Part of the Jasper house bungalows facility, Taco Tuesday is great. Food was good, tacos great, a good meal on the more affordable side.

What I didn't like about the breakfast experience is the cup size for coffee! I think the cups are small compared to the similar businesses. For dinner they have a better menu and the food is pretty good! I have tried their special a couple of times and I enjoyed some of their dishes and appetizers! I didn't enjoy their cocktails since they seemed to be a bit homemade quality, and maybe overpriced? My good example is their old fashion which was the smallest I've even seen! The interior design and the atmosphere is great and a great place for date nights! The staff was always nice, friendly and helpful and I liked the customer service! Overall the quality of the food is good and I know I'll definitely go back there!

For breakfast we ordered the alpine start (yogurt with homemade musli, brioche with jam) and the waffle plate. We enjoyed both of them; there were a good starting for our morning (breakfast opens at 7:30am). For dinner we tried the chicken, the meatloaf and the ribs. Everything was very good. I can't complain about the taste of the food. My only "complain" is about the small portion of every dish and how slow was the service during the dinner. The first time we ate here we waited almost 1 hour for our meal (I know there was a big group and other tables, but the service was very slow). Overall the restaurant and the place are amazing because of the view of Athabaskan river and the mountains around and they have s'more pit and other event almost every night.

They are located upstairs on the main drag of Jasper (they have an elevator on the outside to get you up there if you have mobility issues). The patio is fantastic, and if you have small kids they will probably be excited that they can see the VIA rail trains go in and out. Service was excellent. We had the sweetest server ever, even when my kiddo with special needs decided to swipe the table and break some glass. (We offered to pay for it, she declined so we gave her a big tip). Menu is good - a variety of food and hats off to the Indigenous items they included. Since it was lunch time, we just decided on a main meal and no appetizers (we were hiking after this), but I really would like to come back here for the appies. We decided on the Wild Game Burger -Alberta Elk & Bison patty with caramelized onions, forest mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, pickles with old fashioned mayo-mustard sauce, served with Canadian kennebec home-cut fries while kiddo decided on the kids mac and cheese. Food came out in a timely manner. We really enjoyed how juicy our wild game burger was and I really loved the mushrooms and onions on it. Our daughter gobbled up her meal. I would definitely recommend this. Prices are high, but so is everything else in Jasper. If you want cheaper do a chain restaurant. If you want a great and authentic experience try this out.

The people: a mother and her son, tired from the day's (short) hike in the snow. The atmosphere at the street: hushed voices, some bit of hustle and bustle as strangers rush to fill some void. Hunger. There were more steps from the sidewalk up to the restaurant, a seeming offense to legs tired from pushing against the snow earlier in the day. The local game and seafood, both in varying forms, were the tempters. We got our table, and we sat down. Drinks first - CRFT Blonde Ale was a winner - and a lovely herbed bread and butter started us off. Menu choice this night focused on the game dishes. Some calamari to start too, though our hunger made a short life of that starter at our table. And then we got our mains. Well-prepared, unpretentious, flavorful, and - for us - just the right proportions. My bison medallions - ordered rare - were prepared just perfectly, with (as I told my son) the only instance of spaghetti squash that I think I have ever liked (alongside other well-prepared veggies as well). His mixed game burger didn't stand a chance. He even ate the mushrooms, a sure HT. Our experience here was so wonderful, centered, warm - It helped that our server was equally so, and you can see how much she connects with the customers as one would with guests in a home. We liked our meal so much we came back again the next night for more. And the second night did not lose any luster off the first. Next time we are in the area, we are probably going to go nowhere but here. While our travels took us far, we felt right at home here.

So they chose this one which was nearby but survived the fire. They also have previously stayed here before. I like that there is a river right across that you can go to in the mornings. After figuring out there are amenities at the front office, I started snooping out this one and found an espresso maker! With fresh milk. So I would come here in the mornings for my morning coffee fix. There are also books, board games, and a couple of binders with all the different menus from town (some need updating though). The staff was very friendly and welcoming and I was able to meet the daughter of the owners. We also went to the hot tub which was very nice. We weren't sure how the changing/shower room worked, so my husband avoided it when there were women using it. You can chop some wood for your fire place which we did. I really liked the cabins - they feel kind of homey. The couches are all nice and thematic, the artwork is not generic - I think I saw other pieces by the same artist around Jasper. There was a fridge, microwave, toaster, and an electric kettle. There was also a bathtub which I needed after one of our hikes. I also liked the lotion - it really helped my skin heal up. The patios were really cute, but we never used them because of mosquitos. We were in a cabin with a shared wall - you can hear the other side if they're playing loud music. Which my brother-in-law was. My in-laws got a standalone cabin which was really cute because it's like a cute little house. It would be perfect if you have younger kids who was some of their own space. These ones also have a stove - so some frozen pizzas were made. They are in the process of rebuilding the cabins. We weren't staying in the cabins during the day mostly so if there was noise I didn't notice. If you are driving into town, use the highway to avoid the train.

We had just come from Canmore, where we stayed in a modern condo, and we were excited for the change of pace and scenery. I booked online and opted for the cheese board for when we arrived. We picked up two bottles of wine from the Tekarra Lodge and enjoyed our time in the cabin. Our first night there, the weather was hot, and our room was toasty! No A/C, but the fan we found in the closet worked well. The next two nights there, the temp. dropped significantly, and we were very cozy! Our first morning we did Yoga in the upstairs lodge and it was really wonderful. We also took advantage of the S'mores by the fire one of the nights. Both Yoga instructor and S'mores guy were very helpful with tips and suggestions (Thank you!!). The Athabasca river flows by the cabins. Highly suggest having your morning coffee (starbucks provided to make in the room) or happy hour drinks, river side in one of their many Adirondack chairs. We had a car, but walked into town daily (make a reservation at The Raven). It's about a mile each way, but there's a nice path (suggest bringing a headlamp if you walk back in the dark - after 11pm). There will most likely always be a train, but there's a footpath to avoid it. Our last day we saw several elk in the meadow by the sign for Lac Beauvert on the way to and from town. I didn't find this out until the last day, but you can take the walking path by the river into the woods and pop out by the bridge (where white water rafting trips end). From here you can also walk to Lac Beauvert. We also saw several female elk on our walk to the lake. One thing to note is to make sure you don't leave any food out.

The location is a selling point. The bungalows are on a fast moving River frequently visited by elk, deer and the occasional bear. This winter the bungalows are slated for upgrades, air conditioning will be added. We wandered to the gazebo along the river, it was a cool breezy place to sit & admire the snow capped mountains & rambling river. We enjoyed Chris the naturalist's 8:00 program about the animals in Jasper. They have an friendly, professional & fascinating international staff from France, Chile, Mexico & Australia.. The Jasper House Bungalows were established in 1956, on picturesque property overlooking the Athabasca River. The original 28 units were built by Austrian John Woldrich & Italian immigrants, one of whom was Forabosco. John & Josie Forabosco bought Jasper House in 1977 expanding to 56 bungalows. The family ran Jasper House Bungalows for 35 years until 2011 when John sold it to the Decore brothers who renovated the properties. The seasonal property is opened from May Thanksgiving. The Elk Village Restaurant on site offers breakfast & dinner in their lodge dining room. We were treated to a steak dinner with mashed potatoes, corn & a berry tart. A buffet breakfast was provided daily from 7 until 9: 00. Patio seating is available as well as a few grocery, backpacking and off sale items. A happy hour from 4:00 until 6:00pm offers discounted cocktails, appetizers and assorted tacos.

You can enjoy some awesome views from the water and briefly visit another area where you can see Spirit Island. Kat and Clara were our guides/captain and they were both so great! Kat is so friendly and welcoming, and she did a very good job explaining the history and significance of the area. Definitely recommend! You can really spend a full day exploring around Maligne Lake. We were only there for about 5.5 hours, but it was a pleasant experience and luckily the weather was great too. I'd also suggest having lunch at Maligne Lake Chalet, it was flavorful and delicious and our server, Patrick was helpful and kind. The waffle/gelato hut is a good place to stop after hiking, and while it is a bit pricey, the gelato was quite tasty & refreshing! Please keep in mind, Maligne Lake is a busy, popular place and parking can be a challenge. We arrived around 11:30am and had to circle around a few times before finding a place to park. There is overflow parking (smaller in size, slightly up the hill) in case you can't find a spot in the main lot. Overall, Maligne Lake is wonderful place to visit and is definitely worth visiting while in Jasper.

The more we chewed, the better it tasted, and my friend even wanted another basket of bread. We ordered the RANGER'S TENDERLOIN and MOUNTAINEER RIB-EYE STEAK. Their medium rare was a bit more on the rare side compared to other steakhouses, but the meat still had a rich flavor. It's just that the meat inside was rarer and harder to chew. The sauce that came with the MOUNTAINEER RIB-EYE STEAK was super delicious, adding more flavor to the meat. However, the sauce for the RANGER'S TENDERLOIN was avocado salsa verde, which I wasn't quite used to, so I ended up eating the meat plain. The side dish, truffled mashed potatoes, was too salty, and I gave up on it after eating less than half!

Staff helped direct us to plenty of nearby locations that largely avoided impacts from the wildfire and retained much (or all) of their natural splendor--if you are worried about not being able to see much, don't be--come to Jasper and stay at Pine Bungalows. The cabin itself was very well maintained, smelled wonderful, and came packed with great tea and coffee. We were stocked daily with firewood, starters, and kindling that supported our s'more-eating habit. Our neighbor cabin guests, and all of the cleaning staff we met, were all kind and helpful. Our check-in staff member's handwritten directions on a lodge-provided map (attached) led us to several days of extraordinary beauty. She (Name = Strawberry) told us that Maligne Lake was pristine -- and we saw bald eagles, black bear cubs, and grizzly cubs with mom from the safety of our car. She said Pyramid Lake was beautiful, and we basked in the rich meadow trails and overlooks over several pristine lakes, including Pyramid Lake, and visited the wedding island to top it off. She encouraged us to take the tram up to Whistlers Mountain or drive to Mt. Robson--we did both (and Kinney Lake), and were left speechless both times. In other words, she helped us see Jasper and the surrounding area for what it truly is, and not just its recent disaster. We look forward to returning. A note on wildlife and the surrounding area. Magpies and cow elk frequently came right up to the cabin's perimeter. A coyote was seen outside the Bungalow's property, but never came close to the cabin (by visual, scat, or print). If you are trying to see wildlife, this is a great spot to use as your base of operations. There is a very occasional odor from the nearby water treatment facility, but it will last seconds for every hour you are outside so don't let that influence your decision. Can't recommend this business enough! Help Jasper recover and stay here!
