I think prolly the only K restaurant in Jasper, Alberta, so we took the plunge and I definitely recommend! Bon chan is limited and doesn't include Kim chee - which is an extra $4! Not sure I've seen that before. 7. Yuk Gae Jang Stew made with beef, bean, sprouts, vegetables, and clear potato noodles. Lots of hearty flavors here. 8. Man Doo Gook Korean wonton soup with thin skinned, egg dumplings filled with vegetables. Amazing they have man doo all the way here - pretty authentic and home made. 13. Gal Bi Marinated beef short ribs served on a sizzling plate. This is always gonna be a pricier classic Korean dish so we had to try it. A little sweeter than what we're used to nonetheless very savory and a great combo with the white rice. They give you nice big scissors to make the appropriate cuts. 20. DolSot-BiBimBap Hot stone bowl - served piping hot in an earthenware pot, includes rice, a colorful variety of vegetables, beef, and an egg mixed with red chili paste. You cannot go wrong here and it keeps really well for leftovers too. I love the crunchy rice as it adds texture to the dish. Overall great atmosphere, a full authentic menu and good service. That's all.... read more

Meal was just okay! Tofu soup was super salty -- had to add water to it lol. The beef in my soup was also very tough (and salty). Rice was mushy. The vibe was more like premade broth / bouillon. Also they were playing like full on orchestral classical music which was a riveting and mildly stressful dining experience. read more

Restaurant was clean and busy. I ordered the Soondubu Jjijae with seafood which was good but not as much seafood as I usually get at other restaurants. Also no free banchan served here. read more

Ok this is why I love Canada y'all - a quality Korean meal in the middle of a National park. I knew this place was good when they don't take reservations and there is a line, and the clientele is mostly Asian. Always full. We ordered the shared dinner for six since we had 7, plus Kalbi and Soondubu. Everything was really good. The food comes FAST - very impressive and we were hungry. Highlights - - Kalbi was very delicious. Great flavour. - all the soups were really good. Especiallly the big soup that comes with the six person dinner. Great flavour and good noodle consistency. - the chicken dishes were great especially the stir fry. Really good flavour. - seafood dish in the six person dinner was decent. It had fish with great flavour. I can see why there is a line and they are always busy. Really deserving in my opinion. read more

We were in Jasper and ate here on a whim. I didn't have great cell reception so I couldn't check Yelp first as I usually do. We thought the food was very good. Had the fried noodles with beef and vegetables.... This was outstanding. Also had a huge bowl of what is essentially won ton soup ... also very good. Not big on ambiance ... but very friendly service and overall a very positive experience. I'd def go back again read more

The food was BOMB!! we ordered the combination meal for 4 and it did not disappoint. we swapped the noodled soup for the soon doo bu beef tofu soup, and it was really good! also recommend their egg rolls. everything that came with the meal was super yummy. they were busy and service was still fast. place looks clean and ample seating. read more

We ordered the dinner for 2 Kun Man Doo (dumpling 8 pieces), - nice flavor - our favorite thing Woo dong - this was similar to water with cabbage Bul Go Gi(beef) - it was ok - not very good quality of beef and little to no flavor Spicy Dak Bul Go Gi(chicken) - way to much kimchee flavor in it - we didn't finish it My kids really liked the egg rolls though read more

The service was great, very sweet servers. The atmosphere was not like a Korean restaurant, no decors music that's Korean. The food was not very authentic. My husband and I had bibimbap and tofu soup. They don't give banchan for free but you have to pay. Understandable since this restaurant is far from any Asian markets but lettuce was the main veggie in my bibimbab. If anyone is desperate to have a Korean dish, this can work. People around me who were eating meat looked pretty okay. read more

The first thing I have to point out, is that we had to purchase banchans, and that made us sad. Then the banchans came and didn't taste great, that made us sadder... The food was alright, but personally I think my bi bim bap tasted a bit off. As the rice was a bit soggy so the texture wasn't quite right. In fact, the rice got seriously stuck on the sizzling clay pot, and I had to REALLY scrape it off (with force).  My fiance got Yuk ge jang and he said it was "fine". It was spicy but not flavorful. I think overall we were disappointed because the banchans were not complimentary and the food seems to be off/water down. We understand it's more costly to get ingredients to Jasper, but we would rather pay extra to get good dining experience. If we could choose again, I think we would opt for other restaurants in Jasper. read more

I usually never even bother to leave a review, but I had to. Never been so disappointed in Korean food before. 1. No side dishes. No matter what korean resturant you go to, there is always side dishes. I understand it's a tourist town so I expected higher tourist price but no side dishes really? 2. Appetizer, I ordered bingdaeduk (mung bean pancake). 2 tiny pancakes? For 10 dollars? 3. Main: Yukgaejang (traditionally has beef brisket, gosari (dried bracken fern). But almost no sign of meat. Just a few pity flakes! I usually don't expect much from tourist mountain town korean resturants but this is too much! They called themselves kimchi house but where is the kimchi?? You have to buy it separately rather than as a default side dish. read more

Kimchi House - Yukgaejang. Except it's not really. Watery sweet soup. - Korean Near Me - Jasper, Alberta

One of the few ethnic food choices in Jasper. Located in the city center, Kimchi House serves satisfying Korean food to a mostly tourist crowd. It was packed even at the start of the summer season, while most other places are sitting at about half capacity. No dedicated parking spaces, so look for some street parking, or preferably walk. Waitstaff was very friendly. There was a brief wait for dinner for a party of 3, and most tables are built for up to 4 people. No KBBQ grilling tables, all meat is pre-cooked. Tables can be combined for larger parties. We got a jug of water for our table and waitresses were very responsive whenever we asked for anything. It's a little cramped inside and does not give off Korean vibes at all, but kept reasonably tidy. Was disappointed to see that banchan is not free, but charged per side dish. The menus displayed in the window are slightly different than the printed ones we were given, and display a variety of basic traditional cuisine. Would not recommend getting the set meals as they don't encompass the best dishes and are for people who don't really know what to order and play it safe with their food. Food came in a reasonable time. We started with the Tofu and Kimchi (exactly what it sounds like, nothing crazy here, although the tofu was fresh), and Bin Dae Duk. I was surprised that they didn't have kimchi or seafood pancakes, and these doughy alternatives were small but fine. The Saeng-Son Jegae was our favorite of the evening. It's a little sodium-heavy as a lot of spicy Korean soups are, but there was a solid quantity of seafood and good ratio of broth to meat/vegetables. Bulgogi was a little on the sweet side, but does the job. Dolsot Bibimbap was also decent. Leave the bottom layer of rice alone when mixing so it continues cooking in the stone bowl, and scrape off the crispy bits at the end to eat. Two single room washrooms in the back, one marked for male and other for female. All in all, a welcome alternative to more traditional pub food in Jasper that won't win any culinary awards, but certainly hits the spot after hiking up a chilly mountain. read more

The food is not bad, per se but I wouldn't really call it authentic Korean food. The soon tofu felt very watered down and lost a lot of its taste. The tteokbokki (rice cakes) was not quite what I expected, especially the shape of the fish cakes but it had a nice mix of items. The bibim naengmyun was overflowing with toppings and the beef was odd in that it's not what I usually find in the dish and was too warm for a cold dish. There was also a LOT of cucumber and radish. The dolset bibimbap was weirdly watery However if I didn't know these were specific Korean dishes, they weren't too bad. It gets busy though so you might have to wait for a table. read more

If you're really craving Korean food or soup, then this place will do, but it's not as good as even Banff or Canmore. But for not having any other option, not bad, otherwise more of a 3-3.5, star. Food was pretty tasty, but a bit on the saltier side. Got the Bul Galbi and dumpling soup. Wish there were rice cakes with the soup. The galbi was sizzling hot so that was nice, just very oily. The biggest disappointment was that side dishes aren't included and we're actually quite pricey add ons. But when craving Korean food, it hits the spot enough read more

Off street parking on Downtown Jasper. Food is Korean. Service okay, wrong juice order. Ambiance family style. Barley tea only comes in pot.

Sure, it's a little dated on the interior, but one of the best meals we ate in Jasper on our entire trip! We had the "dinner for two" with chicken and beef. It also came with an excellent soup and a dumpling appetizer. We loved every bite. I can only hope to find some Korean food even close to this good when we get home. Thanks! read more

If your looking for a restaurant that is still open and doing business with normal hours? Check out the Kimchi House. After the fires of this spring the downtown area is still trying to come back. We were passing by late afternoon evening and had a hard time finding anything open that was sit down service. If your from the lower 48 don't expect this to be your average Korean restaurant. No Banchon was served with our meal. Well I stand corrected you can get the Banchon but they charge for it. But our main entrees were very good. Plenty of seating. Clean, attentive service. Clean restrooms too. Do not have a parking lot, only paid street parking. read more

The food is okay. Decent even if you consider you're in an area where good Asian food is not expected. And the wait staff in the dining room, well, you can see they're doing their best-- I really feel for 'em. But having had friends visit this place before COVID-19 who reported their kitchen was a bloody disaster (I want to say this was 2017?), well, their kitchen situation is still a terrible mess, at least for dining in. This visit, we watched several even not large groups (say 2 or 4 people, let alone one group of 12 people) who would get say 1 dish... then wait another 20 minutes for another dish. Friends and I watches several groups, over 40+ minutes, get maybe 2 dishes or 3 dishes, trickled out slowly, one at a time, while the rest of their group waited. One particularly bold set of diners got one appetizer dish, then straight up asked their waitress how much longer til the next. Their waitress went back to the kitchen, reported it'd be at least 20 minutes (!), which very understandably was not going to fly and the diners, very politely, informed her they would be leaving, paid for the dish they ate, and left. As the evening wound on, this scene or ones like it repeated at least a half-dozen times. I don't know why the kitchen here is such a disorganized mess, let alone has been for 5 years or longer. I can only report what I witnessed, and that the dishes friends and I ordered took nearly an hour to come out in the end. I'm not sure we stayed because we felt bad or we (politely and silently) wanted to watch the disaster unfold? Oh yeah, for the record, ban chan is not complimentary here; you will pay for each dish of kim chi or beansprouts or whatnot you order, and you will also pay for each bowl of rice. I can understand it's not cheap to operate in Jasper, but figured I might as well be complete. read more

i am not sure (like the last person) why this only got 3 stars. Service was friendly and great and speedy. Many great dishes on the menu. Food was amazing. Dining room was a bit dated, especially for Jasper but these things could be overloooked with the food. I ordered the spicy squid (hot) with rice. And my husband had the bulgogi. Both came in a timely manner and were extremely flavourful. For Jasper the price was resonable. I will come here for dinner for sure again. There are many things I would like to try. I saw some hotpots that came out that looked really great. Servers were amazing and the hostess seemed to really care about the people she served. Awesome experience. read more

This is a must try in Jasper. The Korean food is delicious. I've had a lot of Korean food around the big cities in the states and this food is top 5. Service is great! I had no complaints. I would recommend getting the plates vs KBBQ. KBBQ is not similar to the states but still a decent experience. Only Con: - side dishes (kimchi, ginger, extra rice etc.. doesn't come with your food) must be purchased. read more

My family and I asked around on our vacation to Jasper, and Kimchi House came highly recommended! My main frusteration with this place is the amount of time it took for my family to receive our food. We ordered the large family pack, and given the amount of food and the number of people in the restaurant already, we anticipated a long wait. That being said, we waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food. This was especially frustrating given that we were told that it would take 25 minutes to get the food. The food on the other hand was simply phenomenal. Every dish was perfectly cooked and I throughly enjoyed each dish. My family of 5 were extremely full leaving the restaurant, and felt good about the cost of what we ate as well. Overall, the wait did deter my rating, but the food saved it all. read more

I would have given this place 3 stars for the price and no ban-chan but it's been a while since I've had good Korean food (there is none in Hawaii), and I love the staff so I gave it another star. After traveling for over a week without any Korean or spicy food, I was craving Korean especially as Jasper was initially cold when I got there. Found Kimchi House and ended up eating twice here. Both times were well worth the wait...and there was a wait both times. Service was better than expected in light of the circumstances. The first night, half of the restaurant was reserved for a tour group. The second night, we arrived during dinner rush and waited about 40 minutes to be seated (felt like I was back in Hawaii where waiting is the norm)...and there was no tour group this time around but the place was packed. Both nights the food was spot on but a bit pricey for Korean food and you get no ban-chan (side dishes) unless you order them. This is unusual for Korean restaurants as the ban-chan tends to set each place apart. Flip side is that there is no wasted food. Highly recommend this place if you are ever in Jasper. read more

We were craving Asian food after an all day hike so we picked this place given the better Yelp reviews (vs other Asian spots nearby). Got there just before 5pm and there were many open tables. The restaurant wasn't busy, but the service was terribly lacking. It was hard to get water refilled. When asked for sauce on the side, they refused saying that our dish didn't come with extra sauce. Well, we needed more sauce because our food was sooo bland. We can't recommend this place if you've had good Korean food in the past. You will be disappointed. Hesitated coming to a Korean place since I like in Los Angeles- a place with amazing Korean food. However, this place was recommended by my tour guide from a cruise earlier today. Anyway, all the talking about Korean food got me craving it so we came close to 20 min before closing- which I was not aware of but we got seated right away. Browsing through the menu but before I was ready to order, one of the waitress rushed over and told us the kitchen was closing and we had to order NOW. We hurriedly ordered a bibimbap and galbi by default. I wanted to order a soupy dish so asked for recommendations. The waitress quickly pointed out a few but I could send her urgency to have us order something quick. As I looked at the items she referred to, my bf said we should just leave since they're closing. The waitress muttered something i didn't quite get but sounded like she wanted us out too. Whatever, I was craving Korean food so no, we are staying! Anyway, I just decided to leave it as those two items since I couldn't and didn't want to make a quick decision. My bf was irked and told me later it was because when I was inquiring about the menu, our waitress made a face to the other waitresses like she was irritated that's why my bf said we should just leave. My thing is, if they didn't even want to serve us, they shouldn't have seated us to begin with. Anyway, a Korean waitress brought us our food and was super kind. The other 3 Filipino waitresses were more on the "hurry up and eat your food and get out of here so we can close" attitude. Ok the food- The bibimbap was delicious and satisfied my craving. I like softer rice so this dish was excellent for me. I actually didn't want it on the stone pot because it cost more and I didn't care for the crunch rice at the bottom. However, the Filipino waitress just rung me up for the more expensive item. The galbi. Yikes. It came on the sizzling skillet which was neat but it was raw and stringy when the skillet stopped sizzling. We had to ask to have them take it back to cook a bit more, yikes. I actually would go back again if I ever come through this town and order other items on the menu because they looked good. However, I would definitely request for the Korean waitress. The "Ate"waitresses did a disservice to this restaurant, unfortunately. read more

Except for the fact that they don't have side dishes as usual, everything tasted pretty good and was great for the cold weather. I would recommend the dolsot dup bap over the dolsot bibimbap because they have bigger and more flavorful pieces of beef rather than the ground beef that was given in the bibimbap. The yuk gae jang is great if youre looking for a warm noodle dish. The sundubu is a little lacking in the amount of tofu given compared to the restaurants in LA. ##Found fly in food & extremely rude store-owner## FOUND a fly in my dish. A girl took away the food and gave us a replacement dish without saying anything. She did not ask how we wanted it to be settled. The replacement was served in a noticeably smaller size, and this raised doubts about whether it was a freshly prepared dish or merely a portion of the previous one. I left the food there and did not eat it... We paid for all the other food we had consumed, and we thought at the very least, the bill for the soup with fly should have been comped.... However, the store owner yelled and interrogated us as to why we refused to pay for the dish with the fly. He yelled out that "flies in food is a normal thing and happens very often". We asked him did this happen a lot in his restaurant? He refused to answer the question and said, "I don't know". We refused to pay for the soup (mostly because of his attitude) and started recording the whole thing. He did not apologize the whole time... Very disappointed. If you ever find yourself in Jasper and just have to have Korean food then this is the place...well its the only place. Actually was surprised Jasper had a Korean restaurant. Didn't know what to expect but took one for the team. Restaurant is small but neat. As other reviewers have mentioned the ban chan's are ala carte. Went for value and the wife and I had the meal for two for $42 CDN. For this you get fried mandoo, which was tasty, crispy and the sauce wasn't fancy but worked well. Second course was an udon style soup. Broth was a bit heavy on the black pepper but warm and not too salty. The vegetables in the udon soup were somewhat non-standard. Head cabbage, carrots, mushroom, broccoli. Must be tough to get produce to the middle of a national park. Next came the main dishes. Beef stir-fry and chicken stir-fry. Thought it was going to be bulgogi and chicken bulgogi but no, stir-fry and with the same vegetables as the udon soup. Deja vu. Service was attentive and given the location I think they did okay. If there is a next time I'd go with ordering off the menu. The more traditional dishes that other patrons were eating looked better. read more
