalows and had a dinner there in our first night. The ambiance was cosy and friendly. We tried a few things from its menu. The ribeye was cooked to perfect temperature, the tagliatelle was also very fresh and crunchy, but the tuna was below my expectation.
