Tried breakfast at Smitty's recently -- we ordered two Big Country Breakfasts. The food was pretty mediocre overall, but everything was cooked well and it definitely hit that classic breakfast spot. The chocolate milk was a bit lacking, but the caramel macchiato was actually very good! The décor is definitely dated, though there were lots of "historic" pieces around that were fun to look at while waiting for food. Staff were very nice and friendly, which made the experience better. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a classic, no-frills breakfast on the go. read more

We weren't sure where to go our first night in Hinton. After doing a quick search on Yelp and Google, we decided to try Smitty's. The menu was interesting. In addition to the normal diner food, they also had what looked like Asian food including butter chicken. I called in on my burner cellphone and ordered a fettucine alfredo for my wife, and a steak and eggs breakfast for myself. After arriving, I waited a few minutes and was given my food after paying. After receiving my food, I immediately drove back to the hotel. To my surprise, when I got back to the hotel, not only did I get my steak and eggs, the fettucine alfredo, but, I also had a bonus box of ginger beef. The food was okay. It was diner food. Service was okay. They did try to contact me on my burner cellphone to let me know that I received a bonus, but, I left the phone in the car. It's an okay place. read more

Perfectly good family run Smitty's in Hinton, "Gateway to the Rockies". We stopped for a bunch here once and had the benny and it was average with nothing great, but did hit the spot. It's a typical small-town diner with a folksy interior, just what you would expect from a town like Hinton. Plenty of personality, with average food and decent service. If you need something just speak up and get their attention and they will be happy to get it for you. Just don't expect to be doted upon. The interior is clean and well-kept with big bright windows and nicely laid out furniture and plenty of room to accommodate big family meals just like you were at home or at grandma's house. Definitely recommend this place if a diner style meal is what you're after, as there is something for everyone on the menu. read more

Terrible service. The host was good but the waitress was not. The food all arrived at separate times, far enough apart that the first persons food was cold by the time the last persons showed up. Waitress was rude and when there were issues with the bills she just kept blaming the host. Disappointed in how unprofessional she was, not a good leader. She may have been the manager from what I heard from others. Kept saying things will come out of the hosts pay check when it was clearly the waitress/managers fault not the host. Food was mediocre. Be prepared for very slow service. Just getting coffee was quite an ordeal. Food never arrived after waiting an hour. No explanation given. Management seemed disinterested. read more

Waitress was really nice. Service was good and the meal came quickly. Had a burger and fries. The bun was really dry and there was lots of mayo on it. Normally the food is better at this location. We always stop here when passing through. I'm sad to see it wasn't as good as it use to be. read more

More like Shitty's . how are they allowed to serve food to people. first thing that was presented to me was a small salad in a styrofoam bowl. if that isnt a red flag then i don't know what is. moving onto the meal, i was then served the worlds thinnest and driest slab of jerky that they call steak. boy was that s*** burnt . i was concerned that there was steak sauce already on the table waiting for me. turns out you need the whole bottle to manage it down (btw i couldnt eat more than one bite). the best thing here was the coke in the worlds smallest glass. save your money. there is no excuse to serve shitty food...unless thats all you make. that was embarrassing. read more

I don't expect much from smithy's but quick, simple arrive and food. The food was fine actually it was decent it's the reason for two stars. We sat and I had to walk after 20mins if waiting for a waitress she came said sorry for delay yes but then said oh I need my note pad there was only 2 of us she picked it up cane back took out order we ordered water and coffee usually people would be floating around constantly offering coffee and they were just not to any tables in our area. The food arrived I asked for water and coffee the bus boy was maybe 12yrs old but he came straight back with it in fairness to him. Noone checked on our meal or top up of beverages. We got up and went to the front to pay we pointed out our table and left. I don't expect 5 star food and service but I definitely expect more than we got. Nice western atmosphere with a little hint of nature and history. Standard Smitty's Restaurant menus with breakfast pancake waffle and all day eats but the staff that makes the difference. Two brothers look after the managing essentials and a good compliment of staff to look after the water coffee refills and timely ordering. A good display of history and local books to purchase. In all a pleasant stop, good food and clean washrooms. It has been a long time since I have seen such good service. I recommend nine stars for satisfaction. read more

Smitty's has been a family favourite thru the years. Slowly, locations have been disappearing and hard to come across. We discovered Smittys Hinton, when trying to decide where to dine for evening dinner. The staff were very accommodating for meals for picky eater kids. Our family ordered a variety of food :breakfast, fish, turkey dinner, salad and burger. Everything was top notch! I would highly recommend Hinton Smitty's for home style meals with a warm friendly service. read more

This must be the best run Smitty's Restaurant that I've been to, the meals are hot, tasty and quite exciting that's always a favourite regardless of desire, with pancakes, waffles, bacon, eggs, hash browns, fries or toast the service is fantastic with staff so choreographed you coffee cup is never empty. I like the breakfast lunch but they have a supper menu too. Little secret: I bought some books about the area for reading while we camp. I was left with that old chuck wagon cowboy feeling as I carried my books out to the car to read about the old west. Two brothers seem to be the owners and both are so wonderful to speak with. The no doubt will we the ones seating you and they always have a good story. Eat here and you will not be disappointed. I noticed they seat many locals and travellers too. read more

The ribeye was so thin I could almost see through it. The baked potato did not come with any condiments, and the salad was served in a styrofoam cup. I knew to lower my expectations before entering, yet I was disappointed anyway. On the bright side however, service was nice and friendly, the steak was OK to eat, and was a good place for a relaxing pit stop. read more

Well not much I can say but I will say the staff is excellent. Young and enthusiastic. Don't order the farmers skillet. Hollandaise sauce is totally tasteless and the powder-coated scramble eggs didn't do anything to help the situation. Can't help but think it might of been the worst way to spend 20+ bucks with tip. read more

Probably the best breakfast in town and I'm giving it three stars lol. Breakfasts are ok. Dinners are meh. Waitresses work hard here though. Rare for your coffee to get to low. Or a drink run out. Burgers are like hockey rink style. So decent but not WOW.. read more

Loved this place. If you are staying in Hinton and you want to dine in to have breakfast, I would highly recommend this place. It was quite crowded when we reached here around 11 am, may be because it was a long weekend. They have a big menu (7-8 different kinds of omelette) and we had the Swiss and Picante Chicken, both tasted very good and were very filling. Nice ambience and cordial serving staff. There is only one Tim Hortons in Hinton (default breakfast place) which usually is very busy, this makes Smitty's further favorable for breakfast. read more

We arrived in Hinton for one night...tried to order Chinese food but the menu that was in the hotel room was old so the deals they had were no longer available, so we decided on Smitty's. What a mistake...it was so gross...staff sat us down and I look on the floor and there is a huge piece of pancake on the floor right by our table. It was like the staff didn't even see it! Food was ok! Def not staying or eating in Hinton again! Very disappointing! read more
