Ok this is why I love Canada y'all - a quality Korean meal in the middle of a National park. I knew this place was good when they don't take reservations and there is a line, and the clientele is mostly Asian. Always full. We ordered the shared dinner for six since we had 7, plus Kalbi and Soondubu. Everything was really good. The food comes FAST - very impressive and we were hungry. Highlights - - Kalbi was very delicious. Great flavour. - all the soups were really good. Especiallly the big soup that comes with the six person dinner. Great flavour and good noodle consistency. - the chicken dishes were great especially the stir fry. Really good flavour. - seafood dish in the six person dinner was decent. It had fish with great flavour. I can see why there is a line and they are always busy. Really deserving in my opinion.
We were in Jasper and ate here on a whim. I didn't have great cell reception so I couldn't check Yelp first as I usually do. We thought the food was very good. Had the fried noodles with beef and vegetables.... This was outstanding. Also had a huge bowl of what is essentially won ton soup ... also very good. Not big on ambiance ... but very friendly service and overall a very positive experience. I'd def go back again
The first thing I have to point out, is that we had to purchase banchans, and that made us sad. Then the banchans came and didn't taste great, that made us sadder... The food was alright, but personally I think my bi bim bap tasted a bit off. As the rice was a bit soggy so the texture wasn't quite right. In fact, the rice got seriously stuck on the sizzling clay pot, and I had to REALLY scrape it off (with force). My fiance got Yuk ge jang and he said it was "fine". It was spicy but not flavorful. I think overall we were disappointed because the banchans were not complimentary and the food seems to be off/water down. We understand it's more costly to get ingredients to Jasper, but we would rather pay extra to get good dining experience. If we could choose again, I think we would opt for other restaurants in Jasper.
I usually never even bother to leave a review, but I had to. Never been so disappointed in Korean food before. 1. No side dishes. No matter what korean resturant you go to, there is always side dishes. I understand it's a tourist town so I expected higher tourist price but no side dishes really? 2. Appetizer, I ordered bingdaeduk (mung bean pancake). 2 tiny pancakes? For 10 dollars? 3. Main: Yukgaejang (traditionally has beef brisket, gosari (dried bracken fern). But almost no sign of meat. Just a few pity flakes! I usually don't expect much from tourist mountain town korean resturants but this is too much! They called themselves kimchi house but where is the kimchi?? You have to buy it separately rather than as a default side dish.
One of the few ethnic food choices in Jasper. Located in the city center, Kimchi House serves satisfying Korean food to a mostly tourist crowd. It was packed even at the start of the summer season, while most other places are sitting at about half capacity. No dedicated parking spaces, so look for some street parking, or preferably walk. Waitstaff was very friendly. There was a brief wait for dinner for a party of 3, and most tables are built for up to 4 people. No KBBQ grilling tables, all meat is pre-cooked. Tables can be combined for larger parties. We got a jug of water for our table and waitresses were very responsive whenever we asked for anything. It's a little cramped inside and does not give off Korean vibes at all, but kept reasonably tidy. Was disappointed to see that banchan is not free, but charged per side dish. The menus displayed in the window are slightly different than the printed ones we were given, and display a variety of basic traditional cuisine. Would not recommend getting the set meals as they don't encompass the best dishes and are for people who don't really know what to order and play it safe with their food. Food came in a reasonable time. We started with the Tofu and Kimchi (exactly what it sounds like, nothing crazy here, although the tofu was fresh), and Bin Dae Duk. I was surprised that they didn't have kimchi or seafood pancakes, and these doughy alternatives were small but fine. The Saeng-Son Jegae was our favorite of the evening. It's a little sodium-heavy as a lot of spicy Korean soups are, but there was a solid quantity of seafood and good ratio of broth to meat/vegetables. Bulgogi was a little on the sweet side, but does the job. Dolsot Bibimbap was also decent. Leave the bottom layer of rice alone when mixing so it continues cooking in the stone bowl, and scrape off the crispy bits at the end to eat. Two single room washrooms in the back, one marked for male and other for female. All in all, a welcome alternative to more traditional pub food in Jasper that won't win any culinary awards, but certainly hits the spot after hiking up a chilly mountain.
The food is not bad, per se but I wouldn't really call it authentic Korean food. The soon tofu felt very watered down and lost a lot of its taste. The tteokbokki (rice cakes) was not quite what I expected, especially the shape of the fish cakes but it had a nice mix of items. The bibim naengmyun was overflowing with toppings and the beef was odd in that it's not what I usually find in the dish and was too warm for a cold dish. There was also a LOT of cucumber and radish. The dolset bibimbap was weirdly watery However if I didn't know these were specific Korean dishes, they weren't too bad. It gets busy though so you might have to wait for a table.
We were looking for some soups to warm us us from hiking on a drizzly and cold day. We got a few of the soups, the beef bulgogi and the dinner for two. It really hit the spot. My favorite was the spicy chicken dish. Service was fast and good too.
Sure, it's a little dated on the interior, but one of the best meals we ate in Jasper on our entire trip! We had the "dinner for two" with chicken and beef. It also came with an excellent soup and a dumpling appetizer. We loved every bite. I can only hope to find some Korean food even close to this good when we get home. Thanks!

We waited TWO HOURS for our food. That being said, they were most likely understaffed during peak vacation time. However, I have actually never waited this long. It was ridiculous. The food is not bad, comes in boiling clay pots and has good flavor. But it is not worth the wait! We were here at 7pm, waited in line for an hour, and didn't leave until 10:30! read more

Service was kind of slow as it took them 45 mins to bring out our entrees. They were packed on a Friday night but also probably short on staffing. However their food more than compensated for the wait time. We ordered beef chapjae (#27) and squid and pork on a sizzling plate (#16) and both were delicious! read more
We didn't expect there would be any Korean restaurants in Jasper but surprisingly we found one near our hotel and we had to try even though we thought it couldn't be authentic. We just hoped it's edible and didn't have any expectations. However, food was surprisingly good and we actually loved our seafood stew sooooo much. It was a lot for two people so we couldn't try any other foods but I can guarantee that at least the seafood stew was excellent. I don't know if I'm going to ever go back to jasper but if I do, i would definitely go back to this place and try other foods too. read more

The waiter is slow to respond. We need wait for 10 min before a waiter talk to us. The chef is also slow. You ordered "to go", they did not put utensil inside. There are something hard in the food. Attached. read more

I am also unsure why this place is only averaged around 3 stars? I was surprised that there was actually a Korean restaurant in Jasper too. Seemed really random. So when I saw it, I was so excited! Coming from Vancouver, I am not new to Korean cuisine as we have a lot of great Korean restaurants in my city. With Vancouver Korean restaurant food as my baseline, I must say that this place is actually quite good! We ordered the soondubu, bulgogi/squid dish and a dolsot bibimbap. The soondubu was average but a good portion, comes with rice. The bulgogi/squid dish was very flavourful - I was recommend this one and it also comes with rice. Dolsot bibmbap was average too. As everyone else mentions, yes there are no free side dishes at the beginning however you can order them separate for extra cost (approx. around 3-4$ per?). We ordered some kimchi and bean sprouts and the portions they give you for side dishes are bigger than usual but I mean you are paying for it... All in all, a good and satisfying experience at this place. The restaurant can be quite busy.. and possibly short staffed? They literally only had oen young employee acting as the hostess and server. With COVID restrictions right now, they were running around frantically trying to serve everyone at 50% capacity... I had to wait a while to get the server's attention just to pay. At times, even the cooks came out and served us dishes personally since the waitress was so busy. read more

- Very pricey - No Free Banchan (Korean mini side dishes) - No Free Kimchi - Muted and toned down flavours - Not that spectacular The only reason why I gave two stars is that because it exists here in Jasper. It is definitely a restaurant to cater to the palates of the tourists and not to provide authentic Korean flavours. Good thing I can now make Korean food at home with the fact that I've purchased gochujang and gochugaru. As a local, I should be supporting local businesses. However, it is difficult to do so if the local businesses are there to cater more to the tourists. read more

Good food, if you crave for some hot korean cuisine. We went there 2 times and my favorite was spicy bul go gi, delicious. Wait time maybe the big drawback, so get there before 8pm. read more

Really enjoyed our meal at Kimchi House. The best Korean we've ever had. We ordered the dinner for two and added some kimchi and bean sprouts. The dinner came with dumplings, Korean wonton soup, marinated beef, spicy chicken, and rice. Everything was delicious. I've now decided that Korean wonton soup is the best wonton soup. The chicken was amazing. We ordered it medium, but it was pretty mild. I would order it hot next time. We've eaten a lot of kimchi, and this was probably the best we've ever had. Our 3 year old daughter was with us and she loved everything as well. The staff/owners are super friendly and went out of their way to make us and our daughter welcome. The place is nicely decorated and SUPER CLEAN, which we really appreciate. I wish we had a Korean restaurant this good in Edmonton. I'd want eat here weekly. (No, Bul Go Gi House is nowhere near as good as this.) There is no question that we will return to the Kimchi house every time we're Jasper. read more

Delicious, tasty Korean cuisine. We loved it so much we ate here twice during our visit in Jasper. The interior and exterior is a little dated by don't let that stop you. We especially enjoyed the seafood hot pot. SUPER yummy! read more

Family owned business. The food is very authentic. Consider it's the only Korean restaurant at Jasper, the food is okay and very generous. read more
